FALSE POPE FROM THE VATICAN
ISAIAH 23:15-17
15 And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot.
16 Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered.
17 And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth.(COULD THIS BE 70 YEARS AFTER ISRAEL BECAME A NATION IN 1948)(IF SO THIS SATANIC ONE WORLD WHORE CHURCH WILL MINGLE TOGETHER BY 2018)(AND NOW ISLAM AND CHRISTIANITY AND ALL RELIGIONS ARE MINGLING AS ONE PEACE-LOVE-JOY-GET ALONG RELIGION LEAD BY THE VATICAN RIGHT NOW 4 YEARS FROM THE 70 YEAR TIME WHEN ISRAEL BECAME A NATION).AND IN CONTROL OF JERUSALEM.

12 And he (FALSE RELIGIOUS LEADER) exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him,(WORLD DICTATOR) and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.(THE WORLD DICTATOR CREATES A FALSE RESURRECTION AND IS CROWNED LEADER OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER).
13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
REVELATION 17:1-5,9,15-18
1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication,(VATICAN IN POLITICS) and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
4 And the woman (FALSE CHURCH) was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour,(VATICAN COLOURS)(ANOTHER REASON WE KNOW THE FALSE POPE COMES FROM THE VATICAN) and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.(THE VATICAN IS BUILT ON 7 HILLS OR MOUNTAINS)
10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen,(1-ASSYRIA,2-EGYPT,3-BABYLON,4-MEDO-PERSIA,5-GREECE) and one is,(IN POWER IN JOHNS AND JESUS DAY-6-ROME) and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.(7TH-REVIVED ROMAN EMPIRE OR THE EUROPEAN UNION TODAY AND THE SHORT SPACE IS-THE EUROPEAN UNION WILL HAVE WORLD CONTROL FOR THE LAST 3 1/2 YEARS.BUT WILL HAVE ITS MIGHTY WORLD POWER FOR THE FULL 7 YEARS OF THE 7 YEAR TRIBULATION PERIOD.AND THE WORLD DICTATOR WILL BE THE BEAST FROM THE EU.AND THE VATICAN POPE WILL BE THE WHORE THAT RIDES THE EUROPEAN UNION TO POWER.AND THE 2 EUROPEAN UNION POWER FREAKS WILL CONTROL AND DECIEVE THE WHOLE EARTH INTO THEIR DESTRUCTION.IF YOU ARE NOT SAVED BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS.YOU WILL BE DECIEVED BY THESE TWO.THE WORLD POLITICIAN-THE EUROPEAN UNION DICTATOR.AND THE FALSE PROPHET THAT DEFECTS CHRISTIANITY-THE FALSE VATICAN POPE.
15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.(VATICAN-CATHOLICS ALL AROUND THE WORLD OVER 1 BILLION)
16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast,(WORLD DICTATOR) these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.(BOMB OR NUKE THE VATICAN)
17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

Georg Gaensxein is Prefect of the Papal Household, and Personal Secretary of the Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. It was him who withdrew the signature of Benedict XVI from the controversial book-Father Georg, the right hand of two Popes-Giacomo Galeazzi-Pubblicato il-18 Gennaio 2020-Ultima modifica
18 Gennaio 2020-7:01
VATICAN CITY. In the morning, in the audience, Georg Gaenswein sits smiling next to Pope Francis. In the afternoon, he returns as guardian angel and watchful eye of the retired prelate, Benedict XVI. The change has never frightened him.As a young man, he had long hair and listened to Cat Stevens. At 47—in not exactly in a peaceful manner—he took over from Josef Clemens, Ratzinger's historic secretary, just in time to lead him to the papal throne. Then, like a whirlwind, he emerged stronger after the Vatileaks scandal, the shocking abdication of Benedict XVI, and the election of Pope Francis. This is the story of how Archbishop Georg Gaenswein rose to the top to serve not one, but two Popes, in his time. He is both Prefect of the Papal Household, and Personal Secretary of the Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. The "third pontiff"Endowed with acrobatic talent (otherwise demonstrated on the tennis courts and in the swimming pool built at the villa of Castel Gandolfo), Gaenswein has became a driving force in the Curia, almost like “a third pope.” This was only meant to be a characteristic and a way to normalize the fact that there were two Popes, but instead it ended up at the heart of a media frenzy. On Tuesday it was him who withdrew the signature of Benedict XVI from the controversial book on celibacy which, as already for the sacraments for the divorced and remarried at the Synod on the family, inevitably catapulted Ratzinger to the far right of the traditionalist branch, together with co-author Robert Sarah and other anti-Bergoglio cardinals such as Gerhard Müller and Raymond Burke. "The Pope Emeritus had not approved any plans to co-author book; it was a misunderstanding," said Gaenswein. Among the ultra-conservative, this is enough to believe he played both hands, by measure the access to Benedict XVI under internal opposition, and then discredit it in the face of