Analysis-Two years after October 7, Israel rediscovers the scale, and limits, of its power-Jerusalem has chalked up impressive military achievements since the horrific Hamas invasion, but it needs sober strategy to take advantage of potential opportunities in this fast-changing region-By Lazar Berman-Today, 9:38 am-OCT 8,25

Two years into its longest war, Israel can point to a long list of achievements that have dramatically improved its security after the unconscionable lapses, with their devastating consequences, before and on the morning of October 7, 2023.Iran’s armed proxy network, once dug in on Israel’s borders with increasingly sophisticated weapons, has largely become a deterred, neutered axis.Hezbollah, until last year the world’s most powerful terrorist army, saw its leadership repeatedly decapitated by Israeli airstrikes once Jerusalem finally decided to invade southern Lebanon in late 2024. Its forces in disarray and unable to contest IDF ground maneuvers across its entire front with Israel, Hezbollah agreed to humiliating ceasefire terms that amount to a clear defeat.Without Hezbollah troops available to prop him up, and with Israeli jets blocking Iran from sending reinforcements, Syria’s Bashar al-Assad fell last December. Tehran’s land bridge to Israel’s borders dissipated overnight.Iran itself was caught up in its own worst nightmare seven months later. An Israeli surprise attack badly damaged key nuclear sites and took out its military leadership. On day one of Israel’s June operation, Iran lost the chief of staff of its armed forces and the commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the military’s central headquarters, the IRGC Aerospace Force and the IRGC air defenses. More would fall in subsequent days.To make matters worse for the regime, US President Donald Trump ordered his own B-2 bombers in, turning the operation into a joint US-Israeli campaign that Tehran was powerless to stop.Though Israeli agents were operating in large numbers right under its nose, and Israeli and US planes were crisscrossing its skies, Iran managed to kill exactly zero active duty enemy soldiers or intelligence officials (though it executed 5 people it says were Mossad agents).Hamas, of course, is nothing close to what it was when it poured into Israeli bases and border communities, massacring 1,200 people and abducting 251, on October 7, 2023. It is still doggedly hanging on in Gaza, but it is in no position to seriously threaten Israel and finds itself with less and less room for maneuver every week that goes by.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and then-US president Joe Biden’s administration became increasingly at odds, as Biden’s direct control over policy waned. In contrast, despite firm pressure and public criticism from the president over the Iran war and hostage negotiations, Netanyahu has maintained a highly productive relationship with Trump, marked by four visits to the White House in just nine months. Netanyahu has repeatedly argued that “Israel has never been as strong as it is now,” and that the alliance with the US is at dizzying heights. On Tuesday’s anniversary of October 7, he struck a similarly triumphant tone: “Whoever raises a hand against us receives unprecedented crushing blows. Together we have broken the Iranian axis, together we have changed the face of the Middle East, together we will guarantee the eternity of Israel.”The edge of power-No one would deny that Netanyahu has directed Israel to a series of important successes in the two years since his biggest failure. At the same time, in every theater where Israel has logged key achievements — from Tehran to Lebanon, from Syria to the halls of power in Washington — it finds itself staring at the sobering limits of its power. In Lebanon, Hezbollah is bruised, but no one believes that the Lebanese Armed Forces are actually going to disarm the far more powerful Shiite militia. The threat is minimized, but will evolve in the coming years.Israel hammers the Houthis in Yemen periodically in impressive long-range air raids, but there are no indications they’re looking to throw in the towel.Israel might have gotten the better of Iran, but at every turn, it needed the help of others. In the two Iranian missile and drone attacks in 2024, Western and Arab countries banded together with Israel to intercept most of the incoming projectiles. And in June, it was the American 30,000-pound GBU-57 bunker busters that did the key damage to Iran’s nuclear sites at Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan at the end of the campaign.Even more emphatically, when Israeli jets sped toward Iran to deliver a punishing blow “in the heart of Tehran” in response to an Iranian violation of the fledgling ceasefire, Trump forced Netanyahu to limit the attack to a symbolic strike against a radar station.Across the region, a new axis is starting to take shape as Iran’s recedes. The Ahmad al-Sharaa government in Syria has no illusions about taking on Israel, and has been working for a new security agreement with Jerusalem. But it is backed by a powerful Turkey, which seeks to assert itself as Israel’s leading critic on the world stage.Qatar, an ideological ally of Turkey, is the other pillar of the emerging Sunni Islamist bloc. And what makes this axis so problematic over the long term is not that it is creating terrorist armies across the region, as Iran did. It is that both Turkey and Qatar enjoy close ties and enthusiastic support from Washington, drastically limiting Israel’s options if it decides to counter their designs. In Gaza, too, Israel’s pursuit of the prime minister’s “total victory” has run up against countless friction points. Netanyahu paused and altered the military campaign against Hamas in the face of US and international pressure. Even two years after it carried out the worst slaughter of Jews since the Holocaust, Hamas is still functional and fighting, and Israel has fully achieved none of its war aims — 48 hostages are still held in Gaza, Hamas is not destroyed, and the prevention of any future threat from the enclave has not been guaranteed. Its best chance of achieving them, in fact, may lie via a Trump plan that the president has, at least in some measure, had to impose on the prime minister. No magic bullet, or bomb-Israel’s founding fathers recognized the limits of the young country’s power. As David Ben-Gurion crafted Israel’s national security doctrine in the 1950s, he rooted it in the assumption that Israel would never be able to permanently solve its security challenges on the battlefield. It could only hope to repeatedly defeat its Arab foes, buy periods of quiet, and eventually convince them to make peace deals with the Jewish state. No Israeli military victory alone has proven to be the magic bullet for recasting the strategic environment. The victory in the 1967 Six-Day War was overwhelming, but the same neighboring foes were firing away at Israel only months later; launched a devastating onslaught on Yom Kippur 1973, and would continue to fight for years. The same goes for Israel’s campaigns against Palestinian terror groups. Operation Defensive Shield in 2002 went a long way in breaking the Second Intifada and drastically reducing suicide bombings, but Palestinian terrorism persisted and continued to evolve, culminating two years ago in the single deadliest day for Israel and Jews since the Holocaust.Since beginning its fight back after October 7, however, Israel under Netanyahu seems to believe that it can determine what happens over its hostile borders, and in some instances, well beyond them.It has created a “manic-depressive” policy, according to military theorist Eran Ortal. This manic Israel, posits Ortal, believes its military might can bomb its way to the reality it wants. This was on full display on September 9, when Israel attacked Hamas leaders in Doha — breaching the sovereignty of the US-allied Qatar, and failing to kill its targets.Israel’s regional partners have been alarmed by its behavior.“The post-Oct. 7 military campaigns — spanning Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and culminating in Israel’s historic direct strike on Iran — have led many Gulf officials to conclude that Israel no longer seeks mere deterrence, but rather dominance,” wrote Emirati researcher Mohammed Baharoon and the Middle East Institute’s Alex Vatanka two months ago.“The Iranian threat has been greatly diminished while Israel presents a new challenge of its own to regional stability, raising fundamental questions about the accords,” they stated.Alongside the Israel that places too much stock in its ability to influence the region through military operations, there is the Israel that believes the world is against it.There is no question that antisemitism, progressivism and Islamism are coming together to create a dangerous wave of hostility to Israel across the world, one that pushed even allied leaders to recognize a Palestinian state and support sanctions against the Jewish state. But Israel is doing itself no favors. It let soldiers post all sorts of footage online that began to badly undermine its legitimacy soon after October 7. Desperate for friends, Israel finds itself repeatedly alienating its largest base of supporters, Christian Zionists. It opened itself to a predictably effective demonization campaign by halting aid supplies to Gaza between March and May, arguing that there was sufficient food in Gaza before subsequently acknowledging that not all Gazans had access to it.And Netanyahu refuses to rein in his far-right coalition partners, Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, who are doing everything they can to convince the world that Israel’s eminently justified war to free the hostages and topple Hamas is actually a strategic campaign for the expulsion of Gazans and the resettlement of the Strip. The use of tactical brilliance-A common trope about Israel is that it is tactically brilliant while strategically inept. That might be overstating the case, but there are certainly limits to how much Israel can influence its surroundings even when at the height of its tactical excellence, as it has been for much of the past two years.Indeed, to a significant extent, those same limits led to the failures of October 7. Israel wanted Hamas to be weakened and deterred by periodic air campaigns, and bought off by economic incentives, and Jerusalem convinced itself and acted as though that was the case.Of course, it wasn’t Israel’s decision whether or not Hamas was deterred, as it found out so painfully.Israel is undoubtedly a regional military and intelligence powerhouse and has carried out effective military operations to significantly reduce the threats it faces. The country is more secure today than it was on October 6, 2023.At the same time, it cannot create a Middle East free of threats, nor can it achieve security through military means alone. Strategy would be an easy craft if tactical excellence translated easily into national security. Unfortunately, that is not the case.Seeking a magic fix — the airstrike or raid that proves the tipping point — is an understandable urge, but it is illusory.Israel has achieved multiple tactical military successes in its fight back over the past two years. But if it is to take advantage of the opportunities it has created, it will need to employ all the tools at its potential disposal — military, diplomatic (including public advocacy), political and economic — make the fullest use of them, and begin with sober strategic planning.

