DEFECTOR POPE WATCH-THE FINAL POPE IN HISTORY.

DEFECTOR POPE WATCH-THE FINAL POPE IN HISTORY.

A FALSE PROPHET COMES FROM THE VATICAN ALSO AT THIS TIME.

ISAIAH 23:15-17
15  And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot.
16  Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered.
17  And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth.(COULD THIS BE 70 YEARS AFTER ISRAEL BECAME A NATION IN 1948)(IF SO THIS SATANIC ONE WORLD WHORE CHURCH WILL MINGLE TOGETHER BY 2018)(AND NOW ISLAM AND CHRISTIANITY AND ALL RELIGIONS ARE MINGLING AS ONE PEACE-LOVE-JOY-GET ALONG RELIGION LEAD BY THE VATICAN RIGHT NOW 4 YEARS FROM THE 70 YEAR TIME WHEN ISRAEL BECAME A NATION).AND IN CONTROL OF JERUSALEM.

REVELATION 13:11-18
11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth;(FALSE VATICAN POPE) and he had two horns like a lamb,(JESUS IS THE LAMB OF GOD) and he spake as a dragon.(HES SATANICALLY INSPIRED,HES A CHRISTIAN DEFECTOR FROM THE FAITH)
12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him,(WORLD DICTATOR) and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.(THE WORLD DICTATOR CREATES A FALSE RESURRECTION AND IS CROWNED LEADER OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER).
13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16 And he(FALSE POPE) causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:(CHIP IMPLANT)
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.(6-6-6) A NUMBER SYSTEM

REVELATION 17:1-18
1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:(VATICAN)
2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication,(VATICAN IN POLITICS) and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.(THATS PEDOPHELIA-FORNICATION IS SINGLES HAVING SEX OUT SIDE OF MARRIAGE)(AND SINCE PREISTS CAN NOT MARRY IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THIS FALSE CHURCH GOES AGAINST THE BIBLE.THE CATHOLIC CHURCH BECOMES A HOMOSEXUAL HAVEN OF PEDOPHILIAS FACTORY).
3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
4 And the woman (FALSE CHURCH) was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour,(VATICAN COLOURS)(ANOTHER REASON WE KNOW THE FALSE POPE COMES FROM THE VATICAN) and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:(THE VATICAN GOES AGAINST A PRIEST MARRING A WOMAN-LIKE THE BIBLE SAYS-AND WHATS AN ABOMINATION AGAINST GOD-HOMOSEXUALITY AND PEDOPHILIA JUST LIKE THIS SCRIPTURE SAYS-FORNICATION IS THE SINGLE HOMOSEXUAL PRIESTS IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH HAVING UNMARRIED FORNICATION OR SEX WITH SINGLES-IN THIS CASE ITS SEX WITH CHILDREN OR PEDOPHILIA)
5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.(THE VATICAN IS BUILT ON 7 HILLS OR MOUNTAINS)
10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen,(1-ASSYRIA,2-EGYPT,3-BABYLON,4-MEDO-PERSIA,5-GREECE) and one is,(IN POWER IN JOHNS AND JESUS DAY-6-ROME) and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.(7TH-REVIVED ROMAN EMPIRE OR THE EUROPEAN UNION TODAY AND THE SHORT SPACE IS-THE EUROPEAN UNION WILL HAVE WORLD CONTROL FOR THE LAST 3 1/2 YEARS.BUT WILL HAVE ITS MIGHTY WORLD POWER FOR THE FULL 7 YEARS OF THE 7 YEAR TRIBULATION PERIOD.AND THE WORLD DICTATOR WILL BE THE BEAST FROM THE EU.AND THE VATICAN POPE WILL BE THE WHORE THAT RIDES THE EUROPEAN UNION TO POWER.AND THE 2 EUROPEAN UNION POWER FREAKS WILL CONTROL AND DECIEVE THE WHOLE EARTH INTO THEIR DESTRUCTION.IF YOU ARE NOT SAVED BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS.YOU WILL BE DECIEVED BY THESE TWO.THE WORLD POLITICIAN-THE EUROPEAN UNION DICTATOR.AND THE FALSE PROPHET THAT DEFECTS CHRISTIANITY-THE FALSE VATICAN POPE.
11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.
12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.
14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.(VATICAN-CATHOLICS ALL AROUND THE WORLD OVER 1 BILLION)
16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast,(WORLD DICTATOR) these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.(GOD HIMSELF GIVES THE OK TO NUKE THE VATICAN)
17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.
18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.(VATICAN)