Francis' indignation. "Given his role and abilities, [he’s] like the black box of the Vatican mysteries of the last decade. Nobody dares to touch him, at least as long as Ratzinger is alive,” Vatican insiders say. Who doesn’t question his loyalty is Benedict XVI, with whom Don Georg has never concealed an effective participation that says a lot about his personality and the alleged desire to "be as transparent as glass so as not to obscure Benedict XVI in any way". He was crying visibly on February 28, 2013 when together (like father and son), him and Ratzinger left the apartment of the Terzia Loggia.Just as he excited, three weeks later, Don Georg returned with Bergoglio, removed the seals, and helped him to push open a door and turn on the light. And while Francis said that the Holy Spirit inspired the renunciation of his predecessor for the good of the Church, Don Georg appeared truly moved. In the spotlight, he walks with Pope Francis, while behind the scenes he shares his secrets and knowledge of the eight years of Ratzinger's pontificate, including pending dossiers and financial troubles. He is the ferryman between the two popes. He occupies a unique position in ecclesiastical history: a bridge between the reigning Pope and the emeritus one. As Prefect of the Papal Household and Personal Secretary of the Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, Don Georg acts essentially as a transmission belt in the insidious era of the two Popes. It was him, on behalf of Ratzinger, who managed the handover of the thorniest issues. In the intentions of Benedict XVI, the presence (and the advice) of the German prelate was the way to help and protect Bergoglio in the curial meanders. It was him who kept tabs on the the three cardinal investigators Herranz, Tomko, De Giorgi on the theft of documents. In the Sala Clementina, he joined the new pope in the act of tribute to the conclavists. The Archbishop of Warsaw sked him to greet him Ratzinger and introudce his compatriot Stanislao Dziwisz, former secretary of Wojtyla, but he said no.

Coronavirus could shut 70,000 Israeli businesses this year, report warns-Since start of pandemic, there has been a 70% drop in number of new businesses, mainly due to economic uncertainty, Dun & Bradstreet says-By Shoshanna Solomon-MAY 14,20-Today, 3:55 pm
Israel could see a 50 percent jump in the number of businesses shutting down this year, to some 70,000, because of the coronavirus crisis, business data firm Dun & Bradstreet forecast in a report on the pandemic and its impact on the Israeli economy. This year will thus become the first year in a decade in which the number of businesses that close down will overtake the number of businesses that have opened this year, the report said, with a net contraction of 30,000 businesses, compared to a net growth of 11,000 new businesses in 2019, the report said.In the past few years, some 55,000 new businesses were set up annually, while some 40,000 to 45,000 shut down per year. In 2019, 56,500 new businesses were set up, and 45,500 shut down.Since the start of the crisis, there has been a 70% decline in the number of new businesses being set up, the data showed, due mainly to the uncertainty over developments on the ground due to virus-related restrictions.Closed shops and restaurants in Tel Aviv, March 15, 2020. (Miriam Alster/FLASH90) “Business owners find it very difficult to make decisions in conditions of uncertainty, when there is no certainty for expected revenues and people expect cash flow management difficulties,” the report said. In addition, the high unemployment rate and lower consumption levels to which this could lead make it less attractive to open up a new business at this time. The fashion industry, already suffering from competition with online sales, will suffer even more because of the coronavirus restrictions. More than 1,000 fashion stores are expected to exit the sector during 2020, the report said, a 33% increase over the number of shores that shut last year. In 2019, some 750 fashion stores closed, the report said.In the bars, restaurants and coffee shops industry was already considered a risky business, with only 60 percent surviving beyond two years, and 66% closing or changing the way they operate within five years. Before the crisis there were some 11,500 bars and restaurants and food stalls, the report said. Some 3,000-3,500 restaurants open each year, while 2,500-3,000 restaurants close each year.In 2020, because of the pandemic, there will be a 40% increase in the number of businesses that will shut down in this sector, with more than 4,000 restaurants and eateries expected to close, accompanied by a decline in the opening of new ones. The number of active businesses in the industry will thus contract this year by some 15%-20%, the report said.In the real estate market, the report said, the coronavirus has created a shortage of some 50,000 workers, with Palestinian workers not allowed to enter Israel due to the lockdown, and a shortage of products like cement, aluminum and ceramic tiles. This has caused the construction industry to post a 50% decline in productivity, and is generating delays in the delivery and approval of new projects.Because of the high levels of unemployment, which at the height at the crisis reached 27%, compared to 3.4% pre-coronavirus, consumers are more hesitant to buy homes. The industry entered the crisis with the demand for homes exceeding supply, the report said, and in the longer term this trend is set to continue, with demand rising again.