October 7 anniversary'Never again will mean never again'‘We will rise’: Grief, defiance and hope as 30,000 gather in Tel Aviv two years after Oct. 7-At the nation’s largest memorial since Hamas’s attack, bereaved families and survivors honor those lost in the war and call for the release of the 48 hostages still held in Gaza-By Stav Levaton-and Jessica Steinberg.

Emotions ran high in Tel Aviv on Tuesday night as Israel marked two years since Hamas’s devastating October 7, 2023, onslaught on southern Israel. Some 30,000 people filled Yarkon Park for what became the nation’s largest memorial ceremony for the deadliest day in Israeli history. The event, organized by Kumu (“Rise Up”) — a movement founded by survivors of that day and families of victims and hostages — stood in place of an official state ceremony. The government has opted instead to recognize a national day of remembrance corresponding to the Hebrew anniversary of Hamas’s attack. Since it happened on the Jewish holiday of Simhat Torah, and the following day is a transition day known as Isru Chag, the annual remembrance day is marked two days after the actual Hebrew anniversary, on the 24th of the month of Tishrei, which falls this year on Thursday, October 16.Last year, the government organized its own commemoration on October 7, which competed with the memorial organized by the survivors and families. Led by Likud minister and close Netanyahu ally Miri Regev, it drew sharp criticism from bereaved families who accused it of being politicized.Broadcast live on most of Israel’s main TV channels, but not by the right-wing Channel 14, Tuesday’s memorial was mostly solemn, but did feature some comments attacking the government.“October 7 is not only a day of remembrance for those we lost,” Kumu founder Yonatan Shamriz, brother of hostage Alon Shamriz, who was mistakenly killed by the IDF after escaping his Gazan captors, told the crowd. “It is a day of remembrance for negligence, for failed leadership, and for the abandonment of responsibility. On that day, a new commitment was born: To lead the State of Israel to a better reality — a far better one.”Shamriz said that as he was hiding in a safe room on October 7, “I made myself a promise: We will rise.”“Our generation — which inherited a country bleeding, isolated, fractured, and in pain — will be the one to fix it,” he said. “It will be the best version of Israel, one that sanctifies the lives of its residents, that is built on truth, accountability and mutual responsibility… We will bring back life. We will bring back hope. We have risen. The people of Israel have risen.”Attendees donned “Bring Them Home” T-shirts, yellow ribbon pins and dog tags calling for the release of the hostages, as they collectively reflected upon two years of war. Some held posters and flags with faces of lost loved ones. There was not a dry eye in sight. At the heart of the stage stood a burned car — one of many destroyed by Hamas terrorists along the Gaza border — surrounded by red crown anemones, Israel’s national flower and a symbol of remembrance. Nearby, a bullet-riddled bomb shelter served as a stark reminder of the brutality of that day. Hanging beside the stage were 48 yellow chairs, each representing a hostage still held in Gaza — a haunting visual of a war yet unfinished. The ceremony opened with a moment of silence for those killed on October 7 and in the ensuing war, followed by a moving duet by Yuval Raphael, Israel’s 2025 Eurovision representative and a survivor of the Nova music festival, and Daniel Weiss, a Kibbutz Be’eri survivor whose parents were murdered by Hamas terrorists.Pop star Eden Hason later took the stage to perform Hanan Ben Ari’s “What Do You Want From Me” — a ballad questioning God’s purpose in human suffering — as the names of the October 7 victims illuminated the screen behind him.Throughout the night, pre-recorded testimonies from survivors and bereaved families played on large screens. In one, several fathers who lost their children on October 7 read aloud the lyrics to singer Mooki’s “Daddy’s Boy” — lines like “Father is always here to hug and protect you” and “My child, go only on your own path” — drawing tears from the crowd.Event organizers also turned attention to the mental health toll of the war. Hani Liderman-Pibenev, widow of First Sgt. Igor Pibenev — a police officer who killed more than a dozen Hamas terrorists on October 7 before taking his own life in May 2025 — recounted the moment she and her daughters found his body at home, and the anger and grief that followed.Mazi Eilon, widow of Tal Eilon, Kibbutz Kfar Aza’s security coordinator who was killed defending his community, shared her story as a recording of her husband’s final radio calls played to the audience — his voice urging his team to fight back against the infiltrating terrorists. As the evening unfolded, calls for the release of the remaining 48 hostages — including 47 abducted on October 7 and the body of a soldier killed in 2014 — reverberated throughout the park.“We are still on the journey — with 48 hostages who have not yet returned, and families who wait, breathe and pray for that moment,” released hostage Omer Shem Tov told the crowd. He went on to express gratitude for those who sacrificed their lives fighting back or rescuing others on October 7, naming Ori Danino, who fled the Nova music festival but returned to save others — including Shem Tov, and Maya and Itay Regev — before being taken hostage and later murdered in captivity.“For two long years, 48 innocent souls have been held captive by Hamas,” Israeli singer Eden Golan said in English, addressing international audiences watching the livestreamed event.“Please, stand with us. Raise your voices, help us tell the world: They are coming home,” she urged, before performing a powerful rendition of “I’m Coming Home.”As her final notes faded, the crowd erupted into chants of “Everyone, now.”Their appeal came as ceasefire and hostage-exchange negotiations — mediated by the United States, Egypt and Qatar — were underway in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh, with the Prime Minister’s Office telling The Times of Israel that progress has been made in the talks. Some speakers, like Galit Dan — whose 13-year-old daughter Noya Dan and mother Carmela Dan were killed in Kibbutz Nir Oz — spoke of finding strength in rebuilding.“We do not seek revenge, we seek healing,” she said to cheers from the crowd. “We want to defeat fear and find hope. To overcome hatred and reconnect to our humanity. To overcome rage and reconnect to compassion. To awaken once more the values that my grandparents came here for.”“Our generation will take off its uniforms, shake the ashes of the burned houses from its shoulders, and wash away the failures left to us by those before us,” added Shimri. “We will ensure that a state commission of inquiry is established — so that truly, never again will mean never again.”The government hasn’t formed any form of inquiry into the failures surrounding the Hamas onslaught, and it opposes a state commission of inquiry, claiming it would be politically biased against it, even though polls have consistently shown a large majority of the public supports such a commission.

Global leaders mark ‘nightmare’ of Oct. 7 as antisemitism surges in their countries-While most leaders’ statements focus on condemning Hamas and antisemitism, Spain uses anniversary of the atrocities to slam Israel and accuse it of ‘genocide’ in ongoing Gaza war-By Agencies, Jacob Magid-and ToI Staff 7 October 2025, 8:55 pm

