100 DAYS OF ISRAEL PROTECTING ITS PEOPLE.

EZEKIEL 38:1-23
1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2  Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him,
3  And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:
4  And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:
5  Persia,(IRAN,IRAQ) Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:
6  Gomer,(GERMANY) and all his bands; the house of Togarmah (TURKEY) of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee.(AFRICAN MUSLIMS,SUDAN,TUNESIA ETC)
7  Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.
8  After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.
9  Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.
10  Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
11  And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,
12  To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land.
13  Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?(OIL IS IN SPOIL-I BELIEVE THATS WHY RUSSIA,ARAB/MUSLIMS MARCH TO ISRAEL)
14  Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it?
15  And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army:
16  And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.
17  Thus saith the Lord GOD; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them?
18  And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, that my fury shall come up in my face.
19  For in my jealousy and in the fire (atomic bomb) of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel;
20  So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.
21  And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord GOD: every man’s sword shall be against his brother.
22  And I will plead against him with pestilence (biological, chemical, nuclear) and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.(NUKED,THEN MIGRATING BIRDS EAT RUSSIA/ARAB/MUSLIMS FLESH)
23  Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the LORD.

EZEKIEL 39:1-29
1 Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:
2  And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee,(300 MILIION RUSSIA-ARAB-MUSLIMS GET NUKED BY ISRAEL) and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:
3  And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.
4  Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou,(RUSSIA) and all thy bands,(RUSSIA SUPPORTED WITH WEAPONS-ARAB/MUSLIM COUNTRIES) and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.
5  Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
6  And I will send a fire (ATOMIC BOMB) on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
7  So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.
8  Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD; this is the day whereof I have spoken.
9  And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire seven years:
10  So that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons with fire: and they shall spoil those that spoiled them, and rob those that robbed them, saith the Lord GOD.
11  And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamongog.
12  And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land.
13  Yea, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown the day that I shall be glorified, saith the Lord GOD.
14  And they shall sever out men of continual employment, passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search.
15  And the passengers that pass through the land, when any seeth a man’s bone, then shall he set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamongog.
16  And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall they cleanse the land.
17  And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.
18  Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.
19  And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.
20  Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD.
21  And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them.
22  So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.
23  And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword.
24  According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I done unto them, and hid my face from them.
25  Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name;
26  After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid.
27  When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations;
28  Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.
29  Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.

Liberal, NDP MPs to travel to West Bank to connect with Palestinians-Sun, January 14, 2024 at 6:00 a.m. EST

Five Canadian MPs are set to begin a week-long visit to Jordan and the West Bank today to meet with Palestinian refugees and progressive Israeli groups. The group of MPs landing in Amman, Jordan's capital, includes Liberal MPs Salma Zahid and Shafqat Ali and New Democrat MPs Heather McPherson (the party's foreign affairs critic), Matthew Green and Lindsay Mathyssen."What we have seen in the last three months is that it is a humanitarian crisis, and the situation also in the West Bank has been worsening," Zahid, chair of the Canada–Palestine Parliamentary Friendship Group, told CBC News prior to the MPs' departure."I think it is really good to be on the ground to see, and to talk to some of the impacted families."The trip is sponsored travel paid for by Canadian Muslim Vote, a registered non-profit Muslim charity. In October, Zahid spearheaded an effort to get MPs across party lines to sign a letter demanding that the Canadian government call for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas.Twenty-two other Liberal MPs initially signed the letter — the first sign of fracture in the government caucus over Canada's position on the war.Canada voted for a ceasefire at the UN General Assembly in December, just days after CBC News reported a group representing Muslim donors had left the Liberal Party of Canada's highest donor rank."I think it is important that Canada is known as a peacemaker, a peace-builder. So Canada should be a strong voice for a ceasefire in that region, to make sure that we put an end to the killing of innocent Palestinian people," Zahid said."This region is in chaos and Canada needs to play a role, working with our allies," said McPherson."I think what this trip allows us to do is ... speak with some authority, because we will be on the ground. We will speak with progressive Israeli organizations who are calling for peace."A preliminary itinerary the group released to CBC News mentions stops in Jordan and Ramallah in the central West Bank to speak with "affected" Palestinian communities, along with visits to refugee camps. The West Bank has not seen the same volume of media coverage as Gaza, the main theater of conflict since October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched an attack that saw it kill 1,200 Israeli civilians and take 240 hostages.Since then, the Hamas-run Ministry of Health in Gaza has estimated Israel has killed some 23,000 Palestinians in retaliatory military actions. The Canadian government lists Hamas as a terrorist organization. Canada does have a diplomatic presence in the West Bank, which is administered by the Palestinian Authority, a different political entity that is recognized by the United Nations as the only representative Palestinian governing body.On Friday, Israel said it had killed three Palestinian men who infiltrated a settlement in the West Bank. The news wire service Reuters has reported that Israeli forces have killed hundreds of Palestinians in the West Bank and have arrested thousands since Oct. 7.In December, the Canadian government joined 13 other countries, including the United Kingdom, France and the European Union, in calling on Israel to do more to stop "extremist settler violence" against Palestinians. The United States has also imposed travel bans on extremist settlers associated with acts of violence.Ali, the Liberal MP for Brampton-Centre, and Mathyssen, the NDP MP for London-Fanshawe, said they have heard from constituents alarmed by the humanitarian crisis on the ground.Ali said he wants to "meet with those non-governmental organization individuals who are working on the ground to have knowledge and perspective on how we can assist Palestinians in basically rebuilding. If you see it by yourself, you can talk about it with more clarity."Mathyssen said she is going "to hear the stories, to see for ourselves what's going on on the ground, to meet with key organizations that are providing humanitarian aid."Second MP trip to Middle East since conflict erupted-This trip is the second by a group of Canadian MPs to the Middle East since Oct. 7.In November, two Liberal and three Conservative MPs travelled to Israel to meet with survivors of Hamas's deadly attack and family members of those killed. That trip was sponsored by the Canadian group United Jewish Appeal. At the time, the National Council of Canadian Muslims and Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East suggested it would have been fair for those MPs to meet with Palestinians as well. The MPs visiting the West Bank this week say they're not worried about appearing one-sided."I am going there to that region as [a] member of Parliament and as the chair of the Canada–Palestine Parliamentary Friendship Group. I think it is really very important that I visit the region," said Zahid."It's very important to me that I am hearing from Jewish organizations, that I am meeting with Jewish representatives that can talk to us about their calls for peace," McPherson said.