Full text: Policy principles of Israel’s 35th government-‘An emergency unity government of national conciliation’: Official agreement on the goals of the new Netanyahu-Gantz coalition-By TOI staff-MAY 14,20-Today, 3:50 pm
The following is the full document of the “Policy principles of the 35th government of Israel,” released by the Likud and Blue and White parties on Wednesday, May 13, 2020:The State of Israel, like the rest of the world, has been hit by a medical and economic crisis of historical proportions as a result of the spread of the coronavirus, and has thus established an emergency unity government of national conciliation that will operate along the following lines:A. The Israeli government will form an emergency cabinet to deal with all issues related to the coronavirus crisis. This cabinet will take an integrative approach, overseeing measures related both to the economic-social and medical aspects of the crisis.B.In the first stage, the new government will focus on measures to defeat the epidemic, including procuring necessary equipment, coordinating between the different bodies, and bolstering the public health system during the state of emergency and generally.C. The government will lead a plan to extract Israel from the profound economic crisis and formulate and approve a state budget designed to meet the challenges posed by the epidemic. The plan will offer solutions related to employment as well as support for the business sector, the self-employed and the third sector.D. The government will roll out a socio-economic safety net for all citizens and design targeted programs to address the needs of specific populations particularly struggling financially and socially.E. The government will work to achieve these goals while boosting the economy and accelerating growth through increasing productivity, promoting investments, removing regulatory and bureaucratic barriers, advancing reforms to heighten competition and preserve fiscal frameworks.Furthermore, based on the conviction that the Jewish people has the inviolable right to a sovereign state in the Land of Israel, the national and historic homeland of the Jewish people, the government will also address all issues relating to the peace, security and prosperity of Israel, in the following areas, amongst others:1. The government will strengthen national security, strive for peace, ensure the welfare and security of the entirety of Israel’s citizens, act decisively to remove any threat to the State of Israel and its residents, and strive to constantly improve the sense of personal safety of every citizen.2. The government will aim to narrow social disparities in Israel, and will work to create equal opportunity for every Israeli citizen, regardless of ethnicity, gender or origin.3. The government will work to boost the Israeli economy, increase productivity, encourage investment in the Israeli economy, and increase competition to fuel growth.4. The government will work in principle and in practice to bridge between the different parts of the nation and the country and will operate from an overarching attitude of national reconciliation. To that end, a reconciliation cabinet will be formed to coordinate and streamline all relevant activity.5. The government will work to preserve the Jewish and democratic character of the state.6. The government will ensure that, given the attachment to Jewish tradition, the country’s Jewish character will be preserved, while respecting the religions and traditions of the different peoples, in alignment with the principles enshrined in Israel’s Declaration of independence.7. The government will place a particular emphasis on Jewish immigration and absorption and will work decisively to increase Jewish immigration from across the world and ensure the successful integration of immigrants.8. The government will act to strengthen Israel’s social and geographic periphery, the Negev, the Galil, and Jewish settlement across Israel.9. The government will act to promote conduct, discourse and activity in a statesmanlike, lawabiding manner that is respectful and unifies the different components of Israeli society in its entirety, even during times of disagreement.