Leaders from around the world on Tuesday issued statements marking two years since the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack on southern Israel, which sparked the ongoing war in Gaza. While most leaders’ statements sharply condemned Hamas, the brutal violence of the onslaught and the rise in global antisemitism in the two years since, several prominent politicians used the anniversary of the attacks to slam Israel and criticize its conduct in the subsequent war.Early Tuesday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the two years since the attacks have been a “living nightmare” for many.“Today we mark two years since the horrifying attacks on Israel by Hamas terrorists on October 7th, 2023…. The worst attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust,” Starmer said in a statement.“Since that awful day, so many have endured a living nightmare,” he said, vowing to continue efforts to bring home British hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.Starmer noted the period has seen surging antisemitism in the UK, days after two Jewish men were killed in a terror attack against a Manchester synagogue.“Jewish communities have also endured rising antisemitism on our streets,” he said, including the deadly car-ramming and stabbing attack last Thursday in Manchester, which took place on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.“This is a stain on who we are, and this country will always stand tall and united against those who wish harm and hatred upon Jewish communities,” said the British leader.‘We do not forget’ French President Emmanuel Macron took to social media to mark the anniversary of the Hamas-led attacks, with a statement he shared in French, English, and Hebrew: “October 7. Two years after the unspeakable horror of the Hamas terrorism, the pain remains raw,” he wrote. “We do not forget.”“We think of all the victims, including 51 of our compatriots,” he continued. We think of the 48 hostages still held by Hamas. We work tirelessly for their return.”“I reiterate France’s call: the hostages must be freed and the ceasefire must take place without delay,” Macron said.“We share the grief of the bereaved families as well as the anguish of those who are still waiting,” he added. “Such an abomination must never happen again. Let us unite all our forces to fight antisemitism everywhere and build peace.”In a video statement, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that the attacks “inflicted deep wounds,” and October 7 has “gone down as a black day in the history of the Jewish people.”“Hamas attacked Israel in a barbaric manner,” he said. “Well over a thousand citizens of Israel lost their lives.”“The terrorists abducted 250 people as hostages,” he continued, adding that they included some German nationals. “They have suffered unimaginably.”Merz also said that in the two years since the attacks, “we have seen a new wave of antisemitism in Germany.”“This fills me with shame as Federal Chancellor, as a German, and as a member of the post-war generation that grew up with the promise: Never Again,” he said.“Let’s stand with the Jewish people of our country,” he said. “Today, on the two-year mark of Hamas’ brutal attack on Israel, and on each and every other day.”EU Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen also paid tribute to the victims of the October 7 massacre and expressed hope for a lasting peace in the region.“We will never forget the horror of the Hamas attacks on 7 October and the pain they caused to innocent victims, their families and the entire people of Israel, two years ago,” she said in a statement.“We honor their memory by working tirelessly for peace. The immediate release of all hostages and a ceasefire are now within reach… This moment must be seized to pave the way for a lasting peace in the region, based on the two-state solution,” she said.Israeli response to Oct. 7 ‘beyond any principle of proportionality’Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said: “Two years have passed since the ignominy of the massacre carried out by Hamas terrorists against thousands of defenseless and innocent Israeli civilians, including women and children. Unspeakable crimes that make October 7 one of the darkest pages in history.”“Hamas’s violence has triggered an unprecedented crisis in the Middle East. Israel’s military response has gone beyond any principle of proportionality, claiming too many innocent lives among Gaza’s civilian population,” she added.“We all have a duty to do everything within our power to ensure that this precious and fragile opportunity — the peace plan presented by [US] President [Donald] Trump — succeeds,” she wrote.Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis wrote on X: “Today we pause to honor the victims of terror. We stand firmly against hatred and violence. As talks advance under the @POTUS plan, we urge all parties to act with courage and restraint: toward a lasting ceasefire, release of all hostages and a future of peace and security for all.”Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson lamented that since October 7, “Jews in Sweden have testified that they feel unsafe in their own country.”“My message is: There is no place for antisemitism in Sweden,” he wrote.“Jews in Sweden should be able to proudly wear the Star of David, visit the synagogue, and leave their children in Jewish schools. All Swedish Jews should know that we stand behind you.”Rubio and Vance condemn attacks, express hope for peace-Also marking the two-year anniversary of the attacks on Israel, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio sayid Washington “reaffirms its unwavering support for Israel’s right to exist, to defend itself, and to ensure the safety of its people.”“As the United States marks this tragic anniversary and honors the victims, we renew our resolve to prevent such evil from ever taking place again,” Rubio said. The top US diplomat highlighted the two US citizens — Omer Neutra and Itay Chen — who are among the 48 hostages still being held in Gaza and touted US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza and advance “generational” peace in the region.“Since October 7, 2023, we have also witnessed a troubling surge in antisemitism threatening Jewish communities worldwide,” Rubio noted.“As I have said, there can be no compromise with antisemitism. We continue to condemn all acts of terrorism and antisemitism against Israel, and we call on the international community to stand with Israel during this painful anniversary,” he added.“On this second anniversary of the terrible terrorist attacks of October 7, we remember all of the innocent people brutally murdered by Hamas,” US Vice President JD Vance tweeted.“And we continue to work towards President [Donald] Trump’s plan to bring the remaining hostages home and build a lasting peace for all,” he said. While Trump himself did not release a statement about the anniversary of October 7, he told hostage families that he’s praying Gaza war will end soon “or else,” in a letter published Tuesday, which thanked the Hostages and Missing Families Forum for nominating him for a Nobel Peace Prize. Since the October 7, 2023, massacre, Trump said he has “been resolved to returning all the hostages home, and ensuring the total destruction of Hamas so these horrific acts may never be repeated.”“These unspeakable scenes have been seared into our memories, and we will never forget,” he added.“Please know that we remain steadfastly committed to seeing an end both to this conflict and the waves of antisemitism, both at home and abroad,” the letter read.He continued: “May god bless you and your loved ones, and may He continue to bless the United States of America and the State of Israel, as we pray that this conflict will be at an end in the coming days — or else.”Mamdani and Spanish PM condemn Israel-The Democratic Party’s New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani used the second anniversary of the October 7 attacks to accuse Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of launching a “genocidal war.”Mamdani called Hamas’s October 7 assault “a horrific war crime,” adding, “I mourn these lives and pray for the safe return of every hostage still held and for every family whose lives were torn apart by these atrocities.”“In the aftermath of that day, Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Israeli government launched a genocidal war: a death toll that now far exceeds 67,000; with the Israeli military bombing homes, hospitals, and schools into rubble,” his statement read, using the unverified death toll provided by the Hamas-run health ministry, which does not distinguish between civilians and combatants.Mamdani called for the “occupation and apartheid” to end, adding that, “Peace must be pursued through diplomacy, not war crimes, and our government must act to end these atrocities and hold those responsible to account.”Also using the anniversary as an opportunity to slam Israel, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez condemned “terrorism in all its forms” in his statement, and urged an end to “the genocide” in Gaza.Sanchez, one of the most vocal critics in Europe of Israel’s war in Gaza, decried the “terrible attacks” carried out by Hamas.“It is a day to reiterate our strong condemnation of terrorism in all its forms, to call for the immediate release of the Israeli hostages,” the Spanish leader wrote on X.“And to demand that Netanyahu stop the genocide of the Palestinian people and open a humanitarian corridor,” he added.Sanchez also declared that the two-state solution was the “only possible” way to end the decades-old Israel-Palestinian conflict.

Italy’s PM says ICC case filed against her for alleged complicity in Gaza ‘genocide’‘I don’t believe there is another case like this in the world or in history,’ Giorgia Meloni says, adds Rome has not authorized new arms supplies to Israel since Oct. 7 attack-By Reuters and ToI Staff Today, 12:01 am-OCT 8,25

ROME (Reuters) — Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Tuesday that she and two of her ministers had been reported to the International Criminal Court for alleged “complicity in genocide” in connection with Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza.Speaking in an interview with state television broadcaster RAI, Meloni said Defense Minister Guido Crosetto and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani had been denounced, and “I think” also Roberto Cingolani, the head of defense group Leonardo.“I don’t believe there is another case like this in the world or in history,” Meloni said. She did not elaborate on who had brought the case against her and her ministers.Italy has seen a string of demonstrations over the last week, bringing hundreds of thousands of people onto the streets to protest against Israel over the war in Gaza, with many protesters also taking aim at Meloni. Her right-wing government, generally a staunch supporter of Israel, has distanced itself recently from what it calls its “disproportionate” offensive against Hamas, but has not severed any commercial or diplomatic links, or recognized Palestinian statehood as other Western countries have done.Meloni said she was “amazed” by the accusation of complicity in genocide because “anyone who knows the situation is aware that Italy has not authorized new, let’s say, arms supplies to Israel after October 7.”In response to her remarks, a Leonardo spokesperson said Cingolani had already expressed the company’s position in an interview with the daily Corriere della Sera last month when he said the suggestion that it was complicit in genocide was “a very serious frame-up.”Israel vehemently denies accusations of genocide, says it seeks to minimize civilian fatalities, and stresses that Hamas uses Gaza’s civilians as human shields, fighting from civilian areas including homes, hospitals, schools, and mosques.

IAEA says no danger after drone hits Russian nuclear plant.

