The mosque was 'built by the angels' in Adam's time, says Abbas-appointed cleric-Jerusalem mufti: Temple Mount never housed Jewish Temple-Sheikh Muhammad Ahmad Hussein says Al-Aqsa Mosque has been atop disputed holy site ‘since creation of the world’-By Ilan Ben Zion October 25, 2015, 8:06 pm 29-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

The grand mufti of Jerusalem, the Muslim cleric in charge of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, said Sunday that there has never been a Jewish temple atop the Temple Mount, and that the site has been home to a mosque “since the creation of the world.”Sheikh Muhammad Ahmad Hussein said in an Arabic interview with Israel’s Channel 2 that the site, considered the third holiest in Islam and the holiest to Jews, was a mosque “3,000 years ago, and 30,000 years ago” and has been “since the creation of the world.”“This is the Al-Aqsa Mosque that Adam, peace be upon him, or during his time, the angels built,” the mufti said of the 8th-century structure commissioned by Caliph Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan.Hussein has held the post of mufti since 2006; he was appointed by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. He has previously endorsed suicide bombings against Israelis. He vehemently denied that there has ever been a Jewish shrine atop the Temple Mount, despite rich archaeological and textual evidence to the contrary, including from Muslim sources. The 10th-century Muslim historian Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad Shams al-Din al-Muqaddasi wrote in his description of Syria and Palestine that “in Jerusalem is the oratory of David and his gate; here are the wonders of Solomon and his cities,” and that the foundations of the Al-Aqsa Mosque “were laid by David.”A guide to the Haram al-Sharif, as the Temple Mount is known in Arabic, published by the Muslim Waqf in 1924 also mentioned the presence of two Jewish temples atop the Jerusalem compound in antiquity. At least four inscriptions from Herod’s Temple, destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE, attest to the presence of a Jewish temple atop the 37-acre platform he had engineered over 2,000 years ago.One of Hussein’s predecessors as chief custodian of the Jerusalem holy site, Hajj Amin al-Husseini, made headlines recently after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu charged in a speech that the Palestinian Muslim leader inspired Adolf Hitler’s Final Solution of exterminating the Jews. Netanyahu took flak from Holocaust scholars, politicians, and even the German government, who pointed out that the extermination of Europe’s Jews was already in full swing when Husseini met Hitler in 1941, and that there was no concrete evidence to support that charge. The Jerusalem holy site has been the focus of recent violent clashes between Israeli security officers and Palestinian rioters, and ostensible plans by Israel to change its status, repeatedly denied by the government, have been a catalyst for a wave of Palestinian terror attacks on Israelis. While Jewish visitors are allowed to enter the site, Jewish worship is banned under arrangements instituted by Israel when it captured the area from Jordan in the 1967 war.Israel and Jordan agreed Saturday to placing CCTV cameras on the Temple Mount in a bid to calm tensions and monitor possible violations of the status quo, a move rejected by Palestinian leaders.

Palestinian leaders, Jewish activists reject cameras on Temple Mount-PA foreign minister, Hamas, and Jewish Temple Mount advocates all denounce proposed surveillance measures, each for their own reasons-By Elhanan Miller October 25, 2015, 1:24 pm 29-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

