WARN THE PEOPLE-WW3
EZEKIEL 33:1-6
1 Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2
Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them,
When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man
of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:
3 If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;
4
Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not
warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon
his own head.
5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not
warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall
deliver his soul.
6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow
not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and
take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but
his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.

And at the time of the end shall the king of the south( EGYPT) push at

HORDES OF EZEK 38+39) shall come against him like a whirlwind, with
chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter

41 He shall
enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be
overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab,
and the chief of the children of Ammon.(JORDAN)
42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
43
But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and

10
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the
realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor
planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.
EZEKIEL 31:10-17
10
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up thyself
in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his
heart is lifted up in his height;
11 I have therefore delivered him
into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal
with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness.
12 And
strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left
him: upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen,
and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the
people of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him.
13 Upon his ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches:
14To
the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for
their height, neither shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither
their trees stand up in their height, all that drink water: for they
are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the
midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.(HELL).
15Thus
saith the Lord GOD; In the day when he went down to the grave I caused a
mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the floods
thereof, and the great waters were stayed: and I caused Lebanon to mourn
for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him.
16 I made
the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to
hell with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the
choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in
the nether parts of the earth.
17They also went down into hell with
him unto [them that be] slain with the sword; and [they that were] his
arm, [that] dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the heathen.
18To
whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of
Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the
nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the
uncircumcised with [them that be] slain by the sword. This [is] Pharaoh
and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD.
EZEKIEL 32:17-32
17
It came to pass also in the twelfth year, in the fifteenth [day] of the
month, [that] the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
18 Son of
man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, [even] her,
and the daughters of the famous nations, unto the nether parts of the
earth, with them that go down into the pit.
19 Whom dost thou pass in beauty? go down, and be thou laid with the uncircumcised.
20
They shall fall in the midst of [them that are] slain by the sword: she
is delivered to the sword: draw her and all her multitudes.
21 The
strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell with
them that help him: they are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain
by the sword.
22 Asshur [is] there and all her company: his graves [are] about him: all of them slain, fallen by the sword:
23
Whose graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is round
about her grave: all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which caused
terror in the land of the living.
24 There [is] Elam (IRAN) and all
her multitude round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the
sword, which are gone down uncircumcised into the nether parts of the
earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet have
they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit.
25 They
have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her
graves [are] round about him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the
sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet
have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: he is put
in the midst of [them that be] slain.
26 There [is] Meshech,
Tubal,(RUSSIA) (GERMANY, TURKEY) and all her multitude: her graves [are]
round about him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though
they caused their terror in the land of the living.
27And they shall
not lie with the mighty [that are] fallen of the uncircumcised, which
are gone down to hell with their weapons of war: and they have laid
their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be upon their
bones, though [they were] the terror of the mighty in the land of the
living.
28 Yea, thou shalt be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised, and shalt lie with [them that are] slain with the sword.
29
There [is] Edom,(JORDAN) her kings, and all her princes, which with
their might are laid by [them that were] slain by the sword: they shall
lie with the uncircumcised, and with them that go down to the pit.
30
There [be] the princes of the north, all of them, and all the
Zidonians, which are gone down with the slain; with their terror they
are ashamed of their might; and they lie uncircumcised with [them that
be] slain by the sword, and bear their shame with them that go down to
the pit.
31 Pharaoh shall see them, and shall be comforted over all
his multitude, [even] Pharaoh and all his army slain by the sword, saith
the Lord GOD.
32 For I have caused my terror in the land of the
living: and he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised with
[them that are] slain with the sword, [even] Pharaoh and all his
multitude, saith the Lord GOD.

7 Be thou prepared, and

thee, and be thou a guard unto them.
8 After many days thou shalt be
visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is
brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against
the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is
brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of
them.
9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a
cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with
thee.(RUSSIA-EGYPT AND MUSLIMS)
10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall
also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy
mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
11 And thou shalt
say,(RUSSIA-ARAB-MUSLIMS) I will go up to the land of unwalled

all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,

15 And
thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many
people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a
mighty army:
16 And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel,
as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I
will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I
shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog

And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every

come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do
sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel,
that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.(OF THE RUSSIAN/ARAB/MUSLIM
ARMIES)
18 Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood
of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of
bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.
19 And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.
20 Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD.
21
And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall
see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon
them.
22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.

angel raise the sickle and come down on all the Middle East countries. I
saw Iran, Persia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, all of Georgia - Iraq, Syria,
Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, all of Asia Minor - full of blood. I saw blood
all over these countries. And I saw fire; Nuclear weapons used in many
of those countries. Smoke rising from everywhere. Sudden destruction –
men destroying one another. I heard these words:"Israel, Oh Israel, the
great judgment has come." The angel said, "The chosen, the church, the
remnant, shall be purified. The Spirit of God shall prepare the children
of God."I saw fires rising to heaven. The angel said: "This is the final
judgment. My church shall be purified, protected and ready for the
final day. Men will die from thirst. Water shall be scarce all over the
Middle East. Rivers shall dry up, and men will fight for water in those
countries."The angel showed me that the United Nations shall be broken
in pieces because of the crisis in the Middle East. There shall be no
more United Nations. The angel with the sickle shall reap the harvest.

AND THE ARROW WERE ALL DESTROYING IRANIAN MISSLES AT THE SAME TIME. THIS
WAS ANOTHER INCREDIBLE MIRACLE.
How does Iron Dome work?
Iron
Dome has become the most combat-tested air defence system in the world,
because of the number of missiles in recent years fired into Israel by
Hamas and other militant groups from Gaza, and by Hezbollah from
Lebanon. There are Iron Dome batteries sited across Israel. Every battery
comprises three or four launchers, each containing 20 interceptor
missiles.Infographic showing how the Iron Dome missile defence system
works-Iron Dome detects and tracks incoming rockets with radar and
calculates which ones are likely to fall on populated areas. It then
fires missiles at these rockets, while the others are left to fall on
open ground. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has previously claimed that
Iron Dome destroys 90% of the rockets it targets. Its "Tamir" missiles
are thought to cost about $50,000 each. The system was developed after
the 2006 "Summer War" between Israel and Hezbollah. The Lebanon-based
armed group fired nearly 4,000 rockets into Israel, causing huge damage
and killing dozens of citizens.Designed by Israeli firms Rafael Advanced
Defense Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries - with some US support -
Iron Dome was deployed in 2011.It was first used in combat that year,
intercepting a rocket fired from Gaza.Since October 2023, Iron Dome
missiles have intercepted tens of thousands of rockets fired by Hamas
and other militant groups from Gaza.
How does David's Sling work?
David's
Sling, called "Magic Wand" in Hebrew, can intercept missiles up to
300km away.Jointly developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems of
Israel and Raytheon of the US, it started operating in 2017.A David's
Sling launcher pictured during a military exercise-Its "Stunner"
missiles are designed to shoot down short-range, mid-range and
long-range ballistic missiles at low altitudes. Like Iron Dome, David's
Sling only targets missiles which threaten built-up areas. Both David's
Sling and Iron Dome are designed also to intercept aircraft, drones and
cruise missiles. Each David's Sling missile costs about $1m.The system
was used in September 2024 to shoot down a ballistic missile fired by
Hezbollah from Lebanon.The IDF said this was an Iranian-made Qadr-1 - a
medium-range ballistic missile that can carry a warhead of between 700kg
and 1,000kg.Hezbollah said the missile was aimed at the headquarters of
Mossad in Tel Aviv, but the IDF said it was heading towards a
residential area.David's Sling was also used in May 2023 when
Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a militant group in Gaza, launched over 1,100
missiles at Israel. Israel says it shot down 96% of the rockets which
posed a threat.
How do Arrow 2 and Arrow 3 work?
Arrow 2 is
designed to destroy short-range and medium-range ballistic missiles
while they are flying through the upper atmosphere, about 50km above the
Earth.Work started on the system after the First Gulf War in 1991, when
Iraq fired dozens of Soviet-made Scud missiles into Israel. It entered
service in 2000.It can detect missiles from 500km away. It intercepts
them at comparatively short range - at distances of up to 100km from the
launch site. Its missiles travel at nine times the speed of sound, and
it can fire at up to 14 targets at once.Arrow 2 was reportedly used in
combat for the first time in 2017, to shoot down a Syrian surface-to-air
missile. The Arrow 2 system is designed to intercept ballistic missiles
in Earth's upper atmosphereArrow 3 was first deployed in 2017, and is
designed to intercept long-range ballistic missiles as they travel at
the top of their arc, outside the Earth's atmosphere. It has a range of
2,400km.It was first used in combat in 2023, to intercept a ballistic
missile which the Houthi rebels in Yemen fired at the coastal city of
Eilat, in southern Israel. The system was developed by state-owned Israel
Aerospace Industries, with help from the US company Boeing.