Vienna, Oct 7 (AFP) Oct 07, 2025-The UN nuclear watchdog said on Tuesday that there was "no impact on nuclear safety" after a drone hit the cooling tower of a Russian nuclear plant.Russia's nuclear power operator Rosenergoatom said on Telegram that a "Ukrainian armed forces combat drone attempted to attack a cooling tower at the Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant" in central Russia in the night from Monday to Tuesday. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it was informed by Russia that a drone hit the site. There was "no impact on nuclear safety and no change in radiation levels" there, the IAEA said on X.Agency head Rafael Grossi "reiterates that NPPs (nuclear power plants) must never be attacked," the post added.Rosenergoatom said the drone "was suppressed by technical means" near the plant, causing it to detonate after colliding with the cooling tower."There were no damages or injuries," the operator said, adding the incident did not affect the plant's operations."This is another act of aggression by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against Russian nuclear power plants," Rosenergoatom added. There was no immediate comment from Ukraine.Kyiv has been ramping up retaliatory strikes on Russia's energy and oil infrastructure, in what it sees as a legitimate response to Moscow's offensive and its daily attacks on Ukrainian cities, which have at times left millions without heating and power. Both Moscow and Kyiv have accused each other of attacking nuclear sites throughout the three-and-a-half year war, prompting fears of a nuclear incident.Ukraine's southern Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, which Russian forces captured shortly after invading in 2022, has been disconnected from the power grid for two weeks. It now relies on backup electricity generators to maintain cooling and other safety systems.

Witkoff and Kushner join Gaza talks as Hamas says hostage and prisoner lists exchanged-The release of the remaining Israeli hostages held in Gaza and of 1,950 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are key parts of Trump's 20-point peace proposal.Oct. 8, 2025, 5:08 AM EDT / Updated Oct. 8, 2025, 5:32 AM EDT-By Freddie Clayton

President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner will join Gaza ceasefire talks in Egypt on Wednesday, as Hamas said the two sides had taken an initial step toward a key point of the U.S. plan to end the devastating war.The arrival of the U.S. delegation, as well as the leader of mediator Qatar, comes after a second day of indirect talks as Israel and Palestinians mourned the two-year anniversary of the October 7 attacks and the brutal conflict that has followed.Hamas released a statement Wednesday saying that a list of Palestinian prisoners who would be released under a deal had been provided to Israel."The mediators are making great efforts to remove any obstacles to implementing the ceasefire, and a spirit of optimism prevails among all," the militant group said. The release of the remaining hostages held in Gaza and of 1,950 Palestinian prisoners are key parts of Trump's 20-peace proposal.Israel has not yet commented on the Hamas statement.Top Hamas leader Khalil Al-Hayya said Tuesday that the group had come “to engage in serious and responsible negotiations.”Hamas was ready to reach a deal, but needed a “guarantee” to end the war and ensure “it is not repeated,” he told Egyptian state-affiliated Al Qahera News TV.Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not comment on the status of the talks, but told Israelis Tuesday they were in “fateful days of decision.”Trump expressed optimism about the talks, telling reporters in Washington there was “a possibility that we could have peace in the Middle East.”Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed Abdulrahman Al Thani is also set to join the talks, which are taking place in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.Qatar wants international guarantees, led by the U.S., that what is negotiated in Egypt will lead to Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza, the entry of more aid, and a permanent end to the war, foreign ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari told Saudi Arabian news channel al-Hadath on Tuesday.Israel has continued its assault on Gaza while the talks have been taking place. Its military campaign has killed more than 67,000 people, reducing much of the enclave to rubble following the October 7, 2023 attacks by Hamas, in which some 1,200 people were killed and 251 taken to Gaza as hostages. There were somber gatherings across Israel on Tuesday to mark the attacks, including in the country’s south where families and friends paid respects to the more than 370 victims killed at the Nova music festival.Palestinians, meanwhile, reflected on two years of brutal conflict and their hopes for an end to the devastation.Alaa Abu Daraz and her children left their home in eastern Gaza on October 7, and two years later they are yet to return, living on the streets as they seek safety.“Our children are left in the streets, with no tent, no shelter, not even a blanket,” she told NBC News this week. “We managed through the summer and survived the heat, but the winter is unbearable; one cannot live or do anything in these conditions.”Israel has faced mounting global isolation over its assault.A new aid flotilla bound for Gaza that included a number of Americans was intercepted by the Israeli army Wednesday, days after the detention of activists on board a high-profile flotilla fueled international outrage.Eight U.S. citizens were "likely abducted" by Israeli forces while on international waters, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition said Wednesday.

Israel-Hamas begin indirect talks in Egypt, raising hopes of ceasefire and prisoner swap-Negotiators from Hamas, Israel and the United States began indirect talks in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh with President Donald Trump saying they were down to the “final details.”Oct. 6, 2025, 6:32 AM EDT / Updated Oct. 6, 2025, 4:37 PM EDT-By Alexander Smith.

Israel and Hamas began indirect peace talks Monday, with hopes it could represent the best chance yet to end the two-year war and free the remaining hostages from Gaza.Egypt’s state-owned Al-Qahera News television station reported that the talks began with a meeting between Arab mediators and the Hamas delegation. Mediators will then meet with the Israeli delegation, the station said.Egyptian and Qatari mediators will discuss the outcome of their meetings with both parties, before U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff joins the talks, it said."I really think we’re going to have a deal. We have a really good chance of making a deal, and it will be a lasting deal," President Donald Trump told reporters at a media gathering Monday.White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said at a briefing Monday that Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner were holding talks with "their respective parties from all sides.""The president wants to see a ceasefire. He wants to see the hostages released, and the technical teams are discussing that as we speak to ensure that the environment is perfect to release those hostages," Leavitt said. "They’re going over the lists of both the Israeli hostages and also the political prisoners who will be released. And those talks are underway, and the president is very much on the ball and is being apprised of this situation."On the anniversary eve of Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, terror attack, and subsequent military operation by Israel, representatives from all sides arrived in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to discuss a 20-point peace plan tabled by Trump to halt the conflict.Hamas' delegation is being led by senior official Khalil Al-Hayya, whom Israel tried to assassinate with a strike on Qatar last month.Al-Hayya, whom Israeli President Isaac Herzog described as a "murderous terrorist" in the wake of the Qatar strike, arrived in Egypt early Monday, Hamas said in a statement.Israel’s delegation will be led by Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, according to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office Sunday. The two sides have agreed on parts of Trump’s proposal.Witkoff and Kushner traveled to Egypt to help hammer out the deal’s remaining sticking points, a senior White House official told NBC News on Saturday.Trump called the talks "very successful, and proceeding rapidly," and said Monday’s meetings was just a case of technical teams clarifying "final details." He wrote in a social media post that "the first phase should be completed this week."Bishara Bahbah, a Palestinian American mediator, said in an interview that Hamas leaders were optimistic about the prospects of arriving at an agreement and feel specifically reassured by Trump's recent comments. They believe Trump is the only person who can pressure Netanyahu into a deal, Bahbah added.Bahbah said he believes Hamas is unlikely to walk away from the talks without a deal, though "Hamas wants assurances that the war has truly ended and there will be no going back to the war and no Israeli violations" of the agreement, he said.On Monday, the Hostages Families Forum Headquarters, a group that coordinates efforts for those still held in Gaza, sent an "urgent letter" to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, "strongly urging" the body to award the Nobel Peace Prize to the American president this week "for his unprecedented contributions to global peace."A senior Arab negotiator directly involved in the talks told NBC News on Monday, "A deal will happen if President Trump keeps pushing."Secretary of State Marco Rubio was cooler, telling NBC News’ "Meet the Press" on Sunday that finding a resolution would take "some time" and that "there’s some work that remains to be done."It came as Israel said it deported 171 activists, including the campaigner Greta Thunberg, who sailed toward Gaza on an aid flotilla. The detainees, whose vessels were boarded by Israeli military personnel, were deported to Greece and Slovakia, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement. The first phase of the talks will deal with the release of the remaining 48 hostages, some 20 of whom are believed to still be alive, in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held in Israel. The plan also calls for the end of fighting and the withdrawal of Israeli forces. Hamas agreed to some of this proposal Friday, while sidestepping Trump’s call for it to disband and disarm. On Sunday, Hamas leader Mahmoud Mardawi denied as baseless reports in Arab media that the group had agreed to lay down its weapons.Israel says it agrees with the plan, buoying the yearslong, impassioned domestic campaign by families and supporters of the hostages to cease fighting so they can be brought home.Ohad Ben Ami, 56, was released in February, having been kidnapped from kibbutz Be’eri, in southern Israel, and held captive for 491 days. On Sunday, he showed NBC News the place where he was taken on Oct. 7."When we were down there" in the deep Gaza tunnel where he was held, he said he was told "many times there was a deal in the air," he said. "We were very happy and on a high, then they say, 'no it’s collapsed' and we were very depressed."Still, Netanyahu faces pressure from his own government over negotiations. Far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said on X that stopping attacks on Gaza would be a “grave mistake."In Gaza, many Palestinians are desperate for an end to the bombardment that has killed more than 67,000 people, most of them women and children, according to the Health Ministry. Some 78% of buildings have either been damaged or destroyed. The prospect of an agreement has not stopped the Israeli attacks. Gaza’s Hamas-run Government Media Office said Sunday that Israel had carried out 131 airstrikes on Gaza over the past 48 hours, killing 94 Palestinians.Israel launched the offensive after Hamas’ Oct. 7 terror attack, in which some 1,200 were killed and another 250 kidnapped.Though freeing the hostages would be a “significant achievement and a fulfillment of a principal war objective,” IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir warned his troops to be ready.“The operation is not over; we must remain alert and ready for combat at all times,” he said in a statement Sunday. “If the political effort does not succeed, we will return to fight.”Reuters, Yarden Segev, Marc Smith, Richard Engel, Matt Bradley, Tara Prindiville and The Associated Press contributed.