Less than 24 hours after US Secretary of State John Kerry lauded the idea of placing round-the-clock surveillance cameras on Temple Mount as a means of ensuring calm at the holy site, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki on Sunday called the idea “a trap.”Speaking to Palestinian radio on Sunday, Maliki warned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s assurances Saturday that Muslims would be allowed to pray on Temple Mount while non-Muslims would only be allowed to visit the site were not credible.Netanyahu, he said, had promised King Abdullah of Jordan and Kerry that Muslims would be granted unrestricted access to Temple Mount ahead of the month of Ramadan last June, only to restrict the age of men eligible to enter to above 40 or 50.“We are falling into the same trap once again,” Maliki told the radio station. “Netanyahu cannot be trusted.”“Who will monitor the screens of these cameras? Who will record the movements of those worshipers wishing to enter? How will these cameras be employed, and will the recordings later be used to arrest young men and worshipers under the pretext of incitement?” Maliki wondered. On Sunday, Netanyahu vowed once again to leave the status quo on the Temple Mount in place, with Muslim prayer and non-Muslim visits guaranteed. He said the cameras would help dispel accusations that Israel was breaking the status quo, and expressed hope it would help calm the region.“Israel will continue to enforce its longstanding policy: Muslims pray on the Temple Mount; non-Muslims visit the Temple Mount,” Netanyahu said in a televised message released Saturday. However, Maliki demanded that any arrangements for the Temple Mount be enshrined in a UN Security Council resolution, rather than only verbal commitments by the Israeli prime minister.According to Kerry, the “excellent suggestion” of placing 24-hour surveillance cameras on Temple Mount came from King Abdullah, and would provide “comprehensive visibility and transparency” that would serve as “a game changer in discouraging anybody from disturbing the sanctity of this holy site.”Ironically, it was Jordan that condemned Israel for placing surveillance cameras on Temple Mount in December 2013, demanding Israel remove them.“Jordan rejects Israel’s installation of surveillance cameras on December 8 to monitor Waqf officials and worshipers, particularly women,” Information Minister Mohammad Momani told state news agency Petra at the time.On Sunday, an unnamed Fatah official, speaking to Israel Radio, scoffed at the idea of cameras alone insuring calm, claiming that Israel must reinstate the situation which existed on Temple Mount prior to the year 2000, when Jordan’s Religious Endowments Ministry (Waqf) attendants exercised full discretion over who may or may not enter the compound.Today, Israeli police officers at each of the 10 gates of the Temple Mount examine the identity cards of those wishing to enter, and are allowed to ban the entry of Jews or Muslims based on security concerns.Meanwhile, as Jordan’s Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh welcomed Netanyahu’s Saturday statement as “a step in the right direction,” it was received with dismay both by Palestinian terror group Hamas and by Jewish Temple Mount activists,“This is a despicable attempt by Netanyahu, with American collusion, to entrench the Zionist control of Al-Aqsa Mosque by granting the occupation the right to authorize and prohibit Muslims to pray at Al-Aqsa Mosque,” read a Hamas statement issued on Saturday. Fawzi Barhoum, a spokesman for Hamas, said that Kerry’s statement was merely a “pathetic” attempt to “beautify the Zionist Judaizing project and rescue Netanyahu from the crisis he is in as a result of his racist, extremist policy.”Hamas, which overthrew the Palestinian Authority in the Gaza Strip in 2007 and is classified a terror organization by the US and European Union, has long encouraged Palestinians living in Jerusalem and the West Bank to initiate violent attacks against Jews and Israeli soldiers. The Coalition of Temple Organizations, an assembly of Jewish groups advocating for the right of Jews to pray on Temple Mount, issued an angry statement Sunday following Netanyahu’s announcement that Jews would not be allowed to pray at the site.“The Prime Minister is not allowed to prevent Jews from praying on Temple Mount,” the announcement read. “Disturbing Jews from praying on Temple Mount contradicts the ‘Jerusalem as capital of Israel’ law as the UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights.”The group interpreted Kerry’s announce ment of surveillance cameras as a capitulation to Jordanian demands, calling it “the handing over of elements of government sovereignty to a foreign power.”“Jordanian and Palestinian dictations of conditions to reduce the cruel terror attacks … are incomprehensible,” the statement read.