Visiting Egypt, China’s FM calls for Palestinian state, Israel-Hamas ceasefire-Along with counterpart Sameh Shoukry, Wang Yi urges international peace conference; discusses with Sissi the need to immediately end fighting to prevent spillover to new fronts-By AFP 14 January 2024, 11:39 pm 0

CAIRO, Egypt — China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday called for the establishment of a Palestinian state and a ceasefire in Gaza, where 100 days of the Israel-Hamas war have killed thousands. In a press conference with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry in Cairo, the top Chinese diplomat said: “It is necessary to insist on the establishment of an independent, fully sovereign state of Palestine on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”A joint statement from the two ministers urged an immediate end “to all acts of violence, killing, and targeting of civilians and civilian establishments.”Wang additionally discussed the conflict with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, according to Chinese state media Xinhua, with both sides agreeing a ceasefire “should be achieved as soon as possible to prevent the conflict from further spilling over.”The war broke out when thousands of Hamas-led terrorists invaded Israel on October 7, murdering some 1,200 people, mostly civilians butchered in their homes and at a music festival, and kidnapping over 240 to Gaza, prompting an Israeli military campaign aimed at vanquishing Hamas and returning the hostages. The Hamas-run health ministry has said at least 23,968 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, though the figure cannot be independently verified and is believed to include both civilians and Hamas members killed in Gaza, some as a consequence of terror groups’ own rocket misfires. The IDF says it has killed over 9,000 operatives in Gaza, in addition to some 1,000 terrorists inside Israel on October 7.Shoukry and Wang called for “an international summit for peace to find a just, comprehensive, and lasting solution to the Palestinian cause by ending the occupation and establishing an independent, contiguous Palestinian state.”The Gaza Strip has been ruled by Hamas since it took over in a bloody coup in 2007, while the West Bank is the seat of the Palestinian Authority, Hamas’s rivals. Both were seized by Israel in the 1967 Six Day War, although Israel unilaterally withdrew the last of its troops and settlers from Gaza in 2005. It later imposed a blockade on the Strip, aimed at isolating Hamas and preventing the terror group from arming.Chinese President Xi Jinping has previously called for an “international peace conference” to resolve the fighting.China has historically been sympathetic to the Palestinian cause and supportive of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.Wang is currently on an African tour that will see him also visit Togo, Tunisia, and Ivory Coast.Times of Israel staff contributed to this report.

2,000 projectiles fired from Lebanon, some 30 from Syria-The war in numbers: 9,000 Hamas members killed, 11,000+ rockets fired into Israel-After 100 days of war, IDF data says dozens of Hamas commanders slain, 30,000 targets struck in Gaza; more than 170 terrorists in Lebanon killed, over 750 Hezbollah posts hit-By Emanuel Fabian 14 January 2024, 10:08 pm 8

The Israel Defense Forces on Sunday published a large data set with information on its operations in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Lebanon, from the number of terror operatives killed to the number of sites struck, as the country marked 100 days of war against Palestinian terror group Hamas.According to the data, more than 9,000 Hamas operatives and members of other terror groups have been killed by the IDF in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the war, in addition to some 1,000 terrorists inside Israel on October 7, when gunmen rampaged through southern communities massacring some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting over 240 to Gaza. The Hamas-run health ministry has said over 23,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, though the figure cannot be independently verified and is believed to include both civilians and Hamas members killed in Gaza, including as a consequence of terror groups’ own rocket misfires. The IDF’s data said the military has killed two Hamas brigade commanders as well as 19 battalion commanders and other senior officials with an equivalent rank. More than 50 Hamas company commanders and operatives with a similar rank have also been killed, according to the data.In Lebanon, the IDF said it has killed more than 170 terror operatives, mostly members of the Iran-backed Hezbollah. Some 30,000 targets have been struck in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the war, including more than 3,400 that were discovered as Hamas sites during the fighting. In Lebanon, some 750 Hezbollah positions have been hit, according to the IDF’s data.Since the beginning of the war, some 9,000 projectiles fired from Gaza crossed the border into Israel, alongside 2,000 from Lebanon, and around 30 from Syria. These figures do not include rockets — said by Israel to be at least in the hundreds — launched by Gazan terror groups that misfired and landed in the Strip. The IDF said the Military Intelligence Directorate’s Unit 504 has interrogated some 2,300 Palestinian suspects in the Gaza Strip, some of whom were arrested and brought to Israel for further questioning.A total of 7,653 trucks ferrying humanitarian aid entering the Gaza Strip have been inspected by Israeli authorities at the Nitzana and Kerem Shalom crossings. The IDF said the trucks have carried a total of 137,920 tons of aid.The IDF has also made 79,000 phone calls, dropped 7.2 million leaflets, and sent 13.7 million texts and 15 million recorded calls to Palestinians in Gaza with evacuation warnings.Since October 7, in the West Bank, the IDF said troops have arrested more than 2,650 wanted Palestinians, including more than 1,300 affiliated with Hamas. It said 40 brigade-level raids have been carried out, and 14 homes of Palestinians accused of terrorism have been demolished.According to the IDF’s data, a total of 295,000 reservists have been called up since the beginning of the war. Of them, around 45,000 are serving despite receiving an exemption from reserve duty. The IDF said the nearly 300,000 reservists have been on duty for an average of 61 days.Men make up 81 percent of the reservists, with the other 19% women. 115,000 of the reservists are fathers, and some 3,000 are mothers. Half of the reservists are between the ages of 20-29, with 31% being between the ages of 30-39. Another 13% are aged 40-49, 5% aged 50-59, and 1% aged 60-69.A total of 522 soldiers, reservists and local security officers have been killed and another 2,536 have been wounded since October 7. Of them, 188 were killed and 1,113 were wounded during the ground offensive in Gaza, the latest being Sgt. First Class (res.) Andu’alem Kabeda, 21, who was killed fighting in the southern part of the enclave Saturday.Kabeda was from the southern town of Kiryat Gat and served in the Combat Engineering Corps’ 603rd Battalion. The IDF also listed 19 soldiers killed due to friendly fire in Gaza, and another 36 by accidents during the war, including car crashes and military-related incidents.

Nasrallah: Red Sea, Lebanon border, Iraq violence all ‘tied to one thing’ — Gaza-In speech commemorating death of top commander, Hezbollah leader says US attacks on Yemen ‘will harm the security of all maritime navigation,’ vows Houthi strikes will continue-By Agencies and ToI Staff 14 January 2024, 9:56 pm 2

All of the violence in the Middle East is connected to Israel’s war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Hezbollah terror group leader Hassan Nasrallah said on Sunday in comments directed at the United States. In a televised address, Nasrallah charged that envoys sent to Lebanon have been seeking to “extinguish” the front by delivering a warning that if the group did not stop its attacks, “Israel would launch a war on Lebanon.”He did not identify the envoys, and reiterated that the aim of the Lebanon front is to “stop the aggression against Gaza.” Nasrallah, whose group is a leading part of an Iran-aligned regional alliance which includes the Houthi rebels, said the Yemeni-based group’s targeting of ships belonging to Israel or heading to its ports would continue.“The more dangerous thing is what the Americans did in the Red Sea,” he said, saying this “will harm the security of all maritime navigation, even the ships that are not going to Palestine, even the ships which are not Israeli, even the ships that have nothing to do with the matter, because the sea has become a theater of fighting, missiles, drones and warships. Security has been disrupted.”US and British forces on Friday launched dozens of airstrikes against Houthi forces in retaliation for attacks on Red Sea shipping. The group says it took the action to support Palestinians in Gaza. Washington launched another strike overnight Friday-Saturday.The war in Gaza began on October 7, when some 3,000 Hamas terrorists burst across the border into Israel from the Gaza Strip by land, air and sea, killing some 1,200 people and seizing over 240 hostages — mostly civilians — under the cover of a deluge of thousands of rockets fired at Israeli towns and cities. The Houthis say their strikes are in solidarity with the people of Gaza, where the Hamas-run health ministry says nearly 24,000 people have been killed in the conflict. These figures cannot be independently verified, and are believed to include both Hamas terrorists and civilians, and people killed as a consequence of terror groups’ own rocket misfires. Israel says it has killed over 9,000 Hamas members, in addition to 1,000 killed in Israel following the October 7 invasion. In December, the US announced a multi-nation coalition to quell the Houthi missile and drone attacks on ships transiting the Red Sea.Nasrallah said the US should understand “that the security of the Red Sea and calm on Lebanon’s front, the situation in Iraq, and all developments in the region are tied to one thing: stopping the aggression against Gaza.”“You are trying to deal with the consequences and the results, go fix the reason,” he said.Nasrallah was speaking to commemorate the death of a top Hezbollah commander, Wissam Tawil, who was killed in south Lebanon last week, the most senior Hezbollah commander to die in three months of hostilities with Israel.Since October 8, Hezbollah-led forces have attacked Israeli communities and military posts along the border on a near-daily basis, with the group repeatedly saying it is doing so to support Gaza amid the war there.
So far, the skirmishes have resulted in six civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of nine IDF soldiers and reservists. There have also been several attacks from Syria, without any injuries.
Hezbollah has named 161 members who have been killed by Israel during the ongoing skirmishes, mostly in Lebanon, but also some in Syria. In Lebanon, another 19 operatives from other terror groups, a Lebanese soldier, and at least 19 civilians, three of whom were journalists, have been killed.