Conclave Schedule: What Time Does the Smoke Appear? If the new pope is not elected on the first morning ballot, a second ballot is held immediately.May 7, 2025

As the conclave gets underway, all eyes turn to the small chimney atop the Sistine Chapel. From this simple metal tube will emerge the long-awaited white smoke that will announce the election of the new pope.Black smoke billowed from the Sistine Chapel chimney Wednesday evening to the watchful eyes of pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square as the first day of conclave voting concluded without a new pontiff. Beginning Thursday, the cardinals will hold four votes each day: two in the morning and two in the afternoon. Each round of votes is followed by smoke from the chimney, which will be black if still no agreement has been reached, or white if the new pontiff has been elected. If the new pope is not elected on the first morning ballot, a second ballot is held immediately. Both ballots are burned together, leading to possible smoke around noon Rome time. If, however, the pope is elected on the first morning ballot, the white smoke will appear shortly after 10:30 a.m.The same process is repeated in the afternoon. After a brief break, two more votes will be held. If neither is conclusive, the smoke is expected around 7 p.m. Rome time. However, if the pope is elected on the first ballot of the afternoon, white smoke would be seen shortly after 5:30 p.m.Thus, on both Thursday and Friday, observers should be alert for four possible times when the smoke may appear each day: two around noon and two in the evening. The smoke is produced by burning the ballot of every cardinal along with chemical compounds that make the smoke black or white. After white smoke appears, the bells of St. Peter’s will ring loudly to confirm the awaited announcement: “Habemus papam!” (“We have a pope!”).

Black smoke billowed from the Sistine Chapel chimney Wednesday evening to the watchful eyes of pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square as the first day of conclave voting concluded without a new pontiff. The dark plume emerged at approximately 9 p.m. Rome time, confirming the 133 cardinal electors sequestered inside had not reached the required two-thirds majority — at least 89 votes — needed to elect Pope Francis’ successor. The College of Cardinals began their deliberations earlier Wednesday following the “Pro Eligendo Romano Pontifice” (“For the Election of the Roman Pontiff”) Mass celebrated in St. Peter’s Basilica.Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, dean of the College of Cardinals, presided over the liturgy that officially opened the conclave proceedings.Shortly thereafter, the cardinal electors processed into the Sistine Chapel. The cardinals will return to the Sistine Chapel Thursday morning for two voting sessions before noon (Rome time) and two more in the afternoon. With each inconclusive ballot, smoke from burnt voting papers will continue to emerge black until the moment a new pope is elected. When a candidate secures the necessary votes, white smoke will signal to the world that the Catholic Church has a new shepherd.Cardinal Dominique Mamberti, the senior cardinal deacon, will then appear on the central loggia of St. Peter’s Basilica to make the traditional “Habemus papam” announcement, revealing the identity of the 266th successor to St. Peter.During the 12 general congregations leading up to the conclave, cardinals identified several key challenges facing the Church, including evangelization, vocations, sexual abuse, Vatican finances, synodality, and global conflicts.

First American-born pope Cardinal Robert Prevost elected, takes name Pope Leo XIV-By Chris Nesi-Published May 8, 2025

Habemus papam — and he’s American! Cardinal Robert Prevost be the next pope, taking the reins of the Roman Catholic Church after the death of Pope Francis last month. He has taken the name Pope Leo XIV. Cardinal Robert Prevost — who was born in Chicago — is an American missionary who spent his career ministering in Peru and leads the Vatican’s powerful office of bishops.White smoke appeared from the Sistine Chapel chimney on Thursday afternoon, signifying to the world that the College of Cardinals had reached the required two-thirds majority on the new pope. The 133 eligible voting cardinals have been sequestered in the historic chapel for a secretive voting process known as the conclave.

