DR DOCTORION-ANGEL OF THE MIDEAST
"The
angel showed me that the United Nations shall be broken in pieces
because of the crisis in the Middle East. There shall be no more United
Nations. The angel with the sickle shall reap the harvest.
FIRST ANGEL: ASIA
But
the angel said: "Millions will die in China and in India. Nation will
be against nation, brother against brother. Asians will fight each
other. Nuclear weapons shall be used, killing millions."Twice I heard
the words, "Catastrophic! Catastrophic!"Then the angel said, "Financial
crisis will come to Asia. I will shake the world."I was trembling while
the angel was speaking.
SECOND ANGEL: MIDDLE EAST
Then I saw that
the second angel had a sickle in his hand, such as is used in
harvesting. The second angel said: "Harvest time has come in Israel and
the countries all the way to Iran."I saw those countries in a few split
seconds."All of Turkey and those [inaudible] countries that have refused
me and refused my message of love shall hate each other and kill one
another."I saw the angel raise the sickle and come down on all the
Middle East countries. I saw Iran, Persia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, all of
Georgia - Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, all of Asia Minor - full
of blood. I saw blood all over these countries. And I saw fire; Nuclear
weapons used in many of those countries. Smoke rising from everywhere.
Sudden destruction – men destroying one another. I heard these
words:"Israel, Oh Israel, the great judgment has come."

11 And it
shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog (300 MILLION
RUSSIA,GERMANY, IRAN, TURKEY, ARAB MUSLIMS) a place there of graves in
Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: (IN THE
JORDAN VALLEY) and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there
shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The
valley of Hamongog.
12 And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land.
13
Yea, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to
them a renown the day that I shall be glorified, saith the Lord God.
14
And they shall sever out men of continual employment, (NUCLEAR
SPECIALISTS) passing through the land to bury with the passengers those
that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: after the end of
seven months shall they search.
15 And the passengers that pass
through the land, when any seeth a man's bone, then shall he set up a
sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamongog.
16 And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall they cleanse the land.

US to offer new defense of strikes on Iran nuclear sites.
Washington,
June 26 (AFP) Jun 26, 2025-US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is set to
hold a news conference on Thursday to offer a fresh assessment of
strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, following a stinging row over how
much American bombardment set back Tehran's nuclear program. After waves
of Israeli attacks on nuclear and military sites and retaliatory missile
fire from Iran since June 13, the United States bombed three key
Iranian atomic facilities at the weekend. The extent of the damage in
Iran, where Israel said it had acted to stop an imminent nuclear threat,
has become the subject of profound disagreement in the United States. An
initial classified assessment, first reported by CNN, was said to have
concluded that the strike did not destroy key components and that Iran's
nuclear program was set back only months at most.Another key question
raised by experts is whether Iran, preparing for the strike, moved out
some 400 kilogram (880 pounds) of enriched uranium -- which could now be
hidden elsewhere in the vast country. The US administration has hit back
furiously, with Trump repeatedly saying the attack "obliterated" Iran's
nuclear facilities, including the key site of Fordo buried inside a
mountain."I can tell you, the United States had no indication that that
enriched uranium was moved prior to the strikes, as I also saw falsely
reported," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox
News."As for what's on the ground right now, it's buried under miles and
miles of rubble because of the success of these strikes on Saturday
evening," she said.Trump said that Hegseth, whom he dubbed "war"
secretary, would hold a news conference at 8 am (1200 GMT) on Thursday
to "fight for the dignity of our great American pilots".CIA chief John
Ratcliffe said in a statement on Wednesday that "several key Iranian
nuclear facilities were destroyed and would have to be rebuilt over the
course of years".The Israeli military said it had delivered a
"significant" blow to Iran's nuclear sites but that it was "still early"
to fully assess the damage.Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
announced that "we have thwarted Iran's nuclear project"."And if anyone
in Iran tries to rebuild it, we will act with the same determination,
with the same intensity, to foil any attempt," he said.- Nuclear talks?
-Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei told Al Jazeera that
"nuclear installations have been badly damaged, that's for sure".After
the war derailed nuclear talks between Iran and the United States, Trump
said Washington would hold discussions with Tehran next week, with his
special envoy Steve Witkoff expressing hope "for a comprehensive peace
agreement".Trump told reporters that Israel and Iran were "both tired,
exhausted", before going on to say that talks were planned with Iran
next week."We may sign an agreement. I don't know," he added.Iran has
systematically denied seeking a nuclear weapon while defending its
"legitimate rights" to the peaceful use of atomic energy. It has also
said it was willing to return to nuclear negotiations with Washington. In
both Iran and Israel, authorities have gradually lifted wartime
restrictions.Iran on Wednesday reopened the airspace over the country's
east, without allowing yet flights to and from the capital Tehran. In the
Israeli coastal hub of Tel Aviv, 45-year-old engineer Yossi Bin
welcomed the ceasefire: "Finally, we can sleep peacefully. We feel
better, less worried... and I hope it stays that way."- State funeral
-While Iran and Israel have been locked in a shadow war for decades,
their 12-day conflict was by far the most destructive confrontation
between them. The Israeli strikes on Iran killed at least 627 civilians,
Tehran's health ministry said.Iran's attacks on Israel killed 28 people,
according to official figures.According to Mehr news agency, the
funeral of Revolutionary Guard commander Hossein Salami, who was killed
in an Israeli strike, will no longer be held in his hometown on
Thursday.Instead, a state funeral will be held on Saturday in Tehran for
top commanders including Salami and nuclear scientists killed in the
war.burs-ami/ser

Threatening to ‘slap’ US again, Iran’s Khamenei claims Trump exaggerated strikes-Speaking for first time after week of silence, supreme leader says America only intervened for fear Iran would destroy Israel, asserts attacks on nuclear sites were insignificant-By Agencies and ToI Staff Today, 5:04 pm-JUN 26,25
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei claimed US President Donald Trump had “exaggerated” the impact of strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, while threatening to repeat the “slap” his country had dealt American forces in the region, speaking in a televised address Thursday.Khamenei, making his first appearance in over a week after going into hiding amid a punishing Israeli air campaign that killed many of his top generals, also hailed his country’s “victory” in the 12-day air war launched by Israel, which he claimed had “almost collapsed” because of Iran’s strikes. The statement and a televised speech carried by state media came two days after a ceasefire ended the war between Iran and Israel, as analysts attempted to work out the extent to which Iran’s nuclear program had been set back.“The American president exaggerated events in unusual ways, and it turned out that he needed this exaggeration,” Khamenei said, looking more tired than he did a week ago.The United States “has gained nothing from this war,” he added, claiming that American strikes “did nothing significant” to Iran’s nuclear facilities.“The Islamic Republic won, and in retaliation dealt a severe slap to the face of America,” he said, referring to Iran’s missile launch targeting a military base in Qatar housing US troops.According to Washington and Doha, that attack was telegraphed in advance in what was widely seen as an Iranian attempt to avoid escalating the conflict. All but one missile fired at the al-Udeid air base was intercepted, and there were no casualties.“Such an action can be repeated in the future, too,” he threatened, saying that Iran has “access to key US centers in the region and can take action whenever it deems necessary.”