October 23, 2015-The Vatican demands control of a large section of the Old City of Jerusalem-Jimmy DeYoung

As the ongoing peace process between the Israelis and the Palestinians continues to falter, the Vatican has demanded control over the religious sites in the Old City of Jerusalem and the surrounding area warning the peace negotiators that they must tackle the issue of the status of these holy sites. The Vatican warned that there will be no peace if the question of the holy sites is not resolved and the sacred and unique character of these areas must be safeguarded and it can only be done with an internationally guaranteed agreement. The Vatican wants Israel to relinquish sovereignty over the Temple Mount, Judaism's most sacred site, and internationalize the city of Jerusalem, a plan that the Israelis reject outright. The demand coming from the Vatican in Rome for the city of Jerusalem to be made an international zone is a page out of Bible prophecy for the last days. Recent calls from the Vatican in Rome for control of the holy sites in Jerusalem has caused concern for the political leaders of Israel. In fact, the Israeli government and the Vatican are deadlocked in discussions over the status of the religious sites in Jerusalem. In question would be the Holy Sepulchre, the Garden of Gethsemane, and the Upper Room which the Vatican demands to have under their sovereign control. The Vatican wants all of the Old City of Jerusalem to be made into an international zone, including the Temple Mount. The Jews claim the Temple Mount as their most sacred piece of real estate and they vow to never allow the sovereignty to be relinquished to the control of any other that the Jewish State of Israel. This report is indeed a page out of Bible prophecy for the end of times. Daniel, the ancient Jewish prophet, reveals in Daniel chapters 9 and 11 how the Revived Roman Empire will come together out of a one world religious power base in Rome, Italy. This end times political power led by the one world dictator, the Antichrist, will take control of the Temple Mount and allow a temple to be built there. Jews are ready to rebuild that temple in Jerusalem right now. The Vatican's demand to control holy sites in Jerusalem is indeed setting the stage for Bible prophecy to be fulfilled.See more at: http://news.prophecytoday.com/#sthash.VcwkNX5P.dpuf

Full official record: What the mufti said to Hitler-The Arabs were Germany’s natural friends, Haj Amin al-Husseini told the Nazi leader in 1941, because they had the same enemies — namely the English, the Jews and the Communists-By Times of Israel staff October 21, 2015, 7:09 pm 147