Netanyahu hopes for hostage release in 'coming days' as bombs strike Gaza-U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner are traveling to Egypt to discuss the last details of a deal.'This is a big day': Trump responds to Hamas' agreeing to release hostages, pending conditions-Oct. 5, 2025, 5:01 AM EDT / By Freddie Clayton.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared Israel and Hamas are on the brink of a hostage deal as President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and his Middle East envoy traveled to the region for talks, raising hopes Sunday that the war in Gaza was on the verge of ending.Progress toward a ceasefire came after Hamas responded positively to Trump’s 20-point plan unveiled last week, pending conditions.Israeli attacks continued into Sunday, Gaza’s Civil Defense spokesman, Mahmoud Basal, told NBC News, despite Trump’s calls to end the strikes.Israel believes 20 of the 48 hostages remaining in Gaza are still alive. Under the plan proposed by Trump, Hamas would have three days to release them.Trump has given the militant group until 6 p.m. ET Sunday to accept, and he warned Hamas to move quickly, “or else all bets will be off.”“When Hamas confirms, the Ceasefire will be IMMEDIATELY effective,” he said on Truth Social.Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned Sunday on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” that ongoing negotiations between Hamas and Israel are not yet the end of the war and that setting up a group to govern Gaza would take “some time,” but he emphasized that there was a plan to do so.“You can’t set up a governance structure in Gaza that’s not Hamas in three days,” he said. But as negotiators converge on the Middle East this weekend, optimism that an end to the war is close has spread across the region on the week of its second anniversary.U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner are traveling to Egypt to hammer out a deal’s remaining sticking points, a senior White House official told NBC News on Saturday.Asked whether hostages could be released as early as this week, Rubio said, “We want it to be as soon as possible.”Netanyahu said Saturday he hoped to announce the return of the hostages during the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, which lasts from Monday to Oct. 13, and that he had also sent a team to Egypt to “finalize the technical details of the release of our hostages.”A deal is “not final yet,” he said.Trump’s plan demands that Hamas disarm and does not immediately order the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. Hamas did not mention disarmament in its response and has long stipulated a full Israeli withdrawal as part of any deal.Netanyahu said Israeli forces would “redeploy in such a way” that the Israel Defense Forces “will continue to hold all of the territories it controls deep inside the Strip” as part of the first stage of the plan.Trump posted a map on Truth Social Saturday that he said showed the initial withdrawal line that Israel has agreed to. The map shows Israel would maintain control of the majority of the strip.Hamas “will be disarmed” and Gaza demilitarized in the second phase of Trump’s plan, Netanyahu said, warning that it would happen either politically or militarily.Gaza’s Health Ministry said Saturday that the total death toll in the enclave had passed 67,000 after the addition of more than 700 people whose data had been verified.Israeli airstrikes killed 65 people and injured over 150 in the previous 24 hours, the Health Ministry said Sunday. Trump said Friday that Israel must “immediately stop the bombing of Gaza.”Dr. Muhammad Abu Salmiya, the director of Al-Shifa Hospital, said some were killed in ongoing strikes and others were shot as they tried to return to their homes in conflict areas or as they waited for aid.Tuesday is the second anniversary of the start of the Israel-Hamas war, which began on Oct. 7, 2023, with the Hamas-led terrorist attacks on Israel, in which 1,200 people were killed and 251 abducted. As the remaining hostages approach their third year in captivity, tens of thousands of demonstrators gathered in Tel Aviv on Saturday night awaiting news of a potential hostage deal.According to the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, an estimated 120,000 people attended. At Hostages Square, demonstrators unfurled a huge black banner reading, in white and red letters, “It’s now or never.”

Satellite images reveal extent of destruction in the Gaza Strip-Israeli bombing has damaged or destroyed an estimated 80% of Gaza’s structures since the war started two years ago.Oct. 7, 2025, 12:09 PM EDT-By Freddie Clayton and Max Butterworth.

New satellite imagery lays bare the sheer scale of the destruction in the Gaza Strip with two years of Israeli bombardment having turned much of the landscape into a wasteland. The images, sourced from the San Francisco-based imaging company Planet Labs PBC, show the Palestinian enclave from when the Israel-Hamas war began after the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack on Israel and from last month. An estimated 80% of Gaza’s structures have been damaged or destroyed in that time, according to the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees.Gaza City, where Israel launched its most recent offensive, has been turned into a colorless wasteland. Sports fields, parks and a reservoir have been all but wiped out.The international community has called on Israel to immediately halt its ground assault on the famine-stricken area, which has forced hundreds of thousands to flee.Al-Mawasi, once a green patch of land north of Rafah, has expanded into a crowded tent city housing hundreds of thousands of refugees in ever-shrinking spaces, but lacking basic infrastructure such as shelter, water and sewage systems. The farmlands that once dotted the landscape before the war began have been almost completely replaced by large, densely populated encampments in this designated “safe zone” that has frequently come under fire during the war.Rafah's population had swelled to an estimated 1.4 million people during the war, over half of Gaza's population. It has become virtually uninhabitable with its buildings crumbled and blackened. Mounds of concrete and bent metal remain. The images show thousands of homes turned to stony wreckage, green fields turned to dust, the veins of the city’s old roadways still visible.Israel launched its offensive in Gaza after the Oct. 7 Hamas-led attacks two years ago, when 1,200 people were killed and around 250 were taken hostage, marking a major escalation in a decadeslong conflict. In the two years of the Israeli military campaign since, Palestinian health officials say, more than 67,000 people have been killed in Gaza, including thousands of children.Matthew Mulligan and Jiachuan Wu contributed.

Attack victims memorialized at Columbia U, Brandenburg Gate-Anti-Israel protests held worldwide on second anniversary of Hamas massacre-Demonstrators in London chant ‘Israel is a terrorist state,’ reflecting shift of global sentiment as the Gaza war continues; pro-Hamas graffiti in Melbourne calls to ‘do it again’ By Agencies and ToI Staff 7 October 2025, 8:58 pm

Anti-Israel activists rallied worldwide on Tuesday, the second anniversary of Hamas’s October 7 rampage through southern Israel, which sparked the ongoing war in Gaza.Large rallies were held in Sydney, London, Paris, Geneva, Athens, Thessaloniki, Istanbul, Tokyo, Jakarta and Stockholm, among other cities. The protests reflect a shift in global sentiment, with sympathy that initially flowed to Israel after the October 7, 2023, attacks now increasingly directed toward Palestinians, leaving Israel more isolated on the world stage. In Turkey, a protest was expected outside an energy company over its exports to Israel. In Sweden, demonstrators were expected to welcome back participants of the intercepted Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla, including climate campaigner Greta Thunberg. In London, students from several universities were due to walk out of classes at 2:00 p.m. local time before marching through the center of the British capital.Protesters outside King’s College London waved Palestinian flags and shouted, “Israel is a terrorist state.” They were expected to march to other universities.Mark Etkind, a retiree in his early 60s from London, wore a sign around his neck saying he was the son of a Holocaust survivor and opposed what he called genocide in Gaza. He said a call by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer for students not to protest was “outrageous.”“I have always opposed genocide,” he told Reuters. “Of course, I support students here who are actively opposing genocide.”Emily Schrader, a 34-year-old Israeli public diplomacy activist who was visiting London, called the anti-Israel demonstration on October 7 “utterly disgraceful.”“I think that there are much better ways to support Palestinians than engaging in an activity like this that is so hurtful, so deeply offensive, and that emboldens radicalism and terrorism, whether on campus or on the ground in Israel,” she said.Rallies or events including vigils were also planned in other UK cities, including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Sheffield and Manchester, where two people were killed on Thursday when a terrorist attacked a synagogue on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish calendar.Organizers of pro-Palestinian protests say they are intended to spotlight the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and advocate for Palestinian rights. But politicians in several countries — particularly in Britain after the synagogue attack — said scheduling such protests on the anniversary of the Hamas attacks, the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust, could be seen as an endorsement of terrorism. In the northern Italian city of Bologna, authorities banned demonstrations, citing the risk of unrest after days of protests and clashes with police across Italy. And in the Netherlands, pro-Palestinian activists splashed red paint on Amsterdam’s Royal Palace in protest against a decision by the city mayor to ban an anti-Israel rally while permitting a pro-Israel event.Meanwhile, pro-Hamas graffiti appeared in at least two locations in Melbourne on the second anniversary of the Hamas attack.A billboard in the suburb of Fitzroy was defaced with the text, “Glory to Hamas,” while in the neighborhood of Westgarth, a wall is defaced with the text, “Oct 7 do it again.”Victoria’s Premier Jacinta Allan says it was “deeply wrong and offensive,” while Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese calls it “abhorrent,” the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reports.Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles tells ABC radio that he has “no doubt” the incident will be looked into as a terror offense. Also being held on Tuesday were vigils and some protests against antisemitism, which has spiked worldwide amid the Gaza war.In Germany, mourners gathered at Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate, placing stones and photos of victims in a solemn vigil echoing Jewish remembrance traditions, while events were held across Israel. In one mile-long memorial at Columbia University — a focal point of the anti-Israel student movement in the US last year — pro-Israel nonprofits DiploAct and Let’s Do Something set up 1,200 seats with the images of the victims of the onslaught.

