WARN THE PEOPLE-WW3
EZEKIEL 33:1-6
1 Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2
Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them,
When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man
of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:
3 If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;
4
Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not
warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon
his own head.
5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not
warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall
deliver his soul.
6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow
not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and
take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but
his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.

And at the time of the end shall the king of the south( EGYPT) push at
him:(EU DICTATOR IN ISRAEL) and the king of the north (RUSSIA AND MUSLIM
HORDES OF EZEK 38+39) shall come against him like a whirlwind, with
chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter

41 He shall
enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be
overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab,
and the chief of the children of Ammon.(JORDAN)
42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
43
But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
Ecclesiastes 9:10
10
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the
realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor
planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.
EZEKIEL 31:10-17
10
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up thyself
in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his
heart is lifted up in his height;
11 I have therefore delivered him
into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal
with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness.
12 And
strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left
him: upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen,
and his boughs are broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the
people of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him.
13 Upon his ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches:
14To
the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for
their height, neither shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither
their trees stand up in their height, all that drink water: for they
are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the
midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.(HELL).
15Thus
saith the Lord GOD; In the day when he went down to the grave I caused a
mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the floods
thereof, and the great waters were stayed: and I caused Lebanon to mourn
for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him.
16 I made
the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to
hell with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the
choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in
the nether parts of the earth.
17They also went down into hell with
him unto [them that be] slain with the sword; and [they that were] his
arm, [that] dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the heathen.
18To
whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of
Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the
nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the
uncircumcised with [them that be] slain by the sword. This [is] Pharaoh
and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD.
EZEKIEL 32:17-32
17
It came to pass also in the twelfth year, in the fifteenth [day] of the
month, [that] the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
18 Son of
man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, [even] her,
and the daughters of the famous nations, unto the nether parts of the
earth, with them that go down into the pit.
19 Whom dost thou pass in beauty? go down, and be thou laid with the uncircumcised.
20
They shall fall in the midst of [them that are] slain by the sword: she
is delivered to the sword: draw her and all her multitudes.
21 The
strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell with
them that help him: they are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain
by the sword.
22 Asshur [is] there and all her company: his graves [are] about him: all of them slain, fallen by the sword:
23
Whose graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is round
about her grave: all of them slain, fallen by the sword, which caused
terror in the land of the living.
24 There [is] Elam (IRAN) and all
her multitude round about her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the
sword, which are gone down uncircumcised into the nether parts of the
earth, which caused their terror in the land of the living; yet have
they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit.
25 They
have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her
graves [are] round about him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the
sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet
have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: he is put
in the midst of [them that be] slain.
26 There [is] Meshech,
Tubal,(RUSSIA) (GERMANY, TURKEY) and all her multitude: her graves [are]
round about him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though
they caused their terror in the land of the living.
27And they shall
not lie with the mighty [that are] fallen of the uncircumcised, which
are gone down to hell with their weapons of war: and they have laid
their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be upon their
bones, though [they were] the terror of the mighty in the land of the
living.
28 Yea, thou shalt be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised, and shalt lie with [them that are] slain with the sword.
29
There [is] Edom,(JORDAN) her kings, and all her princes, which with
their might are laid by [them that were] slain by the sword: they shall
lie with the uncircumcised, and with them that go down to the pit.
30
There [be] the princes of the north, all of them, and all the
Zidonians, which are gone down with the slain; with their terror they
are ashamed of their might; and they lie uncircumcised with [them that
be] slain by the sword, and bear their shame with them that go down to
the pit.
31 Pharaoh shall see them, and shall be comforted over all
his multitude, [even] Pharaoh and all his army slain by the sword, saith
the Lord GOD.
32 For I have caused my terror in the land of the
living: and he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised with
[them that are] slain with the sword, [even] Pharaoh and all his
multitude, saith the Lord GOD.

all of them handling swords:
5 Persia,(IRAN,IRAQ) Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:

7 Be thou prepared, and
prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto
thee, and be thou a guard unto them.
8 After many days thou shalt be
visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is
brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against
the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is
brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of
them.
9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a
cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with
thee.(RUSSIA-EGYPT AND MUSLIMS)
10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall
also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy
mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
11 And thou shalt
say,(RUSSIA-ARAB-MUSLIMS) I will go up to the land of unwalled

all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,

15 And
thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many
people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a
mighty army:
16 And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel,
as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I
will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I
shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.
EZEKIEL 39:11-22
11
And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog

saith the Lord GOD.
14 And they shall sever out men of continual

And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every

come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do
sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel,
that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.(OF THE RUSSIAN/ARAB/MUSLIM
ARMIES)
18 Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood
of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of
bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.
19 And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.
20 Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD.
21
And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall
see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon
them.
22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.

angel raise the sickle and come down on all the Middle East countries. I
saw Iran, Persia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, all of Georgia - Iraq, Syria,
Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, all of Asia Minor - full of blood. I saw blood
all over these countries. And I saw fire; Nuclear weapons used in many
of those countries. Smoke rising from everywhere. Sudden destruction –
men destroying one another. I heard these words:"Israel, Oh Israel, the
great judgment has come." The angel said, "The chosen, the church, the
remnant, shall be purified. The Spirit of God shall prepare the children
of God."I saw fires rising to heaven. The angel said: "This is the final
judgment. My church shall be purified, protected and ready for the
final day. Men will die from thirst. Water shall be scarce all over the
Middle East. Rivers shall dry up, and men will fight for water in those
countries."The angel showed me that the United Nations shall be broken
in pieces because of the crisis in the Middle East. There shall be no
more United Nations. The angel with the sickle shall reap the harvest.

Rabbi: Gog and Magog War Will Begin (and end) Wednesday Morning-O
mortal, turn your face toward Gog of the land of Magog, the chief prince
of Meshech and Tubal. Prophesy against him Ezekiel 38:2 (the israel
bible)Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz-Biblical News-October 22, 2024
Rabbi
Yitzchok Zilberstein, a prominent Orthodox rabbi in Israel, recently
gave a lesson to his students in Ramat Elchanan, Bnei Brak, in which he
said that the War of Gog and Magog would take place in its entirety in
the three hours before dawn on Wednesday, the Jewish holiday of Hoshanna
Rabba.Rabbi Zilberstein discussed the miracles happening to Israel
throughout the year-long war in his lecture. He noted that Hamas,
Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Iran have fired over 2,000 rockets into
Israel with relatively few casualties. The rabbi referred to a teaching
by Rabbi Obadiah ben Abraham of Bertinoro, a 15th-century Italian rabbi
known as the Bartenura. In his commentary on the Mishnah (Megillah
3:5), Bartenura predicted when the revival of the dead would occur and
when the War of Gog and Magog would begin. He based his interpretation
of the revival of the dead on Ezekiel’s vision of Dry Bones (Ezekiel
37:1-14), which is read in synagogues on Passover. Bartenura explains
that this corresponds to the dead’s actual resurrection, which will
occur on Passover.Bartenura writes that based on a later section of the
Book of Ezekiel (38:18-39:16) the war of Gog and Magog will begin in
Sukkot. This section is read in synagogues in Sukkoth.“Therefore,” he
said, “we must strive not to spoil things. In other words, everything
depends on us, on each and every one of us. This is a time of special
favor, and we must try not to spoil it, meaning to make every effort to
fulfill Hashem’s will, each person according to their ability.”It is to
be remembered that the war began on the last day of Sukkot last year
when Palestinian Hamas invaded Israel and massacred its citizens.Rabbi
Zilberstein then referred to a teaching by the 18th-century Jewish
scholar Rabbi Elijah ben Solomon Zalman, also known as the Vilna Gaon,
brought by the 16th-century Tzfat Kabbalist Rabbi Chaim Vital. They both
taught that the War of Gog and Magog would take its entirety during the
three hours before “Hanetz Hachama” (crack of dawn) of Hoshanah
Rabbah, the last day of the week-long holiday of Sukkot.“Whoever wants
to be saved should sit in the sukkah,” Rabbi Zilberstein taught. He
based this on a verse in Psalms.“He will shelter me in His pavilion
(sukkah) on an evil day, grant me the protection of His tent, raise me
high upon a rock. Now is my head high over my enemies roundabout; I
sacrifice in His tent with shouts of joy, singing and chanting a hymn to
Hashem. Psalms 27:5-6Indeed, throughout the past week, Israel has been
filled with the incongruous sight of Jews under the threat of rocket
attack choosing to sit in flimsy sukkot rather than reinforced bomb
shelters. Rabbi Zilberstein noted that his brother-in-law, Rabbi Chaim
Kanievsky, said these three hours are before sunrise on Hoshanah
Rabbah.Rabbi Elie Mischel, the Director of Education at Israel365,
wrote about the end-of-days battle of Gog and Magog in his recently
released book, The War Against the Bible: Ishmael, Esau and Israel at
the End Times. Rabbi Mischel noted that, like the War of Gog and Magog,
the war in the Middle East is reverberating around the globe.“This is a
war with global implications, pitting Jews and Christians, the people of
the Bible, against Muslims and secular progressives, who reject the
Bible and all that it stands for,” Rabbi Mischel wrote. Based on Jewish
sources, Rabbi Mischel identifies the leader of the Gog and Magog
coalition as Islamist Iran. He also identifies Iran as the fourth
kingdom of Ishmael and Edom, described in the Book of Daniel as working
together to persecute Israel at the end times. “Gog and Magog’s
motivations for attacking Israel are different from those of other
nations that have attacked Israel throughout history…Iran, Hamas and
Hezbollah are not afraid that Israel will conquer their lands, nor do
they seek economic benefits from attacking Israel. Hamas’ attacks have
only brought death and destruction upon the Gaza Strip. They are driven
by pure hatred of Israel, seeking only to murder and destroy.”“Gog and
his allies believe they can uproot the people of Israel and send them,
once again, into the darkness of exile.”Rabbi Mischel predicts that the
focus of the pre-Messiah war will shift, pitting the former allies Esau
and Ishmael against each other.“Not only will Gog and the people of
Ishmael suffer for their sins, but so will Edom, the Western nations
that support them,” Rabbi Mischel wrote. “Initially, the Edomites will
join the Ishmaelites in an alliance against Israel. But ultimately, the
Ishmaelites will turn on the Edomites, who will be forced to fight back.
““The Western nations trying so hard to appease the Ishmaelites will
inevitably have no choice but to battle the Islamic jihadists of Iran
and their allies and proxies. When the Ishmaelites go too far and
directly attack the West, the Edomites will be forced to declare war
against them. This will lead to the great war between Ishmael and the
West, when “every man’s sword will be against his brother.”Many are
concerned for the fate of Israelis as the hugely destructive War of Gog
and Magog is described in prophecy as being fought inside Israel. In
October 2015, Rabbi Shalom Berger, the spiritual leader of the
Mishkoltz sect of Hasidic Judaism, gave a Torah lesson at the end of the
holiday of Simchat Torah in which he made predictions regarding the
imminent arrival of the Messiah.“My heart tells me,” concluded the
rabbi, “that God has mercy on the nation of Israel and, despite what the
prophets have prophesied – that the Gog Magog War needs to be within
Jerusalem. Nevertheless, God sweetened this and is currently making it
in Syria. And the proof is that it is brought down in Sifri (Devarim 1)
that the gates of Jerusalem are destined to reach until Damascus.”“If
that is the case, instead of the war being in Jerusalem with the
inhabitants of Israel suffering from it, God widened Jerusalem so that
it reaches as far as Damascus so that the great war will be there, as we
saw when Russia entered with powerful forces into Syria.“All that
remains for us now is the task of being united among ourselves and to be
careful to stay away from arguments and speaking slander because the
Messiah is already here and hears everything…”In Jewish tradition, there
are two forms the final redemption can take: a redemption that is
“Be’itah” – i.e., one that is set at a predetermined time. The Talmud
(Tractate Avodah Zarah 9a) states that the world will last 6,000 years.
The Messiah must come at the end of the 6,000 years, even if mankind has
not prepared itself. The current (2023/2024) Hebrew year is 5785. By
this calculation, the start of the 6000th year would occur at nightfall
of 29 September 2239, and the end would occur at nightfall of 16
September 2240.The other form redemption can take is “Ahishena” – i.e.,
one that will come earlier than its set time. The Jews can bring
redemption early based on the merits of performing God’s
commandments. The main differences between the two forms of Redemption
are the time it will take and the amount of suffering the Jewish people
and the world, in general, will endure until it occurs. An “Ahishena”
Redemption is a Redemption that comes suddenly, miraculously as the
world has already reached its correct fulfillment and purpose.A “Be’ita”
Redemption is a Redemption that a long and arduous process precedes it,
full of suffering and tests for the Jewish people and for the world in
general, which concludes with the terrible death of about two-thirds of
the world, in addition to those among the Jewish people who, according
to God’s calculation, are not fit to be redeemed.