“Should any aggression occur, the enemy will definitely pay a heavy price,” he said. “Surrender will never happen. Our nation is powerful.”Khamenei told viewers that the US had only intervened in the war because “it felt that if it did not intervene, the Zionist regime would be utterly destroyed.”“I want to congratulate the great Iranian nation… for its victory over the fallacious Zionist regime,” he said. He sat in front of plain brown curtains, similar to those seen behind him in his previous message on June 19, indicating he may still be in hiding. The 86-year-old Khamenei hasn’t been seen in public since taking shelter in a secret location after the outbreak of the war on June 13, when Israel staged a surprise attack on Iranian nuclear facilities and targeted top military commanders and scientists. A state funeral will be held on Saturday in Tehran for top commanders and nuclear scientists killed in the war.The comments were his first since June 19. Reports had indicated that he was prevented from communicating with the outside world due to fears of giving away his location. During the war, Israel purported to have penetrated deeply into Tehran’s inner sanctums, targeting supposedly secret meetings of top military commanders.Israel said its sweeping assault on Iran’s top military leaders, nuclear scientists, uranium enrichment sites, and ballistic missile program was necessary to prevent the Islamic Republic from realizing its avowed plan to destroy the Jewish stateIran has consistently denied seeking to acquire nuclear weapons. However, it has enriched uranium to levels that have no peaceful application, has obstructed international inspectors from checking its nuclear facilities, and expanded its ballistic missile capabilities. Israel said it had recently taken steps toward weaponization.Iran retaliated by launching some 550 ballistic missiles and 1,000 drones at Israel, most of which were intercepted.Around 30 missiles and a single drone impacted inside Israel, according to the military. Some hit apartment buildings, universities and a hospital, killing 28 people, wounding thousands and causing heavy damage, Israeli authorities said. Both Iran and Israel had already claimed they won, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday hailing a “historic victory” for Israel. After waves of Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear and military sites as well as Iranian missile and drone fire, mainly on Israeli population centers, since June 13, the United States bombed three key Iranian atomic facilities early Sunday, including dropping massive bunker-buster munitions on the underground Fordo site and a subterranean portion of the Natanz complex. It also used submarine-fired Tomahawk missiles against Natanz as well as the Isfahan facility.Khamenei spoke before US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth offered a fresh assessment of the attacks, aimed at countering an initial classified assessment, which CNN reported had concluded that the strikes did not destroy key components and that Iran’s nuclear program was set back only months at most.In the United States, leaked intelligence this week opened up a Pandora’s box of accusations and counter-claims over the extent of the damage caused by the strikes. The US administration has hit back furiously, with Trump saying the attack “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear facilities.CIA chief John Ratcliffe said in a statement on Wednesday that “several key Iranian nuclear facilities were destroyed and would have to be rebuilt over the course of years.”The Israeli military said it had delivered a “significant” blow to Iran’s nuclear sites but that it was too early to fully assess the damage.Netanyahu announced Tuesday that “we have thwarted Iran’s nuclear project.”“And if anyone in Iran tries to rebuild it, we will act with the same determination, with the same intensity, to foil any attempt,” he said.
Analysis-A battered Iran faces an uncertain future after its bruising war with Israel-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei must regroup and reassert control while overseeing a failing economy and deciding what direction to take with the nuclear program-By Jon Gambrell and Lee Keath Today, 3:24 pm-JUN 26,25
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The bombing has quieted in Iran’s 12-day conflict with Israel. Now its battered theocracy and 86-year-old Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei must regroup and rebuild in a changed landscape.Israeli airstrikes decimated the upper ranks of Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guard and depleted its arsenal of ballistic missiles. Israeli missiles and American bunker-buster bombs damaged the nuclear program — though how much remains disputed.Khamenei, who took shelter in a secret location during the bombardment, has not appeared in public since, only issuing a video message on Thursday, his first in over a week.Iran’s self-described “Axis of Resistance,” a group of allied countries and militias in the Mideast, has been mauled by the Israelis since Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel, which triggered the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip. Foreign support Tehran may have expected from China and Russia never materialized. At home, old problems remain, particularly an economy wrecked by international sanctions, corruption, and mismanagement.“Iran’s leadership has been dealt a heavy blow and will be conscious of preserving the ceasefire, which gives the regime breathing room and allows space to focus on internal security and reconstruction,” the Eurasia Group, a political risk consultancy, said in an analysis Wednesday.Shoring up loyalty-One thing Israel’s campaign showed was how much its intelligence agencies have infiltrated Iran — particularly its swift pinpointing of military and Guard commanders and top nuclear scientists for strikes. The No. 1 task for Khamenei may be to root out any suspected disloyalty in the ranks.“There must be some sort of purge. But who will implement it? That is the question,” said Hamidreza Azizi, a visiting fellow at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs.“This level of distrust that apparently exists now is going to paralyze any effective planning or security overhaul,” he said.Aziz said the mistrust and uncertainty could be “why Khamenei hasn’t come out of his shelter.”In that atmosphere, rebuilding Iran’s military, particularly its Revolutionary Guard, will be a challenge. But the forces have a deep bench of officers. One top survivor of the war, Gen. Esmail Qaani, in charge of the Guard’s expeditionary Quds Force, was seen in videos of a pro-government demonstration in Tehran on Tuesday. On the civilian side, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi found himself empowered to the level of almost a de facto prime minister, publishing announcements on the ceasefire while others in Tehran remained silent.Khamenei also has to rethink the security policy he wove together over the past two decades. The “Axis of Resistance” alliances allowed Iran to project its power across the Mideast but also were seen as a defensive buffer, intended to keep conflict away from Iranian borders. That buffer has now been shown to be a failure.Race for a bomb? After Israel’s campaign exposed Iran’s vulnerabilities, Khamenei might conclude that his country can only protect itself by turning its nuclear capability into an actual bomb, as North Korea did.Iran, which is sworn to destroy Israel, has always said its nuclear program is peaceful. But it is the only non-nuclear armed state to have enriched uranium to 60%, a short step from weapons-grade.Many observers believe Khamenei opposed taking that step to a weapon to avoid a war, Azizi said. But now voices within the system demanding a bomb are likely growing, he said. “We might have already passed that threshold for Khamenei’s viewpoint to change.”Still, any drive for a nuclear weapon would be a major gamble. The extent of damage from the US and Israeli barrages remains unclear, but Iran certainly needs to rebuild its nuclear facilities and centrifuge infrastructure, whether that takes months or years. And it would have to do all that in extreme secrecy, concealed from Israeli and US intelligence. Were Israel to catch wind, it could resume strikes.Khamenei could also take the opposite path, resuming talks with the United States in hopes of winning sanctions relief.US Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff, appearing Tuesday night on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle,” called the chance for future negotiations “promising.”