Houthi capabilities dented but largely left intact after US-led strikes — report-US officials tell New York Times analysts are struggling to find targets to strike, with Yemeni rebels having hidden much of their weaponry and still able to threaten shipping-By ToI Staff and Agencies Today, 11:43 am-JAN 14,24

US and British military strikes on Houthi-controlled sites in Yemen over the weekend largely left intact most of the Iran-backed rebel group’s ability to fire at maritime traffic in the Red Sea, according to a report Saturday. Two waves of US-led strikes Friday hit more than 60 targets in 28 locations in response to weeks of attacks on commercial vessels traversing a vital strait near the mouth of the Red Sea. Another missile attack on Saturday was described as “follow-on action” by the US Central Command.Citing two US officials, The New York Times reported Saturday that the volleys had degraded some 20 to 30 percent of the Houthi’s offensive capabilities, with much of the rest hidden and out of danger.According to the officials, who were not named, some 90% of the sites targeted were damaged or destroyed.
The attacks came after weeks of threats by Washington and London that they could take action against the Houthis in response to dozens of drone and missile attacks on ships moving through the southern Red Sea, including assaults on warships sent to protect commercial vessels. The rebel group began the attacks in support of the Hamas terror group, which Israel is battling in Gaza. While largely ineffective, according to Western officials, the Houthi attacks led many of the world’s largest shippers to avoid the waterway and instead sail around Africa, sending costs soaring and disrupting global trade. It’s unclear if shipping firms will again feel safe using the waterway with much of the Houthis’ capabilities intact.Ahead of the attacks, Houthis moved or hid much of their offensive capabilities, which are largely mounted on mobile carriers.US Air Forces Central Command said the strikes focused on the Houthis’ command and control nodes, munition depots, launching systems, production facilities and air defense radar systems. The strikes involved more than 150 precision-guided munitions including air-launched missiles by F/A-18 Super Hornets based on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Tomahawk missiles from the Navy destroyers USS Gravely and USS Mason, the Navy cruiser USS Philippine Sea, and a US submarine. The United Kingdom said strikes hit a site in Bani allegedly used by the Houthis to launch drones and an airfield in Abbs used to launch cruise missiles and drones.“I know we have degraded capability.  I don’t believe that they would be able to execute the same way they did the other day,” Lt. Gen. Douglas Sims, director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Saturday, referring to a complex missile and drone attack carried out by the Houthis on January 9.White House spokesperson John Kirby said the initial strikes had hit the Houthis’ ability to store, launch and guide missiles or drones. The attacks killed at least five people and wounded six, the Houthis said, vowing to retaliate.According to the officials quoted by The New York Times, the US and other intelligence agencies in the West have had a tougher time than predicted finding sites to target, after years in which data collection on Yemen was largely not a main priority. The officials said US analysts have been scrambling to find sites to target. The US said the first wave of strikes targeted 16 sites, and the second wave another 12 sites that were identified during and immediately after those attacks.According to the Times report, the site struck Saturday was a “reattack” of a site hit early Friday morning.Saudi Arabia, which fought a years-long war in Yemen in support of the government-in-exile that the Houthis are fighting, has sought to distance itself from the attacks as it seeks to maintain a delicate détente with Iran and a ceasefire it has in Yemen.

IDF: Troops kill three-man terror cell infiltrating from Lebanon; 5 soldiers hurt-Incident at Mount Dov comes amid repeated attacks led by Hezbollah on northern Israel-By Emanuel Fabian Today, 9:48 am-JAN 14,24

Three gunmen who infiltrated into Israeli territory from Lebanon before dawn on Sunday were killed by Israeli troops, the military said. Medical officials said five soldiers were wounded in the incident. In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces said the terror cell was spotted by troops carrying out a patrol in the contested Mount Dov region on the border. The gunmen were thought to have managed to cross the border initially undetected due to heavy fog covering the mountain. There is no border fence in the Mount Dov area, also known as Shebaa Farms — an area claimed by Lebanon — which houses several military positions and no towns. The soldiers heard gunfire near them during their patrol and engaged the suspects. An exchange of fire took place, during which artillery and mortars were also launched to assist the Israeli troops, the IDF said, adding that all three gunmen were killed.Rambam Hospital in Haifa said five soldiers were admitted to the medical center following the gun battle. It said two of the soldiers were listed in good-to-moderate condition, and three were lightly hurt. There was no immediate claim of responsibility, though the incident comes amid repeated attacks by Lebanon’s Hezbollah and allied Palestinian terror groups on the border in recent months. On Saturday, the IDF said it carried out a wave of airstrikes on Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon in response to attacks on the border. The sites struck by fighter jets in Meiss Ej Jabal and Yarine included various infrastructure used by the terror group, according to the IDF.Several projectiles were fired by Hezbollah at northern Israel on Saturday, including one missile that hit a home in the border community of Shtula. On Friday night, the IDF said, it struck three terror cells in southern Lebanon, which were preparing to carry out attacks on northern Israel. An attack helicopter targeted two cells in southern Lebanon’s Marwahin, and special forces and artillery struck an anti-tank missile squad in Yaroun, the IDF said.Since October 8, Hezbollah-led forces have attacked Israeli communities and military posts along the border on a near-daily basis, with the group saying it is doing so to support Gaza amid Israel’s war with the Hamas terror group there. So far, the skirmishes on the border have resulted in four civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of nine IDF soldiers. There have also been several attacks from Syria, without any injuries.Hezbollah has named 161 members who have been killed by Israel during the ongoing skirmishes, mostly in Lebanon but some also in Syria. In Lebanon, another 19 operatives from other terror groups — including Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad — along with a Lebanese soldier and at least 19 civilians, three of whom were journalists, have been killed.