US Orthodox women face tough call at ballot box-Torn between two
candidates with diametrically opposed value systems – and sharing some
of each – young female voters debate whether support for the Jewish
state trumps all else-By Jackie Hajdenberg Today, 8:42 pm--NOV 2,24
JTA
— Just days out from the presidential election, Shalva Perlman doesn’t
know for sure how she will cast her ballot. The two issues on her mind:
protecting abortion rights, and supporting Israel. The issue that she
expects to prioritize in the voting booth: Israel.“I’m having difficulty
voting at all,” Perlman said. “I’ve been a registered Democrat for a
while, but I don’t know. It’s difficult to vote Democrat with everything
happening in the Middle East right now.”Perlman is a junior at Stern
College for Women at Yeshiva University, the flagship Orthodox
educational institution. And as an Orthodox Jew, she is part of a
constituency that has moved to the right and toward Trump in recent
years, driven in large part by attitudes on Israel.According to a recent
survey conducted by the YU Commentator, Yeshiva University’s student
newspaper, 84 percent of the 122 Stern College students surveyed say
they will vote for Donald Trump. That puts them in line with other
surveys of Orthodox voters, which predict large majorities for the
Republican candidate. But Perlman matches most of her Stern classmates in
another way: She is opposed to the Supreme Court stripping away federal
abortion protections — an issue that is at the center of Kamala Harris’
campaign. Nevertheless, she says Israel will probably drive her vote.“I
think my alliance is obviously staying with my country more than that
at this point,” Perlman said. She added, “It’s basically all about
Israel in my family. And that’s what we’re seeing in the election.”The
tension Perlman is articulating is what puts Stern’s population of
around 1,000 students in a somewhat unique spot: Like women their age, a
majority support abortion rights. But like their community, a majority
will be voting for Donald Trump, who has praised the 2022 Supreme Court
ruling even as he has said he would not sign a federal abortion
ban.Stern students told the Jewish Week that there’s little conflict on
campus when it comes to politics. While there are student clubs at YU
for both Democrats and Republicans, the survey found that support for
Trump is above 80% at both campuses. Israel tends to dominate the
political agenda at the school.“My vote is to help Israel,” said Layla, a
first-year student and first-time voter who declined to give her last
name, and who cast her ballot by mail in California. “Because I firmly
believe if I’m a Zionist, that’s something that I need to think about
when I’m voting. Yes, I’m an American, but I’m also Jewish.”Layla said
she doesn’t enjoy discussing politics and didn’t volunteer who she was
voting for. Her roommate Talia did: Trump.“I just think he’s good
towards Jews,” said Talia, who also declined to give her last name. “He
may not be a good person, but he’s good towards Jews.”Daphne Lazar
Price, the executive director of JOFA, the Jewish Orthodox Feminist
Alliance, told the Jewish Week these are the exact conversations she has
been having with young American women voters, whether they’re voting in
the United States or casting absentee ballots from abroad.“Young Modern
Orthodox women are incredibly worried about Israel and who would be the
better candidate to help ensure its safety in the immediate and in the
long term,” Lazar Price said in an email. “That said, young Modern
Orthodox women are also worried about access to comprehensive
reproductive health care [abortion, birth control and IVF] as the
domestic signature issue.”Many Jewish women in the United States,
including some who are Modern Orthodox, have taken up reproductive
rights as a key issue, with some suing their home states on religious
grounds to try to regain access to abortion. (American Jews favor
abortion rights, more than any other religious group, according to
public polling. And traditional Jewish law permits, and even requires,
abortion in some circumstances.)“They recognize the weightiness of each
of their votes because the stakes in this next set of elections are so
high,” Lazar Price added, speaking of young women voters. “They are also
rightfully concerned about the rise of antisemitism and how they
perceive each candidate will staunch or fuel those flames.”Some Harris
supporters at Stern don’t see any contradiction between their Orthodox
identity and their vote. For Selma Spinner, a political science student
and co-president of the Yeshiva University Democrats, the party’s values
and Jewish values go hand in hand.“I try to think about everything I do
as a Torah Jew, as a Modern Orthodox student,” Spinner said. “And
everything I do and believe is centered around that. I find that I
identify a lot more with — I would even venture to use the word,
‘humanity,’ of the Democratic Party, and in this specific election, of
Kamala Harris. And I find that I as a Jew can identify more not only
with her policies but also with her rhetoric.”But others said there is a
tension between liberalism and Orthodoxy — and that they’re choosing
the former at the ballot box.“The liberal agenda in general goes against
a lot of traditional Jewish values,” said Talia Isaac, a sophomore from
Teaneck, New Jersey, who is majoring in political science and cast her
vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz by mail. “So Orthodox Jews may be
less likely to vote for a candidate who believes in expanding access to
reproductive healthcare, who believes in expanding access to
gender-affirming healthcare, things like that.”Isaac said she doesn’t
defer to others when she thinks about the issues that determine her
vote. In addition to reproductive rights and Israel, she has worked with
multiple organizations that focus on obtaining legal assistance for
survivors of sexual assault.“The only aspect of my Judaism that I
consider when I vote might have to do slightly with my protections and
my rights as a Jewish citizen of America,” Isaac said. “I do want to
make sure that I’m protected.”She added, “For the most part, I find that
the reasons I vote are because I, for my own values and my own reasons,
align with the policies and the values of a certain candidate. And it
really has very little to do with my Jewish identity, with the Torah,
with halacha [Jewish law]. I just feel like I have my own personal code
of ethics and my own personal values.”
Joint US-Egypt archaeology
team unearths 4,000-year-old tomb in Luxor-Coffins for men, women and
children found inside necropolis, suggesting it was a family tomb-By AP
and ToI Staff Today, 8:12 pm-NOV 2,24
CAIRO — Archeologists from
Egypt and the United States unearthed an ancient tomb with 11 sealed
burials near the famed city of Luxor, Egyptian authorities said in a
statement Friday.Egypt’s Tourism and Antiquities Ministry said that the
tomb, which dates back to the Middle Kingdom (1938 BCE-1630 BCE), was
found in the South Asasif necropolis, next to the Temple of Hatshepsut
on the Nile’s West Bank in Luxor. The joint Egyptian-American mission
excavating the necropolis found coffins for men, women and children,
suggesting that it was a family tomb used for generations during the
12th Dynasty and the beginning of the 13th Dynasty, said Mohamed Ismail
Khaled, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in
Egypt. He said ancient floods destroyed most of the burials’ wooden
coffins and linen wrappings. However, some items such as jewelry in
women’s burials were found intact, including a finely crafted necklace
with 30 amethyst beads and two cylindrical agate beads framing a
hippo-head amulet, according to the statement.Catherine Blakeney, chief
American archeologist with the mission, said they found two copper
mirrors, one with a lotus-shaped handle, and the second with a unique
design of Hathor, goddess of the sky, women, fertility and love in
ancient Egypt. The discovery came as Egypt has doubled efforts to attract
more tourists, a significant source of foreign currency for the
cash-strapped North African country, which depends heavily on tourism to
Egypt’s rich archeological sites. The tourism sector is crucial to the
country, and at its peak in 2010 employed around 12 percent of the
Egyptian workforce before the political unrest and violence that struck
the country in 2011, during the Arab Spring. The COVID-19 pandemic in
2020 further decimated the industry, and the country has struggled to
get back to pre-COVID tourism levels. The government hopes that increased
spending into archaeology and research will bring more excitement and
coverage to Egypt’s vast wealth of historical sites, and bring the
tourists back with it.Last month, the Grand Egyptian Museum, a mega
project near the famed Giza Pyramids, opened 12 halls exhibiting
Pharaonic artifacts for visitors as a trial ahead of the yet-unannounced
official opening.
Unusual north Lebanon raid said to take a mere

Israel-By ToI Staff and Emanuel Fabian-Today, 2:48 pm-NOV 3,24
New
alleged details emerged on Sunday about an Israeli naval raid in
northern Lebanon in which commandos captured a Hezbollah operative over
the weekend, in a report by a publication affiliated with the
Iran-backed terror group.According to the Al-Akhbar report, operatives
from the Navy’s Shayetet 13 commando unit were disguised as Lebanese
security forces during the unusual raid in Batroun, south of Tripoli,
some 140 kilometers (87 miles) north of Israel’s maritime border with
Lebanon. While the Israeli military has attacked northern Lebanon via
airstrikes, its ground forces have been operating only in the country’s
south. The late Friday raid lasted a mere four minutes and involved some
20 operatives, along with several unidentified civilians, the report
said, adding that some Israeli special forces had likely been in the
area for reconnaissance and surveillance before the operation. While
surveillance footage from a nearby building apparently captured part of
the Israeli commando raid, Al-Akhbar reported that recordings were
deleted from the residential building from which the Hezbollah
operative, Imad Amhaz, was captured. The report also said that Lebanese
investigators believe a young man riding a bicycle seen in the widely
circulated footage of the operation was part of the Israeli commando
unit. The Hezbollah-affiliated outlet cast doubt on the Israel Defense
Forces’ assertion that Amhaz is a “significant source of knowledge” in
the terror group’s naval force. The IDF said Amhaz was taken to Israel to
be questioned by the Military Intelligence Directorate’s Unit 504 —
which specializes in HUMINT, or human intelligence — on Hezbollah’s
naval operations. The Al-Akhbar report on Sunday also reiterated earlier
accusations in Lebanese media that the German Navy operating within UN
peacekeeping forces in the area had assisted with the Israeli
raid.UNIFIL, the United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon, denied
involvement in the operation, with an unnamed deputy spokesperson
telling the Saudi channel Asharq News on Saturday that the organization
“has no involvement in facilitating any kidnapping or any other
violation of Lebanese sovereignty.”The Friday raid came as Israel
pressed on with its military campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon. The
operation aims to allow the fade return of some 60,000 displaced
residents of northern Israel who were evacuated from their homes near
the Lebanon border shortly after Hamas’s October 7, 2023, onslaught,
amid fears Hezbollah would carry out a similar attack and persistent
rocket fire by the terror group. After warning for nearly a year that it
would not tolerate the ongoing attacks, Israel launched a major
operation against Hezbollah in September, eliminating much of its
leadership and crippling some of its fighting capabilities. In October,
it launched a ground offensive in Lebanon’s south to clear the border
area of terror infrastructure it said was to be used in an October
7-style attack on northern communities.
Homefront Command eases

Saturday; helicopter downs drone south of Haifa-Footage shows chopper

Over
130 rockets were fired at northern Israel from Lebanon throughout
Saturday, the military said, with sirens repeatedly sending people
rushing to shelters.Meanwhile, 10 drones targeted the country — six from
Lebanon, three from Iraq and one whose origin was unclear. Seven drones
were intercepted by the military.A rocket attack early in the morning
in central Israel wounded 11 people after one of three rockets struck a
home in Tira. The IDF said it was investigating the failure to intercept
the rocket. An Israel Air Force attack helicopter was filmed
intercepting a Hezbollah drone in the Binyamina area, south of Haifa,
after the drone set off sirens in area communities.Footage posted to
social media showed the moment the drone was shot down.Attack drones
have emerged as one of the most potent threats to Israel’s home front
since the beginning of the year.According to fresh data from the Israel
Defense Forces, some 1,300 drones have been launched at Israel since the
start of the war in Gaza last year, from all fronts — Lebanon, Gaza,
Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and Iran. The IDF said that 231 of the drones struck
Israel, causing causalities and damage in some cases (including drones
that exploded in open areas). Some 80 percent of drones have been
intercepted, according to the military.Footage shows the moment an IAF

(Mannie) Fabian (@manniefabian) November 2, 2024-Despite multiple
attacks throughout the day, the IDF Homefront Command said it was easing
restrictions in several areas in northern Israel, following a fresh
assessment. As part of the changes, the Command adjusted the activity
scale in the Lower Galilee and southern Golan Heights from “partial
activity” to “full activity,” meaning that gatherings of up to 2,000
people are permitted. There are no changes, however, to other areas in
the country. The IDF says it is increasing its efforts against
Hezbollah’s aerial force, known as Unit 127, which is responsible for
drone attacks on Israel. So far, the commander of the unit has been
killed, along with other officers. In all, around 10% of the unit’s
members have been killed or wounded, according to the IDF.Hezbollah’s
aerial forces are currently left with some 30% of the hundreds of drones
they had before the war, according to IDF assessments. The military says
it has struck 54 sites used by the aerial forces to store drones, 24
sites used to store cruise missiles, eight sites where drones and cruise
missiles were assembled, six underground sites, and seven weapon
depots.Since October 8, Hezbollah-led forces have attacked Israeli
communities and military posts along the border on a near-daily basis,
with the terror group saying it is doing so to support Gaza amid the war
there. Some 60,000 residents were evacuated from northern towns on the
Lebanon border shortly after Hamas’s October 7 onslaught, amid fears
Hezbollah would carry out a similar attack, and increasing rocket fire
by the terror group. The attacks on northern Israel since October 2023
have resulted in the deaths of 39 civilians. In addition, 61 IDF
soldiers and reservists have died in cross-border skirmishes and in the
ensuing ground operation launched in southern Lebanon in late
September. Two soldiers have been killed in a drone attack from Iraq, and
there have also been several attacks from Syria, without any
injuries. The IDF estimates that more than 2,000 Hezbollah operatives
have been killed during the ongoing ground offensive in southern
Lebanon.Since the start of the conflict with Hezbollah on October 8, a
day after Hamas launched its terror onslaught, nearly 3,000 Hezbollah
members have been killed, according to IDF assessments.Around 100
members of other terror groups, along with hundreds of civilians, have
also been reported killed in Lebanon.Hezbollah has named 516 members who
have been killed by Israel amid the fighting, mostly in Lebanon but
some also in Syria. These numbers have not been consistently updated
since Israel began a new offensive against Hezbollah in September.