“We’re already talking to each other,” he said. “We are hopeful we can have a long-term peace agreement that resurrects Iran.”Challenges at home-Many also fear an intensified crackdown on dissent, as a leadership battered by war regroups amid mounting problems at home. Iran’s frail economy has been wrecked by international sanctions, corruption, and years of mismanagement. For months, the ailing power grid has been plagued by hours-long, rolling blackouts. The flight of much of Tehran’s population during the war temporarily eased the strain. But as they return, even longer blackouts are likely to come roaring back during the worst of the summer months, disrupting everything from bakeries to factories. The war also shut down Tehran’s stock market and currency exchange shops, pausing a collapse of Iran’s riyal currency.Back in 2015 when Iran reached its nuclear deal with world powers, the rial traded at 32,000 to $1. Today, it is near 1 million rials to the dollar. Once businesses reopen in force, the plunge could resume. The economy has sparked unrest in the past. After state-set gasoline prices rose in 2019, protests spread across some 100 cities and towns, with gas stations and banks burned down. In the ensuing crackdown, at least 321 people were killed and thousands detained, according to Amnesty International. Then there’s the 2022 protests over the death of Mahsa Amini, a young woman who had been detained by security forces allegedly over not wearing her headscarf, or hijab, to their liking. In a monthslong crackdown, more than 500 were killed and over 22,000 detained. Many women in Tehran still refuse to wear the hijab. But activists worry the war will trigger new restrictions. In an open letter last weekend, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi wrote that “the Islamic Republic is a religious, authoritarian, and misogynistic regime — incapable of reform and systematically violating the fundamental rights of the Iranian people.”But she called for a ceasefire in the war “because I firmly believe that democracy and peace will not emerge from the dark and terrifying corridors of war and violence.”Questions persist over Khamenei’s successor-Despite Israel’s talk of eliminating him, Khamenei survived this confrontation. What comes after him remains unknown. The war could fuel a change in the Islamic Republic itself, pushing it more towards military-style rule.Under the Islamic Republic, leading Shiite clerics stand at the top of the hierarchy, drawing the lines to which the civilian government, the military and intelligence and security establishment must submit. As supreme leader, Khamenei symbolizes that clerical power.A panel of Shiite clerics is tasked with choosing one of their own as his successor. Several names have been touted, including Khamenei’s son and the grandson of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the father of the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Some candidates are seen as more hardline, some more open to reform.Whoever is chosen, military and Guard commanders may more than ever be the power behind the robes.“People have been talking of a transition from clergy-dominated Islamic Republic to a military-dominated Islamic Republic,” Azizi said. “This war has made that scenario more plausible… The next government will be more military-security oriented.”
Iran MPs' vote to suspend IAEA cooperation is 'wrong signal': Berlin.
Berlin,
June 26 (AFP) Jun 26, 2025-Germany on Thursday urged Iran to keep
working with the UN's nuclear watchdog, labelling a vote by Iranian
lawmakers to halt cooperation with the IAEA "a totally wrong
signal".Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul told journalists that Germany
"urges the Iranian government not to go down this path".Wadephul's
comments came a day after the vote in Iran's parliament, and following a
12-day war that saw Israeli and US strikes on nuclear
facilities.According to Iranian state TV, parliament speaker Mohammad
Bagher Ghalibaf said the International Atomic Energy Agency "refused to
even marginally condemn the attack on Iran's nuclear facilities" and had
"put its international credibility up for auction".The decision of the
Iranian parliament still requires the approval of Iran's Guardian
Council, a body empowered to vet legislation.Wadephul also said there
were "hopeful signs" of US-Iran talks after President Donald Trump said
they would take place next week."We are directing all our diplomatic
efforts towards finding a binding agreement as soon as possible,"
Wadephul said, during a joint news conference with his Canadian
counterpart Anita Anand. He added that the so-called E3 grouping of
Britain, France and Germany would "play a central role" in any talks and
that "Iran expressly wants a European component".
Israel said to
halt Gaza aid after Smotrich threat to quit government over Hamas
theft-Netanyahu, defense minister Katz give IDF 48 hours to find ways to
stop terror group seizing supplies, as videos emerge of gunmen riding
trucks, handing out cargo in north Gaza-By Nurit Yohanan,Lazar
Berman-and Agencies Today, 1:29 pm-JUN 26,25
Israel has halted
aid deliveries into Gaza, Channel 12 news reported Wednesday, citing an
unnamed Israeli official, amid concerns that Hamas is seizing the
deliveries and threats by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to quit the
government. The report came shortly after the Prime Minister’s Office
announced that the military had been ordered to present a plan within
the next two days on how to keep Hamas from stealing humanitarian
assistance. The Israeli official quoted by Channel 12 said the statement
from the PMO came after Smotrich threatened that he could no longer
remain in the government if immediate action wasn’t taken to prevent aid
from reaching Hamas. The far-right politician, who has consistently
demanded a tough stance on Gaza, did not make the reported threat
publicly, though he has in the past said he would bolt the government if
the war in Gaza ended before the complete destruction of Hamas. The
official said the pause on aid deliveries will remain in place until the
IDF presents its plan.Earlier, Netanyahu, in a joint statement with
Defense Minister Israel Katz, said that Hamas was taking control of
humanitarian aid entering the northern Gaza Strip and stealing it from
Gazan civilians.“Following information received today indicating that
Hamas is once again taking control of humanitarian aid entering northern
Gaza and stealing it from civilians, the prime minister and the defense
minister have instructed the IDF to present within 48 hours an
operational plan to prevent Hamas from taking over the aid,” the PMO
said in a statement. The announcement came an hour after former prime
minister Naftali Bennett, who looks to be a leading challenger to
Netanyahu in the next election, posted on X a video of armed men he said
were Hamas operatives riding on trucks full of humanitarian aid that
they had taken control of. He wrote that soldiers on the ground told him
their orders are to let trucks into Gaza with no attempt to control
what happens to them.“This is how we continue to supply Hamas with money
and power,” Bennett wrote in criticism of the government’s handling of
the situation.Israel has accused Hamas of hoarding aid and selling it at
exorbitant rates amid the war sparked on October 7, 2023, when the
terror group stormed southern Israel, killing some 1,200 people and
taking 251 hostages. The UN and humanitarian aid groups have repeatedly
warned that there is not enough food in Gaza and famine is
imminent.Israel has in the past halted aid, accusing Hamas of abusing
supplies. Last month, a new organization, the US- and Israel-backed Gaza
Humanitarian Foundation, opened four distribution centers aimed at
delivering aid directly to Gazans and preventing Hamas from diverting
the goods.Footage published by Palestinian media on Thursday showed
humanitarian aid being distributed from trucks in Gaza City, in the
northern part of the Strip. According to the reports, the trucks had
reached their destination and their cargo was being distributed by local
clans and “security committees,” both of which operate under the
authority of Hamas. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation does not operate an
aid distribution center in northern Gaza, as it does in the south and
center.Humanitarian organizations operating under the UN framework, such
as the World Food Program, are currently responsible for distributing
humanitarian aid in northern Gaza.In south and central Gaza, GHF
operations have been plagued by deadly shooting incidents as hundreds of
thousands of Gazans try to reach the centers. The IDF does not run the
centers, though it does provide security along access routes. Though
admitting that in some cases troops opened fire when Palestinians
approached their positions, Israel also accuses Hamas of deliberately
provoking violence at the centers. On Thursday, Hamas-controlled health
authorities said that three people were killed and dozens were wounded
as crowds awaited UN aid trucks along a main route in central Gaza. The
UN and major aid groups have refused to cooperate with the foundation
over concerns that it was designed to cater to Israeli military
objectives. The GHF began operating in Gaza after a nearly three-month
blockade Israel placed on the Strip following the collapse of the last
ceasefire-hostage deal with Hamas in early March.