commander threatens strikes on Israeli energy sites-Khamenei says Iran
‘won’t back down, Israel won’t last long’; hails Hamas Oct. 7
massacre-Supreme leader, gun in hand at sermon, claims Israel will
‘never defeat Hamas and Hezbollah’ after terror chiefs killed, calls
missile attack ‘minimum punishment for Zionist crimes’By Agencies and
ToI Staff Today, 5:27 pm-OCT 4,24
Iranian Supreme Leader
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei delivered a rare Friday sermon defending this
week’s missile attack on Israel that deepened fears of a regional war,
while praising the “logical and legal” Hamas-led October 7 invasion and
massacre in southern Israel that sparked the war in Gaza and fueled
violence throughout the Middle East.Speaking in front of tens of
thousands at a mosque in the capital Tehran, Khamenei said Iran-backed
armed groups in the Middle East “will not back down” even after Israel
recently killed a spate of terrorist leaders. In his first public Friday
sermon in nearly five years, Khamenei spoke in Arabic to discuss
fighting against Israel by the Iran-aligned “axis of resistance,”
including Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Palestinian terror group Hamas.“The
resistance in the region will not back down with these martyrdoms, and
will win,” Khamenei told the crowd at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla
mosque, where supporters carried portraits of slain Hezbollah and Hamas
leaders.“Israel will never defeat Hamas and Hezbollah,” he declared. He
hailed the terror groups’ “fierce defense” against Israeli forces over
the past year, referring to Hamas’s brutal October 7 onslaught against
Israel and the subsequent solidarity attacks by Hezbollah, Yemen’s
Houthi rebels and militia groups in Iraq and Syria. The Tehran-backed
terrorists were engaged in “logical and legitimate” action against
Israel, Khamenei claimed, and “no one has the right to criticize
them.”Khamenei was pictured holding a rifle and spoke with it by his
side.He claimed Tuesday’s missile barrage, which sent most of Isrsael’s
populace into bomb shelters and killed a Palestinian man in the West
Bank, was based on international law, Iranian law and Islamic beliefs. He
urged nations from “Afghanistan to Yemen and from Iran to Gaza and
Yemen” to be ready to take action against the enemy, and praised those
who had died doing so.The speech was preceded by a commemoration
ceremony for Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah who was killed in an
Israeli strike on southern Beirut on September 27 alongside Iran’s
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Abbas Nilforoushan.‘Minimum
punishment’Khamenei’s sermon took place days before the first
anniversary of the October 7 terror atrocities, and after Iran this week
had fired barrages of some 200 missiles at Israel in what it said was
retaliation for the killings of Nasrallah, Nilforoushan as well as Hamas
leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in July.“What our armed forces did was
the minimum punishment for the crimes of the usurping Zionist regime,”
said Khamenei of the missile fire, Iran’s second-ever direct attack on
US-backed Israel. The Iranian leader charged that Israel was a “malicious
regime” which has “only kept itself standing by the injection of
American support.”It “will not last long,” he said.“The Palestinians
were right” to launch the unprecedented October 7 attack on Israel,
Khamenei stated, calling it “a logical and legal” action.Iran has hailed
but denied any involvement in the Hamas attack, which was the deadliest
on Jews since the Holocaust. Some 3,000 Hamas-led terrorists burst
through the border from Gaza and killed 1,200 people — most of them
civilians slaughtered in their homes and at a music festival, amid rapes
and other monstrous acts of brutality. The terrorists also abducted 251
people, 97 of whom are still held captive.Tehran cut ties with Israel
following the 1979 Islamic Revolution and has since made destruction of
Israel and the championing of the Palestinian cause a centerpiece of its
foreign policy.Khamenei last led Friday prayers in January 2020 after
Iran fired missiles at a US army base in Iraq, in response to a strike
that killed the IRGC Al-Quds force commander Qassem Soleimani.Hamas,
Hezbollah and other armed groups in the Middle East, along with Syria’s
Assad regime, are part of the Iran-aligned “axis of resistance” to
Israel and its ally the United States. In April, Tehran launched missiles
and drones against Israel in retaliation for a deadly Israeli strike
that killed a Revolutionary Guards commander at the Iranian consulate in
Damascus. In both attacks, nearly all missiles were intercepted by
Israel or its allies. Also Friday, the semi-official Iranian news agency
SNN quoted Revolutionary Guards deputy commander Ali Fadavi as saying
that if Israel attacks, following this week’s missile barrage, Tehran
would target Israeli energy and gas installations.“If the occupiers make
such a mistake, we will target all their energy sources, installations
and all refineries and gas fields,” Fadavi said.Meanwhile, Iranian
Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi arrived in Beirut for a visit hours after
intensive Israeli airstrikes that reportedly targeted Nasrallah’s
presumed successor. Araqchi met with top Lebanese officials, including
caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and speaker of parliament Nabih
Berri – a Hezbollah ally.Iran’s most senior diplomat also said his
presence in Beirut “in these difficult circumstances” was the best
evidence that Iran stood by Lebanon and supported the Shi’ites.Araqchi
said Tehran supported efforts for a ceasefire in Lebanon on the
condition it would be backed by Hezbollah and simultaneous with a
ceasefire in Gaza, where the US and other mediators have been
unsuccessfully pushing for a hostage-truce agreement to end the fighting
between Israel and Hamas.
Army: Head of Hezbollah comms division
killed in Beirut strike-IDF says over 250 Hezbollah operatives killed
in southern Lebanon ground offensive-Military sources report signs of
‘exhaustion’ among terror group’s fighters; Gallant warns Israel has
‘more surprises in store’; over 180 rockets fired at north on Friday-By
Emanuel Fabian-Today, 9:19 pm-OCT 4,24
More than 250 Hezbollah
operatives have been killed during Israeli military operations in
southern Lebanon since troops began a ground offensive there earlier
this week, the Israel Defense Forces said Friday, as Defense Minister
Yoav Gallant warned Israel has “more surprises in store” and the
Lebanese terror group bombarded the north with rocket salvos. The Israeli
ground operations in southern Lebanon have been described by the IDF as
“limited, localized, and targeted raids,” with the goal of demolishing
Hezbollah’s infrastructure in the border area, especially in the
villages adjacent to Israel, to enable residents of the north to return
home.Military officials have said that the Israel Defense Forces intends
for the operations to end as quickly as possible, even within a few
weeks.Among the 250 Hezbollah fighters killed since the ground offensive
started late Monday are at least 21 field commanders, according to the
IDF, including five brigade-level commanders, 10 company commanders, and
six platoon commanders. The Israeli toll in the ground offensive against
Hezbollah in Lebanon stands at nine. The IDF’s 98th and 36th divisions
were operating in several Lebanese villages close to the Israeli border,
where the military said troops had located a large amount of weapons
and infrastructure that Hezbollah left behind.More than half a million
Lebanese civilians have fled southern Lebanon following IDF evacuation
warnings, according to military assessments, including residents of 37
towns and villages who were told Friday morning to immediately leave
flee the area and head north of the Awali River. The IDF has said it
would update the civilians when it is safe to return.Troops have mostly
come under anti-tank missile fire and mortar attacks amid the
operations, though there have also been several close-quarters
engagements. In one incident Thursday, IDF paratroopers killed some 15
Hezbollah operatives who were spotted in buildings and tunnel shafts in a
village in southern Lebanon. Only one soldier was wounded in the
engagement. The ground operations were launched as Israel continued to
carry out strikes on the terror group’s top commanders in the capital
Beirut, capabilities across the country, and weapon shipments from
Iran.In southern Lebanon, amid the ground operations, more than 2,000
Hezbollah sites have been struck from the air, the IDF added.Military
sources said the IDF has seen signs of “exhaustion” among Hezbollah’s
fighters in southern Lebanon, but did not offer further details on how
this was manifesting. The military attributed Hezbollah forces’ weariness
to the killing of many of the terror group’s commanders, including
numerous field officers.“Hezbollah is receiving very severe blows, one
after the other. We eliminated [Hezbollah chief Hassan] Nasrallah and we
have more surprises in store, some of which have already been carried
out and some of which will be carried out,” Gallant said Friday during a
visit to the 36th Division’s headquarters in northern Israel. The
division’s troops are operating in southern Lebanon.“[Hezbollah’s]
missile and rocket division suffered a very heavy blow. A significant
part was destroyed as a result of a high-quality and precise operation.
Command and control headquarters, communications, the entire leadership
of [the elite Radwan Force], and in fact the entire second and third
tiers of command below Nasrallah were eliminated,” he continued.Gallant
added that the IDF was “carrying out an operation today in several
villages, and this process will continue wherever necessary to destroy
all the infrastructure from which Hezbollah planned to carry out