No votes for Genocide Joe’: Thousands demand ceasefire at DC pro-Palestinian protest-Progressive participants split on whether they will support US president against Trump in November election due to his support for Israel in war against Hamas-By Agencies Today, 2:08 am-JAN 14,24

WASHINGTON — Thousands of demonstrators converged opposite the White House on Saturday to call for an end to Israeli military action against Hamas, as part of a global day of action against the war in Gaza.People in the capital held aloft signs questioning US President Joe Biden’s viability as a presidential candidate because of his staunch support for Israel in the nearly 100-day war against Hamas. Some of the signs read: “No votes for Genocide Joe,” “Biden has blood on his hands” and “Let Gaza live.”The US and Israel have rejected calls for a ceasefire, noting that it would leave in place the Hamas leadership that presided over the October 7 terror onslaught and that has pledged to repeatedly carry out such attacks until Israel is dismantled. Some 1,200 Israelis — mostly civilians — were brutally murdered in the surprise October 7 assault and another roughly 240 were taken hostage in the deadliest attack in the country’s history and the deadliest for Jews since the Holocaust.Vendors in Washington were also selling South African flags as protesters chanted slogans in support of the country whose accusations of genocide against Israel prompted the International Court of Justice in the Hague, Netherlands, to take up the case. The US has dismissed the genocide allegation as “meritless,” noting that Hamas is the side with genocidal aims and that South Africa’s case distracts from serious efforts aimed at both limiting civilian casualties while maintaining Israel’s right to defend itself.Dan Devries, a New York resident, said he attended the protest because he wants to see a free Gaza, but that he wouldn’t vote for either Biden or possible Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.“I see this war as part of the US’s drive to offset its economic decline by engaging in continual war,” claimed Devries.Washington resident Phil Kline held up a sign calling for Pope Francis to excommunicate Biden.“I know he’s a devout Catholic. Maybe he will take this issue seriously when the pope removes him from the church. There’s no justification for bombing civilians,” Kline said, though he added he still intends to vote for Biden in the November elections. In DC, a protester waved a picture of the spokesperson of the military wing of Hamas. Why on earth would that happen? I often don't blame folks in the arab world for supporting Hamas due to the lack of access to information, but here in the US, we have no excuses. Not only did… pic.twitter.com/xIS2zTxbTP— Khalil Sayegh (@KhalilJeries) January 14, 2024-Biden has previously described Israel’s bombing campaign as “indiscriminate,” and said on Monday he had been working “quietly” with the Israeli government to encourage it to reduce its attacks and “significantly get out of Gaza.”Medea Benjamin, a co-founder of the anti-war group CodePink, told The Associated Press that the moniker “Genocide Joe” will stick with Biden for a certain segment of the community because of his handling of the war in Gaza.“I think the Democrats are playing with fire in many ways — playing with fire in that they’re supporting a genocide in Gaza but also playing with fire in terms of their own future,” Benjamin said.Jake and Ida Braford, a young couple from Richmond, Virginia, who brought their two small children to the protest, said they were unsure of whether to vote for Biden in November.“We’re pretty disheartened,” Ida Braford said. “Seeing what is happening in Gaza, and the government’s actions makes me wonder what is our vote worth?”The plight of children in the Gaza Strip was the focus of a huge march in London on Saturday, symbolized by the appearance of Little Amal, a 3.5-meter (11.5-foot) puppet originally meant to highlight the suffering of Syrian refugees. The puppet had become a human rights emblem during an 8,000-kilometer (4,970-mile) journey from the Turkish-Syrian border to Manchester in July 2001.Officers have located the group distributing these leaflets.Three people have been arrested on suspicion of showing support for a proscribed organisation which is an offence under the Terrorism Act. https://t.co/UALNBVJpV4— Metropolitan Police (@metpoliceuk) January 13, 2024-Nearly two-thirds of the 23,843 people killed during Israel’s campaign in Gaza have been women and children, according to the health ministry in the Hamas-run territory. These figures cannot be independently verified, and are believed to include both civilians and Hamas members killed in Gaza, including as a consequence of terror groups’ own rocket misfires. The IDF says it has killed over 8,500 operatives in Gaza, in addition to some 1,000 terrorists inside Israel on October 7.Israeli says it makes efforts to avoid civilian casualties, but that these are unavoidable in a war against a terror group operating from within the civilian population, using innocents as human shields.March organizers had said the Palestinian children would accompany Little Amal through the streets of central London.“On Saturday Amal walks for those most vulnerable and for their bravery and resilience,“ said Amir Nizar Zuabi, artistic director of The Walk Productions. “Amal is a child and a refugee and today in Gaza childhood is under attack, with an unfathomable number of children killed. Childhood itself is being targeted. That’s why we walk.”A pro-Israel rally was set to take place in London on Sunday. The London march was one of several others being held in European cities including Paris, Rome, Milan and Dublin, where thousands also marched along the Irish capital’s main thoroughfare to protest Israel’s military operations against Hamas.Protesters waved Palestinian flags, held placards critical of the Irish, US and Israeli governments and chanted, “Free, free Palestine.″In Rome, hundreds of demonstrators descended on a boulevard near the famous Colosseum, with some carrying signs reading, “Stop Genocide.”At one point during the protest, amid the din of sound effects mimicking exploding bombs, a number of demonstrators lied down in the street and pulled white sheets over themselves as if they were corpses, while others knelt beside them, their palms daubed in red paint. Many hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Paris’ Republic Square to set off on a march calling for an immediate cease-fire, an end to the war, a lifting of the blockade on Gaza and to impose sanctions on Israel.Marching protesters waved the Palestinian flag and held aloft placards and banners reading, “From Gaza to Paris. Resistance.”Times of Israel staff contributed to this report

Plotted to attack Israel's embassy in Sweden-Israel says it uncovered Hamas terror network planning attacks in Europe-Mossad and Shin Bet release details on group’s attempts to attack Jewish and Israeli targets, say slain Hamas leaders in Lebanon helmed the efforts-By Lazar Berman 13 January 2024, 8:33 pm 8

Hamas runs a network of operatives in Europe commanded by terror leaders in Lebanon, Israel said Saturday as its intelligence agencies released new details on the Gaza-based organization’s attempts to attack Israeli and Jewish targets abroad. Most of the group’s Lebanon-based commanders, including Saleh al-Arouri and Khalil Harraz, were killed in airstrikes in recent weeks attributed to Israel, as Jerusalem pursues Hamas in Gaza and beyond.Hamas cells in Denmark, Germany and Holland were arrested in December on suspicion of plotting to attack Jewish targets in Europe.According to a statement released Saturday by the Prime Minister’s Office, Israel’s Mossad and Shin Bet agencies in cooperation with foreign partners have been able to build a “comprehensive and in-depth” picture of Hamas’s efforts to carry out attacks in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The PMO said Israel has uncovered “details on theaters of operation, terror targets, and on those involved in carrying out attacks — from Hamas commanders in Lebanon to the last of the attackers in the operational infrastructure.”It did not provide many further details on these findings, but said the network had been planning to attack Israel’s embassy in Sweden, buy UAVs and utilize criminal organizations in Europe to support attacks.Arouri, wanted for years by Israel and seen as the prime orchestrator of Hamas’s West Bank terrorism, was killed earlier this month in a strike in the Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh. Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency said the blast was carried out by an Israeli drone.Israeli officials declined to comment. Unnamed US officials told The New York Times and Washington Post that Israel was responsible.Israel has vowed to target all leaders of Hamas after the terror group’s devastating October 7 attack on Israel that killed some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and saw the abduction of over 240 others. In late October, in response to the massacres, Israel launched a large-scale offensive in the Gaza Strip with the stated goal of destroying Hamas. The fighting is ongoing, with the Strip’s north largely under Israeli control, while intensive battles continue in the south and center.Harraz, deputy commander of Hamas’s military wing in Lebanon, was killed in a November strike in Lebanon also attributed to Israel. On Friday, Danish police said that seven people suspected of involvement in a planned terror attack foiled by authorities in December had links to Hamas. Police said on December 14 that they had arrested three people in Denmark suspected of planning a “terror” attack, but provided no other details. The prosecutor’s statement appeared to back up comments by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said on December 14 that Denmark’s security forces had “thwarted an attack, the goal of which was to kill innocent civilians on European soil.“The Hamas terrorist organization has been working relentlessly and exhaustively to expand its lethal operations to Europe, and thereby constitutes a threat to the domestic security of these countries,” Netanyahu said then of the apparent plot against Jewish or Israeli targets.Danish Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard said Friday that the alleged connection to Hamas “confirms that the threat against Denmark is serious, but luckily we have a strong police and intelligence service doing their best to protect us every day.”In December, Israel updated travel warnings for dozens of countries, amid rising antisemitism and threats of violence against Israelis and Jews around the world as its war against Hamas in Gaza continues, sparked by the terror group’s October 7 massacres.