Tehran will
restore its nuclear program, Iranian atomic chief vows-Mohammad Eslami
says Iran prepped in advance for damage to nuclear sites; IAEA chief
welcomes uncertain truce, urges Tehran to pursue diplomatic solution By
Lazar Berman,Agencies and ToI Staff 24 June 2025, 1:43 pm
Iran is
assessing the damage to its nuclear industry following Israel’s
intensive 12-day campaign against it, and arrangements have been made
for its restoration, Iran’s nuclear chief Mohammad Eslami said
Tuesday.“The plan is to prevent interruptions in the process of
production and services,” Eslami said, according to Iran’s state-owned
Mehr News, claiming that Tehran had been prepared for damage to its
nuclear sites.Iran’s nuclear program took serious blows in Israel’s
bombings since June 13, and particularly early on Sunday, when the US
dropped massive bunker-buster munitions and fired missiles at three of
its nuclear facilities, joining the Israeli campaign. The Israeli and
American strikes targeted uranium enrichment sites and various research
and development facilities tied to the program. Washington and Jerusalem
have asserted that the bombings caused significant damage to Iran’s
nuclear ambitions and set the country back considerably.Early Tuesday
morning, US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between Iran
and Israel following the strikes, urging both sides “not to violate it.”
It was not immediately clear how Washington and Jerusalem intended to
solidify the military achievements and prevent Iran from restarting its
nuclear efforts following that announcement. Both countries confirmed the
ceasefire after it was announced, but the truce appeared on the verge
of collapse mere hours after his declaration, when Iran launched two
missiles toward northern Israel. Israel’s leaders vowed
retaliation.Iran’s ISNA news agency asserted that reports Iran had fired
missiles after the ceasefire took effect were false.UN nuclear watchdog
chief Rafael Grossi said Tuesday that he had written to Iran’s Foreign
Minister Abbas Araghchi to propose a meeting and urged cooperation after
the ceasefire was announced.Grossi, the director general of the
International Atomic Energy Agency, wrote in a post on X that Iran
resuming cooperation with the agency could lead to a diplomatic solution
to the long-standing controversy over Tehran’s nuclear
program.Meanwhile, France welcomed Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire,
calling for a “complete cessation of hostilities.”“It is in everyone’s
interest to avoid a new cycle of violence, the consequences of which
would be catastrophic for the entire region,” it said.“Iran must never
possess nuclear weapons,” the French statement continued. “In this
regard, France urges Iran to engage immediately in negotiations leading
to an agreement that addresses all concerns related to its nuclear and
ballistic missile programs and its destabilizing activities.”That
statement came as Israel promised retaliation for the Tuesday morning
missile attack.Israel has said its sweeping assault on Iran’s top
military leaders, nuclear scientists, uranium enrichment sites and
ballistic missile program was necessary to prevent the Islamic Republic
from realizing its avowed plan to destroy the Jewish state.Iran has
consistently denied seeking to acquire nuclear weapons. However, it has
enriched uranium to levels that have no peaceful application, has
obstructed international inspectors from checking its nuclear
facilities, and expanded its ballistic missile capabilities. Israel said
Tehran had recently taken steps toward weaponization.Iran retaliated
for Israel’s attacks by launching some 550 ballistic missiles and around
1,000 drones at Israel. Iran’s missile attacks killed 28 people and
wounded thousands in Israel, according to health officials and
hospitals. Some of the missiles hit apartment buildings, a university and
a hospital, causing heavy damage.
China hosts Iran, Russia defence ministers against backdrop of 'turmoil'
Qingdao,
China, June 26 (AFP) Jun 26, 2025-China hosted defence ministers from
Iran and Russia for a meeting in its eastern seaside city of Qingdao on
Thursday against the backdrop of war in the Middle East and a summit of
NATO countries in Europe that agreed to boost military spending.Beijing
has long sought to present the 10-member Shanghai Cooperation
Organisation (SCO) as a counterweight to Western-led power blocs and has
pushed to strengthen collaboration between its member countries in
politics, security, trade and science. The Qingdao meeting of the
organisation's top defence officials comes as a fledgling ceasefire
between Israel and Iran holds after 12 days of fighting between the
arch-foes.It is also being held the day after a summit of North Atlantic
Treaty Organization (NATO) leaders in The Hague, where members agreed
to ramp up their defence spending to satisfy US President Donald
Trump.Beijing's ties with Moscow are also in the spotlight.China has
portrayed itself as a neutral party in Russia's war with Ukraine,
although Western governments say its close ties have given Moscow
crucial economic and diplomatic support.Russian Defence Minister Andrei
Belousov painted a bleak picture of a world seeing "worsening
geopolitical tensions" when he addressed his counterparts at the
meeting."The current military and political situation in the world
remains difficult and shows signs of further deterioration," he said,
according to a Russian defence ministry statement. His Chinese
counterpart Dong Jun also framed Thursday's meeting in Qingdao, home to a
major Chinese naval base, as a counterweight to a world "marked by
intertwined turmoil and changes"."It is all the more important for the
Shanghai Cooperation Organization to play its role as an anchor of
stability," he said, according to state news agency Xinhua.- Backing for
Iran? -Recent fighting between Israel, Iran and the United States was
also likely discussed in Qingdao.Beijing refrained from offering
anything more than diplomatic support to its close partner Tehran
throughout that conflict, reflecting its limited leverage in the region
and reluctance to worsen relations with the United States."Public
backing for Iran will come in the form of words, rather than deeds,"
James Char, an expert on the Chinese army at Nanyang Technological
University in Singapore, told AFP."Other than condemning the US strikes
on Iran, Beijing can be expected to continue treading cautiously in the
Middle East's security issues and would not want to be dragged into the
region's security challenges," he said.Iran's defence minister will
likely "discuss with China the supply of weapons but I doubt China would
agree", said Andrea Ghiselli, an expert in China foreign policy and a
lecturer at Exeter University."It would be seen as provocative by both
Israel... and, even more important for China, the US, with which Beijing
is trying to stabilise relations," Ghiselli said.India's Defence
Minister Rajnath Singh, also in attendance in Qingdao, said SCO members
should "collectively aspire to fulfil the aspirations and expectations
of our people as well as tackle today's challenges"."The world we live
in is undergoing a drastic transformation. Globalisation, which once
brought us closer together, has been losing momentum," he said in
comments his office posted on social media.