an unusual operation both in its nature and location deep inside the
country.Lebanese media reported that Israeli special forces arrived from
the sea and raided a chalet on the coast of Batroun, south of Tripoli,
and took one person with them before leaving the area in speedboats. The
raid took place some 140 kilometers (87 miles) north of Israel’s
maritime border with Lebanon. The Israel Defense Forces later confirmed
that the Navy’s Shayetet 13 commando unit had carried out the
operation. The Hezbollah operative, named in media reports as Imad Amhaz,
was considered by the IDF to be a “significant source of knowledge” in
the terror group’s naval force. He was taken to Israel to be questioned
by the Military Intelligence Directorate’s Unit 504 — which specializes
in HUMINT, or human intelligence — on Hezbollah’s naval
operations.Speaking to the local Al Jadeed News station, Ali Hamie,
Lebanon’s Minister of Public Works and Transport, claimed that Amhaz was
a captain of civilian ships and was studying at a civilian naval
institute. Images posted to social media showed Amhaz in what appeared
to be a navy uniform. While the IDF has attacked northern Lebanon via
airstrikes, its ground forces have been operating in the country’s
south, making the raid noteworthy.Lebanese journalist Hasan Illaik, who
first reported on the raid, cited anonymous Lebanese military officials
as saying the operation was apparently carried out in coordination with
the German Navy operating within UNIFIL forces, to prevent the Lebanese
Navy from interfering.UNIFIL, the United Nations peacekeeping force in
Lebanon, denied involvement in the operation, with an unnamed deputy
spokesperson telling the Saudi channel Asharq News that the organization
“has no involvement in facilitating any kidnapping or any other
violation of Lebanese sovereignty.”The spokesman added that the
dissemination of “misleading information and unfounded rumors is
irresponsible and puts peacekeeping forces at risk,” according to
Asharq.Meanwhile, the IDF said Saturday it estimates that some 2,000
Hezbollah operatives have been killed by ground troops and in airstrikes
since the start of the ground offensive in southern Lebanon a month
ago.Since the start of the conflict with Hezbollah on October 8, 2023 a
day after Hamas launched its terror onslaught, nearly 3,000 Hezbollah
members have been killed, according to IDF assessments. The Israel Air
Force continued to pound Lebanon on Friday, with the IDF releasing
footage of fighter jets striking Hezbollah rocket launchers used earlier
in the day in a barrage on central Israel.Three rockets were launched
in the Hezbollah attack, one of which struck a home in Tira, wounding 11
people.Later in the day, a barrage of some 30 rockets was fired from
Lebanon at the Galilee, with the IDF saying most of the rockets were
shot down by air defenses. There were no reports of injuries from the
attack.Lebanese media later reported an Israeli airstrike in Beirut’s
southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold known as Dahiyeh, but there was
no immediate comment from the IDF on the matter.Since October 8,
Hezbollah-led forces have attacked Israeli communities and military
posts along the border on a near-daily basis, with the group saying it
is doing so to support Gaza amid the war there. Some 60,000 residents
were evacuated from northern towns on the Lebanon border shortly after
Hamas’s October 7 onslaught, amid fears Hezbollah would carry out a
similar attack, and increasing rocket fire by the terror group. After
warning for nearly a year that it would not tolerate the ongoing
attacks, Israel launched a major operation against Hezbollah in
September, decimating much of its leadership and crippling some of its
fighting capabilities. In October, it launched a ground offensive in
Lebanon’s south to clear the border area of terror infrastructure it
said was to be used in an October 7-style attack on northern
communities. The attacks on northern Israel since October 2023 have
resulted in the deaths of 39 civilians. In addition, 61 IDF soldiers and
reservists have died in cross-border skirmishes and in the ensuing
ground operation launched in southern Lebanon in late September. Two
soldiers have been killed in a drone attack from Iraq, and there have
also been several attacks from Syria, without any injuries. The IDF
estimates that more than 2,000 Hezbollah operatives have been killed in
the conflict. Around 100 members of other terror groups, along with
hundreds of civilians, have also been reported killed in Lebanon.
Hezbollah has named 516 members who have been killed by Israel amid the
fighting, mostly in Lebanon but some also in Syria. These numbers have
not been consistently updated since Israel began a new offensive against
Hezbollah in September.
Hamas now accepts Israel killed Muhammad
Deif, has arrested 2 people, sources tell paper-Tests of mangled
remains produced inconclusive results, but after months without word
from military chief, terror group now acknowledges he did not survive,
Asharq al-Awsat reports-By ToI Staff Today, 4:38 pm-NOV 2,24
Finally
acknowledging terror leader Muhammad Deif was killed in a July
airstrike in Gaza, Hamas has interrogated two people on suspicion that
they led Israel to him, Asharq al-Awsat reported Saturday.Hamas sources
cited by the London-based, Saudi-owned newspaper said Hamas’s leadership
had taken time to confirm the matter as communication with the shadowy
terror chief had been limited prior to the July 13 strike. But it
concluded that Deif was dead after not hearing from him for some
time.Parts of a disfigured body found at the site days after the strike
had been tested and found to likely belong to Deif, but their state had
made it impossible to reach a definitive result, the report said. Due to
the disfigurement, Deif’s “family and associates” had remained
unconvinced that it was his body, according to Asharq al-Awsat.Israel
had targeted Deif and Hamas’s Khan Younis Brigade chief Rafa’a Salameh
in the airstrike on a Hamas compound that killed dozens in southern
Gaza’s Khan Younis. The IDF confirmed Salameh’s death a day later, and
Deif’s on August 1. Hamas has so far officially denied the killing of
Deif, who led the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the terror group’s
military wing.Asharq al-Awsat said one of the men arrested over Deif’s
killing was one of Deif’s couriers, as was previously reported by Al
Arabiya, which said the terror group suspected he had tipped off Israeli
security forces. The paper said that the results of the investigation
have not been disclosed.Deif, who was 58, had commanded the Brigades for
over two decades, and had long been one of the terror figures most
wanted by Israel. It was Israel’s eighth attempt to eliminate Deif, who
was key to Hamas’s transformation from a small terror group into a
paramilitary force. Deif managed to evade and survive multiple attempts
on his life between 2001 and 2021, though he was seriously injured in
two of them, and his ability to frustrate Israel’s formidable security
apparatuses for so long had made him something of a mythical figure for
Palestinians as well as Israelis.Deif, along with Hamas’s Gaza leader
Yahya Sinwar, was an architect of Hamas’s October 7 massacre in southern
Israel, when thousands of terrorists broke through the border and
killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians, while taking 251 people hostage
to Gaza. He had topped Israel’s most-wanted list since 1995 for his
involvement in the planning and execution of a large number of terror
attacks, including many bus bombings in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Eleven people were injured in the central Arab
town of Tira on Saturday in an overnight rocket attack by Hezbollah, as
Israel struck the Iran-backed terror group in Lebanon, killing dozens of
people, including two senior Hezbollah members. The Magen David Adom
ambulance service said three people sustained moderate injuries and
eight were lightly injured by shrapnel and glass shards as one of three
rockets launched by Hezbollah directly struck a home in Tira.Seven
others were treated for acute anxiety, MDA added.Three rockets were
launched in the attack triggering sirens in central Israel, shortly
before 2:30 a.m., according to the Israel Defense Forces. The IDF said
the other two rockets were apparently successfully intercepted by air
defenses.Hezbollah took responsibility for the attack, claiming it had
“fired a salvo of rockets at the Glilot base” outside Tel Aviv, where
the IDF’s 8200 intelligence unit is headquartered — some 20 kilometers
(12 miles) southwest of Tira. The Ynet news site cited Tira resident
Ibrahim Qassem as saying there were just 40 seconds between the siren
and the explosion. According to the IDF Home Front, Tira residents
should have 90 seconds alert time.Qassem said the blast damaged
“everything, the doors, the windows, the car,” despite his living “a
significant distance away” from the site of the explosion, according to
Ynet.Another resident, Tamer Abdelhay, told Walla that “in 90% of the
homes there is no safe room or shelter, so there is nowhere to escape
to… During the sirens, you can only pray.”Another 20 rockets were fired
from Lebanon at northern Israel in the morning, setting off sirens in
the Galilee, Haifa Bay area, and Golan Heights. Some of the rockets were
intercepted and others struck open areas. There were no reports of
injuries or major damage. Also Saturday, several drones launched from
Lebanon also set off sirens in the Haifa area.According to the IDF, one
of the drones was successfully shot down by the Israeli Air Force.

zone near Nahariya. There were no reports of injuries in the

November 2, 2024-Three more drones launched at Israel from Iraq were
shot down by Israeli air defenses over the Red Sea on Saturday,
according to the military. The drones were launched “from the east,” a
term the IDF uses to describe attacks from Iraq. The Iran-backed Islamic
Resistance in Iraq took responsibility for launching them, claiming to
have targeted sites in Eilat. No sirens sounded in Eilat as the drones
were shot down before entering Israeli airspace.Throughout October
alone, more than 100 drones were launched at Israel, mostly from Lebanon
and Iraq.Hezbollah commanders killed.Meanwhile, Lebanon’s health
ministry said 52 people had been killed in Israeli strikes in the
country’s east on Friday — attacks for which the Israeli army had not
issued evacuation warnings, as it often does.Without differentiating
between civilians and combatants, the ministry reported that “52 people
killed and 72 wounded in an updated toll of today’s Israeli enemy
strikes on the Baalbek-Hermel region.”Twelve of the victims were killed
in the village of Amhaz, it said, while nine others were killed in Yunin
and eight in Bednayel. The IDF said its airstrikes in the Tyre area on
Friday had killed Moein Musa Izz al-Din, the commander of Hezbollah’s
coastal regional unit, and Hassan Majed Diab, the commander of the
unit’s artillery array.Diab was responsible for a rocket barrage on the
Haifa Bay area on Thursday, which killed a mother and son, along with
more than 400 other rockets in the past month, according to the IDF.Ali
Hamieh, Lebanon’s Hezbollah-affiliated transport minister, said an
Israeli strike near a border crossing between northeast Lebanon and
Syria forced the crossing to shut after it had been partly reopened. The
strike hit the same location within Syria, just past the Syrian border
installation, as an Israeli bombardment last month that closed the
crossing, Hamieh said. It had been partly reopened for cars but not
trucks, and was now closed again.Israel accuses Hezbollah of smuggling
Iranian arms into Lebanon via civilian border crossings with
Syria.Hundreds of thousands of people, mainly Syrians, have fled Lebanon
for Syria since Israel stepped up its strikes in September. The strikes
came as Israeli troops continued ground operations against Hezbollah in
southern Lebanon. The IDF said soldiers with the 91st and 146th
divisions raided Hezbollah sites, seized weapons, and directed
airstrikes on terror operatives during operations in the past day.On
Friday, during a tour of southern Lebanon, an army vehicle with the
chief of the IDF Northern Command, Maj. Gen. Ori Gordin, and chief of
the Central Command, Maj.Gen. Avi Bluth, overturned.Gordin was slightly
hurt in the incident, and after a brief visit to a hospital, returned to
duty, the IDF said.Since October 8, Hezbollah-led forces have attacked
Israeli communities and military posts along the border on a near-daily
basis, with the group saying it is doing so to support Gaza amid the war
there. Some 60,000 residents were evacuated from northern towns on the