Netanyahu: Move is one possibility, no decision made-Israel said to tell Egypt of plan to take control of border corridor with Gaza-According to Wall Street Journal, Jerusalem plans to reassert control of Philadelphi Route, which it has not controlled since 2005-By ToI Staff 13 January 2024, 7:06 pm 14

Israel has informed Egypt of plans to launch a military operation to take control of the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.Citing Israeli and Egyptian officials, the report said such an operation was expected to see Israel take the Rafah border crossing and station forces along the so-called Philadelphi Corridor separating Egypt and Gaza.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said last month that the Philadelphi Corridor, which runs for 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) all along the Gaza-Egypt border, “has to be in our hands” in order to ensure that Gaza is and remains demilitarized, to prevent weapons from being smuggled through tunnels into the coastal enclave.Israel controlled the Corridor until it evacuated Gaza in 2005.The Wall Street Journal said the operation has not yet gotten the all-clear from Israeli leaders, and the timing will depend on talks with the Egyptian government as the latter works to broker a new hostage deal between Israel and Hamas.Israeli officials have reportedly sought to allay Egyptian concerns that such an operation could result in an accidental spillover of fighting to Egypt, or that it could breach the limits on positioning troops in the area that are part of the 1979 peace treaty between the countries. The newspaper said Egypt had rejected an Israeli proposal to have Israeli troops conduct joint patrols on the Egyptian side of the border, but that Cairo had said it was working to install barriers and increase surveillance in the area to tackle Israeli security concerns.“Israel does not want to be responsible for Gaza in the long term, but the question is how do you make sure that Gaza stays demilitarized?” an unnamed senior Israeli military official was quoted as saying. “It’s a real dilemma. The only way to control a geographic area is to control what’s going in and out.”“Right now in the near term, in the next few decades, Israel needs to control the borders because of the security issues,” the official added.Asked about the reports Saturday during a press conference, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu replied that this was “one possibility for what I call a southern barrier.”“We will not end the war without closing this breach. Otherwise we will not eliminate Hamas, we will not demilitarize Gaza and then more weapons will enter through this southern breach. Obviously we need to to close it. There are several options and we have not yet made a decision,” he said.On Thursday, Channel 13 reported that a senior IDF officer had returned to Israel from Egypt after holding talks relating to the ongoing war, and had asked Cairo to agree to Israeli presence on the Philadelphi Corridor after the war.Citing unnamed senior security figures, the network said that the discussions in Egypt dealt with increasing the amount of humanitarian aid that enters Gaza, as well as the future of the Corridor.Egyptian lawmaker Mustafa Bakri roundly criticized Netanyahu’s comments on controlling the Philadelphi Corridor as an attack on Egyptian sovereignty and a violation of the peace treaty between Israel and Egypt. After reports that Jerusalem and Cairo were cooperating on the matter of the Philadelphi Route, an unnamed Egyptian government official told Egyptian media outlets on Monday that the reports were “categorically false.”During a summit in the Jordanian city of Aqaba on Wednesday, Egypt’s President Abdel-Fatah el-Sissi, along with Jordan’s King Abdullah and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, warned against any Israeli reoccupation of the Gaza Strip after the war, although he didn’t make any direct reference to the Philadelphi Corridor.A statement released by the three leaders at the end of the summit confirmed “a complete rejection of any attempt to reoccupy parts of Gaza, and the need to enable its people to return to their homes.”

CBC-Maria, Que. declares state of emergency amid snow, floods-Sat, January 13, 2024 at 5:51 p.m. EST

The municipality of Maria, Que., in the Gaspésie region declared a state of emergency early Saturday afternoon due to strong winds and high tides that could lead to coastal flooding.Residents of des Tournepierres and des Pluviers streets, which are most at risk, were given voluntary evacuation notices.Firefighters and police officers met with affected citizens to inform them of the notice. The community centre is open to citizens in need, and transportation is available. This is the second state of emergency declared in Maria in less than a week. Almost a metre of water accumulated on Rue des Tournepierres due to heavy coastal surges Wednesday.Although people aren't being forced to depart, Maria's mayor, Jean-Claude Landry, is urging residents at risk to leave their properties."We're asking people to co-operate, because we wouldn't want people not to get out," said Landry. As a precautionary measure, the municipality cut off sewer services for 48 hours.'You have to be realistic' The most vulnerable homes are built on a sand spit in the delta of the Rivière Verte, northeast of the municipality.Coastal flooding there is common during high tides."Having your coffee in front of the Baie-des-Chaleurs, when it's calm, is wonderful. And I understand people [wanting to stay], except that at some point there are risks and you have to be realistic," said Landry.Landry said discussions with public safety officials are ongoing.Last November, at an information meeting attended by 70 people, the mayor estimated that a third of the residents present were considering leaving the area and taking advantage of financial assistance from Quebec City to relocate.Environment Canada is forecasting up to 30 centimetres of snow for Baie-des-Chaleurs, the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula and Murdochville on Saturday. Weather conditions are expected to improve later tonight.Gusts of up to 90 km/h are expected in the Magdalen Islands on Saturday night.

Alberta emergency power alert underlines challenge of energy transition on Prairies-Flexibility needed in regulations to decarbonize the country’s electricity grids, says energy economist
Jim Brown · CBC News · Posted: Jan 14, 2024 4:52 PM EST |