Pompeo didn’t fly ‘halfway around the world to talk annexation’ – US official-Unnamed State Department officials say West Bank was not top issue but there were talks on Iranian threat, which is ‘severe and getting worse on some fronts,’ coronavirus and China-By Raphael Ahren and TOI staff-MAY 14,20-Today, 10:53 am
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo did not make a lightning trip to Israel just to speak about West Bank annexation, an unnamed senior US official said Wednesday, following the top American envoy’s whirlwind visit to Israel amid the coronavirus pandemic. Two US State Department officials, speaking anonymously during a press briefing, said the the issue of annexation was not “the top line in Pompeo’s talks.”“We should dispel the notion that we flew halfway around the world to talk about annexation,” one official said when asked about the issue.
Pompeo was in Israel for less than 12 hours, though it took him approximately double that time to fly to Israel and back, raising questions about the point of the trip.
Pompeo met separately with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and incoming defense minister Benny Gantz, as well as with incoming foreign minister Gabi Ashkenazi. On photos distributed to the press after the meetings, the US top diplomat was not seen to have toiled over maps of the West Bank. One of the administration’s conditions for annexation is the completion of a US-Israel mapping committee working to determine the exact boundaries of Israeli sovereignty.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, left, meet PM Netanyahu at his Jerusalem residence, May 13, 2020 (Kobi Gideon/PMO)
The officials said Iran and China had been the main issues discussed, as well as Israel’s widening air campaign in Syria.
Pompeo’s work at the State Department has focused on Iran, China, Venezuela and other issues, while the administration’s peace plan is mostly handled by a team headed by Jared Kushner, a senior aide to President Donald Trump.
Asked whether they believe Israel will go ahead with annexing parts of the West Bank, one official said that they were “working with the Israelis to implement the Vision for Peace,” referring to the Trump administration’s Middle East plan, which envisions Israeli annexation of wide swaths of the West Bank as well as efforts toward Palestinian statehood on the remaining land.“We’re supportive of their efforts. They’ve got a coalition government that has various strands. And I think it’s going to take them a while to come together with what they’re going to do,” the official said.An Israeli flag is seen in the E1 area of the West Bank on January 2, 2017. (Yonatan Sindel/Flash90)-The US administration has said it would recognize Israeli sovereignty over the entire Jordan Valley and all Israeli settlements across the West Bank in exchange for assurances that Jerusalem would be ready to negotiate a peace deal with the Palestinians based on Trump’s plan.Various reports suggested that the administration may want to ask the Israeli government not to rush into applying sovereignty, but Pompeo has repeatedly said that annexation is an Israeli decision.Pompeo said Wednesday at the conclusion of his visit to Jerusalem that the incoming Israeli government has “the right and the obligation” to decide if and how it wants to apply sovereignty over the West Bank.“We had a good conversation about how to go forward. They will need to find a way together to proceed,” he said in an interview with the Israel Hayom daily, referring to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and incoming defense minister Benny Gantz, who will also be alternate prime minister.“I reminded them that, at the end of the day, this is an Israeli decision,” the US top diplomat went on, in comments translated into Hebrew. “They will have both the right and the obligation to make a decision on how they are going to do it.”Under the coalition deal signed between Netanyahu and Gantz, the premier can bring forward legislation to annex West Bank settlements and the Jordan Valley on July 1. The agreement says that any annexation step must be coordinated with the US while also keeping regional stability and peace agreements in consideration, but does not give Gantz veto power if the widely condemned move does not win international agreement, which he had previously said his support depended upon. k,mA document released Wednesday night outlining the new government’s basic policies listed the desire to “strive for peace” but did not explicitly refer to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the US peace plan or an annexation of West Bank territory. The State Department officials said that talks