The following is an official German record of the meeting between Adolf Hitler and the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini, on November 28, 1941, at the Reich Chancellory in Berlin. (Source: Documents on German Foreign Policy 1918-1945, Series D, Vol XIII, London, 1964.) GRAND MUFTI: The Grand Mufti began by thanking the Fuhrer for the great honor he had bestowed by receiving him. He wished to seize the opportunity to convey to the Fuhrer of the Greater German Reich, admired by the entire Arab world, his thanks of the sympathy which he had always shown for the Arab and especially the Palestinian cause, and to which he had given clear expression in his public speeches. The Arab countries were firmly convinced that Germany would win the war and that the Arab cause would then prosper. The Arabs were Germany’s natural friends because they had the same enemies as had Germany, namely the English, the Jews and the Communists. Therefore they were prepared to cooperate with Germany with all their hearts and stood ready to participate in the war, not only negatively by the commission of acts of sabotage and the instigation of revolutions, but also positively by the formation of an Arab Legion. The Arabs could be more useful to Germany as allies than might be apparent at first glance, both for geographical reasons and because of the suffering inflicted upon them by the English and the Jews. Furthermore, they had had close relations with all Muslim nations, of which they could make use in behalf of the common cause. The Arab Legion would be quite easy to raise. An appeal by the Mufti to the Arab countries and the prisoners of Arab, Algerian, Tunisian and Moroccan nationality in Germany would produce a great number of volunteers eager to fight. Of Germany’s victory the Arab world was firmly convinced, not only because the Reich possessed a large army, brave soldiers and military leaders of genius, but also because the Almighty could never award the victory to an unjust cause.‘The Arabs could be more useful to Germany as allies than might be apparent at first glance, both for geographical reasons and because of the suffering inflicted upon them by the English and the Jews’-In this struggle, the Arabs were striving for the independence and unity of Palestine, Syria and Iraq. They had the fullest confidence in the Fuhrer and looked to his hand for the balm on their wounds, which had been inflicted upon them by the enemies of Germany. The Mufti then mentioned the letter he had received from Germany, which stated that Germany was holding no Arab territories and understood and recognized the aspirations to independence and freedom of the Arabs, just as she supported the elimination of the Jewish national home.A public declaration in this sense would be very useful for its propagandistic effect on the Arab peoples at this moment. It would rouse the Arabs from their momentary lethargy and give them new courage. It would also ease the Mufti’s work of secretly organizing the Arabs against the moment when they could strike. At the same time, he could give the assurance that the Arabs would in strict discipline patiently wait for the right moment and only strike upon an order from Berlin. With regard to the events in Iraq, the Mufti observed that the Arabs in that country certainly had by no means been incited by Germany to attack England, but solely had acted in reaction to a direct English assault upon their honor. The Turks, he believed, would welcome the establishment of an Arab government in the neighboring territories because they would prefer weaker Arab to strong European governments in the neighboring countries and, being themselves a nations of 7 million, they had moreover nothing to fear from the 1,700,000 Arabs inhabiting Syria, Transjordan, Iraq and Palestine.France likewise would have no objections to the unification plan because it had conceded independence to Syria as early as 1936 and had given her approval to the unification of Iraq and Syria under King Faisal as early as 1933.In these circumstances he was renewing his request that the Fuhrer make a public declaration so that the Arabs would not lose hope, which is so powerful a force in the life of nations. With such hope in their hearts the Arabs, as he had said, were willing to wait. They were not pressing for immediate realization for their aspirations; they could easily wait half a year or a whole year. But if they were not inspired with such a hope by a declaration of this sort, it could be expected that the English would be the gainers from it.HITLER:-The Fuhrer replied that Germany’s fundamental attitude on these questions, as the Mufti himself had already stated, was clear. Germany stood for uncompromising war against the Jews. That naturally included active opposition to the Jewish national home in Palestine, which was nothing other than a center, in the form of a state, for the exercise of destructive influence by Jewish interests. Germany was also aware that the assertion that the Jews were carrying out the functions of economic pioneers in Palestine was a lie. The work there was done only by the Arabs, not by the Jews. Germany was resolved, step by step, to ask one European nation after the other to solve its Jewish problem, and at the proper time to direct a similar appeal to non-European nations as well.Germany was at the present time engaged in a life and death struggle with two citadels of Jewish power: Great Britain and Soviet Russia. Theoretically there was a difference between England’s capitalism and Soviet Russia’s communism; actually, however, the Jews in both countries were pursuing a common goal. This was the decisive struggle; on the political plane, it presented itself in the main as a conflict between Germany and England, but ideologically it was a battle between National Socialism and the Jews. It went without saying that Germany would furnish positive and practical aid to the Arabs involved in the same struggle, because platonic promises were useless in a war for survival or destruction in which the Jews were able to mobilize all of England’s power for their ends.‘Germany was resolved, step by step, to ask one European nation after the other to solve its Jewish problem, and at the proper time to direct a similar appeal to non-European nations as well’The aid to the Arabs would have to be material aid. Of how little help sympathies alone were in such a battle had been demonstrated plainly by the operation in Iraq, where circumstances had not permitted the rendering of really effective, practical aid. In spite of all the sympathies, German aid had not been sufficient and Iraq was overcome by the power of Britain, that is, the guardian of the Jews. The Mufti could not but be aware, however, that the outcome of the struggle going on at present would also decide the fate of the Arab world. The Fuhrer therefore had to think and speak coolly and deliberately, as a rational man and primarily as a soldier, as the leader of the German and allied armies. Everything of a nature to help in this titanic battle for the common cause, and thus also for the Arabs, would have to be done. Anything however, that might contribute to weakening the military situation must be put aside, no matter how unpopular this move might be.Germany was now engaged in very severe battles to force the gateway to the northern Caucasus region. The difficulties were mainly with regard to maintaining the supply, which was most difficult as a result of the destruction of railroads and highways as well as the oncoming winter. If at such a moment, the Fuhrer were to raise the problem of Syria in a declaration, those elements in France which were under de Gaulle’s influence would receive new strength. They would interpret the Fuhrer’s declaration as an intention to break up France’s colonial empire and appeal to their fellow countrymen that they should rather make common cause with the English to try to save what still could be saved. A German declaration regarding Syria would in France be understood to refer to the French colonies in general, and that would at the present time create new troubles in western Europe, which means that a portion of the German armed forces would be immobilized in the west and no longer be available for the campaign in the east. The Fuhrer then made the following statement to the Mufti, enjoining him to lock it in the uttermost depths of his heart: 1. He (the Fuhrer) would carry on the battle to the total destruction of the Judeo-Communist empire in Europe. 2. At some moment which was impossible to set exactly today but which in any event was not distant, the German armies would in the course of this struggle reach the southern exit from Caucasia. 3. As soon as this had happened, the Fuhrer would on his own give the Arab world the assurance that its hour of liberation had arrived. Germany’s objective would then be solely the destruction of the Jewish element residing in the Arab sphere under the protection of British power. In that hour the Mufti would be the most authoritative spokesman for the Arab world. It would then be his task to set off the Arab operations, which he had secretly prepared. When that time had come, Germany could also be indifferent to French reaction to such a declaration.Once Germany had forced open the road to Iran and Iraq through Rostov; it would be also the beginning of the end of the British World Empire. He (the Fuhrer) hoped that the coming year would make it possible for Germany to thrust open the Caucasian gate to the Middle East. For the good of their common cause, it would be better if the Arab proclamation were put off for a few more months than if Germany were to create difficulties for herself without being able thereby to help the Arabs. He (the Fuhrer) fully appreciated the eagerness of the Arabs for a public declaration of the sort requested by the Grand Mufti. But he would beg him to consider that he (the Fuhrer) himself was the Chief of State of the German Reich for five long years during which he was unable to make to his own homeland the announce ment of its liberation. He had to wait with that until the announcement could be made on the basis of a situation brought about by the force of arms that the Anschluss had been carried out.The moment that Germany’s tank divisions and air squadrons had made their appearance south of the Caucasus, the public appeal requested by the Grand Mufti could go out to the Arab world.GRAND MUFTI:The Grand Mufti replied that it was his view that everything would come to pass just as the Fuhrer had indicated. He was fully reassured and satisfied by the words which he had heard form the Chief of the German State. He asked, however, whether it would not be possible, secretly at least, to enter into an agreement with Germany of the kind he had just outlined for the Fuhrer.HITLER:The Fuhrer replied that he had just now given the Grand Mufti precisely that confidential declaration.GRAND MUFTI:The Grand Mufti thanked him for it and stated in conclusion that he was taking his leave from the Fuhrer in full confidence and with reiterated thanks for the interest shown in the Arab cause.

