Air Scare-2 Israelis arrested for flying drones over Vatican-Tourists’ drone grounded for violating airspace ban in Rome at the start of Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy year-By Sue Surkes December 29, 2015, 10:55 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL
Was it a bird? Was it a plane? Or was it the coming to pass of Psalm 40, which proclaims that “those who hope in God will soar on wings like eagles?”Sadly, the answer was more prosaic, when Italian police spotted a drone flying over the Tiber River and St Peter’s Square on Sunday, and traced its remote control to the hands of one of two vacationing Israelis taking holiday snaps from Umberto Bridge near St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City.The police were on routine patrol to crack down on illegal vendors around the popular tourist area, according to a report by The Local. The men, both aged 33, were taken for questioning and will likely face charges for airspace violation.The drone, equipped with high resolution cameras, broke a ban on remote-controlled aircraft over Rome imposed earlier this month, at the start of the Catholic Church’s Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy.The jubilee was announced by Pope Francis in April and runs from December 8 until November 20, 2016. It is intended to be a period for the pardoning of sins.Rome’s airspace is closed for the year out of fear that terrorists could use aircraft to attack the capital.Drones have been banned at tourist sites worldwide because of security fears and arrests have been made both in Paris and in Yellowstone National Park in the US.In October last year, an Israeli tourist was nabbed in front of the Notre Dame Cathedral while flying a drone above some of Paris’s main attractions. He was slapped with a 400-euro ($500) fine after spending the night in jail.One month before that, a Dutch tourist was fined for flying a drone in Yellowstone Park.
Likud approves PM’s call for early leadership primaries-Powerful central committee also picks Welfare Minister Haim Katz as replacement for former chairman Danny Danon-By Raoul Wootliff and Sue Surkes December 29, 2015, 11:56 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL
The Likud party’s powerful central committee voted Tuesday to approve Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s request for early leadership primaries, which he argued would allow the Likud to be “ready for every scenario,” including national elections.The one-day ballot also saw the election of Welfare Minister Haim Katz as the new head of the central committee. Katz replaces Danny Danon, who left the post to become Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations earlier this year.Of the 3,532 members of the committee, 2,891 — or 82 percent — cast their votes.The Likud leadership vote will now be held on February 23, a move that the prime minister told senior Likud activists Sunday would stabilize the governing coalition. Netanyahu, whose coalition has a razor-thin majority, took part in an emergency central committee meeting Monday in an effort to persuade activists to support his proposal to bring forward the party leadership vote. He canceled the weekly Knesset faction meeting in order to attend.“Tomorrow a chairman of the Likud Central Committee will be elected and I wish good luck to all the contenders,” Netanyahu said in a statement Monday. “In addition it’s important to complete the elections for chairman of the Likud party and its nominee for the premiership in order to unite the movement and ensure that there is no division and partisanship,” the prime minister said.“We want to be ready for every scenario,” he continued. “And if something happens — we do, after all, have a coalition of 61 [MKs] — and we find ourselves faced with elections, we’ll be ready.”Opponents have argued that bringing forward the primaries instead of holding them closer in time to the next general elections may stymie attempts by potential competitors to run against the prime minister, thus securing Netanyahu’s position as the leading candidate.A year ago, facing a shaky coalition, Netanyahu brought the leadership primaries forward; in that instance, the aim was to prevent rival Gideon Sa’ar from mounting a successful counterbid for the leadership. Sa’ar subsequently pulled out of the race.On Thursday, the retired politician announced that he would not run for the next Likud primaries either. Taking to Twitter, Sa’ar called the snap primaries a piece of theater, and said he would not participate.“I’m not in the habit of being a marionette. I wish Netanyahu success in running, as well as to all of the other actors in the play,” he wrote in answer to a journalist’s query.Primaries, which are conducted by several Israeli political parties, enable party members — rather than internal committees — to elect a leader and the lists of candidates for general elections. In June, Netanyahu fought off a bid to have the power to choose candidates returned to the Likud Central Committee.Marissa Newman contributed to this report.