during Pompeo’s visit focused on other “major priorities” including the Iranian threat, which is “actually severe and getting worse on some fronts.”The officials noted that Tehran’s nuclear activities were ramping up and that it was continuing to act in Syria amid “what appears to be increased Israeli operational tempo there and broadening its target set.”A senior Israeli defense official earlier this month said that Tehran was pulling its troops out of Syria in response to airstrikes against its forces that have been attributed to Israel, a claim seemingly contradicted Wednesday by images published by a private Israeli satellite imagery analysis firm which appeared to show Iranian construction of a new underground weapons storage facility in eastern Syria at a military base under its control near the Iraqi border. In addition, the US officials said there were discussions with Israel on the coronavirus crisis and “how we can cooperate on the things we can do regionally together,” as well as Washington’s concerns over Israel’s trade relationship with China.“The Secretary doesn’t have a problem with people having relationships with China but… COVID sort of highlights the dangers of dealing with states that are not transparent, that don’t have fair trade practices,” one official said, adding that China’s strategic investment around the world is a major issue of concern. “There is no such thing as a privately owned, independent company in China,” they said.China and Israel have stepped up trade and business ties in recent years and launched free trade talks, but senior security officials have sounded alarm bells over Chinese involvement in infrastructure projects, warning they are a security risk and could jeopardize ties with the US. According to a Channel 13 news report Tuesday, ahead of Pompeo’s visit, Israel was reassessing a China-linked firm’s bid for a contract to build a desalination plant in the country. In October, under pressure from Washington over growing Chinese investments in Israeli companies, the security cabinet announced the formation of a new advisory panel that will review foreign investments in the country. In a joint press appearance with Netanyahu before their three-hour meeting at the prime minister’s residence earlier in the day, Pompeo urged “progress” on the implementation of the administration’s peace plan, but stopped short of specifically addressing the timing of Israel’s planned annexation of large parts of the West Bank.“There remains work yet to do, and we need to make progress on that. I am looking forward to it,” he said.Netanyahu, in his remarks, referred to the peace plan only briefly.“This is an opportunity to promote peace and security based on the understanding that I reached with President Trump in my last visit to Washington in January,” he said.
Israeli troops kill Palestinian driver who hit soldier-[Associated Press]-May 14, 2020
JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian man who allegedly rammed his car into a soldier in the southern West Bank on Thursday, the army said, the latest in a string of violence in recent days. The military said the Palestinian driver struck an Israeli soldier near the West Bank settlement of Negohot, south of Hebron. A second soldier at the scene shot the driver, who died of his wounds.Paramedics said the Israeli soldier suffered moderate injuries and was hospitalized. In recent years, Israel has seen car-ramming attacks, shootings, and stabbings carried out mostly by lone Palestinian attackers with no apparent links to armed groups. On Tuesday, an Israeli soldier was killed when a rock thrown off a rooftop struck him in the head during an arrest raid in the West Bank. The following day, Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian teenager during a clash with stone-throwers in the southern West Bank. The deadly violence comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is promising to move forward with his new government to annex parts of the West Bank. U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Jerusalem on Wednesday and held talks with Netanyahu about the annexation plans. The Palestinians strongly oppose annexation. Several protesters rallied in the West Bank city of Nablus on Thursday, burning a cutout image of Pompeo and denouncing President Donald Trump’s Mideast initiative, which starkly favors Israel. The violence also comes on the eve of Palestinian commemorations of their “naqba,” or catastrophe, on Friday. Every year on May 15, the Palestinians remember the uprooting of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who either fled or were expelled from their homes during the 1948 war surrounding Israel's creation.