Palestinian stabs Israeli at West Bank’s Ariel Junction-Victim moderately injured in attack at bus stop; police, IDF apprehends suspect in adjacent Palestinian village-By Times of Israel staff October 25, 2015, 6:45 pm

A Palestinian man stabbed an Israeli Sunday afternoon at a bus stop on the side of a West Bank highway near the settlement of Ariel. The incident took place on Route 5, just east of Ariel, in the northern West Bank. The 25-year-old victim was moderately hurt with stab wounds to his upper body. He was taken to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikvah for treatment. The suspect fled the scene. According to Channel 2, the suspect approached the bus stop wearing a Jewish skullcap and attacked the victim. After a manhunt by police and the IDF, Israeli soldiers apprehended a suspect in the nearby village of Marda. The suspect initially fled the scene, prompting IDF troops to block the entrances to several nearby Palestinian villages in order to help search for the perpetrator of the attack. The man was identified by the Shin Bet as Tamer Khadir, 26, of the village of Beita, near Nablus. He has no prior record, the internal security agency said in a statement. He was taken in for questioning.Sunday’s attack took place as dozens of Palestinian workers arrived at the junction, returning to the West Bank after working in Israeli cities during the day.Earlier on Sunday, Israeli security forces thwarted an attempted stabbing at a checkpoint in Hebron, near the Tomb of the Patriarchs. A Palestinian woman who pulled out a knife at the site was shot dead. No Israelis were reported injured in that incident.