attacks.”Rocket attacks on north and strikes in Lebanon-Meanwhile, some
180 rockets were fired from Lebanon in barrages targeting northern
Israel throughout the day, including over 70 rockets in a two-hour span
on Friday evening.According to the IDF, many of the rockets were shot
down by air defenses, and the remainder struck open areas.Separately,
two suspected drones that entered Israeli airspace from Lebanon a short
while ago were shot down by the Israeli Air Force, the military
said.Earlier, some two dozen rockets were fired from Lebanon at the
Haifa area in a pair of salvos Friday morning, setting off sirens in the
northern coastal city and surrounding communities. The military said
most of the projectiles were intercepted while others struck open
ground.Additionally, rockets were fired toward the Galilee area. Those
too were either intercepted or hit non-populated areas. There were no
reports of injuries or major damage in the attacks. On the opposite side
of the border, the IDF said fighter jets and drones struck dozens of
Hezbollah sites across Lebanon in the past day.The military said targets
in Beirut included weapon depots, command rooms, intelligence sites,
surveillance equipment, and other infrastructure. In southern Lebanon,
the IDF said dozens of Hezbollah weapon depots, cells of operatives,
rocket launchers, and buildings used by the terror group were struck. The
Israeli strikes and rocket fire from Lebanon came after Israel carried
out intensive strikes in Beirut late Thursday that reportedly targeted
Hashem Safieddine, Hezbollah’s next projected leader following the
assassination last week of the terror group’s chief Hassan
Nasrallah. There has been no word on his fate and neither the IDF or
Hezbollah have yet to comment on the attack. On Friday, the military
announced it killed the commander of Hezbollah’s communications division
in a separate airstrike in Beirut late Thursday.According to the IDF,
Muhammad Rashid Sakafi headed Hezbollah’s communications since 2000 and
was considered close to the terror group’s leadership.“Sakafi invested
significant efforts to develop communication capabilities between all of
Hezbollah’s units in all periods of operation, to maintain the flow of
information throughout the terrorist organization,” the military
added.Israel has in the past two weeks stepped up its attacks on
Hezbollah in Lebanon, all but decimating the terror group’s top command
in a series of massive airstrikes on Beirut and southern Lebanon. The
escalation followed Israel’s decision last month to make the return home
of northern residents an official war aim. Some 60,000 residents were
evacuated from northern towns on the Lebanon border shortly after
Hamas’s onslaught on October 7, out of fear Hezbollah would carry out a
similar attack. The onslaught saw thousands of Hamas-led terrorists storm
southern Israel to kill nearly 1,200 people and take 251 hostages,
sparking the war in Gaza.Since October 8, Hezbollah-led forces have
attacked Israeli communities and military posts along the border on a
near-daily basis, with the group saying it is doing so to support Gaza
amid the war there. So far, the skirmishes have resulted in 26 civilian
deaths on the Israeli side, and — excluding the soldiers killed in the
ground operation — the deaths of 22 IDF soldiers and reservists. There
have also been several attacks from Syria, without any
injuries.Hezbollah has named 516 members who have been killed by Israel
during the ongoing skirmishes, mostly in Lebanon but some also in Syria.
Another 92 operatives from other terror groups, a Lebanese soldier, and
dozens of civilians have also been killed. These numbers have not been
consistently updated since Israel began the new offensive against
Hezbollah, in which Lebanon’s health ministry says over 1,100 people
have been killed.Times of Israel staff contributed to this report.
US
and British militaries strike over a dozen Houthi targets across
Yemen-American officials confirm aircraft and warships bombed
strongholds of the Iran-backed rebels, who have threatened ‘escalating
military operations’ against Israel-By Agencies and ToI Staff Today,
8:59 pm-OCT 4,24
The US and British militaries struck more than a
dozen Houthi targets in Yemen on Friday, going after weapons systems,
bases and other equipment belonging to the Iranian-backed rebels, US
officials confirmed.Military aircraft and warships bombed Houthi
strongholds at roughly five locations, according to the officials.Houthi
media said seven strikes hit the airport in Hodeida, a major port city,
and the Katheib area, which has a Houthi-controlled military base. Four
more strikes hit the Seiyana area in Sanaa, the capital, and two
strikes hit the Dhamar province. The Houthi media office also reported
three air raids in Bayda province, southeast of Sanaa. There was no
immediate comment from the United States or Britain and the Houthi-run
outlets did not elaborate on any damage or casualties. The strikes come
just days after the Houthis threatened “escalating military operations”
targeting Israel since apparently shooting down a US military drone
flying over Yemen. And just last week, the group claimed responsibility
for an attack targeting American warships. The rebels fired more than a
half dozen ballistic missiles and anti-ship cruise missiles and two
drones at three US ships that were traveling through the Bab el-Mandeb
Strait, all of which were intercepted by the Navy destroyers, according
to several US officials. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to
discuss details not yet publicly released.Houthis have targeted more
than 80 merchant vessels with missiles and drones since the Hamas
onslaught on Israel last October started the war in Gaza, saying the
attacks are a show of support for Palestinians. They have seized one
vessel and sunk two in the campaign that has also killed four
sailors.Other missiles and drones have either been intercepted by a
US-led coalition in the Red Sea or failed to reach their targets, which
have included Western military vessels. The group has maintained that
they target ships linked to Israel, the US or the United Kingdom to
force an end to Israel’s campaign against Hamas in Gaza. However, many
of the ships attacked have little or no connection to the conflict,
including some bound for Iran.In addition to attacking ships, the
Houthis have targeted Israel directly with missiles and drones,
including a drone attack early Thursday targeting the center of the
country. In response to the latest ballistic missile attacks, the Israeli
Air Force conducted airstrikes on infrastructure in western Yemen
earlier this week that the military said was used by the Houthis.
Nasrallah
temporarily buried amid fears Israel will strike public funeral —
source-Source close to Lebanese group says remains of slain terror
leader being kept at secret site ‘until circumstances allow’ for public
burial-By AFP and ToI Staff Today, 5:47 pm-OCT 4,24
A source
close to Hezbollah said Friday that the Lebanese terror group’s slain
chief Hassan Nasrallah has been temporarily buried in a secret location
for fear Israel would target a large funeral.“Hassan Nasrallah has been
temporarily buried until the circumstances allow for a public funeral,”
the source said after an Israeli strike killed the leader last week. The
source said a public funeral had been impossible to hold “for fear of
Israeli threats they would target mourners and the place of his
burial.”Shiite Muslim rites provide for such a temporary burial when
circumstances prevent a proper funeral or the deceased cannot be buried
where they wished.A Lebanese official who spoke on condition of
anonymity said Hezbollah had, through top Lebanese officials, sought but
failed to obtain “guarantees” from the United States, a key ally of
Israel, that Israel would not target a public funeral.Amid intensifying
Israeli bombardment of Hezbollah-controlled areas, a massive strike on
its south Beirut stronghold on September 27 killed Nasrallah alongside
an an Iranian general in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.Israel
said it killed around 20 members of the Iran-backed terror
group.Nasrallah still does not have a successor a week after he was
killed. His cousin Hashem Safieddine, a prominent Hezbollah figure touted
as a possible successor, was reportedly the target of an Israeli
airstrike late Thursday on south Beirut. There is still no word on his
fate.
IDF says it destroyed tunnel used to smuggle Iranian
weapons from Syria to Lebanon-Two-mile cross-border passage targeted in
airstrike; military also hits ‘infrastructure’ at Masnaa border crossing
used by Lebanese civilians; minister says border sealed by craterBy
Emanuel Fabian, ToI Staff and Reuters Today, 1:30 pm-OCT 4,24
The
Israel Defense Forces said Friday that fighter jets struck a
two-mile-long tunnel overnight that crossed between Lebanon and Syria,
and which the military said was used by Hezbollah to smuggle Iranian
weapons.According to the IDF, the tunnel was operated by Hezbollah’s
Unit 4400, which is tasked with delivering weapons from Iran and its
proxies to Lebanon. The strike destroyed the tunnel where weapons were
transported through and stored, as well as buildings, weapon depots and
other infrastructure in the vicinity, the military said.It was the first
time the military has announced the destruction of a tunnel between
Lebanon and Syria. The IDF also said Friday it had conducted a separate
overnight airstrike on “infrastructure” at Lebanon’s main border
crossing with Syria, after identifying an attempted delivery of Iranian
weapons to Hezbollah via the civilian crossing.Lebanese Transport
Minister Ali Hamieh, a Hezbollah member, told Reuters the strike had
created a 12-foot (four-meter) crater next to the Masnaa Border
Crossing, sealing off Lebanon’s main route to Syria.Last night Israel

