Netanyahu Blasts UN 'Hypocrisy' After Ban's Comments on Gaza-"There is no limit to the hypocrisy", says PM after UN chief accuses Israel of making Gazan children "suffer".By Elad Benari-First Publish: 6/19/2015, 12:05 AM-israelnationalnews

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Thursday night blasted the UN’s hypocrisy, after the head of the global body, Ban Ki-moon, accused the IDF of making Gazan children "suffer" last summer in its counter-terror operation."This is a dark day for the United Nations,” Netanyahu said. “Instead of mentioning the fact that Hamas turned Gaza's children into hostages when it fired from kindergartens on the children of Israel, the UN chooses again to preach to Israel, which makes sure to act according to international standards, as determined by just this week by senior generals from the United States and Europe.”"At the same time,” Netanyahu continued, “the Hamas terrorist organization receives immunity from the UN despite the fact that it has been proven beyond doubt that it committed war crimes when it fired from hospitals, mosques, and UN facilities. It turns out that there is no limit to the hypocrisy."Ban had earlier said that last year “was one of the worst in recent memory for children in countries affected by conflict" and added he is "deeply alarmed at the suffering of so many children as a result of Israeli military operations in Gaza last year."More than 500 children died during the conflict in Gaza last year, although Ban failed to note that Hamas embedded its terror infrastructure in civilian populations to maximize casualties on the Gazan side and portray the IDF negatively. Hamas also widely used civilian shields, callously using local people and particularly children in the line of fire.Israel has pointed out that many facilities in Gaza were struck because they were being used to fire rockets on Israeli civilians and store weapons.Hamas has been busily developing its domestic rocket arsenal since the last war and is siphoning off construction goods to rebuild its terror attack tunnels into Israel, in preparation for its next terror war against the Jewish state.Netanyahu’s comments followed earlier criticism from Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely (Likud), who said the UN was showing “outrageous bias” against Israel."At a time when ceaseless war rages in the Middle East and children are slaughtered on a daily basis, the UN decides to mention Israel in the same breath with states that since long ago have not had any basic human rights," she said.Israeli Ambassador to the UN Ron Prosor also criticized the UN on Thursday, responding to the UN report on children and armed conflict which was prepared by Leila Zerrougui of Algeria.Ban said the report showed "the unprecedented and unacceptable scale of the impact on children in 2014 raises grave concerns about Israel's compliance with international humanitarian law...(and) excessive use of force.”Prosor responded, saying that Israel asked to provide information for the report but was refused, as Zerrougui relied only on radical anti-Israel groups. The report completely failed to mention Hamas's role in the impact on children in Gaza. The ambassador further pointed out that 2% of the report discusses Iraq and Islamic State (ISIS), while 6% of it is dedicated to Syria. Over 10% of the report, though, discusses Israel's “aggression against children.”

Hotovely: UN's Ban is Showing His 'Outrageous' Anti-Israel Bias-Pointing out daily slaughter of children in Middle East, deputy FM slams UN head's accusation about Gazan children.By Hezki Ezra-First Publish: 6/18/2015, 10:27 PM-israelnationalnews
Responding to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon's accusations on Thursday that the IDF made Gazan children "suffer" last summer in its counter-terror operation, Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely (Likud) struck back criticizing the remarks."The biased and one-sided approach of the UN regarding IDF activities in (Operation) Protective Edge is outrageous," Hotovely said Thursday night."At a time when ceaseless war rages in the Middle East and children are slaughtered on a daily basis, the UN decides to mention Israel in the same breath with states that since long ago have not had any basic human rights," she continued.
The deputy minister emphasized that the IDF does all it can to protect the lives of civilians in enemy territory, "while Hamas cynically uses children and civilian facilities and intentionally causes harm to the lives of people. The state of Israel will continue to wage its campaign to reveal the truth and will not harm its right to self-defense."Israeli Ambassador to the UN Ron Prosor also criticized the UN on Thursday, responding to the UN report on children and armed conflict which was prepared by Leila Zerrougui of Algeria.Ban said the report showed "the unprecedented and unacceptable scale of the impact on children in 2014 raises grave concerns about Israel's compliance with international humanitarian law...(and) excessive use of force.”Prosor responded, saying that Israel asked to provide information for the report but was refused, as Zerrougui relied only on radical anti-Israel groups. Ban Bashes Israel for Making Gazan Children 'Suffer'-UN demands Israel make steps to protect children in Gaza, failing to note Hamas civilian shields and embedding of terror infrastructure.By Arutz Sheva Staff-First Publish: 6/18/2015, 7:58 PM-israelnationalnews