Khamenei threatens Israel and US with ‘a crushing
response’ to Israel’s airstrikes-Iran’s leader makes harshest threats
yet, sending currency to new low; IRGC general says reprisal for Israeli
attack that followed Iran’s missile barrage will be ‘wise, powerful’By
AP and ToI Staff Today, 12:20 pm-NOV 2,24
Iran’s supreme leader
on Saturday threatened Israel and the US with “a crushing response” over
attacks on Iran and its allies.Ayatollah Ali Khamenei spoke as Iranian
officials are increasingly threatening to launch yet another strike
against Israel after its October 26 attack on the Islamic Republic that
targeted military bases and facilities and that Iran said killed at
least five people.Israel’s retaliatory strikes on Iranian military
facilities came weeks after the October 1 attack, in which Iran launched
200 ballistic missiles at Israel, sending most of the population
rushing to bomb shelters and safe rooms, causing relatively minor damage
to military bases and some residential areas, and killing a Palestinian
man in the West Bank.Any further attacks from either side could engulf
the wider Middle East, already teetering over the Israel-Hamas war in
the Gaza Strip and Israel’s ground operation of Lebanon, into a wider
regional conflict just ahead of the US presidential election this
Tuesday.“The enemies, whether the Zionist regime or the United States of
America, will definitely receive a crushing response to what they are
doing to Iran and the Iranian nation and to the resistance front,”
Khamenei said in video released by Iranian state media. The supreme
leader did not elaborate on the timing of the threatened attack, nor the
scope. The US military operates throughout the Middle East, with some
troops now manning a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or THAAD,
battery in Israel. The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier likely is in
the Arabian Sea, while Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said
Friday that more destroyers, fighter squadrons, tankers and B-52
long-range bombers would be coming to the region to deter Iran and its
terror allies. The 85-year-old Khamenei had struck a more cautious
approach in earlier remarks, saying officials would weigh Iran’s
response and that Israel’s attack “should not be exaggerated nor
downplayed.”But efforts by Iran to downplay the attack faltered as
satellite photos analyzed by The Associated Press showed attacks damaged
military bases near Tehran linked to the country’s ballistic missile
program, as well as damage at a Revolutionary Guard base used in
satellite launches.Iran’s terror proxies, called the “Axis of
Resistance” by Tehran, also have been severely hurt by ongoing Israeli
attacks, particularly Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Iran has long used those groups as both an asymmetrical way to attack
Israel and as a shield against a direct assault. Some analysts believe
those groups want Iran to do more to back them militarily.Israel
launched a war on Hamas in Gaza after the October 7, 2023 massacre that
killed some 1,200 people and took another 251 hostages. And it recently
stepped up strikes on Hezbollah, which began launching rockets at Israel
a day after the Hamas onslaught. Israel has vowed to push Hezbollah
away from the border and allow tens of thousands of evacuees to return
to their homes in northern Israel.Iran, which directly attacked Israel
with missiles and drones for the first time in April, has been dealing
with its own problems at home, as its economy struggles under the weight
of international sanctions and it has faced years of widespread,
multiple protests. After Khamenei’s speech, the Iranian rial fell to
691,500 against the dollar, near an all-time low. It had been 32,000
rials to the dollar when Tehran reached its 2015 nuclear deal with world
powers.Gen. Mohammad Ali Naini, a spokesman for Iran’s paramilitary
Revolutionary Guard which controls the ballistic missiles needed to
target Israel, gave an interview published by the semiofficial Fars news
agency just before Khamenei’s remarks were released. In it, he warned
Iran’s response “will be wise, powerful and beyond the enemy’s
comprehension.”“The leaders of the Zionist regime should look out from
the windows of their bedrooms and protect their criminal pilots within
their small territory,” he warned. Israeli air force pilots appear to
have used air-launched ballistic missiles in the October 26 attack.Iran
has long threatened Israel with destruction and called to wipe out the
Jewish State.Khamenei on Saturday met with university students to mark
Students Day, which commemorates a November 4, 1978, incident in which
Iranian soldiers opened fire on students protesting the rule of the shah
at Tehran University. The shooting killed and wounded several students
and further escalated the tensions consuming Iran at the time that
eventually led to the shah fleeing the country and the 1979 Islamic
Revolution-The crowd offered a raucous welcome to Khamenei, chanting:
“The blood in our veins is a gift to our leader!” Some also made a hand
gesture — similar to a “timeout” signal — given by the slain Hezbollah
leader Hassan Nasrallah in 2020 in a speech in which he threatened that
American troops who arrived in the Mideast standing up would “return in
coffins” horizontally.Iran will mark the 45th anniversary of the US
Embassy hostage crisis this Sunday, following the Persian calendar. The
November 4, 1979, storming of the embassy by Islamist students led to
the 444-day crisis, which cemented the decades-long enmity between
Tehran and Washington that persists today.
Analysis-Iran fears
Trump win would bring Israeli strikes on nuclear sites, Western
sanctions-Tehran said to believe that if reelected, the former US
president would exert the utmost pressure on Khamenei to cave to nuclear
containment deal on Washington and Israel’s terms-By Reuters and ToI
Staff Today, 11:53 am-NOV 3,24
DUBAI (Reuters) — Iran’s
leadership and allies are bracing for what they would regard as a
dreadful outcome of the imminent US presidential election: a return to
power of Donald Trump.Opinion polls suggest that Republican Trump and
Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris remain locked in a close
contest. But Iranian leaders and their regional allies in Lebanon, Iraq,
and Yemen are concerned that Trump could well triumph on November 5 and
this could spell more trouble for them.Iran’s main concern is the
potential for Trump to empower Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to
strike Iran’s nuclear sites, conduct targeted assassinations, and
reimpose his “maximum pressure policy” through heightened sanctions on
its oil industry, according to Iranian, Arab and Western officials. They
anticipate that Trump, who was president in 2017-21, will exert the
utmost pressure on Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to cave
in by accepting a nuclear containment deal on terms set by himself and
Israel. This potential change in US leadership could have far-reaching
implications for the Middle East balance of power and might reshape
Iran’s foreign policy and economic prospects.Iran and its proxies have
long threatened Israel with destruction and called to wipe out the
Jewish state.Analysts argue that whether Harris or Trump leads the next
US administration, Iran will lack the leverage it once held — largely
due to Israel’s year-old military campaign aimed at degrading the
Islamic Republic’s armed proxies, including the terror groups Hamas in
Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon. However, Trump’s stance is perceived as
more detrimental to Iran due to his more automatic support for Israel,
they added.“Trump will either put very tough conditions on Iran or let
Israel carry out targeted strikes on its nuclear facilities. He is fully
endorsing a military action against Iran,” Abdelaziz al-Sagher, head of
the Gulf Research Center think tank, said.“It’s Netanyahu’s dream day
to have Trump back in the White House,” he told Reuters.Poison chalice? A
senior Iranian official who declined to be named told Reuters Tehran
was “prepared for all scenarios. We have [for decades] consistently
found ways to export oil, bypassing harsh US sanctions… and have
strengthened our ties with the rest of the world no matter who was in
the White House.”But another Iranian official said a Trump victory would
be “a nightmare. He will raise pressure on Iran to please Israel… [and]
make sure oil sanctions are fully enforced. If so, [our] establishment
will be economically paralyzed.”In an election speech in October, Trump
stated his unwillingness to go to war with Iran but said Israel should
“hit the Iranian nuclear first and worry about the rest later,” in
response to Iran’s massive ballistic missile attack on Israel on October
1. Iran launched some 200 ballistic missiles at Israel, sending most of
the population rushing to bomb shelters and safe rooms. The attack
caused relatively minor damage to military bases and some residential
areas, and killed a Palestinian man in the West Bank.Israel retaliated
with airstrikes on Iranian military targets, especially missile
production sites and long-range air defense systems, on October
26.Khamenei on Saturday threatened Israel and the US with “a crushing
response” to attacks on Iran and its allies. “The enemies, whether the
Zionist regime or the United States of America, will definitely receive a
crushing response to what they are doing to Iran and the Iranian nation
and to the resistance front,” Khamenei said in video released by
Iranian state media.Iran’s choices are limited going forward, analysts
say.“The reality is: Trump is going to support Netanyahu and give him
the green light to do whatever he wants,” said Hassan Hassan, an author
and researcher on Islamic groups. “Trump is much worse [than Harris] for
Iran.”Hassan noted that Washington has delegated a substantial share of
responsibility to Israel in the conflict with Iran and its proxies,
with Israel leading the way. “The US is involved enough in that it’s
backing Israel, maybe more so than before.“This time it’s just things
are really bad for Iran. Iran is seen as a problem by both Republicans
and Democrats.”During her campaign, Harris called Iran a “dangerous” and
“destabilizing” force in the Middle East and said the US was committed
to Israel’s security. She said the US would work with allies to disrupt
Iran’s “aggressive behavior.”But Trump’s reelection would be a “poisoned
chalice” for Khamenei, according to two regional officials. If he were
to reinstate stringent sanctions, Khamenei may be forced to negotiate
and accept a nuclear pact more favorable to US and Israeli terms to
preserve theocratic rule in Iran, which is facing growing foreign
pressure and has been buffeted by bouts of mass protest at home in
recent years.A US-Saudi defense pact tied to Riyadh’s establishing
diplomatic relations with Israel, now in its final negotiating stages,
poses a significant challenge to Khamenei too. This alliance threatens to
shift the regional balance of power by creating a more unified front
against Iran, impacting its geopolitical standing and strategy in the
Middle East.New architecture-Hassan said Israel’s recent retaliatory
attacks on Iran and strikes on the leadership of terror proxies Hamas
and Hezbollah allies have been widely perceived as a significant
success. They offered insights into what a limited strike on Iran might
look like, setting a precedent and altering assumptions that military
action on Iran would inevitably spark a wider Middle East war.A senior
Arab security official said that Tehran could “no longer brandish its
influence through its armed proxies” in the wake of Israel’s deadly
strikes on Hezbollah and Hamas leaders. For its own part, Iran has every
reason to fear another Trump term.It was Trump who in 2018 unilaterally
pulled the US out of Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers and
ordered the killing of Qassem Soleimani, Khamenei’s right-hand man and
mastermind of overseas attacks on US and allied interests.Trump also
imposed punitive sanctions targeting Iran’s oil export revenues and
international banking transactions, which led to extreme economic
hardship and exacerbated public discontent in the Islamic Republic. He
frequently said during his presidential campaign that US President Joe
Biden’s policy of not rigorously enforcing oil export sanctions has
weakened Washington and emboldened Tehran, allowing it to sell oil,
accumulate cash, and expand its nuclear pursuits and influence through
armed militias. In March, Trump told the Israel Hayom newspaper in an
interview that Iran could have a nuclear weapon in 35 days and that
Israel — which deems Iran’s nuclear activity an existential threat — was
in a “very treacherous and dangerous neighborhood.”An Arab government
adviser noted that Tehran recognizes there is a “new architecture in the
making,” but also that Trump, despite his tough rhetoric, realizes
there is no alternative to a deal with Iran given its accelerated
uranium enrichment program.“Trump might aim for a new nuclear agreement,
he could say I tore up the 2015 agreement because it was incomplete and
replace it with a long-lasting agreement, touting it to ‘make America
great again’ and preserve US interests,” the adviser said.As the 2015
deal has eroded over the years, Iran has escalated the level of fissile
purity in enriched uranium, cutting the time it would need to build an
atom bomb if it chose to, though it denies wanting to.Iran Online, a
state-run news website, stated that when Trump left office, Iran was
capping enrichment at 3.67 percent under the deal, far below the 90% of
weapons-grade uranium. Now, Iran has “enriched uranium to 60% with IR-6
advanced centrifuges” and could achieve nuclear weapons capability
“within a few weeks… Completing the nuclear deterrence cycle is Iran’s
greatest trump card against Trump,” it said.Arab and Western officials
warn that the more Iran hints it is nearing the development of an atomic
bomb, the more it incites the need for Israel to strike.“If Trump
reassumes power, he will support Israeli plans to strike Iranian nuclear
facilities,” a Western official said.
IDF reveals commandos
captured man in Syria gathering intel on border for Iran-Elite forces
entered Syrian territory in recent months and snatched Ali Suleiman
al-Asi, who told interrogators he was told to monitor troop movements
along border, says military-By Emanuel Fabian-Today, 8:48 pm-NOV 3,24
Israeli
commandos recently carried out a raid in southern Syria where they
captured a Syrian man who was allegedly carrying out surveillance
operations on the border on behalf of Iran, the IDF revealed Sunday in a
rare acknowledgment of a ground operation in its northeastern
neighbor.According to the Israel Defense Forces, the raid in Syria was
carried out in recent months by the Egoz commando unit, along with field
interrogators of the Intelligence Directorate’s Unit 504.The commandos
captured Ali Suleiman al-Asi, a Syrian man who lived in the village of
Saida, in the Daraa Governorate. The IDF said that al-Asi worked on
behalf of Iran, and was involved in collecting intelligence on the
Israeli military’s operations along the Syrian border “for future terror
activity.”The military was “closely monitoring” al-Asi before he was
captured and taken to Israel for questioning. His arrest has “prevented
and disrupted a future attack and led to the exposure of the modus
operandi of Iranian entities on the Golan Heights front,” the IDF
said. The IDF released footage of the mission and also from al-Asi’s
interrogation, during which he said that he was approached by a man who
told him: “Your area is good, strategic, we can get something from
this.” Al-Asi said that the man was “linked to Iran.”The detained Syrian
man told Israeli interrogators that he was instructed by the
Iranian-linked source to “just observe the borders,” while under the
guise of Syria’s military intelligence, and pass on information on
Israeli patrols. He told interrogators that, among other things, he
passed on information about troop and tank movements on the Israeli side
of the border.Israel has been carrying out airstrikes inside Syria
since the outbreak of that country’s civil war in 2011, mainly targeting
attempts to transfer weapons to the Iran-backed Lebanese Hezbollah
terror group or to keep Iranian fighters themselves from gaining a
foothold near Israel’s border. In July, Israeli special forces allegedly
carried out a raid on an Iranian weapons facility in the Masyaf area in
Syria, which has long been associated with the manufacture of chemical
weapons and precision missiles by the Syrian regime and Iranian
forces. The raid was said to have been carried out alongside Israeli air
strikes on military facilities in the area that reportedly killed at
least 14 people and wounded 43.Local Syrian media reported at the time
that the strikes hit the area surrounding the Scientific Studies and
Research Center, known as CERS or SSRC, which according to Israel is
used by Iranian forces to manufacture precision surface-to-surface
missiles.Various reports in foreign media claimed that Israeli troops
operated on the ground during the action at Masyaf, which lies about 200
kilometers (124 miles) north of Israel, though only about 30 kilometers
(18 miles) from Syria’s western coastline. The reports said that
commandos of the Israeli Air Force’s Shaldag Unit rappelled down from
helicopters and raided CERS. Israeli troops removed equipment and
documents and then laid explosives to destroy the facility. The IDF has
not publicly confirmed the details of the operation.Since Hamas’s brutal
October 7, 2023, massacre, which saw some 1,200 people killed in
southern Israel and 251 kidnapped, Israel has escalated its strikes on
Iranian-backed terror targets in Syria and has also struck Syrian army
air defenses and some Syrian forces.
UN experts say Houthis
exploited Gaza war to boost regional status, aided by Iran-Yemen rebels
get ‘unprecedented’ outside military support, in particular from
Iranians and Hezbollah, making them a potent force, according to report
presented to Security Council-By Agencies and ToI Staff Today, 8:11
pm-NOV 3,24
Yemen’s Houthi rebels are transforming themselves
into a “powerful military organization” due to “unprecedented” military
support from outside sources, particularly Iran and Hezbollah, according
to a UN report published Friday. The Iranian-backed Houthis have
exploited the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza and worked to enhance their
status in Iran’s self-described “Axis of Resistance,” which includes
Hamas and Hezbollah, to gain popularity in the region and beyond, the
experts monitoring sanctions against the Houthis said in the 537-page
report to the UN Security Council.Since the beginning of the war in Gaza
last year, the Houthis, who have controlled large swaths of war-torn
Yemen for a decade, have “exploited the regional situation and enhanced
cooperation with the Axis of Resistance,” the UN experts said. The panel
noted “the transformation of the Houthis from a localized armed group
with limited capabilities to a powerful military organization, extending
their operational capabilities well beyond the territories under their
control.”The report, which analyzed the period from September 2023
through July 2024, said such a transformation was aided by the transfer
of military materiel and financial support. The rebels also benefited
from training and technical assistance provided by the Quds Force, the
foreign operations arm of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, as well as
Hezbollah and pro-Iran groups in Iraq, the UN experts said.It said joint
operations centers have been set up in Iraq and Lebanon with Houthi
representatives “aimed at coordinating joint military actions of the
Axis of Resistance.”“The scale, nature and extent of transfers of
diverse military material technology provided to the Houthis from
external sources, including financial support and training of its
combatants, is unprecedented,” the report warned. The report is based on
testimony from military experts, Yemeni officials and sources close to
the Houthis. Experts found that the rebels themselves lack the ability
to “develop and produce complex weapon systems,” such as the missiles
they have used to target ships in the Red Sea.But they also said some of
their weapons bear similarities with equipment used by Iran and
Iran-backed groups. To support Hamas — which led the cross-border attack
on southern Israel on October 7, 2023 that sparked the war in Gaza — the
Houthis have been attacking vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of
Aden, disrupting global shipping in a key geopolitical area. They have
also directly attacked Israel with ballistic missiles and drones.Despite
Houthi claims that they would target ships linked to Israel, the panel
said its investigations revealed the rebels have been targeting vessels
indiscriminately. Its analysis of data from the International Maritime
Organization, the US and the United Kingdom revealed that at least 134
attacks were carried out from Houthi-controlled areas against merchant
and commercial vessels and US and UK warships in the Red Sea and the
Gulf of Aden between Nov. 15, 2023 and July 31, 2024.“The group’s shift
to actions at sea increased their influence in the region,” the UN
experts said. “Such a scale of attacks, using weapon systems on civilian
vessels, had never occurred since the Second World War.”The attacks
have seriously disrupted a route that carries 12 percent of global
trade, triggering reprisal strikes by the United States and Britain
against rebel targets in Yemen. Israel has also twice bombed Houthi
targets in retaliation for ballistic missile and drone attacks,
including one that killed a man in Tel Aviv.Houthi fighters are being
trained outside Yemen, either in Iran or at Hezbollah training
facilities in Lebanon, the panel said.Hezbollah was named as one of the
Houthis’ “most important supporters” due to the terror group’s
involvement in rebel decision-making, support for assembling weapons
systems, financing, “ideological guidance” and propaganda efforts. The
report said the Houthis have carried out a vast recruitment project,
resulting in a force that numbered 350,000 in mid-2024, as compared with
220,000 in 2022.“While the panel has not been able to independently
verify the number of newly recruited fighters, a large-scale
mobilization would be a matter of concern,” it said. The Houthis also
have been recruiting large numbers of Yemeni youths and children as well
as exploiting Ethiopian migrants, forcing them to join the fight
against the government and engage in trafficking narcotics, it
said.Exploiting high illiteracy rates, particularly in tribal areas,
they have reportedly mobilized boys as young as 10 or 11, often despite
parental opposition,” they said. “Recruitment sermons and weekly classes
on jihad are reportedly delivered in schools.”Child recruitment
reportedly increased after the war in Gaza started and the US and UK
airstrikes in Yemen, the experts said. Yemen’s government said it
received 3,298 reports of child recruitment in the first half of 2024,
with youngsters reportedly used as human shields, spies and in combat —
and for planting landmines and explosives, reconnaissance and as
cooks. The Houthis have been engaged in a civil war with Yemen’s
internationally recognized government, backed by a Saudi-led coalition,
since 2014, when they took control of the capital Sanaa and most of the
north. The Hamas-led attacks in October last year killed 1,200 people in
Israel, mostly civilians. Israel’s military response is aimed at
destroying Hamas in Gaza and saving the hostages. The day after the
Hamas attack, Hezbollah began firing rockets from Lebanon into northern
Israel, also saying it was supporting Gaza, and eventually escalating
into a broad conflict that has included an ongoing, limited Israeli
incursion into southern Lebanon.
Turkey presses UN for arms
embargo on Israel in joint letter with 52 countries-Russia, China, Iran
among signatories of missive, which comes a month after Erdogan’s
similar demand to UN; Turkish FM: ‘Selling arms to Israel means
participating in its genocide’By AFP and ToI Staff Today, 6:33 pm-NOV

Turkey’s foreign minister said Sunday that it had submitted a
letter to the United Nations, signed by 52 countries and two
inter-governmental organizations, calling for a halt in arms deliveries
to Israel.“We have written a joint letter calling on all countries to
stop the sale of arms and ammunition to Israel. We delivered this
letter, which has 54 signatories, to the UN on November 1,” said Hakan
Fidan at a press conference in Djibouti, where he was attending a
Turkey-Africa partnership summit.“We must repeat at every opportunity
that selling arms to Israel means participating in its genocide,” said
Fidan, adding that the letter is “an initiative launched by
Turkey.”Among the signatories were Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Algeria, China,
Iran and Russia. The Arab League and the Organization of Islamic
Cooperation, both inter-governmental organizations within the UN, also
signed the document.Last month, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
called on the UN to impose an arms embargo on Israel. He said the
measure would be an “effective solution” to end Israel’s war on Hamas in
Gaza, which was sparked when thousands of Hamas-led terrorists stormed
southern Israel to kill some 1,200 people and take 251 hostages.Erdogan
has been a harsh critic of Israel throughout the war in Gaza, at one
point appearing to say he would invade Israel to end the war. In May, he
banned trade with Israel, ending the two countries’ robust economic
ties.Erdogan also met with Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Istanbul in
April, several months before he was slain in an explosion in Tehran
widely attributed to Israel. Government officials told The Times of
Israel earlier this year that Hamas’s leadership had briefly moved from
Qatar to Turkey that month amid tensions with Doha. Some of Israel’s
allies have also floated restricting arms deliveries to the country.
French President Emmanuel Macron said last month that an arms embargo is
the only way to end the war in Gaza. In September, British Prime
Minister Keir Starmer halted the delivery of some weapons out of fear
they could be used to commit war crimes, but stopped short of calling
for a full embargo. Canada’s Foreign Minister Melanie Joly also
announced in September that she was suspending some 30 permits for arms
shipments to Israel, saying Ottawa would not have “arms or parts of arms
be sent to Gaza.”Israel’s two largest arms sources, the United States
and Germany, have resisted calls for an embargo on Israel, though each
has been accused of withholding certain arms during the war.
Iranians
mark 1979 hostage crisis anniversary with protest outside former US
embassy-Chants of ‘Death to America,’ ‘Death to Israel’ spread among
protesters, who burn flags to celebrate standoff that brought an end to
Iran’s relations with the US-By AFP and ToI Staff Today, 10:36 am-NOV