Several names have been called lead contenders ahead of the conclave, but the relatively new pool of cardinals in the running – about 80% in the conclave were appointed since Francis was named in 2013 – has left speculation difficult.Among the top contenders is Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s secretary of state under Francis who presided over the conclave. The 70-year-old is considered far less charismatic than Francis was but has been called a savvy statesman who could be an asset for the Catholic Church’s standing in the world. But some say he is too much a bureaucrat and not enough a pastor – and that the leader of the Catholics should be focused on religion and not diplomacy.White smoke rising from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel, indicating a new Pope has been elected at the Vatican 5Another leader is Luis Antonio Gokim Tagle, a Filipino cardinal who has been outspoken about furthering Francis’ progressive policies. The 67-year-old’s approach to the public is closer to Francis’ enthusiastic openness, while Catholicism has been on the rise in Southeast Asia and the church has been vocal about trying to continue expanding that reach. And Fridolin Ambongo, a 65-year-old cardinal from the Democratic Republic of Congo has been pressing the church to expand its reach to corners of the world that have historically gotten less attention – like Africa and Asia.Ambongo’s appointment would mirror the arrival of Francis – the first non-European church leader since 741 — from one of those corners. But Ambongo, like most cardinals from Africa, is far more conservative than many of the lead contenders. The new pope is the 267th in history and will follow Pope Francis, 88, who died April 21 after a lengthy bout with respiratory illness culminating in a stroke and heart failure. This vote was relatively speedy, though not unprecedented for modern times – with the last three popes all having been selected on the second day of conclave.

A first American pope? Cardinal Robert Prevost's name comes up as a potential successor to Pope Francis.

May 7, 2025 / 10:12 AM EDT / CBS News-Vatican City — Of the 266 popes who have led the Catholic Church, not one of them has been from the United States. While the relative youth of the nation means fewer than 20 of those men served after the U.S. Declaration of Independence in 1776, one prominent U.S. bishop has a possible explanation for the lack of an American leader of the world's Catholics up until now.Robert Barron, bishop of the Diocese of Winona–Rochester in Minnesota, was appointed less than a week ago by President Trump to the new White House Commission on Religious Liberty. This week, however, he's at the Vatican with hundreds of other prelates as the cardinal electors gather for the conclave to choose a new pontiff to succeed Pope Francis.Barron has spent days speaking with the cardinals — including the 133 cardinal electors tasked with electing the new pope — as they try to figure out among themselves who is best to lead the church next."Cardinal George of Chicago, of happy memory, was one of my great mentors, and he said: 'Look, until America goes into political decline, there won't be an American pope.' And his point was, if America is kind of running the world politically, culturally, economically, they don't want America running the world religiously. So, I think there's some truth to that, that we're such a superpower and so dominant, they don't wanna give us, also, control over the church." That said, one American name has popped up repeatedly amid the gossip over leading contenders for the role of pontiff: Cardinal Robert Prevost.

Extra Omnes:’ Cardinals Closed in Conclave Begin the Election of the New Pope-The 133 cardinal-electors begin the process, following prayer and taking of their oaths. A reflection and Marian hymn will precede the first vote.May 7, 2025