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon attacked Israel on Thursday, saying it needed to do more to protect the lives of Palestinian Arab children during counter-terror operations in Gaza - even as international law experts say Israel is warning Gazans too much and harming the ability of Western democracies to combat terror."Last year was one of the worst in recent memory for children in countries affected by conflict," the UN leader said, adding he is "deeply alarmed at the suffering of so many children as a result of Israeli military operations in Gaza last year."More than 500 children died during the conflict in Gaza last year, although Ban failed to note that Hamas embedded its terror infrastructure in civilian populations to maximize casualties on the Gazan side and portray the IDF negatively. Hamas also widely used civilian shields, callously using local people and particularly children in the line of fire."I urge Israel to take concrete and immediate steps, including by reviewing existing policies and practices, to protect and prevent the killing and maiming of children, and to respect the special protections afforded to schools and hospitals," the UN leader said.Israel has pointed out that many facilities in Gaza were struck because they were being used to fire rockets on Israeli civilians and store weapons.Hamas has been busily developing its domestic rocket arsenal since the last war and is siphoning off construction goods to rebuild its terror attack tunnels into Israel, in preparation for its next terror war against the Jewish state.AFP contributed to this report.

PA 'Lawfare' Against Israel at ICC to Commence Next Week-PA to submit first 'war crimes' file next Thursday, in attempt to open legal war against Israel over last summer's war in Gaza.By Arutz Sheva Staff-First Publish: 6/18/2015, 8:25 PM-israelnationalnews

The Palestinian Authority (PA) will next week submit their first "war crimes" file to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in their legal offensive against Israel, an official said on Thursday. The move is part of an increased focus on diplomatic maneuvering and appeals to international bodies by the PA, in unilateral moves to join international organizations such as the ICC in breach of the 1993 Oslo Accord which established the PA.The file is to be handed to ICC chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda on June 25, and will detail alleged violations of international law by the Jewish state, PA foreign ministry official Ammar Hijazi told reporters in the Samaria city of Ramallah. On April 1, the PA formally joined the ICC with the goal of trying Israeli leaders for alleged abuses during last summer's war in Gaza, and alleged "crimes" relating to the Jewish presence in eastern Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria which the 2012 Levy Report proved was legal according to international law.The file is "only general, it's only statistical," Hijazi said. "But it certainly draws a grim picture of what Israel is doing and why we think that there are reasonable grounds...for the prosecutor to start (her) investigations."It does not refer to specific incidents, but the PA will submit such details in future if Bensouda decides to proceed with inquiries, he said.Bensouda's office has opened a preliminary examination into the claims, starting from June 2014.Earlier this year, as the PA was putting its accession to the ICC in motion, PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas sent documents to the court authorizing the prosecutor to investigate alleged crimes that took place in Gaza, Judea and Samaria since June 13, 2014.The unrest in June last year, which sparked when Hamas terrorists abducted and murdered three Israeli teens and Arabs rioted nationwide, escalated to the summer war between Israel and the Hamas terrorist organization.Contrary to PA "war crimes" charges, international law experts have criticized Israel for warning Gazans too much and harming the ability of Western democracies to combat terror.Bensouda has also said she is weighing opening war crimes investigations against Hamas and others - even Abbas's Fatah posted videos of it firing rockets from Gaza at Israeli civilian populations in an act constituting a war crime. The ICC, set up in 2002, is the world's only permanent independent body to try the most serious crimes of concern to the international community.AFP contributed to this report.