Iran’s Victory: Supreme Guide Hails “Slap” at Israel & US-by James Carter June 26, 2025
The
echoes of Ayatollah Khamenei’s statements regarding Iran’s stance in
the ongoing conflict – notably his assertion of a “scathing slap” to the
US and his assessment of Israel’s vulnerability – reverberate far
beyond the immediate headlines. This isn’t just a moment of geopolitical
theater; it’s a glimpse into a potential future where Iran’s influence,
backed by its nuclear program and strategic alliances, reshapes the
very fabric of the Middle East and beyond. Are we on the cusp of a new,
and perhaps more volatile, era? Unpacking Khamenei’s Words: Beyond the
Immediate Conflict-Khamenei’s words, as reported across multiple news
outlets, signal a long-term strategic perspective. While the immediate
focus might be on the current conflict, the underlying message is one of
resilience and confidence in Iran’s ability to withstand pressure. His
comments suggest a belief that US efforts in the region have been
ineffective, and that the “Hebrew state” is on a path toward collapse.
This perspective is crucial for understanding Iran’s future actions. The
key takeaway here is not just the immediate impact of the military
strikes, but the broader narrative Iran is constructing about its
strength and the perceived failures of its adversaries. This narrative
shapes perceptions, influences allies, and potentially emboldens Iran to
pursue more assertive policies. The Nuclear Factor: A Silent but
Powerful Influence-Ayatollah Khamenei’s assertion that Iranian nuclear
sites “are not disturbed” carries immense weight. This tacit
acknowledgment of the nation’s nuclear capabilities, regardless of the
current status of negotiations, underscores Iran’s leverage. The specter
of a nuclear-armed Iran drastically alters the geopolitical calculus in
the region, making existing threats and alliances less stable and
predictable. The potential for escalation is significant. The
international community has long sought to limit Iran’s nuclear
ambitions, but the current situation, especially in light of the recent
escalations, indicates a more complex reality. The future will depend on
how successful these limitations are, and any potential relaxation of
these could have grave implications.Future Trends: A Deep Dive into
Geopolitical Shifts-Understanding Khamenei’s statements requires us to
consider the broader geopolitical landscape. Several key trends are
likely to shape the future of the Middle East and Iran’s role within
it.The Rise of Regional Power Brokers-Iran is not operating in a vacuum.
China, Russia, and other regional actors like Turkey and Saudi Arabia
are also vying for influence. The shifting balance of power creates new
opportunities and challenges. For example, Russia’s ongoing conflict in
Ukraine and increasing isolation from the West could lead to greater
strategic alignment with Iran. The increasing fragmentation of the global
order could result in the diminishing influence of long-standing
powers, creating a power vacuum in the Middle East. This could embolden
Iran to seek more regional influence. The Proxy War Dilemma-Iran’s
support for various proxy groups, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas
in Palestine, is a key aspect of its foreign policy. These groups allow
Iran to exert influence without direct military involvement, however,
these groups could drag Iran into larger and more disastrous
conflicts. The future will likely see the rise in proxy wars, especially
if the nuclear agreement stalls or is violated. This means more regional
conflicts, a wider range of actors, and potentially unpredictable
outcomes. The Cyber and Hybrid Warfare Arena-As conventional military
power becomes more expensive and politically difficult to deploy, cyber
warfare and other forms of hybrid warfare will continue to increase in
significance. For instance, Iran has already shown its capabilities in
cyber operations, which could be used against its rivals in the
region. This means increased efforts by Iran and its allies to conduct
cyber espionage, disinformation campaigns, and attacks on critical
infrastructure. States may find themselves in a state of near-constant
cyber warfare.Actionable Insights for Navigating the Future-So, what
does this mean for those of us who are interested in this topic? How can
we prepare for what might be around the corner? Pay close attention to
the dynamics between Iran and its allies, and the same for its rivals.
These relationships are complex and often shift based on events and
strategic considerations. For example, China and Russia’s relationship
with Iran may shift and change depending on the evolution of the war in
Ukraine and other global factors. This will provide a better perspective
on the potential moves the various players in this conflict will make.
Consider how global alliances and partnerships will shift and change
depending on these events.Prepare for Economic Impacts-Geopolitical
instability often has significant economic consequences, so it’s
important to consider how the evolving situation could impact
investments, energy markets, and international trade. Prepare for
volatility and be ready to adapt your strategies as needed. This means
diversifying your portfolio, investing in safe assets like precious
metals, and staying informed about the changes in the global economy.Did
you know? Iran has the world’s fourth-largest oil reserves. This gives
it significant economic leverage, which will likely be used as a tool in
future geopolitical maneuverings.Consider the role of Diplomacy-The
future will likely contain many diplomatic talks and negotiations.
Understanding that diplomatic efforts will be the most likely way of
resolving the current issues at hand will be key. Look out for meetings
and attempts to strike compromises and new alliances that will affect
the future course of action. This will require a deep understanding of
the history between all the parties involved in this conflict and the
future roles that each of them may take on.Expert Insight: A Perspective
on the Future“Iran’s strategic actions in the coming years will be
defined by a complex interplay of internal politics, regional ambitions,
and international pressure. The key to understanding the future lies in
recognizing the interconnectedness of these factors and the importance
of a nuanced approach.” – Dr. Leila Ahmed, Middle East Policy
Analyst-Frequently Asked Questions-What is the most likely outcome of
the current tensions? While it’s impossible to predict the future, a
sustained period of heightened tension and proxy conflict seems more
likely than a full-scale military confrontation. The focus will be on
navigating a complex web of strategic alliances and economic factors. How
can I protect my investments during this time? Diversifying your
portfolio across various asset classes, including gold and other
safe-haven assets, is a prudent approach. Staying informed about market
trends and geopolitical developments is critical. What are the key
factors that will influence Iran’s future actions?Iran’s actions will be
influenced by the success of its nuclear program, the evolving
geopolitical landscape, and the strength of its regional alliances. How
can I stay informed about these developments? Follow reputable news
sources, consult with experts in Middle Eastern politics, and be mindful
of misinformation.Key Takeaway: The situation in the Middle East is at a
pivotal juncture. Understanding Iran’s strategic ambitions, the
shifting balance of power, and the impact of hybrid warfare is crucial
for navigating the future. A combination of heightened awareness,
adaptability, and thoughtful strategic planning will be essential. The
rise of regional actors, coupled with the ever-present nuclear threat,
will demand a comprehensive reassessment of the strategic environment.
The future is certainly uncertain, but by understanding the complexities
of this situation, readers of Archyde.com can be well-positioned to
understand the future. What are your predictions for the future of the

US Radar Test Marks Milestone in Missile Threat Detection Capabilities-by Clarence Oxford.
