Palestinian victims describe being used as shields by Hamas

Members of a Gaza family whose farm was turned into a "fortress" by Hamas fighters have reported that they were helpless to stop Hamas from using them as human shields. They described how for years Hamas has used their property and homes as shields for military installations from which to launch rockets into Israel, dig tunnels and store arms. According to the victims, those who tried to object were shot in the legs by Hamas.

The following is the full text of the comments by Hamas representative Fathi Hammad months before the war, articulating the Hamas ideology to use civilians as human shields for Hamas fighters:"For the Palestinian people death has become an industry, at which women excel and so do all people on this land: the elderly excel, the Jihad fighters excel, and the children excel. Accordingly [Palestinians] created a human shield of women, children, the elderly and the Jihad fighters against the Zionist bombing machine, as if they were saying to the Zionist enemy: 'We desire death as you desire life.'"

ZEPHANIAH 2:1-7
1 Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation not desired;
2  Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD come upon you, before the day of the LORD’S anger come upon you.
3  Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD’S anger.
4  For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: they shall drive out Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be rooted up.(ITS NO ACCIDENT THAT IN THIS GAZA WAR ITS ASHKELON-ASHDOD AND THE MURDERER HAMAS IN GAZA WERE MOST OF THE BOMBING ARE)(THIS IS PROPHECY COMING TO PASS BIGTIME)
5  Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea coast,(GAZA) the nation of the Cherethites! the word of the LORD is against you; O Canaan, the land of the Philistines,(PALESTINIANS) I will even destroy thee, that there shall be no inhabitant.
6  And the sea coast (GAZA) shall be dwellings and cottages for shepherds, and folds for flocks.
7  And the coast (GAZA) shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah;(ISRAEL) they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for the LORD their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity.(BY THIS PROPHECY I PREDICT ISRAEL WILL RETAKE GAZA SO ISRAELIS AROUND THE WORLD CAN IMMIGRATE THERE AND BUILD HOMES AND LIVE)

30  And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety: and I will kill thy root with famine, and he shall slay thy remnant.
31  Howl, O gate; cry, O city; thou, whole Palestina,(ARABS) art dissolved: for there shall come from the north a smoke, and none shall be alone in his appointed times.
32  What shall one then answer the messengers of the nation? That the LORD hath founded Zion,(JERUSALEM) and the poor of his people shall trust in it.

Israeli UN Rep Prosor Demands UN Action on Hamas War Crimes-Israel's ambassador to the UN Ron Prosor is demanding that the UN Security Council act on Hamas' war crimes-By Yaakov Levi-First Publish: 8/28/2014, 9:21 AM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS

Israel's ambassador to the UN Ron Prosor has submitted a list of Hamas war crimes that took place during Operation Protective Edge to the UN Security Council. In a message accompanying the list, Prosor wrote that “despite the fact that the Council recognizes that Hamas has committed war crimes, nothing has been done yet about them.”Prosor submitted a lengthy, detailed list of all the rockets fired by Hamas – their targets and the damage they caused – with nearly all of them fired at civilian targets, which in itself is a war crime, as well as many examples of Hamas using the Gaza civilian population as human shields, launching attacks from homes, schools, and hospitals. “I expect the Security Council to loudly condemn Hamas' activities. The Council cannot remain silent over the use by Hamas of Gaza civilians as human shields.”Several weeks ago, Sderot residents filled out complaint forms against Hamas. The forms were submitted to the UN Human Rights Council. In addition, about 13,000 people from dozens of countries have signed a petition that calls on UN Secretary General Ban ki-Moon to put Hamas leaders on trial for war crimes. Both the letters from Sderot and the petition were the ideas of the Im Tirzu group. The UN Human Rights Council announced several weeks ago that it would investigate the IDF's conduct during Operation Protective Edge. No action has been taken yet on the Hamas war crimes petition.