UNRWA Chief Admits Hamas Hid Weapons in Facilities-Krahenbuhl acknowledges storing of rockets in schools, clinics during last summer's war, but criticizes Israel for hitting UNRWA facilities.By Uzi Baruch-First Publish: 6/17/2015, 11:40 AM-israelnationalnews

Pierre Krahenbuhl, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, the UN body tasked with aiding "Palestinian refugees," admitted on Wednesday that Hamas terrorists hid weapons at UNRWA facilities during their terror war against Israel last summer."We were the ones who found the weapons caches in our facilities during inspections," Krahenbuhl told Yedioth Aharonoth in an interview. "The reason that the whole world knew about it is that we told them."Krahenbuhl's reference is to at least three separate occasions in which rockets were found at UNRWA facilities. After the first finding of rockets at an UNRWA school, UNRWA workers reportedly called Hamas to come remove them.Likewise, a booby-trapped UNRWA clinic was detonated, killing three IDF soldiers. Aside from the massive amounts of explosives hidden in the walls of the clinic, it was revealed that it stood on top of dozens of terror tunnels, showing how UNRWA is closely embedded with Hamas. The UNRWA head continued, saying, "we knew the revelation would lead to harsh responses against us in Israel, but try to imagine what would happen if we weren't the ones who published it. The act of publishing proves we aren't ready to allow it and show restraint."During Operation Protective Edge last summer Krahenbuhl entered Gaza three times."I was the only senior international official who condemned the rocket fire from the Gaza Strip at Israel," he claimed. "And I didn't do that from a place where it was easy and convenient to talk like Jerusalem or Geneva, but rather from within the Gaza Strip itself. I can say of myself that I take international law very seriously, and if I know that rockets are fired intentionally at regions where there is a population that can be harmed by it - I condemn."UNRWA condemns Israel again-UNRWA's Commissioner-General also condemned Israel for the strike on an UNRWA school in Jabalya. The IDF provided video evidence showing how Hamas fires rockets from inside schools."The day after the strike I visited the wounded children at the hospital, and I saw with my own eyes their parents who stood by them; what does that mean when you don't have the ability to protect your children," he said."When I see whole neighborhoods in Gaza that were destroyed by the IDF, or that there are UNRWA schools that were harmed after we gave the IDF their locations a dozen times and clarified that there are citizens there, then certainly we will put out condemnations," added the UNRWA head, not mentioning how Hamas embedded its terrorist infrastructure in civilian centers."The price of the last operation was very high: 540 killed children and 3,000 wounded children," concluded Krahenbuhl. "That doesn't match with the Israeli statement that all steps were taken to reduce to a minimum the number of wounded."Despite his assessment, international legal experts have criticized the IDF for precisely over-warning Gazans and thereby harming the ability of Western democracies to combat terror. The IDF achieved a remarkable 1:1 civilian to combatant casualty ratio in the war.Likewise UNRWA has been accused of helping indoctrinate children in Gaza to create a "civilian army."

Saudis Sign Nuclear Agreement With Russia-As prince visits Moscow, six deals signed between two sides including 'peaceful' nuclear technology, in signs of schism with US over Iran.By Ari Yashar-First Publish: 6/18/2015, 10:53 PM-israelnationalnews