Saturday evening's emergency alert from the province of Alberta, warning of rotating power outages because of pressure on the electrical grid caused by the extreme cold, underlines just how difficult the energy transition is going to be in the Prairie provinces, according to economist Andrew Leach. It also demonstrates why more flexibility is needed in Ottawa's Clean Energy Regulations to decarbonize the country's electricity grids, he says.Alberta's electrical grid recovers after extreme cold prompts threat of rolling power outages-The emergency alert was issued at 6:44 p.m. Saturday. Residents were asked to immediately reduce electricity use to essentials only. The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) urged Albertans to turn off unnecessary lights, avoid cooking with a stove and delay charging electric vehicles. The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) ended the grid alert for the system just before 9 p.m.Leach is an energy and environmental economist and a professor of economics and law at the University of Alberta. In an interview with CBC News on Sunday, he said the emergency alert was a result of a confluence of extreme conditions. "You had, for much of Alberta, the coldest night in 50 years, you had … a particularly acute low wind event, and last night a lack of import availability because of a lot of pressures on the Saskatchewan grid and on the B.C. grid at the same time as we were facing pressures. Add to that the unexpected outage of a gas plant. That alone puts you there," Leach said. The province's energy grid had as little as 10 megawatts in reserve power at one point on Saturday night, according to the AESO supply demand report.Shortly after the alert was issued, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe put out a tweet, saying his province was providing 153 megawatts of power to Alberta to help them during the shortage. The tweet included a pointed barb aimed at the prime minister."That power will be coming from natural gas and coal-fired plants, the ones the Trudeau government is telling us to shut down (which we won't)," Moe wrote.Leach says he understands where that impulse to fight back against Ottawa's new Clean Energy Regulations comes from.He says just because other markets in the U.S. and Canada can make this switch to largely renewable systems without risking grid reliability, that doesn't mean that Alberta and Saskatchewan are being too pro-fossil fuel when they push back."That presents a really big challenge and I think people have been too quick to wave that away," Leach said.Leif Sollid is the communications manager for AESO. He says the last time the province was this close to implementing rotating power outages was during another extreme weather event."The last time we had rotating outages — which means we've run out of our backup reserves — was back in July of 2013, during the flood. So it's been 11 years since we've been in this tight of a supply situation," he told CBC Radio's Daybreak Alberta on Sunday morning. If rotating outages are required, they would occur simultaneously in small pockets across the province and they would be approximately 30 minutes in duration. "What the outages do is basically bring down overall system demand, so we can balance supply and demand. Supply and demand balance is absolutely critical," Sollid said.Pointing to the fact that the province had a 12 per cent increase in power generating capacity last year, and is expecting similar growth this year, Sollid said grid alerts, like those issued over the past few days, should become less necessary in the future."The supply picture is actually very positive, and that will help us over the longer term," he said. But Leach says not all additional capacity is created equal, especially on the Prairies."A lot of that increase last year was solar power, so solar capacity doesn't change anything at all for a 7 p.m. January spike," he said."You could have had 50,000 megawatts, all the solar farms and wind farms in the world located in Alberta, and it still wouldn't have come anywhere close to closing that gap."That's why Leach says regulatory flexibility is needed for the part of the country that is awash in cheap energy in the summer, from wind and solar, but in the depths of winter, during really cold conditions and really high energy loads, those resources do not generate a lot of power."A solution relying exclusively on wind power, solar power and trade isn't going to get you through a really cold, dark night in Alberta," he said.AESO's Leif Sollid said immediately after Saturday's emergency alert was issued, people in the system control room could see a drop in power demand. "It immediately fell by 100 megawatts and a couple of minutes later, it fell another 100 megawatts. So, a 200-megawatt drop, and that got us through what we call the hump," he said.Until the cold snap ends, Albertans can continue to help by reducing power and conserving electricity during the peak period, Sollid said."It's simple things… things like not running your dishwasher, not doing laundry, not plugging in your car, putting your block heater on a timer so it's drawing power outside of that 4 to 7 p.m. window. Very small things like that, but when done across the province, as we saw last night, things like that will make a difference and will help us out."Leach agrees. Looking ahead to Sunday evening, he says electricity reduction will remain important."It's really not looking great. We're not at the crisis level that we had last night, but 5 and 9 p.m. the market's still going to be pretty tight," he said."We need a small drop in demand. We don't need everybody to change everything."With files from Brendan Coulter

Millions of Americans face frigid temperatures as storms bring more Arctic air and snow-The National Weather Service warned windy, subfreezing conditions in Montana and the Dakotas could push wind chills as low as minus 56 degrees Celsius. The Associated Press-Jan 14, 2024

Subfreezing temperatures across much of the U.S. left millions of Americans facing potentially dangerous cold Sunday as Arctic storms threatened near-blizzard conditions in the northeast and several inches of snow in portions of the South. The National Weather Service warned windy, subfreezing conditions in Montana and the Dakotas could push wind chills as low as minus 56 degrees Celsius. An estimated 95 million people were under weather warnings or advisories for wind chills below minus 17 C, according to the weather service. Forecasters said the severe cold was expected to push as far south as northern Texas.Even parts of northern Louisiana, Alabama and Georgia could also see snow. In Shreveport, La., Mary Trammel was among residents who stocked up on bottled water, food and fuel for generators ahead of subfreezing weather forecast to bring up an inch of snow and leave roads coated in ice.“It’s cold out here,” said Tramel, who told KSLA-TV she bought bread and ingredients for enough soup to last multiple days. “I can get what I need and make sure the house is stored good.”Officials warned people to say off the roads in Buffalo, where snowfall of 0.3 to 0.6 metres was forecast. The severe storm forced the postponement of the Buffalo Bills-Pittsburgh Steelers NFL playoff game from Sunday to Monday. Wind gusts as high as 80 km/h were also possible, said Zack Taylor, a National Weather Service meteorologist in College Park, Maryland.“They’re expected to see both the intense snowfall, but also the extreme wind,” Taylor said. “That’s why they’re expecting to see near-blizzard conditions at times.”Airports across the country were effected. More than half of flights into and out of Buffalo Niagara International Airport were cancelled. Scores of flights were also cancelled or delayed at Chicago O’Hare International Airport, Denver International Airport and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.Forecasters also warned Sunday intense bursts of heavy snow and wind could cause drastic and sudden drops in visibility in eastern Pennsylvania and parts of northern New Jersey and Delaware. The weather service urged people to stay off the roads, saying such squalls could bring “near whiteout conditions and a quick one-half inch of snow in just 10 to 15 minutes.”Another Arctic storm that’s dumped heavy snowfall in the Rockies was forecast to push farther south, potentially bringing 0.10 to 0.15 metres of snow to portions of Arkansas, northern Mississippi and west Tennessee.Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders declared a state of emergency ahead of the severe weather to give utility trucks and trucks hauling essential supplies greater flexibility to respond.More than 150,000 homes and businesses in Oregon were without electricity Sunday following heavy snow and ice storms, according to poweroutage.us. Widespread outages affecting tens of thousands were also reported in Michigan and Wisconsin. The harsh weather in Oregon played a role in three deaths. In Portland, medical examiners were investigating a hypothermia death as freezing rain and heavy snow fell in a city more accustomed to mild winter rains, and hundreds of people took shelter overnight at warming centers.Portland Fire and Rescue also reported the death of a woman in her early 30s on Saturday afternoon. An RV caught fire when a small group of people used an open flame stove to keep warm inside and a tree fell on the vehicle, causing the fire to spread. Three other people escaped, including one with minor injuries, but the woman was trapped inside, the fire department said.Authorities in Lake Oswego, Oregon, said a large tree fell on a home during high winds Saturday, killing an older man on the second floor.Weather-related deaths already were reported earlier in the week in California, Idaho, Illinois and Wisconsin.