2024-The Lebanese government said that some 310,000 people — mostly
Syrians — have used the road to flee to Syria in the past ten days, amid
the escalation in fighting. The IDF has said it has stepped up efforts
to prevent any weapons being delivered from Iran to Hezbollah via Syria.
On Tuesday, the commander of Hezbollah’s Unit 4400 was killed in a
strike on Beirut.Col. Avichay Adraee, the IDF Arabic spokesperson, on
Thursday accused Hezbollah of using the border crossing to smuggle
Iranian arms into Lebanon.“The IDF will not allow the smuggling of these
weapons and will not hesitate to act if forced to do so,” he wrote on
X.Hamieh responded to the Israeli allegations at a press conference on
Thursday, saying the crossing was subject to the authority of the
Lebanese state and was being secured “in accordance with international
law.”The border crossing strike came hours after a massive Israeli
airstrike on Beirut — said to have targeted Hashem Safieddine, the
apparent successor to longtime Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah — at the
terror group’s intelligence headquarters. The strikes came as the IDF
broadened its ground operation in south Lebanon on Thursday and
Hezbollah fired over 240 rockets into northern Israel. The heavy rocket
fire into northern Israel continued Friday. The past two weeks have seen
Israel step up its strikes on Hezbollah in Lebanon, all but decimating
the terror group’s top command in a series of massive airstrikes on
Beirut and southern Lebanon. The escalation followed Israel’s decision
last month to make the return home of northern residents an official war
aim. Some 60,000 residents were evacuated from northern towns on the
Lebanon border shortly after Hamas’s October 7 onslaught, out of fear
Hezbollah would carry out a similar attack.Since October 8,
Hezbollah-led forces have attacked Israeli communities and military
posts along the border on a near-daily basis, with the group saying it
is doing so to support Gaza amid the war there. So far, the skirmishes
have resulted in 26 civilian deaths on the Israeli side, and — excluding
the soldiers killed in the ground operation — the deaths of 22 IDF
soldiers and reservists. There have also been several attacks from
Syria, without any injuries. The IDF has announced the deaths of nine
soldiers in the ground offensive against Hezbollah in southern
Lebanon. The military has described the operations as “limited, localized
and targeted raids,” with the goal of demolishing Hezbollah’s
infrastructure in the border area. Officials have said that the military
intends for the operations to end as quickly as possible.Since Israel
escalated its airstrikes on the Hezbollah terror group on Monday, more
than 630 people have been killed in Lebanon, according to the country’s
health ministry. At least a quarter of those killed have been women and
children, according to Lebanese health officials. More than 2,000 were
wounded. Israel has said that many Hezbollah operatives are among the
dead.
Security Council backs Guterres after Israeli move to label
UN chief ‘persona non grata’Members release statement emphasizing need
for all states in international body ‘to have a productive and effective
relationship with the secretary-general’By Agencies and ToI Staff
Today, 12:15 pm-OCT 4,24
The United Nations Security Council on
Thursday offered its full support to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres,
after Israel said he was “persona non grata” for not initially
condemning Iran’s massive ballistic missile attack.Without naming
Israel, the council’s five permanent members — Britain, China, France,
Russia and the United States — and the 10 non-permanent members
“underscored the need for all member states to have a productive and
effective relationship with the secretary-general.”The Council also
asked member states to “refrain from any actions that undermine his work
and that of his office.”“Any decision not to engage with the UN
secretary-general or the United Nations is counterproductive, especially
in the context of escalating tensions in the Middle East,” it
said.Israel on Wednesday declared the UN leader persona non grata for
failing to specifically condemn Iran’s missile attack on Israel. In an
initial statement on Tuesday, soon after the ballistic barrage, Guterres
deplored the “broadening conflict in the Middle East” without
mentioning the Iranian assault.Foreign Minister Israel Katz announced
Guterres was barred from Israel, and accused the UN chief of kowtowing
to “Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and now Iran — the mothership of
global terror,” of failing to denounce the October 7 attacks and of
neglecting to brand Hamas a terrorist organization. It was not clear
whether Katz had the authority to ban Guterres from Israel.Guterres did
later condemn Iran’s missile barrage, telling the Security Council on
Thursday: “As should have been obvious yesterday in the context of the
condemnation I expressed, I again strongly condemn yesterday’s massive
missile attack by Iran on Israel.” Despite his use of “again,” this was
in fact his first such condemnation.Israel has long had strained
relations with the United Nations, with ties between the state and the
international body souring even more after the October 7 Hamas attacks
on Israel.France on Thursday condemned Israel’s decision, saying it was
“unjustified.”“France regrets the unjustified, serious and
counterproductive decision taken by Israel to declare the
secretary-general of the United Nations, Mr. Antonio Guterres, persona
non grata,” the French foreign ministry said in a statement.Paris said
it had “full support for and confidence” in Guterres, adding that the
United Nations played “a fundamental role in the stability of the
region.”The United States has already criticized the move by its ally.
And EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell also defended Guterres in a
speech in Pontevedra in his native Spain, saying that “attacks on the UN
secretary-general” must be rejected.“Yes, everything started with the
terrorist attacks by Hamas that we condemn, but these attacks, as the UN
secretary-general has said, didn’t come from nowhere,” Borrell
declared, echoing remarks Guterres made weeks after the October 7 terror
onslaught that prompted Israeli calls for his resignation. The attacks
were “the umpteenth chapter of, a long story that started before,”
Borrell went on.“To say that should not mean someone being called or
given the insult of being antisemitic,” he said. “This word should not
be trivialized… it is too serious, too painful to be applied to someone
who expresses an opinion different from that of a government.”Borrell
said Israel has the right to defend itself “but this right, like all
rights, has limits.”“The question that we, Europeans, do not want to ask
ourselves, or at least do not want to answer, is whether these limits
have been reached. My answer is yes, unfortunately,” he said.