With the proclamation of extra omnes (“outside everyone”) on the afternoon of May 7, the thick wooden doors of the Sistine Chapel were closed and guarded at every entrance by Swiss Guards while the 133 cardinal-electors began the process of choosing the new pope and leader of the universal Catholic Church.Seated at rows of tables beneath the gaze of Michelangelo’s powerful image of the Last Judgment, before any further discussions or the expected first casting of votes (called the scrutio), the cardinal-electors will listen to a meditation from 90-year-old Capuchin Cardinal Raniero Cantalamessa, the former preacher of the Papal Household for 44 years.According to the rubrics for conclaves, Cardinal Cantalamessa — selected last week by the College of Cardinals — should preach to the electors on the very serious nature of their task and the necessity that they act with right intention, doing their best to carry out the will of God, and willing the good of the whole Church, to elect the next Roman pontiff. Then, Cardinal Cantalamessa and Archbishop Diego Ravelli, the master of papal ceremonies, will be the last two people to leave the Sistine Chapel before voting begins. The first view of smoke from the Sistine Chapel chimney is expected sometime this evening Rome time. The session will close with an invocation to the Virgin Mary, the chanting of the Sub Tuum Praesidium, the Church’s oldest Marian hymn. The rite of procession into the conclave and the swearing of the cardinals began from the Pauline Chapel in the Apostolic Palace at 4:30 p.m. Rome time. The cardinals, in order of rank, processed a short distance into the Sistine Chapel to the chanting of the Litany of Saints, followed by invocations, including a prayer that the Lord “grant to your Church a pontiff who pleases you with the holiness of his life” and “that you pour out upon this conclave the power of your Spirit.”Inside the Sistine Chapel, each cardinal-elector stood before his assigned seat, facing the Book of the Gospels, placed on a lectern in the center of the room.Cardinal Pietro Parolin, secretary of state during Francis’ pontificate, intoned the Veni Creator Spiritus and then, as celebrant of the rite, prayed: “O Father, who guides and guards your Church, give to your servants the Spirit of intelligence, of truth, of peace, so that they may strive to know your will, and serve you with total dedication. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.”A moment of silence preceded Cardinal Parolin’s reading of the oath each cardinal is required to take: “We promise, obligate, and swear that we will faithfully and scrupulously observe all the prescriptions contained in the apostolic constitution of the Supreme Pontiff John Paul II, Universi Dominus Gregis… Likewise, we promise, obligate, and swear that whichever of us, by divine disposition, is elected Roman pontiff, will undertake to faithfully carry out the “munus Petrinum” of pastor of the universal Church and will not fail to strenuously affirm and defend the spiritual and temporal rights and freedom of the Holy See. Above all, we promise and swear to observe with the utmost fidelity and with all, both clerics and laity, secrecy about everything that in any way pertains to the election of the Roman pontiff and about what takes place in the place of the election, concerning directly or indirectly the ballot; not to violate in any way this secrecy either during or after the election of the new pontiff, unless explicit authorization has been granted by the pontiff himself; never to lend support or favor to any interference, opposition, or other any form of intervention by which secular authorities of whatever order and degree, or any group of persons or individuals who wish to interfere in the election of the Roman pontiff.”Then, each of the 133 cardinals took their turn at the lectern and, placing his hand on the Book of the Gospels, said: “So help me God and these holy Gospels which I touch with my hand.”Archbishop Ravelli then declared extra omnes, all assistants and ministers left the room, and the livestream turned off.

The History Behind ‘Habemus Papam’ and the White Smoke That Announces a New Pope-A bell is also rung, part of the ritual introduced when Pope Benedict XVI was elected, which confirms the smoke is white and a new pope has been elected.May 6, 2025