China's premier to visit North Korea this week.

Beijing, Oct 7 (AFP) Oct 07, 2025-China's premier will pay an official visit to North Korea this week, Beijing said Tuesday, announcing the high-level diplomatic engagement to the isolated nuclear state.Despite periods of strained ties between China and North Korea over Pyongyang's nuclear programme, the neighbours have maintained a close relationship in recent years.Premier Li Qiang "will lead a party and government delegation to the DPRK... and pay an official goodwill visit from October 9 to 11", a foreign ministry spokesperson said in a statement, using an official acronym for North Korea.Li, China's highest-ranking leader after President Xi Jinping, will attend 80th anniversary celebrations for North Korea's ruling Workers' Party, the statement said.South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported last week that the North appears to be preparing for a large-scale military parade to mark the party's anniversary.During a meeting in Beijing late last month, China's top diplomat Wang Yi called on his North Korean counterpart to strengthen the partnership.Just weeks before, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un paid a rare visit to the capital city, where he stood alongside Xi at a parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.China is a vital source of diplomatic, economic and political support for North Korea.Pyongyang justifies its nuclear weapons by citing threats it claims to face from Washington and its allies, including South Korea.

On Trump's orders, 200 troops from Texas arrive in Illinois.

Washington, Oct 7 (AFP) Oct 07, 2025-Two hundred Texas National Guard troops have arrived in Illinois, a Pentagon official said Tuesday, ahead of a planned deployment in Chicago that is strongly opposed by local Democratic officials.US President Donald Trump has already sent troops onto the streets of Los Angeles and Washington, DC and has ordered them to Memphis as well as Chicago and Portland, threatening to invoke emergency powers to forward such efforts if the courts get in the way.Trump -- who suggested last week that American cities be used as "training grounds" for US military forces -- exaggerated the scale of unrest in Los Angeles and crime in Washington to justify those deployments, and a judge suggested he did the same when it comes to Portland. The troops from Texas were sent to Illinois as part of a mission to protect "federal functions, personnel, and property," the Pentagon official said on condition of anonymity, adding that the Guardsmen have been mobilized for an initial period of 60 days. The troops were seen on Tuesday at a military facility in Elwood, southwest of Chicago. The planned deployment of these forces has infuriated Democratic Governor JB Pritzker, who said they "should stay the hell out of Illinois," and that any deployment against his state government's wishes would amount to an "invasion."Trump over the weekend authorized the deployment of 700 National Guard troops to Chicago, sparking a lawsuit by Illinois state officials who accused him of using US troops "to punish his political enemies."- 'Untethered to the facts' -"The American people, regardless of where they reside, should not live under the threat of occupation by the United States military, particularly not simply because their city or state leadership has fallen out of a president's favor," the Illinois Attorney General and counsel for Chicago said. But Judge April Perry, an appointee of Trump's Democratic predecessor Joe Biden, declined to issue an immediate temporary restraining order, instead scheduling a full hearing for Thursday.Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has defended the plan to send troops to Chicago, claiming that the third-largest US city is "a war zone."Trump has similarly taken aim at Portland, which like Chicago has seen surges of federal agents as part of the president's mass deportation drive, prompting protests outside immigration processing facilities. Trump asserted that it is "war-ravaged" and riddled with violent crime. But in a Saturday court order temporarily blocking the deployment of troops to Oregon, US District Judge Karin Immergut wrote that "the President's determination was simply untethered to the facts."Protests in Portland did not pose a "danger of rebellion" and "regular law enforcement forces" could handle such incidents, the judge wrote.Trump responded to that setback by openly mulling the use of the Insurrection Act -- which allows the president to deploy the military within the United States to suppress rebellion -- in order to send more troops into Democratic-led US cities."We have an Insurrection Act for a reason," Trump said, adding that he would use it if "people were being killed and courts were holding us up or governors or mayors were holding us up."

Lockheed Martin Sikorsky unveils scalable Nomad drone family for autonomous long-range missions-The Nomad VTOL UAS family has a scalable design that allows the Nomad to be tailored to increase speed, range and payload capacity for a variety of missions.by Clarence Oxford.

Los Angeles CA (SPX) Oct 07, 2025-Less than a year after validating its rotor blown wing vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) uncrewed aircraft in flight tests, Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company (NYSE: LMT), has introduced the Nomad family of long-endurance, runway-independent drones. The twin proprotor system merges helicopter-style agility with fixed-wing speed and range. Each Nomad platform can lift off vertically, hover, transition to forward flight, and cruise efficiently on its wings for extended missions. Operated by Sikorsky's MATRIX autonomy software, the aircraft feature hybrid-electric propulsion on smaller variants and conventional drivetrains for larger ones."We use the term 'family' to point to a key attribute of the design; its ability to be scaled in size from a small Group 3 UAS to the footprint equivalent of a Black Hawk helicopter," said Rich Benton, Sikorsky vice president and general manager. "The resulting Nomad family of drones will be adaptable, go-anywhere, runway independent aircraft capable of land and sea-based missions across defense, national security, forestry and civilian organizations. Nomads are a force multiplier, complementing the missions of aircraft such as the Black Hawk to retain the strategic advantage in the Indo-Pacific and across broader regions."Following successful testing of the 10.3-ft wingspan Nomad 50 prototype earlier this year, Sikorsky is now developing the Nomad 100 - a Group 3, 18-ft wingspan model expected to achieve its first flight in the coming months.Designed for reconnaissance, light attack, and contested logistics, the Nomad series can be scaled from Group 3 (56 to 1,320 pounds) through Group 4/5 (above 1,320 pounds). MATRIX technology, originally developed with DARPA, supports integration with other rotary and fixed-wing systems and has been proven in firefighting, resupply, and advanced air mobility applications."Nomad represents new breakthroughs for Sikorsky and the next generation of autonomous, long-endurance drones," said Dan Shidler, director of Advanced Programs. "We are acting on feedback from the Pentagon, adopting a rapid approach and creating a family of drones that can take off and land virtually anywhere and execute the mission - all autonomously and in the hands of Soldiers, Marines, Sailors and Airmen."

