Kelly, who has faced years of sexual abuse allegations, was ordered held on a $1 million bond on Saturday on charges that he sexually assaulted three teenagers and a woman, as prosecutors offered new details in the case.In Cook County court, prosecutor Jennifer Gonzalez said Kelly met one of the teenaged victims during his trial on child pornography charges in 2008 when she sought his autograph after a day in court and repeatedly had sex with her between 2009 and 2010. Kelly was acquitted of the child porn charges.He met another victim at her 16th birthday party, Gonzalez said, and had sex with her in the first of many encounters in 1998 after telling her to take a taxi from school to his recording studio. A third charge is based on a videotape that purportedly shows Kelly and a 14-year-old girl engaged in sexual acts sometime between 1998 and 2001.The fourth victim was Kelly's hairdresser, then 24, who said Kelly tried to force her to have oral sex in 2003 before ejaculating on her shirt, according to prosecutors. DNA testing linked the sample to Kelly, prosecutors said.Cook County Judge John Lyke, who called the allegations "disturbing," set bail at $1 million for Kelly. WASHINGTON (AP) — The man who long oversaw special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation said Monday that it is not always appropriate for the government to be transparent about its work as he argued that prosecutors should not level public allegations against people they do not charge.Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s comments at an event come as Mueller’s Russia probe winds down and as there is debate about what information should be made public at the end, particularly about individuals who were investigated but not charged.Rosenstein did not discuss Mueller’s work in detail and did not suggest his comments about transparency were specifically about the special counsel’s investigation. But he made several remarks that could be interpreted as setting the stage for the Justice Department to not disclose as much about the investigation, and about the actions of US President Donald Trump, as Democrats in Congress and many in the public might want.“There’s a knee-jerk reaction to suggest that we should be transparent about what we do in government,” Rosenstein said. “But there are a lot of reasons not to be transparent about what we do in government.”He added: “There may be legitimate reasons for making exceptions, but as a general principle, in my view, the Department of Justice is best served when people are confident that … when we’re investigating American citizens in particular, we’re going to do it with appropriate sensitivity to the rights of uncharged people.”Rosenstein was responsible for Mueller’s appointment in May 2017 and has overseen much of his day-to-day work since then. And two-thirds of Canadians believe SNC-Lavalin should be prosecuted, potentially resulting in a 10-year ban on the Quebec-based engineering company receiving public contracts."It's about perceived and real lack of transparency that the Trudeau government has been scrambling, unsuccessfully, to fix," said Angus Reid executive director Shachi Kurl. "The lack of detail enables people's speculation."As of late last week, when the online poll was conducted, Trudeau is facing political backlash for his role in the SNC-Lavalin affair. Sixty per cent of Canadians have an unfavourable opinion of him and over the last month, 59 per cent of respondents said their opinion of Trudeau has worsened.But it appears no party leader is particularly popular. Fifty-four per cent of Canadians think Scheer is unfavourable, and 64 per cent think the NDP's Jagmeet Singh is unfavourable. It is standard for party leaders not to be very well known or popular until weeks before the election, Kurl said.Over the past month, how Canadians view Scheer and Singh has not drastically changed — 55 per cent and 64 per cent of respondents, respectively, feel the same way about each leader."What we see now is Scheer has been able to make swings that hit Trudeau but that hasn't translated to his own gains," Kurl said. US President Donald Trump’s Middle East point man Jared Kushner gave an interview to Sky News Arabic on Monday about the administration’s upcoming peace proposal. He didn’t reveal any details, but uttered the word “borders,” which was enough to send shockwaves throughout Israel’s right-wing parties.New Right leader Naftali Bennett cited the interview Monday to repeat his claim that Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are “coordinating” the release of the peace plan.“Jared’s words prove what we already know: That the day after the elections, the Americans will push the Netanyahu-Lapid-Gantz government to allow the establishment of a Palestinian state on Route 6, to agree to the division of Jerusalem — and Netanyahu will be forced to acquiesce,” Bennett said.He was referring to a possible (though not particularly likely) future coalition of the prime minister’s Likud party with the new Blue and White alliance headed by Yair Lapid and Benny Gantz.The nightmarish scenario called the “establishment of a Palestinian state” could only be prevented by voting for his party, Bennett posited.“In the upcoming election, the question posed is ‘right or Palestine,’” he added. (It sounds better in Hebrew: yemin o Falestin.)