Los
Angeles CA (SPX) Jun 26, 2025-Lockheed Martin and the Missile Defense
Agency (MDA) have completed a pivotal test of next-generation radar
technology during Flight Test Other-26a (FTX-26a), confirming a major
advancement in US homeland defense. The Long Range Discrimination Radar
(LRDR), developed by Lockheed Martin, successfully detected, tracked,
and discriminated a live ballistic missile threat amid challenging
conditions in the north Pacific. The system distinguished real threats
from decoys and background clutter, reinforcing its role in national
deterrence."Deterrence begins with detection, and the successful FTX-26a
demonstration underscored LRDR's ability to detect and track threats at
extended ranges, while accurately distinguishing between targets and
non-targets," said Rick Cordaro, vice president of Lockheed Martin's
Radar and Sensor Systems. "This technical advancement will significantly
bolster our nation's deterrence capabilities, providing a game-changing
asset for homeland defense. With its open architecture, LRDR will
facilitate the seamless integration of emerging technologies and
software, enabling warfighters to receive timely, actionable information
for decision-making and drives rapid response."The test scenario
involved an air-launched target equipped with countermeasures. Under the
direction of the Command and Control Battle Management and
Communications (C2BMC) system, LRDR tracked the target and relayed data
to C2BMC, which then shared it to support a simulated Ground-Based
Midcourse Defense (GMD) intercept.Key outcomes from FTX-26a included the
LRDR's ability to perform its core mission functions in a realistic,
cluttered environment and C2BMC's success in providing real-time radar
data for integrated missile defense operations. The successful test
underscores LRDR's open-system design, which supports future technology
upgrades and enhances interoperability across defense platforms.
France
says it intercepted drones targeting Israel during Iran war-Defense
Minister Lecornu reveals French army shot down ‘fewer than 10’ drones,
using aircraft and surface-to-air missiles By Reuters and ToI Staff
Today, 1:42 pm-JUN 26,25
PARIS — France’s military took part in
efforts to stop Iranian drones targeting Israel prior to this week’s
ceasefire, the country’s defense minister Sebastien Lecornu said late on
Wednesday.“I can confirm that the French army intercepted fewer than 10
drones in the last few days during the different military operations
conducted by the Islamic Republic of Iran against Israel, either by
ground-to-air systems or via our Rafale fighter jets,” Lecornu said
during a parliamentary debate on the situation in the Middle East.Early
in the war, French President Emmanuel Macron said that France could help
defend Israel against an attack from Iran “if in a position to do
so.”Iran, meanwhile, had threatened to retaliate against US, UK, and
French bases in the Middle East if they helped stop strikes on Israel,
though it did not carry out that threat.Iran launched some 550 ballistic
missiles and 1,000 drones at Israel during the war, according to the
IDF.The vast majority of the drones, which are slower-moving but harder
to track than missiles, failed to even make it to Israel’s borders. Just
one drone hit a populated area, a home in the northern town of Beit
She’an, causing heavy damage but no injuries. Most of the missiles were
intercepted by Israeli and American air defenses at an interception rate
of around 90 percent, similar to the rate in Iran’s April and October
2024 attacks on Israel. At least 31 ballistic missile impacts were
reported in populated areas or critical infrastructure sites, including a
power station in southern Israel, an oil refinery in Haifa, a
university in central Israel and a hospital in Beersheba. Dozens of
other missiles struck open areas, without causing significant
damage.Israel has said its sweeping assault on Iran’s top military
leaders, nuclear scientists, uranium enrichment sites, and ballistic
missile program, launched on June 13, was necessary to prevent the
Islamic Republic from realizing its avowed plan to destroy the Jewish
state.Iran has consistently denied seeking to acquire nuclear weapons.
However, it has enriched uranium to levels that have no peaceful
application, has obstructed international inspectors from checking its
nuclear facilities, and expanded its ballistic missile capabilities.
Israel says it has recently taken steps toward weaponization.Iran’s
ballistic missile attacks on Israel during the 12 days of war claimed
the lives of 28 people — all but one of them civilians — and wounded
over 3,000 people.A US-brokered ceasefire began on Tuesday, ending the
fighting.

Six million donkeys slaughtered for Chinese medicine: charity.
Addis
Ababa, June 26 (AFP) Jun 26, 2025-Almost six million donkeys are
slaughtered annually for Chinese medicine, with severe knock-on effects
for African villagers who rely on the animals, a UK-based charity said
on Thursday. It is driven by an increase in China's production of ejiao
-- a product marketed as a health supplement that uses collagen from
donkey skins -- which is a $6.8-billion industry, according to
China-based research firm Qianzhan.China, whose donkey population has
plummeted from 11 million in 1992 to 1.5 million in 2023, has turned to
Africa to meet its demand. With donkey populations falling, the African
Union issued a 15-year moratorium on donkey slaughter last year.UK-based
charity The Donkey Sanctuary said "the ejiao industry drives a massive
global trade in donkey skins, much of it illegal".It said around 5.9
million donkeys were killed worldwide last year. The ejiao trade is
expected to require at least 6.8 million donkey skins by 2027.The rising
value of donkeys means they have increasingly become targets for
criminals."Traders exploit vulnerable people using large and
sophisticated networks of agents to pressure donkey owners into selling
their animals," the charity said."Illegal networks operate across the
continent, often without consequence, stealing and slaughtering donkeys
in the night," it added."Donkeys die in often unregulated, inhumane, and
unsanitary conditions, and large numbers perish on their way to
slaughterhouses," it continued. The impact on humans is particularly felt
by women and children, who rely on donkeys for farming activities such
as ploughing and for carrying goods to market. The criminal operations
also generated health risks, The Donkey Sanctuary said."The
transportation of untreated skins and improper disposal of donkey
carcasses risk triggering the spread of infectious diseases and damaging
local ecosystems."
Six dead from floods in China's south: state media.
Beijing,
June 26 (AFP) Jun 26, 2025-Six people have died from floods inundating
China's Guizhou province, state media said Thursday, after more than
80,000 people were driven from their homes this week.Deluges in Guizhou
-- classified as a southwestern province by the Chinese government --
have prompted authorities to activate the highest-level emergency flood
response, evacuating around 80,900 people by Tuesday. On Thursday state
broadcaster CCTV said "exceptionally large floods" had swept through
Guizhou's Rongjiang county since Tuesday."As of 11 am on Thursday... six
people have unfortunately lost their lives," the report said, citing
the local flood control headquarters."Many low-lying areas in the county
were flooded, and the infrastructure of some towns was seriously
damaged, resulting in traffic obstruction, communications blackouts, and
some people being trapped," the broadcaster said."The water level in
the county has now retreated below the warning level," it added, saying
"post-disaster recovery and reconstruction and investigation of trapped
people are underway".Xinhua reported Wednesday that a football field in
Rongjiang was "submerged under three meters of water", and a resident
told the news agency they were rescued from the third floor of their
home.Guangxi, a region that borders Guizhou, has also been hit by
torrential rains, with Xinhua publishing photographs of mud flowing onto
residential streets in Meilin Township.Flood alarms have been triggered
along 20 rivers running through Guangxi in recent days, Xinhua
reported.Landslides and flooding have damaged communications
infrastructure in the region, with Guangxi's telecommunications
authorities vowing to "actively communicate and share information" with
other government departments for disaster relief.China is enduring a
summer of extreme weather. This week, authorities issued the
second-highest heat warning for the capital Beijing on one of its
hottest days of the year so far.And tens of thousands of people were
evacuated last week in Hunan province -- neighbouring Guizhou -- due to
heavy rain.