news agency: One of the strongest raids in past year-Nasrallah’s
presumed successor said to be target of heavy Israeli strike in
Beirut-Unclear if Hashem Safieddine hurt; NYT says he was meeting other
Hezbollah leaders in underground bunker; IDF says strike targeted

Israel
reportedly targeted the presumed successor to Hezbollah chief Hassan
Nasrallah in a heavy airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs around
midnight Thursday, just under a week after the head of the Iran-backed
terror group was killed in an Israeli attack. Both the Axios news site
and The New York Times identified Hashem Safieddine as the target of the
strike, with the latter outlet citing three Israeli officials saying he
was attending a meeting with other senior Hezbollah leaders in an
underground bunker. It was unclear if Safieddine was harmed in the
strike. The IDF said Friday morning that the airstrike in Beirut targeted
Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters. The military did not disclose
who was at the underground bunker. There was no immediate reaction from
Hezbollah. As head of the executive council, Safieddine oversees
Hezbollah’s political affairs. He also sits on the Jihad Council, which
manages the group’s military operations.Safieddine, whom the US State
Department designated as a terrorist in 2017, is a cousin of Nasrallah
and like him is a cleric who wears the black turban denoting ostensible
descent from Islam’s Prophet Mohammed. Safieddine’s family ties and
physical resemblance to Nasrallah, as well as his religious status as a
descendant of Mohammed, would all count in his favor to succeed the
slain arch-terrorist.He was reportedly targeted amid renewed air raids
in Beirut’s southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold known as Dahiyeh
after Israel ordered people to leave their homes in parts of the
district.“Israel struck the southern suburbs 11 consecutive times,” a
source close to Hezbollah said on condition of anonymity.AFP
correspondents in the capital and beyond heard loud bangs that made car
alarms go off and buildings shake. About an hour later, AFP journalists
heard several explosions coming from the direction of the southern
suburbs after the IDF ordered residents of the Hadath neighborhood to
evacuate.AFP footage showed giant balls of flame rising from the
targeted site with thick smoke billowing and flares shooting
out.Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA) said “more than 10
consecutive strikes have been recorded so far, in one of the strongest
raids on the southern suburbs of Beirut since the start of the Israeli
war on Lebanon.”The strikes echoed to mountain regions outside Beirut,
the NNA said.Earlier Thursday, IDF Arabic-language spokesperson Col.
Avichay Adraee had issued an “urgent warning” for residents of the south
Beirut area of Burj al-Barajneh to evacuate along with maps of the
area. He later issued the evacuation order for Hadath.“You are located
near facilities and interests belonging to Hezbollah, and the IDF will
work against them in the near future,” he said in a statement on
X.Earlier in the evening, a source close to Hezbollah said another
Israeli strike had targeted a warehouse next to Beirut airport, which
borders Dahiyeh.“An Israeli airstrike targeted a warehouse adjacent to
the airport,” the source told AFP, requesting anonymity to discuss
sensitive matters. It was unclear what the warehouse contained. And early
Friday, the IDF said it had intercepted “a hostile aircraft” that set
off alarms in the Beit She’an valley in northeast Israel.According to
the IDF, the aircraft had entered the territory from “the east” — a term
the army has previously used to refer to attacks by Iraq-based militias
which, like Hezbollah, belong to the “Axis of Resistance” network of
Iran’s regional proxies. The strike said to target Safieddine came as the
army broadened its ground operation in south Lebanon on Thursday and
also conducted waves of airstrikes at Hezbollah targets, including
eliminating a top commander responsible for killing 12 children in a
rocket strike on Israel earlier in the year.Meanwhile, the Iran-backed
group fired more than 200 rockets into northern Israel.Israel has in the
past two weeks stepped up its attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon.Amid the
escalation, Israel has all but decimated the terror group’s top command
in a series of massive airstrikes on Beirut and southern Lebanon. The
escalation followed Israel’s decision last month to make the return home
of northern residents an official war aim.
There
have also been several attacks from Syria, without any injuries. The IDF
has announced the deaths of nine soldiers in the ground offensive
against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. The military has described the
operations as “limited, localized and targeted raids,” with the goal of
demolishing Hezbollah’s infrastructure in the border area. Officials
have said that the military intends for the operations to end as quickly
as possible.Since Israel escalated its airstrikes on the Hezbollah
terror group on Monday, more than 630 people have been killed in
Lebanon, according to the country’s health ministry. At least a quarter
of those killed have been women and children, according to Lebanese
health officials. More than 2,000 were wounded. Israel has said that
many Hezbollah operatives are among the dead.
Kushner has held
talks with MBS on US-Saudi diplomacy, Israel normalization-Source close
to Trump’s son-in-law doesn’t specify when the discussions took place
and declines to give further details, saying ‘it wouldn’t be appropriate
to share that’By Reuters and ToI Staff Today, 6:48 pm-OCT 4,24
WASHINGTON
— Jared Kushner, son-in-law of former US president Donald Trump, has
discussed US-Saudi diplomatic negotiations involving Israel with Saudi
Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman multiple times since leaving
the Trump White House, said a source familiar with the discussions. The
source did not identify when the talks took place and whether they
occurred before or after the Gaza conflict began with Hamas’s October 7
attack on Israel. But they included discussions on the process of
normalizing relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia, a key diplomatic
objective of both the Biden and Trump administrations, the source
said.Kushner, 43, has a close relationship with Saudi Arabia, which
congressional investigators say has invested $2 billion in his private
equity fund, Affinity Partners, which Kushner set up after leaving the
White House. The news that Kushner and Saudi Arabia’s de-facto leader
discussed a peace accord that US President Joe Biden also has tried to
broker illustrates the importance both Republicans and Democrats place
on the increasingly unstable Middle East amid a razor-close presidential
election. The talks also signal how Trump might manage the crisis in
the region if voters return him to power – and renew questions about
whether Kushner’s financial ties with Riyadh could influence US policy
under his father-in-law.Saudi Arabia’s investments in Kushner’s fund
have been criticized by ethics experts, Democrats in Congress and even
some Republicans, who have expressed concern that Saudi Arabia’s stake
can look like a payoff since Kushner worked on Saudi issues before
leaving Trump’s White House. In a September 24 letter to Affinity,
Democratic Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon, chair of the Senate Finance
Committee, wrote that investments by Saudi Arabia in Kushner’s fund
raise “obvious conflicts of interest concerns.”Affinity and Kushner have
denied that Saudi Arabia’s investments are a payoff or a conflict of
interest. Affinity said Wyden and his Senate staff do not understand the
realities of private equity. “The reason so many people go to Jared for
his insights and his opinions is that he’s had such a record of
successes,” said a spokesperson for Kushner. The source close to Kushner
declined to provide more details of the discussions with the crown
prince, also known as “MBS,” saying he did not want to violate the
friendship between the two. “It wouldn’t be appropriate for me to share
that,” the source said.A spokesperson for the Saudi Embassy in
Washington did not answer questions about Kushner’s discussions with
MBS.In a September 18 speech, MBS said the kingdom would not recognize
Israel without the creation a Palestinian state, suggesting a deal may
be near impossible for the foreseeable future. That’s a shift from
February when three sources told Reuters that Saudi Arabia was willing
to accept a political commitment from Israel to create a Palestinian
state, rather than anything more binding, in a bid to get a defense pact
with Washington approved before the US presidential election. To
encourage Saudi Arabia to recognize Israel, the Biden administration has
offered Riyadh security guarantees, assistance with a civilian nuclear
program and a renewed push for a Palestinian state. The deal could
reshape the Middle East by uniting two long-time foes and binding the
world’s biggest oil exporter to Washington at a time when China is
making inroads in the region. But the Gaza conflict has thrown the talks
into uncertainty. The war and humanitarian crisis have strengthened Arab
and Muslim support for the Palestinians in their decades-long conflict
with Israel over land and statehood, making it difficult for Riyadh to
discuss recognizing Israel without addressing Palestinian
aspirations. The US election is also a factor as Trump, a Republican,
vies with Vice President Kamala Harris, a Democrat, in a historically
tight race for the White House. The Saudi relationship with Trump was
notably close. Trump’s first foreign trip as president in 2017 was to
Riyadh, accompanied by Kushner. After Saudi expatriate opposition
journalist Jamal Khashoggi was murdered at the Saudi consulate in
Istanbul, Trump stood by the crown prince in spite of a US intelligence
assessment that he had authorized the killing. MBS denied
involvement. Two sources familiar with Saudi strategy said that if Trump
returns to the White House, the crown prince would welcome making a deal
with Israel under his leadership. If Harris were to win, the agreement
would still move forward, the sources said. Either way, the sources see
it as a win-win for MBS, even if it requires a few more months of
patience. On September 27, Prime Benjamin Netanyahu referred to the
prospect of an agreement in positive terms. “What blessing such a peace
with Saudi Arabia would bring,” he said in a speech to the UN General
Assembly.Normalizing Israeli-Saudi relations would mark an expansion of
the “Abraham Accords” sealed when Trump was in office. The accords led
to the normalization of relations between Israel and the United Arab
Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan. Kushner, who is close to Israel,
led the negotiations as a senior adviser in Trump’s White House.Three
sources close to Kushner said that if Trump wins November’s presidential
election, they expect Kushner to be involved in the Saudi talks, albeit
in an unofficial capacity. A spokesperson for Kushner denied that he is
seeking such a role.If Kushner were to be involved in diplomatic talks
as a private citizen in a second Trump term, it could pose a significant
conflict of interest, ethics experts say, putting Kushner in the
extraordinary position of conducting government-level negotiations with
one of his major financial investors. While Kushner and his wife, Ivanka
Trump, have largely stayed away from Trump’s campaign events, they were
present at the Republican National Convention in July, sitting and
clapping in the family box behind Trump.
Swedish intelligence
says Iran may have had role in Israeli embassy attacks in Nordics-There
were explosions, gunfire near Israel’s embassies in Stockholm,
Copenhagen this week; Sweden has previously accused Iran of recruiting
criminals to attack Israeli targets-By Agencies Today, 7:22 pm
The
Swedish intelligence agency Sapo said Thursday that Iran may have been
involved in explosions and gunfire around Israeli embassies in Sweden
and Denmark this week.In Denmark, police said they arrested three
Swedish nationals on Wednesday after two blasts, likely caused by hand
grenades, close to the Israeli embassy in Copenhagen. On Tuesday, the
Israeli embassy in Stockholm was targeted in a shooting, according to
Swedish police.Asked about reports of links to Iran, Fredrik Hallstrom,
head of operations at the Sapo agency, told a press conference that
“there are some things that could point in that direction.”“In part due
to the choice of targets and modus operandi, but that is an assumption
rather than pure knowledge,” Hallstrom said.In May, Sapo said that Iran
was recruiting members of Swedish criminal gangs to commit “acts of
violence” against Israeli and other interests in Sweden — a claim Iran
denied.Swedish broadcaster SVT on Wednesday reported that it had
received information that the two latest embassy attacks had been
ordered by the Swedish criminal network Foxtrot — at the behest of
Iran.Today, three men from Sweden were arrested after throwing hand
grenades near the Israeli Embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark.Stay