Netanyahu Boasts: 'Terror Towers in Gaza Fell'-PM tries to allay criticism of ceasefire while on visit to south, promises aid package to Gaza Belt next Sunday.By Hezki Ezra, Ari Yashar-First Publish: 8/28/2014, 8:38 PM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met with regional council heads from the south in Be'er Sheva on Thursday afternoon, two days after he sealed a ceasefire with Hamas that Gaza Belt regional heads slammed as being a form of surrender.Attempting to respond to the criticism of abandoning the security in the south, Netanyahu stated "my obligation to the south is very deep, you know and see it. ...The region we live in is a raging and stormy one, and we are here in one boat with many others in the region and from the world."Reiterating his message of a "great diplomatic and military blow" to Hamas from the night before, Netanyahu said "Hamas was dealt a very serious blow, and there is a military achievement of the highest order here, and well as a diplomatic achievement, because in the end they came and removed all their conditions."According to Netanyahu "they acceded to the same Egyptian ceasefire proposal that we were ready to accept directly at the outset without time constraints and without any of the conditions that they set. They got to this point the hard way. They kept testing us and every time we struck them but the last time, given this accumulation of blows, they were persuaded."The ceasefire deal had goods immediately begin to re-enter Gaza, although construction materials which are a security risk reportedly have yet to be brought in, despite Netanyahu agreeing to letting them in. An extension of Gaza's fishing zone back to its pre-war size was also granted, with larger demands such as a swap of terrorists for the bodies of two soldiers, as well as a sea and airport, to be held in a month.Speaking about the breach of the last ceasefire by Hamas last Tuesday, Netanyahu said "they thought they could wear us down, and I told them they'll get a pummeling, and they got a pummeling and also the towers of terror fell, and also their senior commanders fell."A poll held Wednesday for Channel 2 found that the majority of Israelis did not share Netanyahu's rosy appraisal of the operation; the poll found a full 59% of Israelis felt Israel did not win in Operation Protective Edge, and 54% opposed the ceasefire.Netanyahu's approval rating also tanked according to the poll, which found his support to be at a mere 32%, with a full 59% saying they were not satisfied with him. A similar poll two days earlier found that only 38% of Israelis were satisfied with Netanyahu, as opposed to 55% four days prior to that point. At the start of the operation with the ground entry to Gaza, that figure was a whopping 82%.Aid package for Gaza Belt residents.Turning to the local regional council heads, Netanyahu added "we stood together through all the days of the campaign and I very much appreciate your firmness and support," calling to continue "standing together" in rebuilding after the damage inflicted by Hamas's rocket war."On Sunday we will bring a very large aid package to Gaza Belt residents, and afterwards a general aid package for the whole south," said Netanyahu. There has been talk of the aid package, which apparently is in addition to the 13.5 million shekel aid plan that was already approved for the long-term reconstruction of the Gaza Belt, as well as Tourism Minister Uzi Landau's request that the region be made VAT-free (an 18% discount on sales tax) for one year.Netanyahu's "terror tower" remark referred to Gaza high-rises that the IAF brought down in the final week of the Gaza campaign.

Security Services 'Foiled Massive Cyber-Attack on Israel'-Elite Israeli cyber-defenders repelled attack during Protective Edge; concerns hackers could seek to take control of armed drones.By Ari Soffer-First Publish: 8/28/2014, 3:38 PM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS

The IDF and Israel Security Agency (ISA or Shin Bet) prevented a major cyber attack on Israel during Operation Protective Edge, military officials say.According to the IDF's official blog, the unprecedented attack was carried out by anti-Israel hackers "from all over the world", aided by the Iranian government. The coordinated attack was timed to coincide with Al Quds (Jerusalem) Day, the yearly anti-Israel event organised worldwide by the Iranian regime. The IDF's cyber defense division was drafted in to mount a defense as hackers mounted a systematic attempt to take down Israeli websites. It was joined by the Shin Bet security services, which recently revealed it had set up an elite cyber-defense unit to defend against precisely such an eventuality. The incident underscored how at the same time as Hamas and Islamic Jihad are improving their rocket and tunnel capabilities, Israeli cyberspace also faces a real threat from an increasingly innovative enemy."It wasn’t like this in previous operations," said Col. N, who heads the army's cyber defense division. "For the first time, there was an organized cyber defense effort alongside combat operations in the field. This was a new reality."While previous cyber attacks were either the work of lone individuals or relatively amateurish hacker collectives, this latest attempt was far more professional."Today, they’re organizing much more quickly, and it takes them much less time to carry out powerful strikes," Col. N added. "During Operation Protective Edge, we saw attacks on a greater scale and on a more sophisticated level. A significant amount of thought and investment stood behind the attacks we saw."And possibly indicating an even deeper level of coordination with terrorist networks on the ground, he described how the cyber escalation ebbed and flowed in-tandem with an increase in physical hostilities."There was a direct connection between the progression of the fighting and cyber attacks. Once the IDF began its ground operation, there was a surge in the number of attacks and their level of sophistication."Ultimately, the attack was repelled by Israel's own elite units of cyber-defenders, but Col. N. warned this would certainly not be the last such attack. He outlined several nightmare scenarios which the IDF was preparing for, including attempts to hack the military's computer system to gain control of its own armed drones and use them to attack Israel. Hackers could also seek to shut down or disrupt the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange or the Israeli electrical grid.Major terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah, together with Iran, were already showing an increasing interest in the field of cyber terror. And as the IDF becomes increasingly adept at dealing with physical threats such as rockets, its enemies are seeking new avenues of attack."There is a significant amount of development in the cyber field," Colonel N. explained. "This is a field that [these groups] are already involved in … and all of these groups share information." "I won’t be surprised if, next time, we meet [terrorists] in the cyber dimension," he said.