US spied on Netanyahu’s anti Iran deal lobbying — report-Despite promising to curb eaves dropping on foreign leaders, White House had NSA listen in on conversations between Israeli leaders and US lawmakers, according to Wall Street Journal-By Times of Israel staff December 30, 2015, 1:49 am
The White House instructed US spies to eavesdrop on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other top Israeli officials earlier this year in an effort to counter campaigning against the Iran nuclear deal, despite promising to curtail listening in on foreign leaders, according to a Wall Street Journal report late Tuesday.The National Security Agency’s spying dragnet was cast so wide it caught conversations Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders had with US officials and Jewish American leaders, leading to what one source called an “oh shit moment,” when the extent became clear according to the report, which cites several current and former US officials.The White House and other administration officials refused to comment on the report to the New York-based publication. There was no immediate comment in Jerusalem on the report, which was released just before midnight Israel time.Much of the spying was focused on gaining an intelligence on what Israeli and Jewish figures were doing to campaign US lawmakers to oppose the nuclear deal, inked between Iran and six world powers and July.One senior US official told the daily the NSA was looking “to give [the administration] an accurate illustrative picture of what [the Israelis] were doing.”According to the report, the White House learned through the spying how “how Mr. Netanyahu and his advisers had leaked details of the US-Iran negotiations—learned through Israeli spying operations—to undermine the talks; coordinated talking points with Jewish-American groups against the deal; and asked undecided lawmakers what it would take to win their votes.”When confronted about leaking confidential details from the talks to US lawmakers, Israelis rebuffed the allegations, according to the report.An Israeli Embassy spokesperson in Washington also told the Wall Street Journal that allegations that Israeli officials told US Jewish groups how to lobby Congress on their behalf were “total nonsense.”The Israeli effort against the nuclear deal failed and Congress, given oversight over the landmark pact, voted against it in September, but without enough support to override a presidential veto.The issue, and plain-faced Israeli campaign against the administration of US president Barack Obama, polarized ties between Jerusalem and Washington, as well as between Obama and Netanyahu, which had been shaky for years amid disputes over how to deal with Iran’s nuclear program and the moribund peace process with the Palestinians.Though Obama promised in 2013 to curb American spying on foreign leaders, following revelations of NSA spying on allies leaked by whisteblower Edward Snowden, an official said the idea of stopping tracking Netanyahu was barely entertained.“Going dark on Bibi? Of course we wouldn’t do that,” the paper quoted as senior US administration official saying, using a nickname for the prime minister.According to the report, spying on Jerusalem included “a cyber implant in Israeli networks,” giving the NSA access to information in Netanyahu’s office.After concerns were raised that the NSA was spying on conversations between US lawmakers and Netanyahu or other Israeli officials, the White House told the NSA to decide what info to give out, allowing them to mask the names of US citizens being spied on.In October, the Wall Street Journal reported that the US spied on the Israeli air bases and secret communications in 2012, fearing an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities was in the works.According to the report, “[n]erves frayed at the White House” when the US discovered Israeli air activity over Iran, and Washington dispatched an aircraft carrier to the Mideast and also prepared attack aircraft, in case, as one senior American official told the Journal, “all hell broke loose.”At the same time, US intelligence was monitoring Israeli communications to ensure that Jerusalem was unaware of secret backchannel meeting between the US and Iran taking place in Oman, the paper reported.
THIS STORY IS THE MOST REDICULAS I HAVE EVER HEARD.IT WAS ADAMS RIB WERE GOD CREATED THE WOMAN FROM.
GENESIS 2:21-25
21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
Flaccid response-Claim Eve came from Adam’s penis dismissed as phallacy-Christian readers tell periodical where to get off after Dr. Ziony Zevit argues that Hebrew word ‘tsela’ refers to penile bone which humans no longer possess-By Times of Israel staff December 30, 2015, 2:26 am
Christians have shafted a claim by a biblical literature professor that tradition’s first woman, Eve, was created not out of Adam’s ribs but his penile bone.The human penis lacks the baculum — a bone found in the phalluses of placental animals such as gorillas and chimpanzees. It helps animals to maintain stiffness during long periods of mating.Several theories for this anatomical absence have been put forward over the years. One says that the tendency of humans to form long-term couple relationships rendered long-lasting bone- related rigidity redundant because sexual intercourse takes place frequently and for short periods only.Evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins suggested that females tested the physical and mental states of prospective suitors via the man’s ability to rise to the occasion without the need of a bone.But Dr. Ziony Zevit, distinguished professor of Biblical Literature and Northwest Semitic Languages at the American Jewish University (University of Judaism), links the flight of the phallus bone to the creation of Eve, claiming that the correct way to understand the Hebrew word for “rib” — tsela — in the Book of Genesis is as “limbs lateral to the vertical axis of an erect human body: hands, feet, or, in the case of males, the penis.”He asserts that this real meaning was subsequently lost in translation. Tsela was first translated as “rib” in the Septuagint, a Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible dating to the mid-third century B.C.E.Zevit’s argument, first presented in his book 2103 book “What Really Happened in the Garden of Eden?” resurfaced recently in an article, “Was Eve Made from Adam’s Rib—or His Baculum?” published in the September/October 2015 issue of Biblical Archaeology Review, a top periodical for the quasi-scientific field attempting to reconcile the Bible to historical finds.The Daily Express newspaper reported on Tuesday that the article has turned into a major bone of contention for some Christian readers.“I write to express my disappointment with your magazine. I wish to cancel my subscription,” wrote Sue Glaze from Oakland, Maryland. “Come on now, Eve being created from Adam’s penis bone, rather than his rib? That is plainly not a Bible teaching. I do not need and will not read articles that damage my faith or attempts to cause me to doubt what I know is the truth from the Bible.”The Rev. Randall L Krabill wrote: “How does Ziony Zevit’s article have anything to do with Biblical archaeology? “I have never purchased a tabloid magazine in my life — and I have no intention of ever doing so. I certainly didn’t realize that was what I was doing when I subscribed to BAR.”Rev Don Brubacher, from Canada, called the theory “laughable” and “outlandish”, the paper reported. Brubacher said: “As Jesus scathingly said: ‘You blind guides! You strain out a gnat and swallow a camel.’ (Matthew 23:24).”