strong typhoon slams into pandemic-hit Philippines-[Associated Press]-JIM GOMEZ-May 14, 2020
MANILA, Philippines (AP) — A strong typhoon slammed into the eastern Philippines on Thursday, knocking out power and threatening food crops in a new emergency for a country already overwhelmed by the coronavirus pandemic.Typhoon Vongfong blew into Eastern Samar province at noon with fierce rain and wind as tens of thousands of people were being evacuated to safety in provinces along its northwestward path through the country’s most populous region. There were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage. After landfall, the storm maintained its maximum sustained winds of about 155 kilometers (96 miles per hour) but its gusts intensified to 255 kph (158 mph), weather agency administrator Vicente Malano said. The typhoon hit as the Philippines struggles to deal with coronavirus outbreaks, largely with a lockdown in the main northern region of Luzon that is to be eased this weekend, except in metropolitan Manila and two other high-risk areas. The rest of the country will be placed in less restrictive quarantines, and crucial businesses will partially reopen starting next week after the economy contracted in the first quarter.More than 11,600 coronavirus infections, including 772 deaths, have been reported in the country.“This is a double whammy,” Eastern Samar Gov. Ben Evardone said by telephone. “Psychologically, the people are already struggling with COVID and now we have this typhoon.”Evardone said the entire province lost power, apparently due to downed electricity lines. Six northern towns could not be reached by cellphone or two-way radio, and the storm hit during the harvest season for rice and corn, he said.Neighboring Northern Samar province also lost power, Gov. Edwin Ongchuan said by telephone, adding that authorities will survey the damage after the storm.Ongchuan said he asked for twice the usual number of school buildings to be turned into typhoon shelters to accommodate thousands of displaced coastal residents because of the required social distancing, which aims to reduce the chance of coronavirus infections.Overcrowding in emergency shelters has been common in an archipelago that is lashed by about 20 typhoons and storms annually and is often hit by volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. In Eastern Samar’s far-flung Jipapad town, Mayor Benjamin Ver said by telephone that social distancing is “almost impossible” to enforce, with only the town hall and a small gymnasium serving as evacuation shelters for about 8,000 residents in the flood- and landslide-prone municipality.Ver said he has secured enough face masks to protect villagers from the virus if they take shelter in the town hall.Eastern Samar, a province of half a million people, remains free of confirmed coronavirus infections, unlike neighboring regions, Evardone said. All emergency shelters have been turned into quarantine facilities with medical equipment in case of outbreaks, but may have to be turned back into evacuation centers if large numbers of people need shelter, he said.Metropolitan Manila will not be hit directly by the storm but may be lashed by strong winds. Officials were advised to remove many medical quarantine tents set up outside hospitals that could be blown away, Malano said. The impoverished eastern region initially hit by Vongfong was devastated in 2013 by Typhoon Haiyan, which left more than 7,300 people dead or missing, flattened entire villages, swept ships inland and displaced more than 5 million Us
Obama emerges as central figure in 2020 presidential race-[Associated Press]-JULIE PACE-May 14, 2020
WASHINGTON (AP) — Nearly eight years after he was last on the ballot, Barack Obama is emerging as a central figure in the 2020 presidential election.Democrats are eagerly embracing Obama as a political wingman for Joe Biden, who spent two terms by his side as vice president. Obama remains the party’s most popular figure, particularly with black voters and younger Democrats, and Biden’s presidential campaign is planning for him to have a highly visible role in the months to come. For President Donald Trump, that means an opportunity to focus the spotlight on one of his favorite political foils. In recent days, Trump and his allies have aggressively pushed conspiracy theories about Obama designed to fire up the president’s conservative base, taint Biden by association and distract from the glut of grim health and economic news from the coronavirus pandemic.