A volcano erupts in southwestern Iceland, sending lava flowing toward nearby settlement"We just watch it on the cameras and there's really nothing else we can do," said resident Reynir Berg Jonsson.-The Associated Press-Marco Di Marco-Jan 14, 2024

REYKJAVIK, Iceland — A volcano in southwestern Iceland erupted for the second time in less than a month on Sunday, sending lava snaking toward a nearby community and setting at least one home on fire. The eruption, which began just before 8 a.m. local time, came after authorities evacuated the town of Grindavik following a swarm of small earthquakes, the Icelandic Meteorological Office said. Hours later, a second fissure opened near the edge of town and lava crept toward the homes.“We just watch it on the cameras and there’s really nothing else we can do,” resident Reynir Berg Jonsson, told Iceland’s RUV television.Grindavik is a town of 3,800 people about 50 kilometres southwest of Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital. The community was previously evacuated in November following a series of earthquakes that opened large cracks in the earth between the town and Sýlingarfell, a small mountain to the north. The nearby Blue Lagoon geothermal spa — one of Iceland’s biggest tourist attractions — also closed temporarily. The volcano eventually erupted on Dec. 18, and residents were allowed to return to their homes on Dec. 22.In the weeks since then, defensive walls had been built around the volcano in hopes of directing lava away from the community. But the walls of the barriers built north of Grindavik have been breached and lava is moving toward the community, the meteorological office said.Iceland, which sits above a volcanic hot spot in the North Atlantic, averages one eruption every four to five years. The most disruptive in recent times was the 2010 eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano, which spewed clouds of ash into the atmosphere and disrupted transatlantic air travel for months. But Sunday’s eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula isn’t expected to release large amounts of ash into the air. Operations at Keflavik Airport are continuing as normal, said Gudjon Helgason, airport operator Isavia’s press officer. Before last month’s eruption, the area known broadly as Svartsengi volcano had been dormant for around 780 years. The volcano is just a few kilometres west of Fagradalsfjall, which was dormant for 6,000 years before flaring to life in March 2021. The latest eruption was more powerful than those in recent years.

Biometrics implementations around the world undermined by lack of consent-Jan 13, 2024, 11:04 am EST    | Chris Burt

Biometrics issues related to consent were a theme running through many of the most-read articles of the week on Biometric Update. Digi Yatra sign-ups and DNA research tainted by a lack of consent, like surreptitious searches of passport data with facial recognition by UK police, fuel popular anxieties about biometrics. The industry is well aware. This week’s example is Google turning to a cash incentive in an attempt to build up an ethically-sourced dataset for age verification development. Meanwhile, CES again demonstrates the increasing value consumers place on biometrics. Automotive biometrics featured at the Vegas show include offerings from trinamiX, Precise Biometrics and Cerence.Top biometrics news of the week-NADRA’s technology development arm NTL has struck a deal with public telecom and IT equipment company NRTC to jointly support the domestic development of biometrics and digital identity-related technologies. NADRA will contribute its expertise gained in the implementation of digital ID solutions based on the Pakistan ID Stack, while NRTC contributes expertise in electronics and software development.Reports are emerging from India that air travellers were enrolled in the ostensibly voluntary Digi Yatra program without giving their consent or being properly informed. People at multiple airports say travellers were registered en masse for the program, which promises paperless airport experiences through biometrics. Government and airport officials disagreed about who is responsible.DNA samples were collected from members of two of China’s ethnic minorities on a mandatory basis and then used in academic research, prompting multiple papers to be withdrawn. European researchers blamed the Chinese government for the ethical failing. DNA equipment-maker Thermo Fisher has halted sales in Tibet in response to rights concerns, though the research samples were taken from Uyghur and Kazakh people.UK police have searched the nation’s database of passport photos with facial recognition algorithms in attempts to identify violent criminals, hundreds of times since at least 2019. The public was never informed, and the practice was first raised as a policy suggestion just months ago. The revelations are raising uncomfortable questions for the government as facial recognition is increasingly adopted for law enforcement and public security, even as oversight is arguably being reduced. The LAPD is planning a real-time surveillance center, and wants to hook up ten thousand cameras operated by private businesses and individuals to its network. The center and its surveillance camera network are related to a plan to reduce organized retail theft called Project Blue Light.Google is working with a subsidiary of Canadian telco Telus to build up a dataset to use in developing facial age verification. TIAI is paying $50 for short videos of children and the consent of their parents.Joy Buolamwini makes the case in a Wired editorial that this year identity theft and anti-surveillance innovation will each get a boost from increased adoption of biometrics. Buolamwini also sees “the rise of the faceless” and the bifurcation between places where mass surveillance is normalized and “free-face territories.”AI was the dominant theme of this year’s CES in Las Vegas, and biometrics developers took a prominent part in the massive trade show. Automotive biometrics technologies were showed off by Precise Biometrics and Cerence, among others. New cameras and sensors from Orbbec and other developers were on display, and smart locks provided a range of options for biometric modalities.TrinamiX unveiled its face biometrics system for both outside the vehicle to unlock doors and inside to start the engine at CES. The Face Authentication Display system has been integrated by Continental, and even Lamborghini is getting in on the automotive biometrics trend.TSA’s priorities for this year include adding pilots for accepting mobile driver’s licenses and digital IDs at airports to two more states. The agency also wants to double the number of airports where PreCheck members can quickly complete security checks with their face biometrics, according to its 2024 action plan.Sierra Leone is running a campaign to increase public adoption of its biometric ID cards, made with X Infotech technology. The NCRA has opened facilities across the country for in-person registration, and says obtaining the card is each citizen’s civic responsibility.Indonesia now says its digital ID will launch in the second half of the year along with a digital payments service and a data exchange platform. Public corporation Peruri is in charge of the countries efforts to upgrade public services with investments in DPI.Please tell us about any thought leadership or opinion pieces we should share with the people who work in biometrics and the broader digital identity industry, either in the comments below or through social media.

HOARDING OF GOLD AND SILVER

JAMES 5:1-3
1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

REVELATION 18:10,17,19
10 Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.(IN 1 HR THE STOCK MARKETS WORLDWIDE WILL CRASH)
17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
19 And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

EZEKIEL 7:19
19 They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed:(CONFISCATED) their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.

REVELATION 16:1-2
1 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.
2 And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.

I KNOW THIS MARK WILL BE A MICROCHIP IMPLANT UNDER THE SKIN. LETS LOOK UP WHAT THE WORD MARK SAYS IN REVELATION 13:16-18, 14:9,11, 15:2, 16:2, 19:20, 20:4-ALL THESE VERSES FROM THE BOOK OF REVELATION SPEAK OF THIS DICTATORS MARK. NOW LETS SEE WHAT IT MEANS FROM STRONGS EXAUSTIVE CONCORDANCE OF THE BIBLE. UNDER MARK PAGE 684.MARK UNDER MARK. THE OLD TESTAMENT IS UNDER HEBREW AND THE NEW TESTAMENT IS UNDER GREEK. SO WHEN WE LOOK UNDER REVELATION 13:16-17 WE SEE IT IS UNDER GREEK, SO WE GO TO GREEK IN THE BACK SECTION AND GO TO 5480 TO SEE WHAT IT SAYS THIS MARK WOULD BE. SO LETS GET TO IT.MARK IN STRONGS GREEK 5480 XAPAYUA CHARAGMA, KHAR-AG-MAH: FROM THE SAME AS 5482: A SCRATCH OR ETCHING, I.E STAMP (AS A BADGE OF SERVITUDE), OR SCULPTURED FIGURE-(STATUE):-GRAVEN, MARK FROM 5482 XAPAE CHARAX, KHAR-AX; FROM XAPAOOW CHARASSO (TO SHARPEN TO A POINT; AKIN TO 1125 THROUGH THE IDEA OF SCRATCHING); A STAKE, I.E (BYIMPL.) Latinstimulus, etc.; German stechen, English stick, sting, etc.; Curtius, § 226)), a mark pricked in or branded upon the body. According to ancient oriental usage, slaves and soldiers bore the name or stamp of their master or commander branded or pricked (cut) into their bodies to indicate what master or general they belonged to, and there were even some devotees who stamped themselves in this way with the token of their gods (cf. Deyling, Observations, iii., p. 423ff); hence, τά στίγματα τοῦ (κυρίου so Rec.) Ἰησοῦ, the marks of (the Lord) Jesus, which Paul in Galatians 6:17 says he bears branded on his body, are the traces left there by the perils, hardships, imprisonments, scourgings, endured by him for the cause of Christ, and which mark him as Christ's faithful and approved votary, servant, soldier (see Lightfoots Commentary on Galatians, the passage cited). RUNNING LOW Wireless charger implanted under your SKIN that uses human body to top batteries being developed by scientists-The charger is biodegradable and can dissolve in the body-Aiya Zhussupova-Published: 13:23, 4 Jan 2024