Southern Professor Slams 'Antiquated' Government Security Plans-Students and teachers at a college in southern Israel want the IDF to stop not only Hamas' mass rocket attacks, but the 'routine' ones too.By Moshe Cohen-First Publish: 8/28/2014, 2:07 PM- ISRAEL NATIONAL NEWS

Professor Avi Levy, head of the Hemdat Darom educational institution in Sdot Negev, told Arutz Sheva on Thursday that he was hopeful the region of southern Israel would be safe enough to begin the school year. For 14 years, he said, his college has been dealing with security issues. The institution is not protected against rocket attacks, and the constant sounding of the Red Color alert warning system has played havoc with teaching plans and school activities for years, he said.Part of the problem is location, said Levy. “The government authorized installing rocket defenses on all buildings belonging to colleges within seven kilometers of Gaza (elementary and high school buildings located up to 15 km from Gaza are protected as well). We are located a few hundred meters from that line, so we don't qualify. And we have had experienced a significant increase in student population in recent years.”The area around the school was targeted with hundreds of rockets during Operation Protective Edge – and as a result, the school has been closed since early July. Levy said that the Homefront Command's safety plan for the area of the Sdot Negev Regional Council was “antiquated, because of the changes in population. As a result, all we have are two shelters and two protected rooms.“Because we don't have facilities to protect students, we are truly the prisoners of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, who effectively decided when we can have classes and when we can't,” Levy added.“We have been suffering with this impossible to tolerate situation for 14 years,” Levy said. “During war time, we are subject to endless barrages of missiles, and during periods of 'peace' we suffer from the 'routine' rocket fire, in which Gaza terrorists fire one or two rockets a day. We cannot allow either of these situations to continue,” Levy added.

89% of Gaza Residents Support Rocket Attacks on Israel-Poll conducted by Palestinian Center for Public Opinion also shows majority support Abbas, oppose foreign monitors in Gaza.By Ari Soffer-First Publish: 8/28/2014, 12:25 PM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS

89% of Gazans support indiscriminate rocket fire against Israel civilians, according to a poll released on Wednesday. The survey, conducted by the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion (PCPO), also showed widespread support for UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, which has been fiercely criticized of turning a blind eye to Hamas incitement in its schools in the Gaza Strip, as well as the use of its school buildings to store rockets.Asked about their opinion on the issue of "firing rockets at Israel", 60.3% "strongly supported" such actions, while a further 28.6% supported it somewhat - for a total of 88.9%.7.0% of respondents were undecided, with 1% "strongly opposing" and 1.4% opposing it somewhat.1.7% answered "I don't know".Dr. Nabil Kukali, who prepared the poll, noted those figures represented a significant increase from a previous poll, conducted in January 2013, which showed just 49% of Gazans in favor of rocket attacks. The latest study was conducted between the 14-19th of August, during a six-day humanitarian ceasefire, while talks for a long-term truce between Israel and Gazan terrorists appeared deadlocked, and just before Hamas sparked the last round of fighting by breaking the temporary lull with a hail of rocket fire.A "random sample" of 1,000 Palestinian Arabs were polled, "representing the various demographic specimens of adult Palestinians (18 years and above) living in [the] Gaza Strip".61.2% opposed the presence of United Nations peacekeeping force in Gaza, similar to the multinational force deployed in southern Lebanon. Just 29.3% of those asked would support such an arrangement, while 9.5% declined to respond.Gazan were also lukewarm to the idea - proposed repeatedly in talks - of an EU- monitored arrangement whereby the Palestinian Authority would take control of Gaza's crossings into Israel, as well as a joint Egyptian-Israeli control over crossings into Egypt. Just 37.7% supported it, while 56.6% opposed and 5.7% declined to respond.Despite that, respondents in the Hamas-ruled enclave appear to view the performance of PA leader Mahmoud Abbas favorably overall.Asked: "Are you satisfied, or not, with the performance of the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas during the Israeli military operation “the Protective Edge” against Gaza Strip?", 54% answered "Yes", 38.6% said "No" and 7.4% said "I don’t know".Asked a similar question about UNRWA, 71.2% rated the agency's performance as "good", 21.8% as "fair", and just 6.8% as "bad". Only 0.2% said they "didn't know."Curiously, the country deemed most supportive of the "Palestinian cause" by the largest number of respondents was Egypt, despite the country's hostility towards Hamas.