When a new pope is elected, there are two signs that mark that historic moment: the white smoke (fumata bianca in Italian) erupting from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel and the formula habemus papam pronounced by the cardinal protodeacon from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica overlooking the square of the same name. This is the history of both traditions:The White Smoke-The history of the white smoke, which indicates that the cardinals have elected a new successor of St. Peter, is ancient. In 1274, at the Second Council of Lyons, Pope Gregory X, in a document titled Ubi Periculum, determined the procedure for holding a conclave. There he specified that the election would be done in isolation and with strict secrecy. For this reason, and to avoid any communication with the outside, the smoke signal was eventually adopted as part of the ritual. The tradition of burning ballots goes back to at least 1417, and likely before then, according to historian Frederic J. Baumgartner. The addition of the white spoke to announce the election of a new pope is more recent, however. Baumgartner traces it to 1914, with the election of Pope Benedict XV.If the smoke coming out of the chimney of the Sistine Chapel is black, it means that none of the proposed candidates has reached two-thirds of the votes needed to be elected. If the smoke is white, the Church has a new universal pastor. In ancient times, the method to give the smoke these colors was to burn the ballots used in the voting with a bit of wet straw so that it would come out black, or dry so as to obtain white smoke.Nowadays, and due to some episodes that caused confusion, special chemical compounds and a procedure that includes two different tubes, one for each color of smoke, are used.In addition, a bell is rung, part of the ritual introduced when Pope Benedict XVI was elected, which confirms the smoke is white and a new pope has been elected.Habemus Papam-The announcement that a new pontiff has been elected is formulated in Latin, and while its best-known words are “habemus papam,” the expression is officially a bit longer:“Annuntio vobis gaudium magnum: Habemus papam; Eminentissimum ac reverendissimum Dominum, Dominum [prænomen] Sanctæ Romanæ Ecclesiæ Cardinalem [nomen], qui sibi nomen imposuit [nomen pontificale].”Translated, the complete formula reads: “I announce to you a great joy: We have a pope! The Most Eminent and Most Reverend Lord, Don [given name], cardinal of the Holy Roman Church [surname], who has imposed on himself the name of [papal name].”The text is partially inspired by a passage from the Gospel of St. Luke, which reproduces the words of the angel when he announces the birth of Jesus to the shepherds: “Do not be afraid, for I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all: Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you, who is the Messiah, the Lord” (Luke 2:10-12).The adoption of this formula dates back to 1417 at the election of Pope Martin V. Those who claimed the papal throne before him were Antipope John XXIII (who had convoked the Council of Constance and appointed most of the electors), Antipope Benedict XIII (the only one appointed a cardinal before the Western Schism) and Pope Gregory XII.The first two were deposed by the council itself, and Gregory XII abdicated. Two years later, the council elected a new pope. For this reason, the announcement could be interpreted as: “(At last) we have a pope (and only one!).”A version of this story was first published by ACI Prensa, CNA’s Spanish-language news partner. It has been translated and adapted by CNA.

Cardinal Rueda: A Conclave Is ‘Quite Different’ From the Election of a President-Starting Wednesday, 133 cardinal electors from 71 countries are gathering in the Sistine Chapel, making this conclave the largest and most universal in the history of the Catholic Church.May 7, 2025

Colombian Cardinal Luis José Rueda Aparicio pointed out that the atmosphere among the cardinals is “quite different” from what people who associate a papal conclave “with a democratic election of a president” may imagine. From Rome, where he is participating as a cardinal elector, the archbishop of Bogotá explained in a video from the Colombian Bishops’ Conference how the College of Cardinals is experiencing the days leading up to the beginning of the Wednesday, May 7, conclave. “It’s a very different atmosphere than what most people might imagine, because some associate it with the democratic election of a president, a leader of a country or territory, but it turns out not to be the case. It’s characterized by an atmosphere of prayer from beginning to end,” he stated.“The great protagonist is the Holy Spirit. He is the one who leads, he is the one who holds the reins of the history of the Church,” he added.Starting Wednesday, 133 cardinal electors from 71 countries are gathering in the Sistine Chapel, making this conclave the largest and most universal in the history of the Catholic Church. In this regard, the cardinal archbishop said the preceeding days of holding general congregations have served to help the cardinals get to know one another.Cardinal Rueda also remembered the late Pope Francis as “a mature fruit of the evangelization of Latin America” and the experience of “those bishops close to the parish communities, to all the people who experience the hope of the Latin American people, which they place in Christ Jesus and in the Blessed Virgin Mary.”Finally, Cardinal Rueda asked the faithful to continue praying that the election of the next pope “may be according to the will of God the Father.”“This moment is a moment of the Church, and whoever it may be, he is the chosen one of the Lord, he is the chosen one of Jesus Christ the Lord,” he said.