SCIENTISTS have created a wireless charger that could be inserted under the skin and could harvest energy from the body itself.Patients with medical implants might ditch clunky batteries and wiring that comes with them if a follow-up research proves successful.Chinese scientists developed a wireless charger that can be implanted under the skin-It could use the body to produce more energy and dissolves over time-The new technology has been tested in rodents only but the implications for human use could be groundbreaking. The scientists at Lanzhou University in China have developed a prototype wireless charging chip that can be implanted under the skin. The prototype can wirelessly transfer energy through the body or use the body to top up batteries. The flexible and soft chip is also adaptable to the shape of tissue during a procedure and it's biodegradable. Most bioelectronic devices are powered by onboard batteries with limited capacity.Often these medical devices are hooked up to an external power supply which can risk causing infection in a patient, especially if a surgery is needed to replace parts.Biodegradable charger would allow the patients to avoid this problem as it dissolves in the body without a need for surgical removal. In rats, the prototype worked up to ten days and dissolved completely within two months. It could last longer than that if the team thickened the protective polymer and wax layers enclosing the battery.Wei Lan, study co-author, told Live Science: "Our prototyped power supply system represents an important step forward in advancing a wide range of biodegradable implantable medical devices with its potential to provide effective and reliable energy solutions."The prototype power supply uses a magnesium coil that charges when a second coil is placed above the skin.Power passes through a circuit and then enters an energy-storage module made of zinc-ion hybrid capacitors.Despite storing less energy per unit than batteries do, the implant can discharge a large amount of energy at once. When the prototype is attached to a medical implant, it ensures a constant power supply into the device. But there is still a long way until the wireless charger can be tested on humans. The research team has to overcome multiple hurdles, including finding a way to turn the device on or off.As of now, it stops working only when it runs out of power."At present, the size of the system is still relatively large and contains a small rectifier module [which converts between AC and DC], and stability needs to be further improved," Lan said.

Next Biometrics’ fingerprint sensor receives Chinese security certification-Jan 12, 2024, 12:51 pm EST-| Masha Borak

Next Biometrics has a significant step towards expanding its footprint in the second most populous nation in the world. The Norwegian fingerprint sensor maker has received the China ID certification for its popular FAP20 sensor, allowing it to access more market segments in the country.Marcus Laurén, chief product officer at Next, says that the certification will open doors to high-end markets. Only a few original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) globally hold the China ID certificate. The certification was obtained through a local Chinese partner.“Achieving the China ID is a key milestone in our entry into [the] biometric market in China,” says Laurén. “The certification is the result of a rigorous testing process, where the partner, and all its hardware and software integrations, must prove to be compliant with strict security requirements.”The FAP20 sensor is already certified by both the FBI and the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), according to the firm. Obtaining the Chinese security requirement, which is similar to that of India’s biometric identity program Aadhaar, means that Next’s sensor is ready to be used for on-device authentication and verification in industries such as government and banking. The news comes as the company continues on a steady growth trajectory in the Asian market. At the beginning of January, Next sealed a deal to deliver another batch of FAP20 fingerprint sensors to a Singapore-based customer by the end of Q1 2024, following a similar order the previous month for the Chinese market. At the time, Next Biometrics CEO Ulf Ritsvall said that the China ID certification would mean more orders for the firm. The company has also made deals in India last year for Aadhaar L1-certified authentication devices. In September 2024, the Oslo-based company announced it raised about NOK 60 million (US$5.4million) to boost its operations and prepare for future orders.

IUSSP launches initiative to address ethics in biometric population registration-Jan 12, 2024, 12:21 pm EST-| Bianca Gonzalez

The International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP) has announced an initiative to establish interdisciplinary dialogues and policy research to consider human rights in the population register systems field as more incorporate biometric identification.Digital ID systems like India’s Aadhaar, the GhanaCard, and South Africa’s Home Affairs National Identification System each leverage biometrics in their digital registration systems. The systems are often shaped by each nation’s individual capacities and weaknesses, but have already altered the foundation for economic growth in various countries, despite setbacks in implementation.Stakeholders are concerned that implementing digital CRVS systems can create new challenges for obtaining accurate population data – a problem that should ideally be minimized by the digitalization of such systems.Vulnerable subpopulations could potentially be excluded from the systems, while young scholars in the global South may be excluded from discourse that addresses issues in biometric registration systems. A major risk of the implementation of such systems is the destruction of the right to privacy. The IUSSP is a global organization made up mostly of academic and government bodies concerned with demography and the scientific study of population. It is partnering with the Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research in South Africa, the Initiative for Social and Economic Rights in Uganda, and the USC Institute on Inequalities on Global Health in the U.S. to launch a year-long research collaboration and fellowship program. The program is intended to facilitate interdisciplinary research from young scholars and practitioners on human rights considerations to inform policy on population register systems. The collaboration would help position institutions in the global North to support the development of research and policy guidance from early career researchers in the global South. The initiative would nurture the development of the next generation of scholars through mentorship and immersion, networking, and visibility, also giving them the opportunity to collaborate with all partner organizations and other fellows in the program. The intention of the program is to include new perspectives into discourse to challenge current frameworks for digitizing registration systems. Population scientists have been able to document instances where population data systems of the past were leveraged in instances of mass human rights abuses. There is less discourse on contemporary national identity systems that rely on biometrics and digitally link to other registries, and the initiative seeks to facilitate this discourse. The initiative will support research projects of three IUSSP Population, Ethics and Human Rights Fellows. It will produce interdisciplinary materials that inform stakeholders on ethics and human rights opportunities and challenges that the use of biometrics in registry systems creates.Lastly, the initiative will share essays and podcasts that highlight new research and debates from population researchers.

US wants freer hand searching Norway biometric databases when visitors show up-Jan 12, 2024, 12:14 pm EST-| Jim Nash

The U.S. is making a new data-access demand of Norway in return for visa-free travel between them. There are reports that Washington’s Homeland Security Department wants to move from having to ask for biometric and criminal data about Norwegian visitors and instead doing searches itself. No agreement has been announced. In an existing agreement similar to one the U.S. has signed with other favored nations, Washington relaxes visa requirements of Norwegians wanting to travel to the country. The U.S. and EU have struggled to come to a similar agreement. To get that deal – considered very attractive for visiting nations – Norway began sharing results of fingerprint match requests last summer. A DNA component of the arrangement has not been implemented.U.S. officials get some identity, background and advance itinerary information reportedly useful in spotting terrorists from Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) applications. Now the U.S. wants Norway to share police databases so that American border officials can get information about its residents seeking entry through automated searches.Norwegian officials get access to Homeland Security data. And leisure and business travelers escape getting a visa for stays of up to 90 days. There are concerns among privacy advocates that the new terms give the U.S. unfettered access to multiple national databases which include sensitive personal data.