2024-A Danish court on Thursday remanded two of the arrested Swedes —
aged 16 and 19 — in custody for 27 days.Copenhagen police said that the
third Swede, arrested near the crime scene, had been released.Thursday’s
hearing was held behind closed doors after the preliminary charges were
read. Reporting from inside the court room, Danish broadcaster DR said
the teenagers, aged 16 and 19, are suspected of acting “in association
and together with prior agreement with one or more perpetrators.”Both
denied the charges, local media reported. The two suspects were arrested
Wednesday shortly before noon on a train at Copenhagen’s central
station. Danish media ran photos of a man in a white hazmat suit being
taken away by police on a train platform at the station. In Denmark, the
charges are one step short of formal charges and allow authorities to
keep criminal suspects in custody during an investigation. The Danish
domestic security service, known by its acronym PET, said that “Swedish
authorities have assessed that at least one specific act directed at the
Israeli embassy in Stockholm, which was carried out by young criminals
in Sweden, has links to Iran.”In a statement, PET said, “if we have a
state actor who gets young criminals to carry out actions aimed at
Jewish targets in our neighboring country, then we can be concerned that
this will also happen in Denmark.”Since the outbreak of the
Israel-Hamas war in October 2023, when Hamas stormed into Israeli,
killing some 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages, several incidents
apparently targeting Israeli interests in Sweden have been reported. In
February, police found a grenade on the grounds of the Israeli embassy
compound, which the ambassador said was an attempted attack. In May,
gunshots were fired outside the Israeli embassy, which prompted the
country to boost security measures around Israeli interests and Jewish
community institutions.
IDF says it killed Hamas de facto PM –
Sinwar’s right-hand man – in strike 3 months ago-Military says Rawhi
Mushtaha was killed along with top officials Sameh al-Siraj and Sami
Odeh in a strike on a fortified underground compound for Hamas
leaders-By Emanuel Fabian-Today, 5:42 pm-OCT 3,24
Senior Hamas
official Rawhi Mushtaha, the de facto prime minister of the Gaza Strip,
was killed in an Israeli strike several months ago, the IDF and Shin Bet
said Thursday, announcing that they had confirmed his death. The IDF
described Mushtaha as Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s “right-hand man and
one of his closest associates.” Channel 12 news reported that he was a
long-time cellmate of Sinwar’s in Israeli prison, was freed with Sinwar
in the 2011 Shalit deal, and was one of the five key architects of the
October 7 Hamas invasion and slaughter in southern Israel.According to
the military and Shin Bet, Mushtaha was targeted in a strike in the Gaza
Strip three months ago, along with Hamas officials Sameh al-Siraj, who
held the security portfolio in Hamas’s political bureau, and Sami Odeh,
the head of Hamas’s “general security mechanism.”The strike, carried out
by fighter jets, targeted the officials while they were hiding in a
tunnel in the northern Gaza Strip. The IDF says it had “precise
intelligence” indicating the officials were in the tunnel. But until now,
they had not been able to confirm that they were killed. The military
described the tunnel as “a fortified and equipped underground compound”
that “served as a Hamas command and control center and enabled senior
operatives to remain inside of it for extended periods of time.”Hamas
has not confirmed the deaths of the senior officials. The IDF said that
Hamas is hiding its losses “to prevent loss of morale and functioning of
its terror operatives.”Mushtaha and Sinwar served a prison sentence
together in an Israeli jail, and later together established Hamas’s
general security mechanism, according to the IDF.“Mushtaha was
considered to be the most senior figure in the Hamas political bureau in
the Gaza Strip, and during the war maintained civil control of the
Hamas regime, while simultaneously engaging in terror activity against
Israel,” the military said. The IDF says he was also “one of Hamas’s most
senior operatives, and had a direct impact on decisions relating to
Hamas’s force deployment.”“Mushtaha was involved in military decisions
while also acting as the head of Hamas civil governance in the Gaza
Strip and holding the prisoners affairs portfolio. He also formerly held
the finance portfolio,” the military added.Israel launched an assault
on Hamas in the Gaza Strip following the October 7th massacre, when some
3,000 terrorists breached the border and killed some 1,200 people, most
of them civilians.Israel’s campaign to destroy Hamas and return the
hostages has seen the military target many of Hamas’s leaders including
the shadowy head of their military wing Muhammad Deif and Rafa’a
Salameh, the commander of Hamas’s Khan Younis Brigade, in a strike in
July.Deif’s deputy, Marwan Issa, was killed in an airstrike in
March.Hamas’s political leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated,
allegedly by Israel, in Tehran in late July, and the terror group’s
deputy political leader, Salah al-Arouri, was killed by Israel in an
airstrike in Lebanon’s capital Beirut in January.Hamas leader Sinwar has
been incommunicado for a relatively long time, and Israel has been
investigating the possibility — currently unlikely speculation not
backed by any hard evidence — that he is dead.More than half of Hamas’s
military wing leadership in Gaza has been confirmed killed by the IDF so
far amid the fighting. The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry says more than
40,000 people in the Strip have been killed or are presumed dead in the
fighting so far, though the toll cannot be verified and does not
differentiate between civilians and fighters.Israel says it has killed
more than 17,000 combatants in battle and another 1,000 terrorists
inside Israel on October 7. Israel has said it seeks to minimize
civilian fatalities and stresses that Hamas uses Gaza’s civilians as
human shields, fighting from civilian areas including homes, hospitals,
schools, and mosques.
I stay awake all night wondering what will
happen' Israel’s 68,000 evacuees mark the Jewish new year wondering when
they will return home-In the year since the Oct. 7 massacre, near-daily
attacks by Hezbollah have left the lives of displaced northern
residents in limbo. And now the conflict is intensifying-By Deborah
Danan Today, 4:04 pm-OCT 3,24
JTA — At this point, Gabi Hasin had
grown used to fleeing his home ahead of missile fire from Lebanon. A
resident of the northern border city of Kiryat Shmona, Hasin has spent
the past year on the move, relocating seven times to keep himself and
his family out of harm’s way.So when he packed his bags and moved south
again over the past couple weeks — this time from the northern city of
Tiberias to Jerusalem — it was the least of his problems. He’s taking
sleeping pills for the first time in his life. Last month, his daughter
was hospitalized with panic attacks because she was due to get married
on the day thousands of Hezbollah operatives’ pagers exploded
simultaneously in Lebanon. Now, for the first time in decades, he and his
10 siblings are apart for Rosh Hashanah, which began Wednesday
evening.Every year, they all gather at their late parents’ home in
Kiryat Shmona for the holiday, setting up a large makeshift tent to
accommodate dozens of children and grandchildren. Instead, the 11
siblings are scattered across six cities. Hasin will be with his in-laws
in Jerusalem.“It’s very depressing,” he said. “I don’t care about
what’s going on in Jerusalem, Tiberias or anywhere else. My only concern
is Kiryat Shmona. It’s a town, but it feels like a village and is the
most family-oriented place there is. Everyone knows everyone there. When
I walk down the street, I can’t stop saying hello.”Hasin is one of more
than 68,000 Israelis, mostly from the north, who have lived as evacuees
for nearly a year since Hamas launched its terror onslaught last
October 7, butchering 1,200 people in southern Israel and kidnapping 251
to the Gaza Strip. Hezbollah began attacking Israel soon afterward, and
that conflict has escalated into another front in the war, as Israel
has pummeled Hezbollah leaders and infrastructure in Lebanon and the
terror group and its sponsor, Iran, have shot hundreds of missiles at
Israel. Many residents of the north hope that when the war is over, they
will be able to again live in their houses and apartments. But for many
who have been displaced over the past year, their only wish is to
celebrate the holidays at home — a near-impossibility at a time when the
conflict is only escalating.“I stay up all night thinking about the
future, wondering what will happen, how we’ll return to Kiryat Shmona,
and if my kids will ever come back. We would have been home ages ago if
[the government] had done earlier what they’re doing the last two weeks
in Lebanon,” said Hasin. No matter what happens in the war, Kiryat Shmona
may not be able to return to the way things were. According to a poll
conducted in June, 43 percent of the city’s approximately 30,000
residents are considering not returning to their homes, while 13% have
already decided they will not go back.Other residents of the north are
facing tough judgment calls ahead of the holiday. Shani Tzililm has
spent much of the past week sheltering with her four kids in their home
in the Haifa suburb of Kiryat Bialik from rockets fired by Iran and
Hezbollah. Their city has not yet been evacuated. But this week, she
won’t be celebrating Rosh Hashanah with her mother in the nearby city of
Acre — because it’s 10 miles further north, and even more unsafe. Her
mother’s home in the ancient mixed Arab-Jewish city lacks a safe room,
and the nearest bomb shelter is in a school several minutes away.
Tzililm’s apartment building, at least, has a bomb shelter, though,
during a barrage of successive sirens on Sunday, she fell and tumbled
down the stairs with her three-year-old in her arms.“I prefer to sit at
home where I feel safer. But who knows anymore what’s safe?” Tzililm
said. “I can’t cope with it anymore. My eight-year-old is full of
anxiety, she cries all day. I’m scared to death myself. How much longer
can we live like this? I pray every day for this war to end. I don’t
care how, it needs to be over.”Daniel Ohana, a municipal coordinator for
the thousands of evacuees living in hotels throughout Tel Aviv, said
that his team conducted hotel visits ahead of the holiday to ensure that
evacuees had everything they needed.“It’s difficult. We’ve moved a
whole city — which has a certain culture and pace of life — to another
city with an entirely different culture,” Ohana said. “But we’re trying
to do everything we can to make sure we preserve a sense of community
and family. Little gestures like pre-holiday toasts.”He emphasized that
the work wasn’t only a one-way effort; evacuees from Kiryat Shmona were
also volunteering to help by packing food parcels for needy Tel Aviv
families. In Haifa’s Rambam Medical Center, Rosh Hashanah preparations
were underway at the Sammy Ofer Fortified Underground Emergency Hospital
— the world’s largest underground medical facility, built to remain
functional during a rocket barrage. Now, the subterranean hospital has
sprung into action: 600 patients were transferred there last week amid
rocket fire, though around 200 ambulatory patients will be moved back to
the regular hospital for the holiday, hospital spokesperson David
Ratner told JTA on Monday.Rabbi Shmuel Turkov, director of Lev Chabad in
Haifa, was organizing prayers and meals in cooperation with Rambam’s
onsite rabbi. “People are concerned about how they will celebrate the
holiday in the hospital. We’re making sure they will hear the shofar,
and have a proper festive meal with all the simanim,” he said, referring
to Rosh Hashanah foods symbolizing wishes for the new year. The widening
war is affecting people throughout the country. Several nonprofits
ramped up their activity this week to meet the sharp rise in demand for
aid, addressing the new waves of needy people affected by the war, or
what celebrity chef Jamie Geller referred to as the “new poor.” Geller
is working with emergency relief organization Yad Ezra V’Shulamit.“We
have so many new poor this holiday season. They were givers last year
and now need to be on the receiving end of charitable donations and food
rations,” Geller said. The organization had been asked by the Home Front
Command to feed an extra 16,000 families impacted by the war, bringing
the total up to 66,000 holiday food baskets.“There are wartorn widows
and orphans who not only have to prepare for the first holiday season
without their loved ones, they also have to be concerned about putting
food on the table,” she said.Moshe Cohen, CEO of the nonprofit Chasdei
Naomi, highlighted that the food baskets his organization would give out
this year included extra staples and holiday-specific items because
Rosh Hashanah immediately precedes Shabbat, extending the festival into a
three-day holiday, a rarity in Israel. He also expressed gratitude for
the many foreign volunteers, primarily from the US, who arrived to
assist with packaging the increased number of food parcelsMeanwhile, in
Kiryat Bialik, Tzililm, who earns minimum wage as a kindergarten
assistant, received holiday food vouchers from the International
Fellowship of Christians and Jews. This year, the group increased its
annual holiday aid campaign allowance to $10 million, also extending its
support beyond its usual roster of needy families to include those
impacted by the war, including residents of border towns and displaced
families, hostage families, survivors of the October 7 massacre and IDF
reservists in financial need. But Tzililm said she wasn’t even sure she
had the strength to cook the food she had been given.“I’ll be honest
with you, I’m just not in the mood to make the holiday this year,” she
said.In Jaffa, single mother Karina Zilbersher’s Rosh Hashanah plans
were upended over the weekend when her only son, Liam, a soldier in the
Israeli Air Defense Command, was deployed alongside approximately 10,000
other soldiers. With the growing threat of ballistic missiles and
large-caliber rocket launches from Iran and its proxies like Hezbollah,
soldiers in Liam’s unit, responsible for operating David’s Sling, an
Israeli air-defense system, will be on duty throughout the
holidays.“They’re the most needed soldiers right now, and I get that,
but it’s still so frustrating,” Zilbersher said. “I have no other family
in Israel. He’s all I have, and they took him.”