Democrats fret about national fallout
after Mamdani stuns in New York City-Far-left, Israel-bashing
democratic socialist’s win exposes divisions in party between the
progressive wing and establishment, provides fodder for RepublicansBy
Steve Peoples and ANTHONY IZAGUIRRE Today, 7:32 am-JUN 26,25
NEW
YORK (AP) — The stunning success of Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old
self-described democratic socialist, in the race for New York City mayor
has exposed anew the fiery divisions plaguing the Democratic Party as
it struggles to repair its brand nearly half a year into Donald Trump’s
presidency.A fresh round of infighting erupted among Democratic
officials, donors and political operatives on Wednesday, a day after
Mamdani’s leading opponent, former New York governor Andrew Cuomo,
conceded the Democratic primary. Mamdani appears on a glide path to the
nomination, though ranked-choice vote counting will determine the final
outcome next week. Many progressives cheered the emergence of the young
and charismatic Mamdani, whose candidacy caught on with viral campaign
videos and a focus on the cost of living. But the party’s more pragmatic
wing cast the outcome as a serious setback in their quest to broaden
Democrats’ appeal and move past the more controversial policies that
alienated would-be voters in recent elections.Indeed, Wednesday’s debate
was about much more than who would lead America’s largest city for the
next four years.Giddy Republicans viewed Mamdani’s success as a
political gift that would help shape elections across New Jersey and
Virginia this fall and into next year’s midterms. And while such
predictions are premature, national conservative media focused on the
New York election with fresh zeal, suggesting that Mamdani’s emerging
profile as a prominent Democratic leader will surely grow.Trump took aim
at Mamdani on social media, calling him “a 100% Communist
Lunatic.”“We’ve had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little
ridiculous,” the president wrote. “Yes, this is a big moment in the
History of our Country.”Some Democrats think so, too.Lawrence Summers,
the Treasury Secretary under former Democratic president Barack Obama,
aired dire concerns on social media.“I am profoundly alarmed about the
future of the [Democratic Party] and the country” because of the New
York City results, Summers wrote.Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who had
endorsed Mamdani, scoffed at such Democratic critics and instead called
for them to follow Mamdani’s lead.“In many ways, Mamdani’s campaign
really shows the direction in which the Democratic Party should be
moving. And that is not to worry about what billionaires want, but to
worry about what working-class people want,” Sanders told The Associated
Press. The Vermont senator warned Republicans against premature
celebration.“People like Mamdani are their worst nightmares,” Sanders
said of the GOP. “It’s one thing for the Democrats to be strongly
against Donald Trump. It is another thing to give working class people
something to vote for — a positive agenda.”Assuming Mamdani ultimately
is the Democratic nominee, he would move to a November election against
embattled Mayor Eric Adams, who is running as an independent, Republican
candidate Curtis Sliwa and maybe even Cuomo again, should he also
choose to run as an independent.A member of the New York state
Legislature since 2021, Mamdani won over Democratic primary voters with
an optimistic message centered on the cost-of-living backed by a
sprawling grassroots campaign that brought out thousands of volunteers
across the city’s five boroughs. Initial precinct data shows that he did
well in the city’s wealthier enclaves while Cuomo struggled in all but
majority Black and orthodox Jewish neighborhoods, along with the more
conservative Staten Island.Mamdani’s rise was aided by Cuomo’s baggage.
The 67-year-old Democrat was trying to mount a political comeback from a
sexual harassment scandal that forced him to resign the governorship in
2021.Mamdani has had to sidestep a field of landmines of his own
making, centered on his policies and political rhetoric. He called the
New York Police Department “racist, anti-queer and a major threat to
public safety” in a 2020 social media post. As a mayoral candidate, he
softened his stance and said that the police served a vital role. Still,
he pushed for the creation of a new public safety department that would
rely more on mental health care services and outreach workers. On
Israel’s war in Gaza, he used the term “genocide” to describe Israel’s
actions in the conflict. In the primary’s closing stretch, Mamdani also
defended the phrase “globalize the intifada,” which he described as “a
desperate desire for equality and equal rights in standing up for
Palestinian human rights.”He also faced criticism over his identity as a
democratic socialist, a label he refused to back away from.Mamdani’s
agenda includes free city bus service, free child care, government-run
grocery stores, a rent freeze for people living in rent-regulated
apartments and new affordable housing — all paid for by raising taxes on
the rich.Matt Bennett, co-founder of the centrist Democratic group
Third Way, warned that Mamdani’s policies are a political problem for
the Democratic Party.“The fact that Mamdani is young, charismatic, a
great communicator — all of those things are to be emulated,” Bennett
said. “His ideas are bad. … And his affiliation with the [Democratic
Socialists of America] is very dangerous. It’s already being weaponized
by the Republicans.”Mamdani’s age and ethnic background also earned
praise from allies across the country. He would be the youngest New York
City mayor in more than a century and its first Muslim and Indian
American mayor if elected. After keeping quiet on Mamdani throughout his
primary campaign, three of New York’s top Democrats, Governor Kathy
Hochul, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Democratic
leader Chuck Schumer, praised the progressive upstart but stopped short
of endorsing him after his victory seemed assured. The Democratic
leaders, largely considered moderates, applauded his focus on
affordability and said they had spoken with him, although none
explicitly said they would support him in the November general
election.Mamdani’s Democratic critics feared that he would make their
task this fall and in next year’s midterm elections, which will decide
the balance of power in Congress, even more difficult. The group,
Republicans Against Trumpism, a key Democratic ally in the 2024
election, predicted that Republicans would make Mamdani “the face of the
Democratic Party, hurting moderates in swing districts and Democrats’
chances of taking back the House.”In a Wednesday radio interview with
WNYC, Mamdani acknowledged that his contest had become part of the
national debate.“It has been tempting I think for some to claim as if
the party has gone too left,” he said. “When in fact what has occurred
for far too long is the abandonment of the same working-class voters who
then abandoned this party.”