Amid speculation by experts that a nuclear deal with Shi'ite Iran might force its Sunni rival Saudi Arabia to buy a nuclear weapon, likely from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia on Thursday signed a nuclear agreement with Russia.Al Arabiya reported that six agreements were signed Thursday between the Saudis and the Russians, including one on the "peaceful use of nuclear technology."The report did not detail the specifics of the deal, but it would apparently indicate Saudi Arabia's desire to become a nuclear power even as Iran is reportedly working to build a nuclear arsenal under the guise of a "peaceful" nuclear program, ahead of a June 30 deadline for talks with world powers. The move showing increased ties between Russia and Saudi Arabia may also indicate how the Saudis are moving further from the US, as its traditional ally in Washington is poised to reach a deal allowing its rival Iran to continue developing its nuclear program. In an apparent admission of allowing Iran to have nuclear weapons, US Secretary of State John Kerry reportedly offered the Saudis a nuclear umbrella back in March.Saudi ambassador to Russia Abdulrahman Al-Rassi was quoted by the paper saying on Thursday that Russia plays an "important" role vis-a-vis Iran, adding that Moscow is working in the UN Security Council to "maintain stability and security in the world.""I think that Russia is feeling this responsibility and we always hope and talk with Russian officials on the Iranian issue or other (issues). I do not think that Russia’s interest is in the instability in the region and this is certain," said Al-Rassi.Saudi Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday in Moscow after arriving the night before in an official visit, showing the high level interaction between the two states.Meanwhile sources told Reuters that the oil ministers of Russia and Saudi Arabia are to discuss a cooperation agreement on Thursday at an economic forum in St Petersburg. The Russian interest in Saudi oil may come partially as a result of intense international sanctions pressure leveled due to Russia's invasion of Crimea and military involvement in Ukraine.

Putin Threatens as US Continues East Europe Arms Buildup-Cold War heats up as Russia expands nuclear arsenal while US considers sending most advanced fighter jet to east Europe.By Ari Yashar-First Publish: 6/17/2015, 9:16 AM-israelnationalnews

As the US appears to be shifting its policy and considering massive arms deployments to defend NATO allies in Eastern Europe from Russian aggression, Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened to use force in response."We will be forced to aim our armed forces...at those territories from where the threat comes," warned Putin on Tuesday at a joint news conference with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto who was visiting Moscow. The Russian president said he was concerned about NATO's plans to install a missile defense system in Europe, saying "it is NATO that is moving towards our border and we aren’t moving anywhere."He also said on Tuesday that Russia would add 40 new intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) to its nuclear arsenal in 2015, even as the country is dealing with an economic crisis caused by weaker oil prices and international sanctions over Russia's invasion of Crimea and involvement in the Ukrainian fighting.US policy shift-Meanwhile the US is continuing to show a shift from US President Barack Obama's hands-off foreign policy approach, with officials revealing the US Air Force is weighing deployment of the stealth F-22 Raptor fighter jet to Eastern Europe to defend NATO allies from Russia. The F-22 is the most advanced fighter jet in the US Air Force."I could easily foresee the day...when the F-22 might rotate in," US secretary of the Air Force Deborah James told reporters on Monday at the Paris air show. She added that she wasn't sure when they would be deployed to Europe, where they have never been placed before."We face many threats, but Russia is the biggest threat right now," added James. "The hybrid warfare that Russia is conducting in Ukraine is extremely worrisome."Russia buffering its borders-Russian Defense Ministry spokesperson Gen. Yuriy Yakubov responded by saying the possible deployment of F-22s and other arms in the region is "the most aggressive step of (the) Pentagon and NATO since the Cold War last century.""The group of forces along the perimeter of Russia's western border will be reinforced first of all, including new formations of tanks, artillery and aircraft units," he said, adding that Russia would once again place short-range missiles at Kaliningrad in the Baltic region.According to the International Business Times, Russia has withdrawn from the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe so as to be unhindered in placing aircraft, tanks and troops on its borders. The possible deployment of the F-22 comes after it was revealed this week the Pentagon is preparing to store tanks, infantry combat vehicles and other heavy weapons for a brigade of between 3,000 and 5,000 soldiers on allied bases in Baltic and Eastern European NATO states for the first time.A senior military official detailed that the equipment for a full brigade, formally termed the European Activity Set, includes around 1,200 vehicles, among them 250 M1A2 tanks, Bradley fighting vehicles, as well as armed howitzers.