Iranian demonstrators gathered on Sunday outside the former
US embassy in Tehran to mark the anniversary of the 1979 hostage crisis
that has for decades shaped relations between Washington and Tehran. The
hostage crisis began in November 1979 following the Islamic Revolution
led by Iran’s late supreme leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini that
ousted the Western-backed shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi.Students loyal to
Khomeini stormed the embassy building and held 52 staff hostage for 444
days while demanding that Washington hand over Iran’s recently toppled
shah, who was being treated in the United States for cancer.Washington
officially broke off relations with Tehran in 1980, midway through the
crisis, and they have been frozen ever since.“Death to Israel, death to
America!” chanted crowds of Iranians outside the building, which is
currently a museum known as the “Den of Spies,” and covered with
striking anti-American murals.Others burnt the Israeli and US
flags.Iranians have held the rallies annually since 1979.Regional
tensions have soared since the outbreak of war in Gaza last October,
following the Hamas terror group’s assault on southern Israel on October
7, 2023, in which some 1,200 people were killed — most of them
civilians — and 251 were seized as hostages.Israel, an ally of the US
and long-standing foe of Iran, has been battling Hamas in Gaza ever
since. It is also fighting against Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon to
push the terror group back from the border and allow the safe return
home of some 60,000 displaced people following a year of daily rocket
and missile attacks on northern Israel. On October 26, Israel conducted
targeted airstrikes on military sites in Iran in response to the massive
ballistic missile attack launched by Tehran on October 1. Iran said at
the time that its attack had been retaliation for the assassination of
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut in September.Israel has
warned Iran against responding to its attack.Iran’s supreme leader
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei vowed on Saturday a harsh response against Israel
and the US to attacks on Iran and its allies.“The enemies, both the USA
and the Zionist regime, should know that they will definitely receive a
crushing response to what they are doing against Iran, the Iranian
nation and the resistance front,” Khamenei said in a speech to students
in Tehran.Sunday’s event took place days ahead of the US elections
pitting Republican former president Donald Trump against Democrat Vice
President Kamala Harris.
Egypt hosting Fatah-Hamas talks on
postwar Gaza governance, as part of truce efforts-Sources say talks are
focused on putting together a committee of non-aligned Palestinian
figures to comply with Israel’s demand that neither group run the Strip
after the war-By Reuters and ToI Staff Today, 6:37 am-NOV 3,24
Senior
officials of the rival Palestinian groups Fatah and Hamas have been
meeting in Cairo to discuss forming a committee to manage Gaza’s postwar
governance, an Egyptian security source was quoted as saying by Egypt’s
Al Qahera News TV on Saturday. The talks are part of Egypt’s broader
mediation efforts to broker a ceasefire between Israel and terror group
Hamas and to expand humanitarian access to the enclave.Leaders from
Hamas and the Fatah faction of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud
Abbas met in Cairo last month to discuss forming the committee based on a
proposal put forward by Egypt, but talks were adjourned for later
discussion, sources close to the talks told Reuters. The sources said the
committee would be made up of independent Palestinian figures not
aligned with a particular movement, addressing the question of who would
run Gaza after the ongoing war is over.Israel rejects any role by Hamas
in Gaza after the war is ended and has said it does not trust the rival
Palestinian Authority of Abbas to run the enclave.Mediators, including
Egypt and Qatar with backing from the United States, have so far failed
to secure a truce that would end the war and facilitate a release of
Israeli and foreign hostages held by Hamas, in exchange for Palestinian
security prisoners held by Israel for crimes that include terror
offenses.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the war will
continue until Hamas is dismantled. The terror group has demanded an end
to the war and has rejected any hostage deal that doesn’t include an
upfront commitment from Israel to end hostilities and withdraw its
forces from the Strip, which Jerusalem says would leave Hamas free to
plan a repeat of its October 7, 2023, onslaught that killed some 1,200
and resulted in the kidnapping of 251 hostages.Hamas political official
Izzat al-Risheq dismissed proposals of limited or temporary truces as
“smokescreens.”“We are positively open to any proposals or ideas that
ensure the cessation of aggression and the withdrawal of occupation
forces from Gaza,” al-Risheq said in a statement.According to the
Hamas-run Gaza health ministry, 43,314 Palestinians have been killed and
102,019 injured in the fighting so far, though the toll cannot be
verified and does not differentiate between civilians and fighters.
Israel says it has killed some 18,000 combatants in battle and another
1,000 terrorists inside Israel on October 7.
US said to warn Iran
it won’t be able to restrain Israel if Tehran attacks again-American
B-52 bombers arrive in region as Israel reportedly identifies initial
signs of Iran preparing for attack, vows strong response even if strike
carried out via proxies-By ToI Staff Today, 4:47 am-NOV 3,24
The
US has reportedly warned Iran in recent days against launching another
attack on Israel, adding that Washington will not be able to restrain
Israel if it attacks again, the Axios news site reported Saturday,
citing an unnamed US official and a former Israeli official.“We told the
Iranians: We won’t be able to hold Israel back, and we won’t be able to
make sure that the next attack will be calibrated and targeted as the
previous one,” the US official was quoted as saying. The report quoted
the official as saying the message had been conveyed directly to the
Iranians, though the Israeli source said a message was passed to Tehran
via Swiss intermediaries. There was no response from Washington or Tehran
to the report, which came hours after Iran’s supreme leader threatened
Israel and the US with “a crushing response” over attacks on Iran and
its allies.Iranian officials are increasingly threatening to launch yet
another strike against Israel in response to Jerusalem’s October 26
attack on the Islamic Republic that targeted military bases and
facilities and that Iran said killed at least five people.Israel’s
retaliatory strikes on Iranian military facilities came weeks after the
Islamic Republic’s October 1 attack, in which Iran launched some 200
ballistic missiles at Israel, sending most of the population rushing to
bomb shelters and safe rooms. It caused relatively minor damage to
military bases and some residential areas, and killed a Palestinian man
in the West Bank.Any further attacks from either side could engulf the
wider Middle East, already teetering over the Israel-Hamas war in the
Gaza Strip and Israel’s ground operation in Lebanon, into a wider
regional conflict just ahead of the US presidential election this
Tuesday.Israel’s Kan public broadcaster reported Saturday that while US
authorities have identified “initial movements” that indicate Iran is
weighing how to respond, there aren’t yet clear indications regarding
when or how it will happen.Channel 12 news reported, meanwhile, that
Israel’s security establishment was estimating that Iran could choose to
act via its Shiite militias in Iraq and Yemen, rather than responding
directly, in an attempt to lower the risk of another Israeli attack on
Iranian soil. The outlet said senior Israeli security officials were
threatening to respond strongly to any attack regardless of where it
originates.Meanwhile, Arab media outlets published footage Saturday
indicating that an Israeli Navy missile boat had crossed the Suez Canal
and was now in the Red Sea carrying an advanced launcher capable of
firing the advanced LORA missile, which was developed by Israel
Aerospace Industries and has a 400-kilometer range.— Shachar Kleiman שחר

carrier likely is in the Arabian Sea, while Pentagon press secretary
Maj.Gen. Pat Ryder said Friday that more destroyers, fighter squadrons,
tankers and B-52 long-range bombers would be coming to the region to