Witkoff: Countries not previously
contemplated will soon join Abraham Accords-US special envoy teases
‘some pretty big announcements’ in pact that could be ‘stabilizer’ for
Middle East; warns uranium enrichment still ‘red line’ for Iran-By Jacob
Magid-and ToI Staff Today, 11:48 am-JUN 26,25
US special envoy
to the Middle East Steve Witkoff reiterated Wednesday his belief that
additional countries will join the Abraham Accords, which normalized
ties between Israel and several Muslim nations.Witkoff also said he
hopes that there will be a comprehensive peace agreement with Iran, in
the wake of the 12-day war with Israel that ended on Tuesday with
US-brokered ceasefire that the envoy played a key role in achieving.“We
think we will have some pretty big announcements on countries that are
coming into the Abraham Accords,” he told CNBC in an interview. “One of
the president’s key objectives is that the Abraham Accords be expanded
and more countries come into it, and we are working on that.”Signed at
the White House on September 15, 2020, under the first Trump
administration, the Abraham Accords normalized ties between Israel and
the United Arab Emirates, along with Bahrain. Morocco later also joined
the accords.“We are hoping for normalization across an array of
countries, maybe that people would never have contemplated coming in
before,” he said. “We’re excited for that prospect. That would also be a
stabilizer in the Middle East.”Both Witkoff and US President Donald
Trump have repeatedly expressed their interest and expectation that
other countries will join the accords.Witkoff made a similar prediction
at an Israel Independence Day event last month.“We think [we] will have
some, or a lot of announcements, very, very shortly, which we hope will
yield great progress by next year,” he said at the time.Just over a week
after that, US President Donald Trump declared it was his “dream” for
Saudi Arabia to join the Abraham Accords.“It’s my fervent hope, wish and
even my dream that Saudi Arabia… will soon be joining the Abraham
Accords,” Trump said in a foreign policy speech at an investment summit
in Riyadh on the first day of a Middle East visit that also included
stops in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. The next day, he met with
Syria’s President Ahmed al-Sharaa and urged him to join the
accords.Qatar has already been mediating talks between Israel and Syria
on the possibility of the new regime joining the accords, Hebrew media
reported at the time. Sharaa himself has said that Abu Dhabi was acting
as an intermediary between Israel and Syria, which have no official
relations.‘Comprehensive peace’ with Iran-Witkoff also addressed the
prospects of a nuclear agreement with Iran in the wake of the war with
Israel.Nuclear enrichment and weaponization by Iran are red lines for
the United States, Witkoff told CNBC, adding that he is “hopeful for a
comprehensive peace agreement” with Tehran.“We were hopeful when we
first started negotiations, it didn’t quite work out that way, but today
we are hopeful,” he said of talks between the US and Iran over the
latter’s nuclear research program. “The signs are there.”The US, he
said, is having “conversations” and there are “multiple interlocutors
who are reaching out to us.”“I think they’re ready, that’s my strong
sense,” Witkoff said of the Iranians.Iranian uranium enrichment is, he
stressed, “the red line, and beyond enrichment, weaponization is the red
line.”“We can’t have weaponization,” Witkoff continued. “That will
destabilize the entire region. Everyone will then need a bomb and we
just can’t have that.”He also rejected a report by the US Defense
Intelligence Agency that found the Israeli and US bombings of Iranian
nuclear sites only set back the development program by months.“All the
different sources by which you might get to a weapon have been
eradicated,” he said.“The conversation now with Iran is going to be how
do we rebuild a better civil nuclear program for you that is
non-enrichable,” Witkoff added, with “robust observation” to ensure
there is no enrichment.“The Iranians accept that, and we’ve talked about
it,” he said.Witkoff repeatedly referred to a “peace agreement” rather
than a pact that only deals with Iran’s nuclear program.A peace
agreement with Iran will bring a “renaissance” for the region, he
predicted, and could also have influence beyond the region in other
conflicts — such as between Russia and Ukraine — inspiring people to end
fighting.Witkoff’s remarks matched those he gave to Fox News in a
Wednesday interview when he also spoke of the US seeking a peace deal
with Iran.Trump said the same day that US and Iranian negotiators will
meet for talks next week while noting that there was no need to focus on
the nuclear program, as it had been destroyed. The US and Iran had
engaged in several rounds of negotiations to reach an agreement on
Tehran’s nuclear program, but the talks had stalled before Israel
launched airstrikes on June 13, targeting Iran’s top military leaders,
nuclear scientists, uranium enrichment sites and ballistic missile
program.Israel said the campaign was necessary to prevent the Islamic
Republic from realizing its declared plan to destroy the Jewish state.
On June 22, the US struck key Iranian nuclear facilities at Natanz,
Fordo and Isfahan.Iran has consistently denied seeking to acquire
nuclear weapons. However, it has enriched uranium to levels that have no
peaceful application, has obstructed international inspectors from
checking its nuclear facilities, and expanded its ballistic missile
capabilities. Israel said Tehran had recently taken steps toward
weaponization.Iran retaliated for Israel’s attacks by launching some 550
ballistic missiles and 1,000 drones at Israel. Iran’s missile attacks
killed 28 people and wounded thousands in Israel, according to health
officials and hospitals. Some of the missiles hit apartment buildings, a
university and a hospital, causing heavy damage.
Judge halts
major Dimona housing plan over absence of environmental impact
study-Citing ‘significant flaws,’ Beersheba Administrative Court sends
plans for expansion of Negev desert city back to planning committee for
further work By Sue Surkes-Today, 9:38 am-JUN 26,25
Sending a
strong message to planners and the Israel Land Authority, a court nixed a
program for a major housing estate in southern Israel because the site
is located in an area of high environmental sensitivity, yet the plans
were approved without any serious attempt to assess the environmental
impact. In a decision published Tuesday, Judge Yael Raz-Levy of the
Administrative Court in Beersheba, berated the Israel Lands Authority,
the Southern District Planning Committee, and others for “significant
flaws” in the plan’s approval, ordering a list of respondents to pay the
petitioner, the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel, costs
of NIS 15,000 ($4,400) apiece. At issue is a new neighborhood called
Dimona East, set to combine residential, industrial and employment areas
with a new train station and transportation hub.Initiated by the Israel
Land Authority in cooperation with the Dimona Municipality, it would
include 8,000 new housing units on nearly 2,200 acres of open gravel
desert east of Dimona, in the Negev desert, most of it defined as of
high environmental sensitivity.Raz-Levy sent the plan back to the
Southern District Planning Committee so that an environmental impact
assessment and other related checks could be carried out.In her
decision, she wrote: “I have come to the conclusion that significant
flaws occurred in the approval of the plan and its publication,
including its approval without an environmental impact assessment, in
violation of the provisions of the assessment regulations and case law…
Not only that, the decisions were made in the absence of sufficient
reasoning and without a proper factual foundation.”In its petition, the
Society for the Protection of Nature (SPNI) claimed that the plan had
been approved without an environmental impact assessment and that the
environmental landscape document that was prepared did not include all
the information necessary for such a large plan. The SPNI said after
publication of the ruling that there was enough land to serve decades of
building needs within the city of Dimona and that there was no urgent
need to build what amounted to a new city on open space, seriously
impacting the environment.

France's Versailles unveils AI-powered talking statues.
Versailles,
France, June 24 (AFP) Jun 24, 2025-Visitors to France's famed Palace of
Versailles can now strike up a conversation with talking statues
instead of listening to a traditional audio guide, as part of a new
collaboration with artificial intelligence companies, the palace has
said.Versailles late Monday announced a partnership with US-based OpenAI
and French start-up Ask Mona to bring a modern AI touch to the iconic
17th-century palace.Curious visitors can delve into Versailles' rich
history by scanning a QR code next to one of some 20 garden statues --
triggering interactive conversations in French, English, or Spanish."The
Palace of Versailles is now testing artificial intelligence, whose
tremendous capabilities will greatly enrich the visitor experience,"
said the museum's president, Christophe Leribault. The heritage site
welcomes some eight million visitors annually, with OpenAI and Ask Mona
saying it was a golden opportunity to showcase their technology in a
world-famous location."Whether you're a heritage expert, a museum
curator, or a visitor setting foot in the gardens of the Palace of
Versailles for the first time, there's something for everyone," said
Julie Lavet, OpenAI's head of European partnerships. And Ask Mona's
president said this partnership is a chance to highlight AI's lesser
explored applications."Often, when we think of artificial intelligence,
we think of it in terms of productivity, but here, it's really
artificial intelligence that is a lever for curiosity," said Marion