Netanyahu: The Jewish People No Longer Bow their Heads-PM Netanyahu presents actor Michael Douglas with the Genesis Prize, lauds Israel as a beacon of freedom surrounded by darkness.By Ben Ariel-First Publish: 6/19/2015, 2:12 AM-israelnationalnews

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Thursday evening presented actor Michael Douglas with the Genesis Prize, in a special ceremony at the Jerusalem Theater. The Genesis Prize is awarded annually by the Genesis Prize Foundation, in partnership with the Office of the Prime Minister of the State of Israel and the Jewish Agency for Israel, to individuals who have accomplished major life achievements, and are advocates for the Jewish community and Israel. Douglas, said the Foundation, fits both criteria.Speaking at the ceremony, Netanyahu said, "Israel is a beacon of technology and innovation. It is a beacon of liberty and freedom and life in a region entirely submerged in darkness and tyranny.”“Democracies are tested under fire. And we have been tested since day one. However, we maintain our values,” he continued. “We built a vibrant democracy, a democracy where Jews and non-Jews are equal under the law, in the one and only Jewish state. Jews can come here and live as free people and they can come here from all over the world. All Jews can feel at home here. And as Prime Minister of Israel, I am committed to preserving the unity of the Jewish people and will continue to oppose any attempt to divide the Jewish people and to delegitimize one community or another. Everyone will be welcome here - Reform, Conservative, and Orthodox. All of them.”“The great irony is of course that Israel, that free, vibrant and incredibly dynamic democracy, is the most maligned on earth,” the Prime Minister said. “Most of the resolutions adopted by the UN Human Rights Council deal with Israel, more than North Korea, Iran, Sudan and Syria. Such a flux of unjust criticism, every day and every hour, eventually takes the form of a self-evident truth. That is the nature of defamation. And under this attack, it is very easy to bow down. But I want to tell you that the days in which the Jewish people bowed down their heads are gone. Since the establishment of the Jewish state, we resist. It’s not that the attacks on Jews stopped with the creation of the State of Israel, but that we have the ability to resist. This is something new, it's something our people did not have for centuries.”Douglas has said he plans to direct his prize money toward promoting activities designed to raise awareness of inclusiveness and diversity in Judaism.World Jewish Congress President Ronald S. Lauder met Douglas in Jerusalem earlier this week, and expressed his admiration for Douglas's efforts against anti-Semitism and BDS, as well as his fight against the delegitimization attempts against Israel.

70 Countries Demand End to Syrian Barrel Bomb Attacks-70 countries across the planet unite to express outrage over the Syrian regime's systematic use of barrel bombs.By Arutz Sheva Staff-First Publish: 6/19/2015, 1:15 AM-israelnationalnews

70 countries across the planet united on Thursday to express outrage over the Syrian regime's systematic use of barrel bombs and to demand an end to the deadly, indiscriminate attacks, according to AFP.May 2015 was "reportedly the deadliest month of the Syrian crisis so far," said a letter addressed to the president of the UN Security Council. The more than four-year war has killed 220,000 people.Recent barrel bombings in and around the northern city of Aleppo had killed hundreds of civilians and wounded dozens "with many victims blown to pieces or burnt beyond recognition," the letter said. The attacks were "among the most brutal perpetrated since the start of the Syrian crisis," it added.Since the beginning of the war, "grisly and horrific" bombings of markets, hospitals, schools, places of worship and residential buildings have killed thousands, the countries said. The indiscriminate use of weapons, including barrel bombs, is prohibited under international law and must cease, said the letter. It called on the Security Council "to advance its efforts" on preventing the Syrian air force from carrying out barrel bombings.Barrel bombs are crude weapons, made of containers packed with explosives and scrap metal, that are typically dropped from helicopters and are one of the regime's weapons of choice.Their use has been criticized by human rights groups because of the indiscriminate death toll they cause among civilians when dropped on residential areas.Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, however, has repeatedly denied using barrel bombs and has suggested in interviews that no such weaponry exists. The 70 countries urged all parties to work towards a political solution and a "genuine political transition" after UN peace envoy Staffan de Mistura extended the latest talks until July.Diplomats say that France has started consultations with its allies on the Security Council to table a specific resolution on barrel bombs in order to increase the political pressure on Damascus.Since the start of the conflict, the Security Council has been frequently paralyzed by China and Russia, which exercised their veto rights to protect Assad.Thursday’s letter, organized by Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, was signed by European countries, Canada and the United States, and regional powers including Saudi Arabia and Turkey, according to AFP.Neither China nor Russia made the list.AFP contributed to this report.