Beersheba bus station shooter was in touch with Hamas, police charge-Officials say Muhanad Alukabi planned attack well in advance, had pictures of Hamas operatives on phone-By Times of Israel staff October 25, 2015, 2:29 pm 4

The man who carried out a deadly shooting terror attack at the Beersheba central bus station a week ago was in contact with Palestinian terror group Hamas for an extended period, and prepared for his attack ahead of time, police said Sunday. The terrorist, Muhanad Alukabi, 21, from an unrecognized Bedouin village in the Negev, had photos of Hamas operatives, guns and other weapons saved on his phone, police said in a statement. On October 18, Alukabi opened fire in the bus station of the southern city, killing a soldier, stealing his gun and wounding 11 others. He was killed in a shootout with police after holing up in a bathroom. The attack was seen as out of the ordinary both because it was carried out with a gun and because the attacker had Israeli citizenship. Most attacks during the current round of violence have been carried out by so-called “lone wolf” attackers not acting as part of a larger terror group. But the Alukabi link shows Hamas may have been linked to the shooting.Southern District Police Commander Yoram Halevi said after a gag order on the investigation was lifted that one could say “without a doubt and in contradiction of the rumors and conspiracy theories on social networks that Muhanad Alukabi is not innocent.”“It has been proven unequivocally that he was the terrorist who murdered IDF soldier Omri Levy, may his memory be blessed, and was involved in the shooting and harming of police officers who courageously disarmed the terrorist and prevented the continuation of his murderous journey,” Halevy said.He said that evidence showed that Alukabi “planned his action carefully over a long period of time.”Police also released security camera footage showing Alukabi following Levy for an extended period before killing him, and the police shootout with him.According to the Shin Bet security service, Alukabi’s mother was originally from the Gaza Strip and was granted citizenship because she was married to an Israeli Arab. The attacker had no previous criminal record.Police said Sunday that Alukabi’s brother had failed to prevent a crime when he knew that Alukabi purchased a gun. The police alleged that the brother was aware of the Alukabi’s process of radicalizing. The brother, police claimed, was obligated to report Alukabi’s activities to the police.Bedouin leaders condemned the attack less than 24 hours after it took place.“Following [Sunday’s] terrorist attack at the Beersheba central bus station in which two innocent people lost their lives, we utterly and unreservedly condemn this despicable act and reject violence of any sort,” Hura Mayor Mohammed Alnabari said in a statement as community leaders gathered for an urgent meeting.During the attack, an Eritrean man was also accidentally shot by responding forces who mistook him for a terrorist. A crowd then beat Haftom Zarhum, who died after being taken to a hospital. Four people have been arrested in connection with the beating.

Soldiers fend off attempted stabbing in Hebron-Attacker, reportedly a Palestinian woman, shot and killed by troops during attack near city’s Tomb of the Patriarchs-By Judah Ari Gross October 25, 2015, 2:50 pm 3-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

IDF soldiers foiled a stabbing attempt by a Palestinian woman at the Tzalbanit checkpoint near the Tomb of the Patriarchs holy site in Hebron. The attacker was shot and killed in the attack, according to reports. According to the army, the woman approached the Hebron checkpoint shortly after 1 p.m. When soldiers asked her to identify herself, she pulled out a knife and walked closer to them while yelling.Earlier Sunday, one person was injured in a stabbing attack in the southern West Bank, and troops are searching for the attacker. The attack occurred near the settlement of Metzad, east of the Etzion settlement bloc south of Jerusalem. The victim, a middle-aged man, sustained moderate injuries to his upper body and was taken to Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem, according to reports. He was stabbed after exiting his car when it was pelted with stones, the IDF said.Troops launched a search for the stabber, who fled the scene. Some reports suggested there may have been more than one attacker, and they were dressed as ultra-Orthodox Jews.Israel has suffered a spate of stabbing, rock-throwing and car-ramming attacks over the past several weeks, as well as daily clashes between Palestinians and IDF troops in the West Bank.A number of attacks last week occurred after victims left a car which had been pelted by stones.Earlier Sunday morning, a Palestinian man was arrested near the Tapuah Junction in the West Bank after a knife was found in his belongings. The man was planning to carry out a terror attack, officials said.Since the latest round of fighting began, 10 Israelis have been killed and dozens more injured in terror attacks. Over 40 Palestinians have been killed, at least half of them assailants according to Israel, and over 100 were injured.