Sunday that the B-52 bombers had arrived in the region.B-52

2024-Earlier Saturday, Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei threatened
Israel and the US with “a crushing response” over attacks on Iran and
its allies.“The enemies, whether the Zionist regime or the United States
of America, will definitely receive a crushing response to what they
are doing to Iran and the Iranian nation and to the resistance front,”
Khamenei said in video released by Iranian state media. The 85-year-old
Khamenei had struck a more cautious approach in earlier remarks, saying
officials would weigh Iran’s response and that Israel’s attack “should
not be exaggerated nor downplayed.”But efforts by Iran to downplay the
attack faltered as satellite photos and multiple reports in global media
showed Israel’s strikes had crippled Iran’s ballistic missile
production by destroying at least a dozen solid fuel mixers, and
disabled crucial air defenses protecting major energy
installations.Iran’s terror proxies, called the “Axis of Resistance” by
Tehran, also have been severely hurt by ongoing Israeli attacks,
particularly Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Iran has
long used those groups as both an asymmetrical way to attack Israel and
as a shield against a direct assault. Some analysts believe those groups
want Iran to do more to back them militarily.Israel launched a war on
Hamas in Gaza after the October 7, 2023, massacre in which some 3,000
Hamas-led terrorists invaded southern Israel, killed some 1,200 people
and kidnapped 251 as hostages. Israel recently stepped up strikes on
Hezbollah, which began launching rockets at Israel a day after the Hamas
onslaught. Israel has vowed to push Hezbollah away from the border and
enable tens of thousands of evacuees to return to their homes in
northern Israel.Iran, which directly attacked Israel with missiles and
drones for the first time in April, has been dealing with its own
problems at home, as its economy struggles under the weight of
international sanctions and it has faced years of widespread, multiple
protests.Iran has long threatened Israel with destruction and called to
wipe out the Jewish state. On Sunday, Iran marks the 45th anniversary of
the US Embassy hostage crisis, following the Persian calendar. The
November 4, 1979, storming of the embassy by Islamist students led to
the 444-day crisis, which cemented the decades-long enmity between
Tehran and Washington that persists today.AP contributed to this report.
'They
can't go to Hillel, so they're doing their own thing' US campus ‘Gaza
solidarity sukkahs’ ignite debates on anti-Zionist Jews’
observance-While almost certainly intended to be provocative, ceremonial
huts at universities pose a question of whether the political messaging
is cynical or genuine religious expression-By Andrew Lapin Today, 4:01
am-NOV 3,24
JTA — Last week the Brooklyn rabbi Andrue Kahn
received a request from a group of Jewish students at New York
University: Would he come to lead prayers at their sukkah? It wasn’t an
unusual request for a rabbi during the holiday of Sukkot, but the
circumstances behind it were decidedly more so. The student group was
Jews Against Zionism, and the sukkah they constructed was what they
called a “Gaza solidarity sukkah,” employing the traditional outdoor
huts of the Jewish harvest festival to level pointed critiques at
Israel’s ongoing military campaign in the Gaza Strip.Jews Against
Zionism NYU has also expressed vocal support for Within Our Lifetime, a
radical pro-Palestinian group that advocates Israel’s destruction and
whose protest targets — including Brooklyn’s “OY/YO” sculpture and an
exhibit commemorating the victims of the Nova festival massacre — have
led mainstream Jewish groups and a range of politicians across the
political spectrum to charge it with antisemitism. But Kahn didn’t bat an
eye at the request, and came to Washington Square Park to lead the
students in prayer and meditation. Because Jews Against Zionism
reportedly hadn’t sought permission from NYU to build the structure, he
had to do so from the other side of a barrier erected by campus police
around the sukkah. (A spokesperson for NYU did not immediately return a
request for comment.)Shortly afterward, according to NYU’s student
newspaper, the student group took down their sukkah voluntarily and
ahead of schedule, citing “aggressive agitators” and claiming that
campus police had treated them with hostility. Betar US, a right-wing
pro-Israel group that traces its roots to pre-state Zionist activist
Zeev Jabotinsky, told the student paper they “happily and proudly”
disrupted the sukkah. On Instagram, Betar referred to it and similar
Gaza solidarity sukkahs as a “Jihaddi [sic] Sukkah” and referred to its
participants as “thugs” and “terrorists.”“We joined their Gaza
Solidarity Sukkah and we will again and again and again. We don’t
apologize,” Betar wrote on a post decorated with images of the
“Inglourious Basterds” movie character The Bear Jew. “We celebrate
Sukkot and you don’t.” Comparing the groups behind the solidarity sukkah
to the Hitler Youth, Betar added, “You advocate for jihad, and terror
and hatred and are anti-American and antisemitic.”It was far from the
only row over campus anti-Zionist versions of the sukkah this
month.Across the country, around two dozen anti-Zionist Jewish groups,
most aligned with Jewish Voice for Peace, constructed their own Gaza
solidarity sukkahs in a similar spirit to the Passover seders and
Shabbat services they held in encampments this spring. With this year’s
High Holidays falling around the one-year anniversary of the October 7
massacre in which Hamas-led terrorists slaughtered 1,200 men, women and
children in southern Israel and kidnapped 251 to the Gaza Strip,
anti-Zionist Jews sought ways to merge their religious rituals with
their political identities. While Sukkot was the most visible example of
tensions around that, there were other signs of intra-Jewish unrest on
campuses, including Harvard Hillel’s suspension of its chapter of the
liberal pro-Israel group J Street U after the latter group initiated a
Yom Kippur-themed flyer protest campaign. The sukkahs were met with a
range of reactions, mostly in opposition, from universities on edge
about stoking further campus tensions around Israel. In many cases, the
sukkahs were classified as unauthorized structures and removed by
university administrators, who cited new public protest rules solidified
in the aftermath of this spring’s pro-Palestinian encampment
movement.Such responses at times turned aggressive: Rutgers University,
for example, brought a bulldozer to the site of its students’
anti-Zionist sukkah — where activists were chanting “L’chaim Intifada” —
before ultimately removing it without the use of the construction
vehicle. The students said they found this action especially offensive
because the brand of bulldozer, Caterpillar, is routinely used in the
West Bank by Israel and has long been a target of Israel divestment
campaigns. (The family of American peace activist Rachel Corrie, who was
killed by a Caterpillar bulldozer operated by the IDF in 2003, sued the
company.)So what was the Gaza solidarity sukkah movement and its
institutional blowback? Was it a way to employ Jewish ritual to
establish another encampment of sorts, given the overlap between the
temporary structure of a sukkah and this spring’s efforts by
pro-Palestinian groups to occupy campus spaces? Or was it an authentic
effort to merge Jewish teachings with genuine Jewish anger at Israel
over the colossal death toll in Gaza in the year-plus since the October
7, 2023, Hamas onslaught? For those close to the anti-Zionist Jews, the
answer was obvious.“I thought that it was really important to support
Jewish students looking to celebrate in a way that is meaningful to
them,” Kahn, who until recently worked in the Hebrew school of the
Reform Congregation Beth Elohim and has sharply criticized Israel from
other pulpits in the past, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. “These
students can’t go to Hillel or Chabad for their Jewish practice because
of their political beliefs. So they’re creating their own thing.”Kahn
was certainly sympathetic to the students’ politics: He is currently
trying to relaunch the American Council for Judaism, a group that formed
in 1942 to advance objections to the Reform movement’s growing embrace
of Zionism. (The group’s influence began to wane a few short years
later, after the Holocaust and the formation of the State of Israel led
most Reform Jews to embrace Zionist ideas.)At NYU’s Gaza solidarity
sukkah, Kahn said, he saw more than an excuse to launch another protest
against Israel. He saw a sukkah that, as far as he could tell, was
heartfelt in its Jewish approach and fully in compliance with
traditional sukkah construction, albeit one also adorned with slogans
including “Disclose & Divest” and “Free Palestine.”“As far as I
could tell, it was a kosher sukkah. The roof was see-through, they had
three walls. They were doing it,” he said, noting also the students had
sourced a lulav and etrog for the occasion (Israel, Morocco and China
are prime etrog exporters; Kahn said he didn’t know where the students’
was from).Comparing the movement to the Freedom Seders of the civil
rights era and afterward, Kahn said it fell in with a history of Jews
merging political causes with their religious observance: “Although,
yes, there were political messages on the sukkah itself, the intent of
the students was a religious one.”Elsewhere, the line between the sukkah
movement and the encampments became blurred. At Columbia University,
whose students originated the encampment movement, anti-Zionist Jews
continued the language of their protester coalition by deeming their hut
a “liberation sukkah.” At the University of Pennsylvania, students had
founded their campus JVP chapter only days before hosting the sukkah.
Some of the sukkah, like one at Northwestern University, were
constructed on the same campus locations where the encampment movement
had been held. And the University of California, Los Angeles, played host
to perhaps the most chaotic scene surrounding a Gaza solidarity sukkah.
Joining up with a brief attempt to resurrect an encampment at the same
spot, the sukkah shared space with a banner reading, “Resistance is
justified from Warsaw to Palestine.” UCLA campus police soon broke up
the display, arresting one protester for failing to obey a dispersal
order as they broke up the sukkah, whose participants numbered around
40. A Betar group also showed up, threatening to “organize groups of
Jews” to remove the display themselves until their progress was also
halted by police.Signs like the one at UCLA, that directly advocate for
violence against Israelis, are why detractors say the Gaza solidarity
sukkot shouldn’t be seen as authentic means of Jewish practice.“Using
these holidays as an excuse to justify the deadliest day for the Jewish
people since the Holocaust does a disservice to Jewish students,” Julia
Jassey, founder of the activist group Jewish On Campus, told JTA. Jassey
pointed to the UCLA sign in particular.UCLA authorities said the sukkah
had violated several “time, place and manner” restrictions around
campus speech, including “assembling in an area not designated for
public expression, using unauthorized structures, and they have used
amplified sound.” The justification was notable at UCLA, which recently
received a legal ruling ordering it to do a better job protecting Jewish
students’ freedom of movement throughout the campus. And UCLA wasn’t the
only site of a Sukkot clash between Jews. A Hillel sukkah at Simmons
University, a private school in Boston, was vandalized with messages
reading “Gaza Liberation Sukkah” this week. The university president
condemned the action as “the antisemitic vandalism of a Jewish religious
symbol on our campus” in a statement and said it was being investigated
as a potential hate crime. The school’s Hillel chapter also called the
vandalism antisemitic in a statement, adding that its sukkah had been
“co-opted through vandalism to make political statements” and that the
act “sends a clear message: Jewish students are not welcome to openly
celebrate and practice our customs.”On Instagram the Simmons JVP chapter
pushed back, posting an image of the graffiti and declaring, “This is
not antisemitism.” The chapter argued that the wording of the vandalism
“is quite clearly meant to represent these Gaza Solidarity Sukkahs” on
other campuses, and declared that labeling it antisemitic instead of
anti-Zionist “directly harms and endangers Palestinian students and
BIPOC and Muslim students who support Palestine.” The JVP post added,
“Drop Hillel. Drop this bs.”Such endorsement of a sukkah sabotage was
cause for alarm in some corners of the Jewish world, and the national
JVP movement generally steered away from endorsing such actions. Instead
it pushed the idea that most Gaza solidarity sukkahs were intended as
alternative modes of Jewish practice for anti-Zionists. (Individual JVP
chapters are given a degree of independence from the national movement
to declare their own positions.)“This year, students could not separate
their observance from the fact that tens of thousands of Palestinians
are forced to live in temporary shelters due to [the] Israeli military’s
mass destruction of homes in Gaza,” JVP said in a news release last
week about the solidarity sukkahs. Among the guests at these solidarity
sukkahs were Jewish author Naomi Klein and Jewish pro-Palestinian
activist Simone Zimmerman. At some schools, students intended to stay in
their sukkahs for eight days, a Jewish tradition that is rarely
practiced in full outside Orthodox communities. These students were
prevented from doing so by their administrators in most cases. This was
wrong, JVP maintained.“The students explained that sleeping in sukkahs
is an essential part of this holiday and part of their religious rights,
but administrators choose to disregard the students’ pleas,” the JVP
statement said, calling the dismantling of the sukkahs “a desecration of
a religious structure.”Not every Gaza solidarity sukkah was built
without trying to seek permission. At the University of Southern
California, for example, a student JVP chapter sought and said it
initially received permits to construct a sukkah at a religious center
on campus. But, according to student newspaper The Daily Trojan, USC
later denied the permits to JVP after catching wind of the group’s plans
to adorn the sukkah with “political” messaging like a Palestinian flag
banner. JVP later constructed its “solidarity sukkah” elsewhere on
campus. (The school said it had denied the permit because the JVP
chapter was not an officially recognized student organization.)And at
Brown University, the school initially approved permit requests from
BrownU Jews for Ceasefire Now to host a Gaza solidarity sukkah, until
the students announced their intent to sleep in the structure for eight
days. This, Brown said in a statement to JTA, was a “prohibited” act.
The university said it first attempted to quietly resolve the situation
with the students. When the sleep-in continued, a spokesperson said, the
school began initiating disciplinary proceedings against the students.
The students themselves then took down the sukkah after the eight days
of the holiday were up; they claim that 17 of them are currently facing
potential conduct violations.Such actions aren’t occurring in a vacuum.
Days before at Brown, 150 activists had protested the university’s
governing board after it voted down a proposal to divest from Israel;
the school has since suspended its chapter of Students for Justice in
Palestine for conduct violations related to the protest. Some progressive
Jewish observers who are not students also denounced universities for
shutting down the sukkahs. Rabbi Lex Rofeberg, who runs the Jewish
digital learning project Judaism Unbound and visited Brown’s Gaza
solidarity sukkah, said this year’s Sukkot “should be remembered as a
pivotal moment in the history of American Judaism” due to university
actions against the solidarity structures, and alleged that universities
had overstepped their bounds by policing them.“It is not the place of
universities to determine what is and is not an authentic manifestation
of Jewish religious practice, as filtered through Bible, through Talmud,
and through more recent Jewish texts,” Rofeberg wrote on the social
network X. “And yet universities have asserted that that’s precisely
their role.”His position was supported by some prominent progressive
Jews and Jewish groups, including Jews for Racial and Economic Justice.
But not every Jewish analyst agreed. Haviv Rettig Gur, a commentator for
The Times of Israel, described anti-Zionist sukkahs as “unkosher” and
accused them of deploying a “cynical use of Palestinian iconography.”For
Kahn, the sukkah pointed to something much bigger.“I think that the
Jewish community needs to very broadly get used to having a greater
diversity of Jewish expression,” he said.
Not in trickles or

Saturday evening to repeat their call for a deal to free hostages held
by Hamas in Gaza. The protests have been held weekly nearly every
Saturday night since Hamas’s October 7, 2023, onslaught, which saw
terrorists kill some 1,200 people and kidnap 251.Some 500 people
gathered at Tel Aviv’s Hostages Square for the Hostages and Missing
Families Forum’s weekly rally to demand a deal to release the remaining
101 captives all at once.“There is no time for a multi-stage deal and no
use for it,” said Ronen Neutra, father of Israeli-American hostage Omer
Neutra, who was kidnapped while serving as a tank commander near
Gaza. Two of the possible deals currently being discussed are an Egyptian
proposal to release four hostages during a two-day ceasefire, and a
multi-stage, Qatari-American proposal that would ultimately see all
hostages released and the war ended.Hamas has rejected the proposed
deals, insisting that any agreement include an upfront commitment by
Israel to end the war and withdraw all its forces from Gaza. Israel has
been accused by mediators of hindering progress in negotiations on
several occasions by introducing new demands.Earlier draft agreements
envisioned a staggered release, beginning with “humanitarian” cases,
meaning female, elderly and injured hostages.“All the hostages are
humanitarian [cases],” Neutra argued, adding that a speedy release of
all the captives would afford Israel a “magnificent victory” over
Hamas.Speaking in English, Orna Neutra, the hostage’s mother, said that
during the Hamas assault, her son fought Hamas terrorists, knowing “that
if something happened to him, he would not be left behind.”“That is the
Israeli ethos,” she added.Noam Idan Ben Ezra, whose brother Tsahi Idan
was kidnapped from his home in Kibbutz Nahal Oz, said: “The hostages’
release requires an end to the war… The army has already won. Now it’s
the political echelon’s turn.”Ben Ezra demanded a deal to release
“everyone now, not in trickles and not in phases — Tsahi and all the
hostages.”The rally also featured speeches by Amir Idan, Tsahi Idan’s
cousin; Noam Katz, whose father Lior Rudaeff was killed on October 7 and
his body kidnapped to Gaza; freed hostage Maya Regev; Ilan Dalal,
father of hostage Guy Gilboa-Dalal; and Dr. Ayelet Levy Shahar, mother
of hostage Naama Levy.Levy Shahar urged the Israeli public to “take to
the streets,” calling on them to “vote with your feet to save the values
on which the state was founded.”A similar-sized protest was held
simultaneously a block away on Begin Street, also calling for a hostage
deal and accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of thwarting
negotiations.Bolstering the Begin Road rally were organizations opposed
to the government’s judicial overhaul advanced last year, including
Darkenu, the Movement for Quality Government, and the reservist protest
group Brothers in Arms, as well as a column of far-left activists who
marched over from an earlier anti-war protest at Habima Square. That
demonstration saw some 300 people protest under heavy police guard
against the “genocide” in Gaza, an allegation Israel denies.“Killing
children is a war crime. Starvation is a war crime. Destruction of
cities is a war crime,” activist Alon Lee Green said. “All of this is
happening in the name of the settlements,” he added, using the term “the
Israeli Ku Klux Klan.” He assailed Israeli media and the Zionist left
for “not telling us what is happening in Gaza.”In Jerusalem, protesters
calling for the release of hostages marched from Zion Square to Paris
Square.Some anti-government activists carried a large banner reading “A
spy in my office? I didn’t see anything. Netanyahu — a useful idiot,” a
criticism of Netanyahu amid an ongoing investigation into the alleged
leak of classified documents from his office said to be aimed at
countering the hostage families’ regular protests.Simultaneous
anti-government protests also took place in Kfar Saba, Karkur and
Hadera. It is believed that 97 of the 251 hostages abducted by Hamas in
the October 7 attack remain in Gaza, including the bodies of at least 34
confirmed dead by the IDF.Hamas released 105 civilians during a
weeklong truce in late November, and four hostages were released before
that. Eight hostages have been rescued by troops alive, and the bodies
of 37 hostages have also been recovered, including three mistakenly
killed by the military as they tried to escape their captors.Hamas is
also holding two Israeli civilians who entered the Strip in 2014 and
2015, as well as the bodies of two IDF soldiers who were killed in 2014.