“Partisans on both sides want to make this about Obama,” said Ned Price, who served as spokesperson for Obama’s White House National Security Council. The renewed political focus on Obama sets the stage for an election about the nation’s future that will also be about its past. As Biden looks to Obama for personal validation, he’s also running to restore some of the former president’s legacy, which has been systematically dismantled by Trump. The current president is running in part to finish that job.Yet Trump’s anti-Obama push also frequently takes on a darker, more conspiratorial tone that goes far beyond differences in health care policy and America’s role in the world. His current focus is on the actions Obama, Biden and their national security advisers took in the closing days of their administration, as they viewed intelligence reports about Michael Flynn. Flynn had a short-lived stint as Trump’s national security adviser before being fired for lying to Vice President Mike Pence about his interactions with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S.Trump’s own administration acknowledged on Wednesday that Obama advisers followed proper procedures in privately “unmasking” Flynn’s name, which was redacted in the intelligence reports for privacy reasons. Flynn ultimately pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, though Trump’s Justice Department moved last week to drop the case against him.Despite there being no evidence of wrongdoing by Obama, Biden or other administration officials, Trump is eagerly pushing the notion of an unspecified crime, branding it “Obamagate.” He’s being backed up by Republican allies, including Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, who took to the Senate floor this week to ask of the Flynn matter: “What did Obama and Biden know, and when did they know it?”Trump’s zeal has sparked fears among some former Obama and Biden advisers about how far he may be willing to go in using the levers of government to push his case against them in an election year. The Justice Department is conducting an investigation into the origins of the Russia probe that ensnared Flynn and other Trump associates. And on Thursday, Trump tweeted that he wanted Congress to call Obama to testify before lawmakers.Trump’s renewed focus on Obama comes as Republicans grow increasingly anxious that the rising coronavirus death toll and cratering economy will damage the president’s reelection prospects in November. More than 84,000 Americans have died from the virus, and more than 30 million have claimed unemployment.Biden’s campaign drew a direct connection between the president’s attacks on Obama and the twin crises battering his administration.“It’s no surprise that the president is erratically lashing out at President Obama, desperate to distract from his own failures as commander in chief that have cost thousands of Americans their lives during this crisis,” said TJ Ducklo, a Biden campaign spokesman.Trump’s emphasis on Obama also comes as the former president begins to emerge from a three-year period of political restraint as he prepares to embrace his role as leading surrogate for Biden. Last week, Obama told a large gathering of alumni from his administration that DOJ’s decision to drop the Flynn case put the “rule of law at risk.” He also criticized the Trump White House’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.Biden’s campaign has been eager to get Obama involved in the election, though his exact role is still forming, particularly given that the pandemic has upended the campaign’s plans for rallies and other in-person events in battleground states. The former president is also expected to campaign for Democratic House and Senate candidates across the country.Though Obama campaigned for Democratic candidates in the 2018 midterms, he has mostly tried to avoid overt politics since leaving the White House. He’s spoken out publicly against Trump on rare occasions, frustrating many Democrats who have wanted him to be more aggressive in calling out his successor. But the 2020 election has always loomed as the moment when Obama would step off the sidelines, and he’s told advisers he’s eager to do so. Despite his strident public neutrality during the Democratic primary, he spoke to Biden regularly and has continued to do so as the campaign moves into the general election, according to aides.Biden’s campaign sees Obama as a clear asset as they seek not only to energize Democrats, but also to appeal to independents and more moderate Republicans who may be wary of four more years of Trump in the White House.A recent Monmouth University poll found 57% of Americans say they have a favorable opinion of Obama. That includes 92% of Democrats and 19% of Republicans.Obama’s favorable ratings are higher than either of the men who will be on the ballot in November. The same poll showed 41% of Americans had a favorable opinion of Biden, and 40% viewed Trump in a favorable light.___Associated Press writers Mary Clare Jalonick and Emily Swanson in Washington contributed to this report.___Follow Julie Pace at https://twitter.com/jpaceDC.___Catch up on the 2020 election campaign with AP experts on our weekly politics podcast, “Ground Game.”