A Yazidi woman who was kidnapped from
Iraq by ISIS in 2014 at the age of 11 and trafficked to the Gaza Strip
has been rescued and reunited with her family. The rescue and return home
of Fawzi Amin Sido was announced separately by the foreign ministries
of Israel and Iraq.Israel’s foreign ministry said Sido was taken from
her family in 2014 amid ISIS attacks on Yazidi communities in Iraq, as
the terror organization known for its brutalities took control of vast
swaths of the country. She was then sold off to a Gazan man who was
visiting Iraq at the time. Israeli security forces recently extracted
Sido and returned her home.In a later statement, the Israel Defense
Forces, said that Sido was rescued in a complex operation in that was
coordinated by the IDF’s COGAT and the US Embassy in Jerusalem, together
with “other members of the international community.”The IDF said that
the “terrorist who had been holding her” was recently killed, apparently
in an Israeli strike during the fighting in Gaza, allowing her to flee
to a hiding place in Gaza.“The young girl was extracted from the Gaza
Strip in recent days in a secret operation through the Kerem Shalom
crossing. After crossing into Israel, she was taken to Jordan via the
Allenby Crossing and then on to her family in Iraq,” the IDF said. The
military said the incident provided further proof of the “connection
between the Hamas terror group and the Islamic State and further
evidence of the crimes against humanity that the murderous terror group
was carrying out in Gaza.”In a statement, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry
said Sido had been released through joint efforts “in high coordination”
with the US embassies in Baghdad and Amman along with Jordanian
authorities. It made no mention of Israeli involvement.A US State
Department spokesperson said the US on October 1 “helped to safely
evacuate from Gaza a young Yazidi woman to be reunited with her family
in Iraq.”The spokesperson said she was kidnapped from her home in Iraq
at the age of 11 and sold and trafficked to Gaza. Her captor was
recently killed, allowing her to escape and seek repatriation, the
spokesperson said.Jewish philanthropist Steve Maman, dubbed by some as
the “Jewish Schindler,” shared a video of her reuniting with her family
Wednesday night, and alluded to his involvement in her release.“I made a
promise to Fawzia the Yazidi who was hostage of Hamas in Gaza that I
would bring her back home to her mother in Sinjar,” Maman wrote on X.
“To her, it seemed surreal and impossible but not to me, my only enemy
was time. Our team reunited her moments ago with her mother and family
in Sinjar.”Fawzia, a Yazidi girl kidnapped by ISIS from Iraq and brought
to Gaza at just 11 years old, has finally been rescued by the Israeli
security forces. For years, she was held captive by a Palestinian

Diplomacy Bureau, commented on her release, saying: “For years, she was
held captive by a Palestinian Hamas-ISIS member. Her story is a reminder
of the brutality faced by Yazidi children, taken without a choice.”The
woman is a member of the ancient Yazidi religious minority mostly found
in Iraq and Syria which saw more than 5,000 members killed and thousands
more kidnapped in a 2014 campaign that the UN has said constituted
genocide. The Yazidis are a Kurdish-speaking group hailing from northern
Iraq.More than 6,000 Yazidis were captured by Islamic State terrorists
from their native Sinjar region in Iraq in 2014, with many of the women
and girls sold into sexual slavery and boys indoctrinated in jihadi
ideology and trained as child soldiers and taken across borders,
including to Turkey and Syria.Over the years, more than 3,500 have been
rescued or freed, according to Iraqi authorities, with some 2,600 still
missing. Many are feared dead but Yazidi activists say they believe
hundreds are still alive.