Cardinal Czerny Causes Furor With Comments on a Potential African Pope-Pope Francis’ former point man on migrants has drawn criticism with comments in the context of the African continent being deeply opposed to the LGBTQ agenda.May 6, 2025

VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis’ former point man on migrants has drawn criticism by saying in an article published Sunday that some African cardinals make him “shudder” and that he believes “conservatives” are calling for an African pope to further their agenda. Cardinal Michael Czerny, a Jesuit who served as prefect at the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development in the last years of Pope Francis’ pontificate, made the derisive comments to The New York Times in the context of the African continent being deeply opposed to the LGBTQ agenda.“I can think of some African cardinals — they make me shudder,” Cardinal Czerny said in the article published May 4. When the newspaper asked whether conservative Catholics were rallying behind an African pope as a “Trojan horse” to further their agenda, Cardinal Czerny replied: “Certainly, certainly, certainly, and that’s why it’s so, so, so stupid to say things like Africa’s time has come.”It is not clear to which particular African cardinals Cardinal Czerny was referring. Several are known to be papabili, such as Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo of Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghanaian Cardinal Peter Turkson, former chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, and Guinean Cardinal Robert Sarah, prefect emeritus of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. It was also unclear if the cardinal’s comments were taken out of the context in which he had said them. The cardinal gave similar, yet more moderate, comments in a separate interview to America magazine, recorded on April 30. He said he becomes “agitated” when people say it is time for an American, African, or “South Islander” pope. “I think that is so stupid,” he opined. “It’s time for the successor of Peter for 2025.” The priority, he added, “is evangelization; to bring the Gospel to society in season and out of season; to bring the Gospel to all of creation.”The Czech-born Canadian cardinal is currently now unreachable for comment, as he is taking part in the conclave. His comments came ahead of remarks made by Bishop Robert Barron, founder of the Word on Fire Catholic media ministry, who, by contrast, believes geography is important in relation to the papacy, especially when it comes to Africa. He explained to EWTN’s Colm Flynn on May 5 that the Church is flourishing in Africa, especially in Nigeria, where around 94% of Catholics go to Mass, vocations are booming, and the Church is facing persecution. “Why are we so preoccupied with the Church in Germany, where the Church is kind of withering on the vine?” Bishop Barron asked. “Why don’t we study the Nigerian Church, and see what they’re doing, right, and let’s imitate it?” “So, yes, I think it might be the African moment,” the bishop continued. “And I do think in the synods during the Francis years, the Africans found their voice in a fresh way.” Embolden African Cardinals-Cardinal Czerny’s comments are likely to embolden African cardinals who have never welcomed such animosity to their traditional stances on moral issues, especially when it comes to homosexuality. This became clear during the furor over Fiducia Supplicans, the 2023 declaration allowing non-liturgical blessings of same-sex couples, when Africa’s Catholic bishops rejected the Vatican document. It was also readily apparent in 2014, when, in the context of homosexuality being a taboo in Africa, German Cardinal Walter Kasper caused uproar and provoked accusations of racism when he said (and then falsely denied) that Africans should not tell the Church in the West “too much what to do” regarding homosexuality and other such issues currently acceptable in secular Western culture.Dominican Father Anthony Alaba Akinwale, deputy vice chancellor at Augustine University in Ilara-Epe, Nigeria, acknowledged that “some persons will not feel comfortable about a pope from Africa,” despite the fact that the Church is flourishing there and is “a thing of joy.” Noting that “some people hold the heretical view that nothing good can come out of Africa,” he told the Register that he was not concerned about having an “African pope” but, rather, given current ecclesial and global concerns, he hoped and prayed that the College of Cardinals would elect “a wise, holy and most suitable successor of Peter.” “That successor may come from any continent,” Father Akinwale said. “Like Peter in the First Reading last Sunday, he must have the courage to stand before the Sanhedrin of today and boldly declare the truth of the Gospel even when it is neither popular nor ideologically convenient to do so.”Register senior editor Jonathan Liedl contributed to this story.