Three Israeli soldiers were killed in two
separate incidents in the northern Gaza Strip on Saturday, the military
announced. Two of the slain troops were named as Staff Sgt. Itay
Parizat, 20, from Petah Tikva, and Staff Sgt. Yair Hananya, 22, from
Mitzpe Netofa. Both served in the Givati Brigade’s Shaked
Battalion.Another soldier was seriously wounded in the same incident,
the Israel Defense Forces said. The military said it was still probing
the deadly incident.Their deaths brought Israel’s toll in the ground
offensive against Hamas in Gaza and in military operations along the
border with the Strip to 370.Separately, on Sunday morning, the IDF
announced that another soldier was killed by a grenade explosion early
the previous morning in northern Gaza, without publicizing his
identity. He was named by local authorities as Shneur Zalman Cohen, 20,
from the West Bank settlement of Yitzhar. The Military Police launched an
investigation into the circumstances of the deadly incident, which was
apparently not directly related to the fighting. — Carmel Dangor כרמל
×“× ×’×•×¨ (@carmeldangor) November 2, 2024-Meanwhile, the IDF announced
Saturday that, according to the latest assessments, Israeli troops had
killed some 900 terror operatives during an ongoing operation in
northern Gaza’s Jabalia, which began last month.Another 700 Palestinians
have been detained, among whom at least 300 have so far been confirmed
to be members of terror groups, according to the IDF.In Gaza City, the
IDF located and demolished a large underground weapons manufacturing
plant operated by Hamas. The army said that troops with the 252nd
Division located the tunnel network, where Hamas had previously
manufactured weapons. The site was located “in the heart of a civilian
population,” near Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood, the IDF said.In the
tunnel, the IDF said troops found lathes and hundreds of components used
to build rockets, mortars, grenades, and diving equipment, which would
have been used by Hamas terrorists to infiltrate into Israel via the
sea. Also in the tunnel, the IDF said it found several rooms where Hamas
operatives could reside for long periods. The rooms included kitchens,
bedrooms and offices.Combat engineers mapped out the tunnel system
before demolishing it.The IDF said that by demolishing the tunnel and
seizing the equipment, it “foiled another attempt by the Hamas terror
organization to rearm.”Throughout the war, Israel has said it seeks to
minimize civilian fatalities and stressed that Hamas uses Gaza’s
civilians as human shields, fighting from civilian areas including
homes, hospitals, schools and mosques.Terrorist from Oct. 7 attack on
Kibbutz Nir Oz killed-On Sunday the IDF announced that a Hamas Nukhba
Force terrorist who participated in the October 7 onslaught was killed
in a drone strike in the southern Gaza Strip last week.According to the
military, Rafaat Ibrahim Mahmoud Aqdih was among the Nukhba terrorists
who raided Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7, 2023, killing and abducting
civilians.During the war, the IDF said he served as an assistant to the
head of the Nukhba Force in Khan Younis. — Israeli Air Force (@IAFsite)
November 3, 2024-Also on Saturday, the IDF denied claims made by the
World Health Organization and Hamas that it had carried out a strike
against a vaccination center in Gaza City earlier in the day, wounding
six.“We have received an extremely concerning report that the Sheikh
Radwan primary health care center in northern Gaza was struck today
while parents were bringing their children to the life-saving polio
vaccination in an area where a humanitarian pause was agreed to allow
vaccination to proceed,” WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a
post on X.“Six people, including four children, were injured,” he
added. The WHO chief did not specify who carried out the strike, but a
source in the Hamas-run civil defense agency tells AFP that it allegedly
was “an Israeli quadcopter that fired two missiles which hit the wall
of Sheikh Radwan clinic.”In response to a query on the matter, the IDF
said it was aware of claims that civilians were hurt at the vaccination
center, but contrary to the reports, it said that no Israeli strike had
been carried out in the area at that time.“Today, a vaccination
operation began, in coordination with the IDF via COGAT, and in
cooperation with the international community, within which the
population is allowed to safely reach the medical centers where the
vaccinations will be given to the population,” the military said.“We are
aware of a claim about the harm to Palestinian civilians at the Sheikh
Radwan vaccination center in the northern Gaza Strip. Contrary to what
was claimed, a preliminary investigation reveals that there was no
strike by IDF forces in the area at the time in question,” the IDF
said. The IDF added that it “emphasizes that the Hamas terror
organization deliberately fires from civilian areas, systematically
violates international law, and cynically exploits the civilian
population as a shield for terror acts against the State of Israel.”The
war erupted when Hamas-led terrorists attacked southern Israel on
October 7, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking 251
hostages to Gaza.According to the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry, 43,314
Palestinians have been killed and 102,019 injured in the fighting so
far, though the toll cannot be verified and does not differentiate
between civilians and fighters. Israel says it has killed some 18,000
combatants in battle and another 1,000 terrorists inside Israel on
October 7.
North Korea says new Hwasong-19 ICBM has 'matchless' nuclear attack capability by Thomas Maresca.
Washington
DC (UPI) Nov 1, 2024-North Korea successfully test-fired its new
Hwasong-19 intercontinental ballistic missile, state-run media reported
Friday, with leader Kim Jong Un claiming the regime has secured an
"irreversible" means of delivering nuclear weapons.Kim said the launch
demonstrated the missile's "matchless strategic nuclear attack
capability before the world," according to a report in the official
Korean Central News Agency. The Hwasong-19, which was fired on Thursday,
flew for 86 minutes and reached an altitude of 4,776 miles, KCNA said --
both records for a North Korean missile."The test of the latest
strategic weapon system updated the recent records of the strategic
missile capability of the DPRK and demonstrated the modernity and
credibility of its world's most powerful strategic deterrent," the KCNA
report said. The Democratic People's Republic of Korea is the official
name of North Korea. The militaries of South Korea and Japan tracked the
launch in real time Thursday and reported similar flight data."So far,
the initial judgment is that it may have been a test launch of a new
solid-propellant long-range ballistic missile," South Korean Defense
Ministry spokesman Lee Kyung-ho said at a press briefing
Thursday.Missiles using solid-fuel propellants have long been on Kim's
wish list of weapons as they can be transported and launched more
quickly than liquid-fuel models.The North's previous solid-fuel ICBM,
the Hwasong-18, was first tested in April 2023 and is believed to have
the capacity to reach anywhere in the continental United States. The new
missile appears to be substantially larger than its predecessor. Images
released by state media show the Hwasong-19 mounted on an 11-axle
transporter-erector launcher while the Hwasong-18 uses a 9-axle
TEL.However, it is still unclear whether Pyongyang has the atmospheric
re-entry vehicle technology to successfully deliver a nuclear payload
with its ICBMs.The missile test comes as North Korea has dispatched
troops to Russia to assist Moscow's war against Ukraine. On Thursday,
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that some 8,000 North Korean
soldiers have moved to the border with Ukraine and may soon be deployed
on the battlefield."We now assess that there are some 10,000 North
Korean soldiers in total in Russia, and the most recent information
indicates that as many as 8,000 of those North Korean forces have been
deployed to the Kursk Region," Blinken said at a press briefing in
Washington. The remarks came at a meeting at the State Department with
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, South Korean Foreign Minister Cho
Tae-yul and Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun."We've not yet seen these
troops deploy into combat against Ukrainian forces, but we would expect
that to happen in the coming days," Blinken said.South Korean defense
officials warned earlier this week that North Korea was looking to stage
a provocation ahead of the U.S. presidential election on Tuesday. On
Friday, the South's Ministry of Unification, which oversees inter-Korean
relations, echoed the assessment and added that the North may also want
to distract attention from its troops in Russia."We believe that the
launch may have had various purposes, such as demonstrating nuclear and
missile capabilities and pressuring the United States, as well as
diverting attention from the issue of sending North Korean troops to
Russia," ministry spokeswoman Kim In-ae said at a press briefing. The
United States, South Korea and Japan issued a joint statement condemning
the test, saying the launch was North Korea's latest violation of
multiple U.N. Security Council resolutions that restrict the regime's
illicit nuclear and ballistic missile programs."We deplore the DPRK's
decision to divert its scarce resources away from its people to these
unlawful weapons programs," the statement said."The ROK, U.S. and Japan
condemn in the strongest terms deepening military cooperation between
the DPRK and Russia, including continued unlawful arms transfers, as
well as the recent deployment of North Korean troops to Russia," the
statement added.
Joint Russia sea drills signal start of Indonesian foreign policy shift By Marchio GORBIANO.
Jakarta
(AFP) Nov 3, 2024-Indonesia's first joint military drills with Russia
this week signal that new President Prabowo Subianto will seek a bigger
role for Jakarta on the world stage as part of a significant foreign
policy shift, analysts say.Indonesia has long maintained a neutral
foreign policy and refuses to take sides in the Russia-Ukraine conflict
or US-China rivalry, but Prabowo has called for stronger ties with
Moscow despite Western pressure on Jakarta."It is part of a broader
agenda to elevate ties with whomever it may be, regardless of their
geopolitical bloc, as long as there is a benefit for Indonesia," said
Pieter Pandie, researcher at the Centre for Strategic and International
Studies. The southeast Asian ASEAN bloc, which Indonesia is a member of,
held joint exercises with Russia in 2021, but Jakarta has never held
drills alone with Moscow.Jakarta has billion-dollar trade ties with
Moscow, but major arms imports have stalled in recent years, according
to weapons watchdog SIPRI, following Western sanctions on Russia after
it seized Crimea in 2014 and launched its full-scale military offensive
on Ukraine in 2022.Still, Prabowo kept alive a $1.1 billion Russian
fighter jet deal agreed in 2018 when he was appointed defence minister a
year later, despite the reported threat of US sanctions.Jakarta also
refused to budge when Western nations lobbied Indonesia to disinvite
Russia from the G20 summit it hosted in 2022.Prabowo met Russian
President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin in July, later announcing joint
naval drills that experts say indicate how Moscow will grow in
significance as part of a broader foreign policy. The five-day drills
begin Monday in eastern Java where Moscow will send three corvette-class
warships, a medium tanker ship, a military helicopter, and a tug
boat."They reaffirm that we will not alienate one or two countries in
the geopolitical arena," said Anton Aliabbas, an assistant professor at
the Paramadina Graduate School of Diplomacy.- 'Great friend' -During his
Kremlin visit, Prabowo -- a 73-year-old ex-general -- said he wanted to
deepen the relationship with Russia."We consider Russia as a great
friend and I would like to continue to maintain and enhance this
relationship," Prabowo told Putin. Before his inauguration last month,
Prabowo said he wanted to build a "web of strong friendships".To that
end he visited more than a dozen countries including China and
Australia, where he struck a key security deal, and Jakarta has since
kickstarted a process to join the BRICS group of emerging economies. The
new leader has already been tested at sea, with a Chinese coast guard
vessel being driven away three times from Indonesian-claimed waters by
Jakarta's ships last month. For Indonesia, the chance to host one of the
world's most advanced navies is clear. It will allow "capacity building
to be obtained" and for Jakarta to "exchange ideas" on maintaining
Russian equipment it already owns, said Curie Maharani Savitri, defence
analyst at Binus University.Indonesia has Russian-made amphibious tanks,
helicopters, missiles and fighter jets in its arsenal.- 'Introductory
phase' -Jakarta and Moscow have different maritime goals, with Indonesia
facing threats of smuggling and piracy while Russia is looking for
willing allies.Pieter said he expects the exercises to not be as
advanced as annual Super Garuda Shield drills Indonesia hosts with the
US and other allies."I think it's an introductory phase to the military
relationship between the two, especially on the naval side," he said. But
the drills may still raise eyebrows in Washington, which has been
trying to diplomatically isolate Russia. The US embassy in Jakarta
declined to comment on the drills. For Prabowo they allow him to send a
message about his new policy in the early days of his presidency, said
Pieter."Historically, the US has been the partner of choice for military
exercises. But... Indonesia has been trying to diversify its partners,"
he said."And I think there's an overall bigger trend of that."
Taiwan detects 37 Chinese aircraft near island by AFP Staff Writers.
Taipei
(AFP) Nov 3, 2024-Taiwan said it detected 37 Chinese fighter jets,
drones and other aircraft near the self-ruled island on Sunday as
Beijing carried out "long-distance" training flights.China has ramped up
military activity around Taiwan in recent years as Beijing pressures
Taipei to accept its claims of sovereignty over the island. The Chinese
aircraft were spotted from 9:00 am (0100 GMT) and 35 of them crossed the
median line of the Taiwan Strait, which separates mainland China and
Taiwan, and entered Taiwanese airspace on their way to the Western
Pacific Ocean, the defence ministry said.Taiwan's military responded by
deploying aircraft, naval vessels and shore-based missile systems, the
ministry said. The exercise came a day after Taiwan said it had detected a
Chinese military "joint combat readiness patrol" around the island
involving fighter jets and warships.Taiwan spotted 27 Chinese aircraft
and six warships in the 24 hours to 6:00 am on Sunday, the ministry said
earlier.China considers Taiwan part of its territory and has refused to
rule out the use of force to bring the democratic island under its
control.Beijing held large-scale military drills around Taiwan last
month, which were condemned by Taipei and its key backer the United
States. The Chinese military conducted long-distance training flights in
late September, the ministry said previously, when Beijing also fired an
intercontinental ballistic missile into the Pacific Ocean.
US bomber joins air drill with S. Korea, Japan by AFP Staff Writers.
Seoul
(AFP) Nov 3, 2024-South Korea, Japan, and the United States on Sunday
conducted a joint air drill involving a heavy bomber, Seoul's military
said, in response to North Korea's latest long-range missile test. The
exercise took place three days after Pyongyang launched one of its most
powerful and advanced solid-fuelled intercontinental ballistic missiles
(ICBM), which experts say could reach targets in the mainland US.The
drill mobilised the US' B-1B bomber, South Korea's F-15K and KF-16
fighter jets, and Japan's F-2 jets, Seoul's military said."The exercise
demonstrates the commitment of the ROK-US alliance to integrated
extended deterrence in response to the advancing nuclear and missile
threats from North Korea," said South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff in a
press release.During the aerial manoeuvre, South Korea and Japan's jets
escorted the US strategic bomber to a designated location south of the
Korean peninsula, "demonstrating an overwhelming capability to swiftly
and accurately strike simulated targets," it added. The B-1B Lancer is a
supersonic heavy bomber known for its high-speed performance with a
payload of 75,000 pounds (34,000 kilograms) of munitions, including both
conventional and precision-guided weapons. It was the fourth time this
year the bomber was deployed to the Korean peninsula, the military said,
and the second time for a trilateral aerial exercise to counter
Pyongyang's military threats. The North's latest ICBM launch is said to
have flown higher and further than any previous missile, according to
North Korea as well as Seoul and Tokyo's militaries, which tracked it in
real-time.The official Korean Central News Agency hailed it as "the
world's strongest strategic missile," and leader Kim "expressed great
satisfaction" at the successful launch.North Korea "would never change
its line of bolstering up its nuclear forces," the agency said. The
launch came amid growing international scrutiny over Pyongyang's
purported deployment of thousands of troops to Russia to support
Moscow's war efforts in Ukraine, raising concerns North Korean soldiers
in Russian uniforms could soon engage in combat.
WEEK OF DANIEL 9:27 WE KNOW ITS 7 YRS
The
King of Jerusalem[1] was the supreme ruler of the Kingdom of Jerusalem,
the Crusader state founded by Christian princes in 1099 when the First
Crusade took the city.Godfrey of Bouillon, the first ruler of the
Kingdom of Jerusalem, himself refused the title of king, and instead
chose the title "Defender of the Holy Sepulchre". Thus, the title of
king was only introduced for his successor, King Baldwin I in 1100. The
city of Jerusalem was lost in 1187, but the Kingdom of Jerusalem
survived (also known as the "Second Kingdom of Jerusalem"), moving its
capital to Acre in 1191. The city of Jerusalem was re-captured in the
Sixth Crusade, during 1229–39 and 1241–44. The Kingdom of Jerusalem was
finally dissolved with the fall of Acre and the end of the Crusades in
the Holy Land in 1291.After the Crusader States ceased to exist, the
title of King of Jerusalem was claimed by a number of European noble
houses descended from the kings of Cyprus or the kings of Naples. The
(purely ceremonial) title of King of Jerusalem is currently used by
Felipe VI of Spain. It was claimed by Otto von Habsburg as Habsburg
pretender, and by the kings of Italy until 1946.

Then
I saw that the second angel had a sickle in his hand, such as is used
in harvesting. The second angel said: "Harvest time has come in Israel
and the countries all the way to Iran."I saw those countries in a few
split seconds."All of Turkey and those [inaudible] countries that have
refused me and refused my message of love shall hate each other and kill
one another."I saw the angel raise the sickle and come down on all the
Middle East countries. I saw Iran, Persia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, all of
Georgia - Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, all of Asia Minor - full
of blood. I saw blood all over these countries. And I saw fire; Nuclear
weapons used in many of those countries. Smoke rising from everywhere.
Sudden destruction – men destroying one another. I heard these
words:"Israel, Oh Israel, the great judgment has come." The angel said,
"The chosen, the church, the remnant, shall be purified. The Spirit of
God shall prepare the children of God."I saw fires rising to heaven. The
angel said: "This is the final judgment. My church shall be purified,
protected and ready for the final day. Men will die from thirst. Water
shall be scarce all over the Middle East. Rivers shall dry up, and men
will fight for water in those countries."The angel showed me that the
United Nations shall be broken in pieces because of the crisis in the
Middle East. There shall be no more United Nations. The angel with the
sickle shall reap the harvest.