most slanted global media outlets-BBC coverage of Hamas conflict
‘profoundly biased,’ says former pro-Iran commentator-Once a vocal
supporter of the Islamic Republic, Catherine Perez-Shakdam recently
stepped up to head We Believe In Israel – and now has Britain’s top
broadcaster in her sights-By Robert Philpot-Today, 3:08 pm-OCT 3,24
LONDON
— When Catherine Perez-Shakdam took the helm of Britain’s biggest
grassroots pro-Israel campaign group this summer, she inherited a
bulging inbox .Aside from the continuing domestic fallout from the
conflict between Israel and Hamas, the UK’s new Labour government has
made a string of decisions that have dismayed and infuriated large
elements of the country’s Jewish community and supporters of
Israel.Since taking the helm in July, Labour has restored funding for
the UN’s Palestinian refugee agency, UNRWA; pulled out of a legal case
opposing the International Criminal Court application for arrest
warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav
Gallant; and partially suspended arms exports to Israel.Add to that the
simmering controversy over the BBC’s coverage of the conflict between
Hamas and Israel. It boiled over at the beginning of September with the
release of a report finding the corporation had displayed a “deeply
worrying pattern of bias” against the Jewish state, and had breached its
own editorial guidelines more than 1,500 times in its reporting at the
height of the Israel-Hamas war.But Perez-Shakdam is hardly a stranger to
tough challenges. In March 2022, having written a series of blog posts
for The Times of Israel, Perez-Shakdam revealed to the paper her
incredible journey from pro-Tehran talking head to arch-critic of the
Iranian regime.Born to Jewish parents in Paris whose own parents had
fled Nazi persecution, Perez-Shakdam lived as a Muslim while studying in
the UK after marrying a Muslim man from Yemen. She later spent years as
a journalist and commentator in the Middle East and began appearing on
Iranian state media. Increasingly trusted and valued by the regime,
Perez-Shakdam was granted an audience with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali
Khamanei; interviewed the late Ebrahim Raisi during his initial,
unsuccessful 2017 bid for the presidency (he would succeed in 2021 and
serve as president until his death this year); and was invited to a
pro-Palestinian conference in Tehran attended by Hamas terror chief
Khaled Mashaal. However, thanks to her teenage daughter — who had come to
embrace Zionist views — Perez-Shakdam began to question her own outlook
and reconnect with her Jewish heritage.“For years, I was motivated by a
kind of self-hate. But you realize that you can’t deny who you are,”
Perez-Shakdam told The Times of Israel at the time.Perez-Shakdam’s
journey was capped by her appointment last month as director of We
Believe In Israel. She replaces Luke Akehurst, who was elected as a
Labour MP in the July general election. The campaign group seeks to
counter the well-organized pro-Palestinian lobby by mobilizing
grassroots support for the Jewish state. For years, I was motivated by a
kind of self-hate. But you realize that you can’t deny who you are.The
group’s latest campaign has the BBC firmly in its crosshairs. The new
report into the BBC led by British-Israeli lawyer Trevor Asserson says
the public service broadcaster’s coverage associated Israel with war
crimes, genocide, and international law violations far more often than
it did Hamas. It claims that the BBC downplayed Hamas terrorism, and
finds that the BBC’s Arabic service was among the most biased global
media outlets in covering the Israel-Hamas conflict.Perhaps
unsurprisingly, Perez isn’t one to pull her punches during an interview
with The Times of Israel.“It’s appalling, it’s profoundly biased,”
Perez-Shakdam says of the BBC coverage. “It is portraying Israel as this
pariah state that has no right to self-defense, almost challenging its
right to exist by characterizing Hamas’s action as that of a resistance
group. For me, that is very devious, it’s very nefarious and it’s
insidious.”“You have to pay for the BBC,” she says. “I think that they
have an obligation to the British public to really inform them… and
unfortunately, [that] hasn’t been the case.” (The BBC is funded by a
license fee which all Britons with a television are legally obliged to
pay.)-In Britain, she says, this approach has contributed to a surge in
antisemitism and the fact that “anti-Zionism has become the new norm.”
Perez-Shakdam is unapologetic about her approach. “People may disagree
with me, but I think that we need to be quite strong,” she says. “After
October 7, I don’t think that we can hide behind polite talk.”After
October 7, I don’t think that we can hide behind polite talk-We Believe
In Israel’s campaign — which attracted more than 2,000 emails to the
BBC’s director-general, Tim Davie, within 48 hours of its launch — calls
on the BBC to open an independent investigation into its handling of
the Israel-Hamas conflict. It also urges the BBC to “publicly recognize
that the disinformation broadcast by the BBC has harmed Jewish
communities and Israel,” and requires the broadcaster to set new
standards to root out bias.Perez-Shakdam says her organization’s
campaigning is not driven by hostility to the BBC, which is prevalent in
the opposition Conservative party and its media allies, as well as on
the far left. “It’s not a witch hunt. This is not an effort to bring
down the BBC,” she says. “It’s just to elevate the level of journalism
and to make sure that ethic [of impartiality] is at the forefront of it
all.”The corporation itself has questioned the report’s methodology and
Davie defended coverage when he appeared before the House of Lords’
Communications and Digital Committee this week.“Broadly, I think we are
doing a very good job and the research that we have into the overall
public response is good,” he told peers. “But that doesn’t mean we are
perfect.” But, appearing alongside the director-general, the BBC’s
chair, Samir Shah, indicated that he believed its coverage of the
conflict between Israel and Hamas should be the subject of the next
“thematic review” conducted by the BBC.Perez-Shakdam is dissatisfied
with the broadcaster’s response so far.“The BBC has a lot of answering
to do and I don’t think that it’s willing to do that; it [has] already
doubled down,” she says. She believes the government may have to take
action. “Taxpayers’ money is being used, through the vehicle of the TV
license. The government needs to do something about it. This is not a
case of free speech. It’s a case of holding the BBC accountable for a
service that it is not providing in violation of its own
[guidelines].”Perez-Shakdam returns often to the theme of
“accountability.” There is a constant call from the media and
international community for Israel to be held accountable for its
behavior, she notes. It’s now time for others to be held accountable and
take responsibility for theirs.Perez-Shakdam is angered by the
government’s decision to restrict arms sales to Israel and accuses
ministers of “abandoning” an ally of the UK in its hour of need. But she
is also incensed by the timing of Foreign Secretary David Lammy’s
critical statement on the topic, which came as Israelis were burying six
hostages murdered by Hamas. “It is appalling. I have no words, no words
at all,” she says.Perez-Shakdam dismisses Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s
argument that the government was simply following the legal process.
“This is… a very typical political answer,” she responds. “He’s trying
to run away from accountability.”She accuses Labour of being motivated
by a desire to “make a point.”“This is an issue when politicians are
peddling not the interests of the country, but that of their base. I
feel that it was a very political decision,” she says.Perez-Shakdam
notes too that Labour’s decision was not made in a vacuum but followed
swiftly on the heels of its decisions on UNRWA (the subject of another
We Believe In Israel campaign) and the ICC arrest warrant bid. She
believes the decisions collectively reflect pressure from within the
Labour Party and calls for a “greater conversation” within the country
about them. But Perez-Shakdam is also concerned that the threat posed by
Israel’s enemies to Britain and other Western democracies is not well
enough appreciated.“I wish that the government and the media were
spending half of the time they spent on Israel, trying to cover Iran and
raise public awareness,” she says. She believes the Islamic Republic
operates a “very powerful underground lobby group” in the West “through a
series of outposts.”Iran, she says, is “abusing and using our charity
laws and NGOs.” She also accuses the regime’s supporters of
“infiltrating… academia.” The result, she notes, is apparent in the
anti-Israel protests on campuses in the UK and Western Europe, the US
and Canada.Perez-Shakdam believes there’s too little focus on the
military support Iran is providing to Russia in its invasion of Ukraine
(although Britain, Germany, France and the US imposed new sanctions on
Tehran in September after it transferred more than 200 ballistic
missiles to Russia), as well as the “death squads” deployed by the
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to target regime critics. As a
high-profile supporter of Israel and staunch opponent of Tehran, how
much does Perez-Shakdam worry about her own safety?“If you’re Jewish,
the threat is there. The threat is real,” she responds. The plight of
French Jews is much on her mind and serves as a warning: “In France,
people are dying. People are being attacked. Synagogues are being
targeted… How can I stay silent?” she says. “I think that we have a
collective duty as Jews to care for each other and look after each other
and defend each other.”Her assessment of the regime with which she once
had close ties is scathing.“They don’t scare me because I know what
they are,” Perez-Shakdam says. “They are bullies, they are fascists,
they are the worst kind. I will fight them and I will denounce them at
every corner, come what may.”Perez-Shakdam says she is inspired by the
example of teenagers serving in the IDF. “If kids can fight for our
freedom and our survival, then I will do that too with the tools that I
have.”I will fight them and I will denounce them at every corner, come
what may She is keenly aware that pro-Israel groups in Britain lack the
impact of those opposed to the Jewish state. This isn’t simply a
question of money, numbers or organization, but also the manner in which
the pro-Palestinian lobby has “managed to weave a narrative by claiming
to be the underdog and the great liberator of the world and to be
standing for truth and freedom.” But, she says, anyone who knows
anything about the grim existence of Palestinians under Hamas rule in
Gaza knows there is “nothing liberating” about it.“I don’t think that
they understand the reality of it. I don’t think they actually are doing
anything for Palestinians,” Perez-Shakdam says. Her prescription is to
trust in the good intentions of the public.“You have a lot of good
people in good conscience who are making the most terrible decision on
the basis of a lie,” Perez-Shakdam says. “We Believe is perfectly
positioned to tell people the truth. If I make my case clear enough and
well enough, then I believe that they will have no choice but to join
us.”“Israel is defending freedom and Zionism is the biggest exercise in
decolonization in modern-day history and we should treasure it,” she
says. “We’re going to fix it. I have hope.”