Latest Gaza flotilla intercepted by Navy, 150 activists set to be deported-Naval commandos rappel onto large passenger ship, board 8 other sail boats in Mediterranean; Israel says ‘futile attempt’ to breach blockade on Strip ‘ended in nothing’By Emanuel Fabian-Today, 10:39 am-OCT 8,25

The Israeli Navy early Wednesday intercepted a new flotilla attempting to break its maritime blockade on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, detaining some 150 activists who were being brought to Israel for deportation. The incident came a week after the Navy intercepted 42 vessels that formed the Global Sumud Flotilla, the largest to challenge the Gaza blockade to date. Israel has deported the vast majority of the 479 activists who took part in that armada, including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.Israel’s Foreign Ministry said Wednesday morning that the new flotilla that attempted to break the maritime blockade on Gaza was prevented from realizing its goal, with its vessels and passengers intercepted and taken to Ashdod Port.“Another futile attempt to breach the legal naval blockade and enter a combat zone ended in nothing,” said the Foreign Ministry on X. “The vessels and the passengers are transferred to an Israeli port. All the passengers are safe and in good health. The passengers are expected to be deported promptly.”The Navy’s interception of the flotilla came after organizers rejected calls to transfer the small amount of symbolic aid they had been carrying with them to Israel or international organizations to be taken to the Strip and distributed. The nine-boat flotilla organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, said to include about 100 activists on one of the boats and around 50 others on the other eight ships, set sail from Italy some two weeks ago.The interception took place in the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday, in the Mediterranean Sea, around 150 nautical miles off the Gaza coast. Within 40 minutes, forces of the Shayetet 13 naval commando unit and other Navy forces took control of the nine vessels, including one named Conscience, a 68-meter-long passenger ship.Because of the size of the Conscience, the naval commandos rappelled from an Israeli Air Force helicopter onto the ship’s deck. The other eight sailboats were boarded by naval commandos from Navy vessels. The organizers of the Conscience said in the early morning that “Our vessel is currently being attacked by an Israeli military helicopter while the eight sailboats are being illegally intercepted and hijacked.”The FFC said “participants — humanitarians, doctors and journalists from across the world — have been taken against their will and are being held in unknown conditions.”“The Israeli military has no legal jurisdiction over international waters,” it said. “Our flotilla poses no harm.”The ships carried aid worth more than $110,000 in medicines, respiratory equipment, and nutritional supplies intended for Gaza’s hospitals, the FCC claimed on its Instagram account.Footage published by the activists showed Israeli Navy forces boarding the vessels. All nine ships with the 150 activists were being taken to Ashdod Port by the Navy, where they will be processed by police and immigration authorities before being deported. In addition to last week’s flotilla, Israel blocked similar attempts in June and July, amid spiking international anger at Israel over the hunger crisis in the Strip. Israeli officials have denounced the flotilla missions as pro-Hamas stunts. The Global Sumud Flotilla’s 42 ships were carrying only around two tons of aid, according to the Foreign Ministry. “This amounts to less than one-tenth of a single aid truck,” it said. Around 300 aid trucks enter Gaza daily.Israel and Egypt have imposed varying degrees of blockade on Gaza since the Hamas terror group seized power from rival Palestinian forces in 2007 in a violent coup.Israel said it was necessary to limit Hamas’s ability to smuggle in arms. Critics of the blockade said it amounted to collective punishment of Gaza’s roughly 2 million Palestinians.Israel has come under huge international pressure over its war in Gaza. The war started on October 7, 2023, when thousands of Hamas-led terrorists invaded Israel, killing some 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages. The war has sparked a humanitarian crisis in the Strip, with most of the population displaced. The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry says more than 66,000 people in the Strip have been killed or are presumed dead in the fighting so far, though the toll cannot be verified and does not differentiate between civilians and fighters. Israel says it had killed over 22,000 combatants in battle as of August and another 1,600 terrorists inside Israel during the October 7 onslaught.Agencies contributed to this report.

Nepalese villages are swept away by heavy rain and landslides, killing at least 44-The government issued a severe rainfall warning in parts of the country as highways were shuttered and flights were grounded.Oct. 5, 2025, 1:45 PM EDT / By The Associated Press.

KATHMANDU, Nepal — Landslides, a lighting strike and floodings triggered by severe rainfall killed at least 44 people in Nepal on Sunday, with five others reported missing, authorities said. Those killed included at least 37 people in the eastern mountain district of Illam, where whole villages were swept away by landslides, Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said. Several other people are still missing.Heavy rainfall was reported since Friday in the district, which borders India and is known for growing tea.Six people in the same family were killed when a landslide crushed their home while they slept, Illam’s assistant administrative officer Bholanath Guragai said.Rainfall was hampering efforts to reach the villages and many roads were swept away or blocked by the landslides. The government said helicopters were also evacuating people needing medical evacuations and ground troops were helping move people to safer areas. One more person was killed in landslide in a neighboring district.Three people in another district were killed as they were struck by lightning, while three more people died in flooding in southern Nepal.Nepal’s government issued a severe rainfall warning in the eastern and central parts of the country from Saturday to Monday, while shutting down major highways. All domestic flights were grounded on Saturday by aviation authorities because of heavy rainfall and poor visibility but were reopened on Sunday. The major highways connecting the capital, Kathmandu, with other areas were closed by the authorities as some parts were blocked by landslides and others were shut as a precautionary measure.By Sunday evening, one route was partially opened for traffic. The blockage of roads and transport came as hundreds of thousands of people were returning to Kathmandu after celebrating Dashain, the biggest festival in the Himalayan nation. Thursday was the main day of the two-week festival when people travel to their home villages to be with their families.Highways were clogged with vehicles on Sunday, as the government assessed the situation. In Kathmandu, some areas near the river were flooded but no major damage or casualties were reported. The government had declared a national holiday until Monday because of the heavy rainfall.Flooding and landslides last year around the same time killed 224 people and left 158 injured.Neighboring India, which surrounds landlocked Nepal on three sides, has offered to help.Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said on social platform X that the loss of lives and damage caused by heavy rains in Nepal are distressing.“We stand with the people and Government of Nepal in this difficult time,” he said. “As a friendly neighbor and first responder, India remains committed to providing any assistance that may be required.”There was no comment from Nepal on the offer. The weekend’s heavy rainfall arrived at the end of Nepal’s monsoon season, which usually begins in June and ends by mid-September.

Typhoon Matmo strengthens, prompting China to evacuate 347,000 people ahead of landfall-The typhoon hit Zhanjiang in Guangdong on Sunday. The weather authority issued a red-level typhoon warning, its highest.Oct. 5, 2025, 12:28 PM EDT / By The Associated Press.

BANGKOK — Typhoon Matmo strengthened ahead of making landfall Sunday in China, prompting the government to evacuate some 347,000 people from the southern provinces of Guangdong and Hainan. The typhoon had maximum sustained wind speeds of 151 kph (94 mph) on Sunday morning, according to China’s National Meteorological Center. It hit Zhanjiang in Guangdong around mid-afternoon Sunday. The weather authority issued a red-level typhoon warning, the highest in its system.Hainan, which is also in the pathway of the storm, canceled flights and shut down public transport and businesses starting Saturday in preparation for the storm. The province also preemptively evacuated 197,856 people, according to state media, The Paper.Matmo directly hit the southwestern parts of Guangdong, where 151,000 people evacuated, The Paper reported. Meanwhile, local media aired footage showing large waves washing seawater onto roads in villages by the coast in Guangdong’s Zhanjiang.Authorities are also warning of heavy rain, with rainfall expected to hit 100 to 249 mm (3.93 to 9.8 inches) in some parts of Guangdong and Hainan. In the region of Macau, which is not in the typhoon’s direct path, classes and tutoring sessions were canceled due to weather conditions.Matmao had passed through the Philippines earlier this week. While there were no reports of casualties or major damage, the storm affected more than 220,000 people in five northern agricultural plains and mountainous regions. Nearly 35,000 of them either moved to emergency shelters or houses of relatives away from landslide- or flood-prone villages, disaster-response officials said on Sunday. The storm will then move westward and north, toward northern Vietnam and China’s Yunnan province.Priscilla nears major hurricane status in Pacific as new tropical storm swirls in the Atlantic-Meanwhile in the Atlantic Ocean, Tropical Storm Jerry formed Tuesday with maximum sustained winds rising to 50 mph by the afternoon-Oct. 8, 2025, 4:07 AM EDT / By The Associated Press.

MIAMI — Hurricane Priscilla neared Category 3 status on Tuesday in the Pacific as a new tropical storm formed and then strengthened in the Atlantic, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.Just off the west coast of Mexico, Priscilla was spinning with maximum sustained winds around 105 mph and moving northwest at 9 mph. It was centered Tuesday night about 375 miles west of Cabo Corrientes, Mexico, and about 190 miles south-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, forecasters said.On Tuesday, outer bands of the hurricane were already extending across the Mexican state of Baja California Sur.Meanwhile in the Atlantic Ocean, Tropical Storm Jerry formed Tuesday with maximum sustained winds rising to 50 mph by the afternoon. It was centered about 1,030 miles east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands while traveling to the west at 23 mph.Forecasters said Jerry is expected to strengthen into a hurricane in another day or two. Swells from Jerry were expected Thursday to reach the Leeward Islands with the core of the storm moving near or north of the northern Leeward Islands late Thursday and Friday.A tropical storm watch was issued for Barbuda and Anguilla, St. Barthelemy and St. Martin and Sint Maarten. In the Pacific, a tropical storm watch was in place for Baja California Sur from Cabo San Lucas to Cabo San Lazaro due to Hurricane Priscilla. On Monday night, the government of Baja California Sur announced the cancellation of classes at all educational centers starting Tuesday in Los Cabos and La Paz as a preventive measure. It also set up a dozen shelters in Los Cabos for people living in areas at risk.Parts of southwestern Mexico could get up to 4 inches of rain from Priscilla through Wednesday, bringing a flash flooding risk to Michoacán and Colima states, forecasters said.Priscilla was forecast to weaken starting Wednesday, the hurricane center said. A major hurricane is defined as Category 3 or higher and wind speeds of at least 111 mph.Swells from Priscilla were reaching the coast of Mexico. Life threatening surf and rip currents were likely, forecasters said.Farther out in the Pacific, Tropical Storm Octave was weakening about 750 miles southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. Its maximum sustained winds were 45 mph and it was moving east-southeast at 7 mph.