Storm leaves hundreds of thousands of Israelis in the dark-Power in many areas to only be restored by Monday morning; one killed as heavy winds, rains lash Mediterranean coast-By Times of Israel staff October 25, 2015, 10:37 pm

Inclement weather along Israel’s Mediterranean coast on Sunday left hundreds of thousands in central Israel without electricity, with the Israel Electric Corporation saying power may only be restored come Monday morning.Repairs to downed lines and severed connections were expected to take hours, the IEC said, with residents of Tel Aviv and its suburbs — as well as cities as far afield as Hadera and Beersheba — left without power. The management of the Israel Electric Corporation appealed to the National Labor Court Sunday evening, urging it to order the IEC employees to work on an emergency footing to get power running again after the corporation’s union refused to do so. Management called on the court to bar the union from “managing conflicts on the backs of tens of thousands of customers.”The stormy weather killed one person, briefly shuttered an airport, brought highways to a standstill, and caused other havoc and damage in multiple cities Sunday. The Tel Aviv area was soaked with nearly an inch of rain by 4 p.m., and places farther south, such as Mitzpe Ramon and Kibbutz Yotvata, received just as much. Jerusalem and towns in the hilly hinter land received a mere sprinkling, just a quarter of an inch in the capital. The casualty of the storm, a 20-year- old construction worker, was killed in Pardes Hanna when a wall in a construction site was toppled by strong winds that buffeted the area, along with heavy rains. A 20-year-old woman in Hadera was seriously injured when a tree fell on the bus in which she was traveling. The small Sde Dov Airport in northern Tel Aviv was closed for a few hours due to dangerous weather conditions, but had been reopened by evening. Israel’s main international airport, Ben Gurion Airport, saw no disruptions in service, officials said.Strong winds of up to 90 kilometers per hour (55 miles per hour) were felt in Tel Aviv and in the Sharon region to the north of the metropolis, according to Israel’s weather service. The strongest gusts were felt in the seaside town of Herzliya, where residents were briefly pelted with hail amid the downpour. Rains were so heavy in the southern coastal cities of Ashdod and Ashkelon that it made driving difficult.A construction crane toppled over on Tel Aviv’s Menachem Begin Boulevard, while several streets in Tel Aviv and the nearby suburb of Givatayim were blocked due to fallen trees. In Haifa, the nation’s second-largest seaport ceased operations. Work at the port was set to be renewed by evening. Most communities in the Hula Valley, in the north, suffered a blackout after a major power line near Kibbutz Sde Eliezer broke down. IEC employees were at the scene trying to restore power.A fallen tree on the Ayalon Highway, which cuts through central Tel Aviv, stopped traffic at the Kibbutz Galuyot Junction. The exit to Kibbutz Galuyot was closed at 9:40 a.m. for at least an hour. One man was wounded on Safed Street in Netanya when an electricity pole fell onto a road. The pole burst into flames and sparked a fire adjacent to a school. The weather also caused minor blackouts in several wind-swept towns and cities, including Netanya, Ramat Hasharon, Petah Tikva and Givat Shmuel, leading to disruptions in train services in those places. Dozens of people were trapped in elevators in city centers due to the blackouts, and emergency crews worked to extract them.By noon, the stormy weather had moved into the Jerusalem area.Temperatures were never theless unseasonably warm, ranging from 17°-28° Celsius (63°-82° Fahrenheit) in Jerusalem, 21°-29°C (70°-84°F) in Tel Aviv and 20°-29°C (68°-84°F) in Haifa. However, temperatures were expected to drop dramatically Monday, with occasional rains and concern over flooding in desert valleys in the east and south. The rains are expected to continue throughout the week, according to forecasters.