Israeli Think Tank
Urges Greater Jewish Outreach to Evangelicals-Pray for the well-being of
Yerushalayim, "May those who love you be at peace"Psalms 122:6 (the
israel bible) Staff Writer-Israel News-November 3, 2024
A
prominent Israeli think tank released a study last week emphasizing the
importance of Jewish outreach to evangelicals, especially critical in
light of the ongoing war. In “American Evangelicals, Jews, and Israel”,
the Jewish People Policy Institute (JPPI) urged Israeli decision makers
to explore “new strategies, promoting shared values and inclusivity to
maintain broad, stable support for Israel.”“With support for Israel
dropping among young evangelicals and minority groups, the JPPI is
correct in not only identifying the problems, but coming up with
important recommendations that I hope are closely studied by Israeli
decision makers,” commented Israel365 founder Rabbi Tuly Weisz. The
JPPI’s study on Israel and the Jewish community’s relationship with
evangelicals are summarized in a 70-page white paper and include the
following seven specific recommendations:Engagement with Evangelicals:
Israel should recognize the importance of evangelicals, enhancing
tourist, volunteer and student visa policies and participate in
Christian events to build relationships especially in North America.Fund
Pro Israel Initiatives: Support initiatives for young evangelicals,
particularly Black, Latino, and youth groups, highlighting shared
narratives like liberation and anti-racism, while allowing for some
Israeli policy criticism.Focus Groups: Establish focus groups to craft
effective messages for targeted evangelical groups, focusing on shared
values like Jerusalem’s significance and a narrative connecting divine
mission with redemption post-Holocaust.Orthodox Collaboration: Explore
partnerships between young Jewish Orthodox and evangelical students,
particularly in college, to foster mutual support based on common values
like faith and community.Latino Evangelical Support: Study Latino
evangelicals’ views on Israel, as their support may mirror that of White
evangelicals.Bridge-Building with Young Evangelicals: Engage young
evangelicals and young evangelicals of color to strengthen ties with
Jewish communities, using inclusive, populist messaging.New Department
for Christian Outreach: Create a new agency focused on Christian
interests in Israel and relationships with diverse evangelical groups in
North America.A webinar held last week featured opening remarks by JPPI
president Prof. Yedidia Stern and moderated by JPPI fellow Dr. Sara
Yael Hirschhorn. The webinar featured a panel discussion with Rev. Akaya
Kitchen, President, Lifting up Zion; Rev. David Parsons, International
Christian Embassy, Jerusalem; Prof. Gil Troy, Senior Fellow, JPPI and
Rabbi Steve Wernick, Beth Tzedec Congregation, Toronto.

Witches
Try to Curse Trump but Fail - “Do not turn to ghosts and do not inquire
of familiar spirits to be defiled by them, I am Hashem your

News-November 3, 2024
A Reddit thread has revealed a widespread
effort by self-proclaimed witches to block President Donald Trump’s
campaign. While this has happened in the past, for the first time, the
spellcasters are complaining that the spells are being blocked because
the GOP candidate has “some kind of protection around him.”The Toronto
Star reported on a group of about 100 witches who have been gathering
each month by Zoom to curse Trump. Armed with orange candles, tarot
cards, and a photo of Trump, they cast a spell to block his return to
the White House. The final words of their synchronized ritual—’You’re
fired!’—echo as Trump’s image burns to the ground,” the Star
reports.Another group of witches was led by Wendy Houseman, a D.C.-based
witch who left her corporate career to practice witchery full-time.
With 25,000 subscribers on her mailing list, she has invited all of them
to join her in a spell she calls “future-casting” to prevent Trump from
winning the election.Michael M. Hughes, one of the originators of the
Trump binding spell in 2017, suggested that these rituals gained
momentum in participation as the election neared.“There was a renewed
energy from witches once Kamala got the nomination,” he said. But despite
their best efforts, several posts report that the spells are being
blocked. “I hate to say this, but don’t do magic against him. He has a
form of protection surrounding him that feeds off of magic done against
him,” one post read. “You will have better results if you focus your
magic on helping his opponent or protecting yourself and others. I wish
it would work to bind him or do a freezer spell, but you will only be
helping him.”Reddit "Witches" are trying to cast spells on Trump but
they're upset because he has "some kind of protection around him."

2024-Trump has frequently been targeted by people who claim to practice
the dark arts.In 2017, Israel365 News reported that the noted mystic
spiritual leader Rabbi Nir Ben Artzi warned against witchcraft and black
magic making a comeback in the world in his weekly sermon. Rabbi Ben
Artzi warned that these dark powers would be used against world leaders
in an attempt to usurp God’s rule, explicitly mentioning President Trump
as a target of these dark powers. Rabbi Ben Artzi reassured his
followers that these efforts would prove futile.“[God] rules the world,
and not the powers of impurity. Idol worshippers look to the stars and
tell fortunes in tea cups, using tarot cards, and other methods. They
believe these things rule the future,” the rabbi said.

CBS News tells reporters: “Jerusalem is not in Israel”If I forget you, O
Yerushalayim, let my right hand wither;Psalms 136:5 (the israel
bible)Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz-Jerusalem-October 11, 2024
According
to a recent report, Mark Memmott, CBS News’s senior director of
standards and practices, emailed all of its employees in August,
instructing them to “be careful with some terms when we talk or write
about the news” from Israel and Gaza. According to the report in The
Free Press, the employees were instructed that when referring to
Jerusalem, “Do not refer to it as being in Israel.” It should be
emphasized that this instruction was issued to thousands of journalists
and reporters. “Yes, the U.S. embassy is there and the Trump
administration recognized it as being Israel’s capital. But its status
is disputed. The status of Jerusalem goes to the heart of the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Israel regards Jerusalem as its ‘eternal
and undivided’ capital, while the Palestinians claim East
Jerusalem—occupied by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war—as the capital
of a future state.”The story comes as part of ongoing revelations made
by The Free Press on “a double standard exists for journalism at CBS
when it relates to Israel and Jews.”Jerusalem was unified in the 1967
Six-Day War and annexed in its entirety by the Israeli government under
the Basic Law: Jerusalem, Capital of Israel passed by the Knesset on 30
July 1980.The US government has recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital
under the Jerusalem Embassy Act passed by Congress in 1995.A previous
report revealed a meeting of CBS Mornings’ editorial team Tuesday that
included a debate about whether it is “fair to talk about whether Israel
should exist at all.” During the debate, Tony Dokoupil was admonished
for his tough questioning of Ta-Nehisi Coates about the inaccuracies and
anti-Israel views expressed in his new book, The Message. Coates was
provided the questions before the interview by co-host Gayle King. “Why
leave out that Israel is surrounded by countries that want to eliminate
it? Why leave out that Israel deals with terror groups that want to
eliminate it?” Dokoupil had asked Coates. One CBS employee told the Free
Press that the controversy surrounding Dokoupil has revealed a double
standard at the network. “There is a huge difference between how all
ethnic or minority groups are treated and how Jews and Jewish issues are
treated,” the CBS insider said. “The rule of thumb is: If you are
Jewish and you are interested in reporting on Jews or Jewish issues,
that’s a ‘hold on’ or a ‘no,’ whereas for any other group it would be an
enthusiastic ‘yes.’”Dokoupil is Jewish and his ex-wife and two children
live in Israel.
Sanhedrin Counts the Jubilee Cycle in
Jerusalem-And you shall hallow the fiftieth year. You shall proclaim
release throughout the land for all its inhabitants. It shall be a
jubilee for you: each of you shall return to his holding and each of you
shall return to his family.Leviticus 25:10 (the israel bible) Adam
Eliyahu Berkowitz-Biblical News-October 23, 2024
On Sunday, eight
members of the nascent Sanhedrin appeared in Jerusalem near the Temple
Mount to bless the new year in the Jubilee cycle. When Rosh Hashana
ended, it was time for Jews to count the tenth year of the Jubilee
cycle. The blessing and the count are as follows:Baruch Atah Adonai
Elohenu Melech Ha-olam, Asher Kidshanu B’Mitsvotav, V’Tsivanu Al Sfirat
Shemittim v’Yovalot.Blessed art thou, Ruler of the Universe, who
sanctifies us in his commandments, and has commanded us to count the
sabbaticals and the Jubilees.Hashana HaZot Hee Hashanna Hachamisha
La’Yovel Harishon v’Hashanna Hashnia LaShmitta Rishon Bayovel
Harishon. This year is the tenth year of the first Jubilee, which is one
‘week’ and three years for the first sabbatical in the first Jubilee. The
Shemitah is part of a larger framework of seven Shemitah (sabbatical)
cycles, in which we count 49 years, and then the 50th year is the
Jubilee year, as described in Leviticus. And you shall hallow the
fiftieth year. You shall proclaim release throughout the land for all
its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you: each of you shall return
to his holding and each of you shall return to his family. Leviticus
25:10-In Judaism, it is a positive religious commandment “to sanctify
the 50th year” (Leviticus 25:8). In actual practice, the
Biblically-mandated requirement to observe the Jubilee year was
disrupted when the 10 Tribes were exiled approximately 2,700 years ago.
Prior to that time, the Jews were careful about counting the cycles
leading to the Jubilee year. They observed all the Biblical requirements
of the Jubilee year, including freeing slaves and returning property to
its original owner. The Jubilee year is observed only when all of the
Nation of Israel is in the Land of Israel. Therefore, when the Jews
returned from the Babylonian Exile, since many chose to remain in the
Diaspora, the Jubilee was not observed. For the same reason, the Jubilee
was not observed in modern Israel. This all changed in 2016 when the
Sanhedrin ruled that the conditions for counting the Jubilee existed.
When Rosh Hashana ended, it was time for Jews to count the fifth year of
the Jubilee cycle. The Jubilee can still be counted. The blessing and
the count are as follows:Observance of the Jubilee is dependent upon
most of Israel being in the land of Israel. There are 5 mitzvot
connected to the Jubilee: counting the Jubilee, letting free slaves,
returning land, blowing the shofar, and forgiving debts. On the Jubilee,
the shofar of an ibex is blown to announce freedom to the land. An ibex
represents freedom, because of the character of the ibex itself, running
free in the mountains. The Jerusalem Talmud says that you blow a shofar
from a rare animal to announce freedom, which is a rare and wonderful
thing. To begin counting the Jubilee in 2018, the Sanhedrin, as a bet din
(rabbinic court), ruled that the Jews have returned to inherit the land
as a nation and not just as individuals. This requires at least 600,000
Jews, equal to the number of Israelites that returned to Israel from
Egypt under Joshua. It is interesting to note that despite the actions of
the Jews determining the initiation of the Shemitah year, the first
Shemitah year was a multiple of seven since the creation of the world,
according to the Jewish calendar. The year after the destruction of the
Second Temple, 3829, was also known to be a Shemitah year, 547
seven-year cycles since the world’s creation. The current Hebrew year is
5780; precisely 825 Shemitah cycles plus five years.According to Jewish
tradition, re-establishing the Biblically-mandated Jubilee year is part
of the messianic process.“On that day, will I raise up the fallen booth
(Sukkah) of David.” Amos 9:11This verse comes in the context of a
prophecy about God bringing the nation of Israel back from exile among
the nations. Amidst descriptions of the days preceding the Messiah, the
Babylonian Talmud in the Tractate of Sanhedrin, 97a, explains the verse
from Amos and its implications.“As it is written, in that day I will
raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen. Our Rabbis taught: in
the seven-year cycle at the end of which the son of David will come-in
the first year, this verse will be fulfilled.”
Musk amplifies conservative voices in liberal Silicon Valley By Julie JAMMOT.
San
Francisco (AFP) Nov 1, 2024-Silicon Valley, a stronghold of Democratic
politics, is experiencing a shift as more voices, seemingly emboldened
by Elon Musk, have openly declared their support for Donald Trump. The
South African-born tech mogul is leading this change, committing nearly
$100 million to the Republican's presidential campaign, while leveraging
his X social media platform and personally campaigning in crucial swing
states to aid Trump's White House bid."Musk is revered by a lot of
people in Silicon Valley," said tech entrepreneur and author Vivek
Wadhwa, who teaches at Carnegie Mellon University."More people on the
right are just saying 'Look, we're fed up, we're going to vote for
Trump,' and they're doing it fearlessly and are impacting the opinion of
others."Musk's embrace of Trump has amplified ideological currents that
have long existed quietly in the California tech scene, best
represented today by Peter Thiel, a conservative investor who worked
with Musk at PayPal 25 years ago.PayPal veteran David Sacks, a college
friend of Thiel's, co-hosted a high-profile fundraiser for Trump in San
Francisco in June and spoke at the Republicans' nominating
convention.Nick Pinkston, founder and CEO of Volition, noted that many
conservative voices, led by Thiel, have always been present, guided by
libertarian principles."Some of those people were already conservative,
and now they're given more license to speak," he said.According to
Pinkston, who closely follows tech-world politics, this group has grown
disillusioned with today's version of democracy and sees Trump as a
ticket to less government and lower taxes.- 'It's gone too far' -Trump
secured only 34 percent of California's vote in 2020 -- and just 12.7
percent in San Francisco -- but recent developments have given voice to
anti-progressive sentiment.A perceived, if statistically nonexistent,
rise in crime, and the city's strict Covid-19 regulations, which led to
the temporary closure of companies like Tesla, drew bitter criticism,
with Republicans slamming San Francisco as out of control."San Francisco
is far more left than the rest of the country, and many people think
it's gone too far," said Sheel Mohnot, a Fintech investor. "We have a
lot of problems -- crime, homelessness, et cetera -- and people are just
wanting to pivot hard against that."These Silicon Valley conservatives
argue that progressive policies focusing on diversity, inclusion and
LGBTQ+ rights have come at the expense of addressing crime and taxes,
and advancing innovation."People are fed up with the extremism of the
proclaimed progressives, how they have made San Francisco a complete
mess and chased out companies such as Tesla," Wadhwa said.Pinkston
insisted that most tech workers remain relatively apolitical but vote
Democratic in presidential elections."The typical worker is a centrist
Democrat," he said, and not part of a group "that spends a lot of time
thinking about women, for sure."Abortion rights, protected in California
but abolished or sharply limited in many American states, are a major
theme of Democrat Kamala Harris's presidential campaign. For Lawrence
Quill, professor of political theory at San Jose State University, the
start-ups of the early days of innovation have grown up."In the 1970s
and '80s, technology companies...thought of themselves as
revolutionaries, good guys.""That simplistic view of morality is hard to
maintain in a global marketplace," he said, adding, "Consider the
issues surrounding Apple and Google doing business in China."- Many
techies still lay low -While some billionaire tech leaders, notably
including Musk, have been outspoken, most are avoiding political
involvement.Trump's relationship with this group has been contentious.
During his presidency, he frequently criticized Amazon, allegedly
denying the company a major defense contract due to his animosity toward
founder Jeff Bezos.Bezos recently prohibited the Washington Post, which
he owns, from endorsing any presidential candidate, while Amazon CEO
Andy Jassy reportedly initiated informal discussions with Trump.Other
tech giants are similarly distancing themselves from politics and trying
not to offend Trump.Mark Zuckerberg has stopped election-related
philanthropy, while his company Meta has modified its algorithms to
reduce political content.Trump claims to have received calls from Google
CEO Sundar Pichai and Apple CEO Tim Cook. But as their bosses lay low,
opponents to Musk and Trump still outnumber their fans among
"techies.""Objectively, 'you' are the biggest threat to democracy in
America today," Meta's chief AI scientist Yann LeCun replied to a Musk
post last week."You are an oligarch who bought himself a huge megaphone
so he could use it to support a would-be dictator, and to
discredit...all the institutions necessary for a functioning democracy,"
he added.