'We have a pretty rigorous understanding of the dating'In first, three shipwrecks from biblical times uncovered off the coast of Israel-Only 11 ships from the Iron Age had been previously found in the Mediterranean; discovery provides evidence of maritime trade under the Kingdom of Israel-By Rossella Tercatin-Today, 11:45 am-OCT 8,25

The remains of three shipwrecks and their cargoes from the Iron Age (1200-586 BCE) have been retrieved in the ancient harbor of Dor, on the Carmel Coast in northern Israel, according to an academic paper recently published by the prestigious journal Antiquity. The discovery marks the first time shipwrecks from those times have been uncovered in Israeli waters. The Iron Age, also known as the First Temple Period, encompasses the centuries during which a significant portion of the events described in the Hebrew Bible are said to have occurred. At least for part of the time, in the 9th and 8th centuries BCE, Dor was likely under the rule of the Kingdom of Israel. While almost nothing of the actual ships has survived, the remains of their cargoes, dating to the 11th, 9th, and 7th/6th centuries BCE, provide important insights into the trade routes of a crucial period in the region’s history. Among other things, the findings challenge the long-held belief among many scholars that little commerce took place under the biblical kingdoms. In addition, shipwrecks from the Iron Age are extremely rare, with only 11 such finds ever recorded in the whole Mediterranean basin.“Tel Dor is one of the few Iron Age ports that have been discovered in the eastern Mediterranean,” Prof. Thomas Levy from the University of California, San Diego, told The Times of Israel at a meeting in Jerusalem last month. “A little bit to its south, the Dor Lagoon, or Tantura Lagoon, is very rich in ships.”Levy, one of the paper’s authors, explained that discoveries from the Iron Age are rare for practical rather than historical reasons.“Underwater archeology is a very expensive endeavor,” he said. “Scholars who are interested in maritime archaeology usually deal with later times, like the Hellenist and Roman periods.”The shipwrecks were uncovered during underwater excavations in 2023-2024 codirected by Levy and by Prof. Assaf Yasur-Landau from the University of Haifa, who also authored the study.Levy described the Tantura Lagoon, which is named after a Palestinian village that existed on its shore until 1948, as a “trap for ships,” with its shallow waters, islets, and rocks.Over the decades, researchers have identified the remains of at least 26 ships and cargoes from various time periods. Only a fraction of them have been excavated. The three Iron Age shipwrecks were found one on top of the other. Some of the remains had already been identified by underwater archaeologists in the past, but dated to different periods.“We uncovered three superimposed Iron Age wrecks, similar to the stratigraphy that could be found on an ancient tel [an archaeological mound], but underwater,” Levy said. The findings at Dor included mostly pottery, such as basket-handle amphoras, and storage jars. The remains of the ships’ wood do not easily survive, often due to human intervention, Levy explained.“Because these ships went down in such shallow water, it was very easy for people to dive in and scavenge the good stuff,” he said. “Wood was very valuable. It was used again for other crafts.”Levy stated that the remains were dated by combining pottery typology with radiocarbon analysis of the organic remains that survived underwater thanks to the anaerobic environment created by the sand. The organic materials included seed and resin found in the amphoras.“Each period has a very typical assemblage of pottery, and then we also did radiocarbon dating,” he explained. “Combining them together, we have a pretty rigorous understanding of the dating.”The most recent cargo, dated to the 7th/6th centuries, included remains of basket-handled jars, iron blooms (a combination of iron and slag obtained during the smelting process of iron ores), stones that were likely used to balance the boat, and a wood-and-lead anchor. The second shipwreck contained Phoenician-style jars (three of them intact) and a few bowls that were likely used by the crew. The earliest cargo consisted of remains of jars typical of the earliest part of the Iron Age (12th/11th centuries BCE), as well as an anchor and balancing stones. At least two jars appear to carry some writing, perhaps in Cypro-Minoan. The study of the inscriptions is ongoing. The biblical centuries-The centuries when the ships sailed and sank are of great significance in the history of the land of Israel.Levy suggested that the findings offer “kind of a snapshot of the process” that took place over time.“Before the Iron Age, in the late Bronze Age, we probably had the first period of international commerce run by the big ancient civilizations of the eastern Mediterranean, including the Hittites, the Mycenaeans, and the New Kingdom of Egypt,” he said.Around 1200 BCE, these entities and the commercial networks they built are believed to have disintegrated.“After the collapse of those Eastern Mediterranean civilizations, the Iron Age polities had different economic responses to what had happened,” Levy said. The trade networks gradually recovered. The shipwrecks off the coast of Dor are part of what the researchers in the paper described as “a growing body of evidence” showing “that the coast of modern-day Israel played a role in Iron Age Mediterranean maritime connectivity and integration in the eleventh–seventh centuries BC.”In the 11th century, Dor was a crucial location in the trade between Egypt and Cyprus, as reflected in contemporary historical sources. However, its political affiliation remains unclear.“In the earliest phase, we probably are dealing with some of the Sea Peoples that are mentioned in ancient Egyptian sources,” Levy said. The 11th and 10th centuries BCE also mark the period that some scholars associate with the reigns of biblical David and Solomon over a powerful kingdom, often referred to as the “United Monarchy.” Others argue that no such kingdom existed, or that it was merely a small, loosely organized chiefdom centered around Jerusalem.“After the division of the United Monarchy into the northern Kingdom of Israel and the southern Kingdom of Judah, Dor was located in the territory of Israel,” Levy said. “Therefore, in the ninth century, it was probably part of the Israelite kingdom.”Many scholars believe that international trade in the region declined during that era. However, as the researchers noted in the paper, the newly discovered cargo demonstrates that maritime commerce was still occurring, albeit it might have remained more local than in other periods. Finally, during the 7th and 6th centuries BCE, Dor was controlled by the Assyrian Empire, which conquered and destroyed Israel in the late 8th century, and then by the Babylonians. The settlement functioned once again as an important maritime trade center.“At this point, we are no longer dealing with small, Iron Age polities, but with big, Mesopotamian empires that extended their power into this area, and wanted control of the maritime networks that had historically been controlled by the small kingdoms,” Levy said.According to the scholar, research on the Iron Age cargoes is just in its initial stages. The team also plans to go back for another season of underwater excavation in May.“This cache of cargoes is providing enough data for nine new scientific papers,” Levy said, praising the expertise guaranteed by the University of Haifa, which has long focused on underwater archaeology.“Excavating underwater is very complex,” he noted. “To achieve excellent scientific results, you need a very competent team.”Asked if he considered the ships a once-in-a-lifetime discovery, Levy was not convinced.“I can’t help but think that we will find more,” he said. “This is just the beginning of an unbelievable Iron Age project.”

FINALLY THE EUROPEAN UNION IS TALKING ABOUT HAVING THEIR OWN ARMY.AND IT MUST HAPPEN.
REVELATION 19:16-21
16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords.(JESUS RETURNG TO EARTH LITERALLY ON A WHITE HORSE WITH THE RAPTURED CHRISTIANS 7 YEARS EARLIER)
17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;
18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.(2ND TIME GOD-JESUS TELLS THE 500 MILLION MIGRATING BIRDS TO GET READY TO EAT HUMAN FLESH.THE FIRST TIME WAS WHEN GOD TOLD THE 500 MILLION MIGRATING BIRDS-TO EAT RUSSIA,GERMAN,ARAB, MUSLIM BODIES FOR 7 MONTHS IN EZEK 38 @ 39.
19 And I saw the beast,(E.U WORLD LEADER) and the kings of the earth, and their armies,(HERE IT SAYS THE E.U WILL HAVE ITS OWN ARMY) gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, (JESUS) and against his army.(RAPTURED CHRISTIANS)
20 And the beast (E.U WORLD LEADER) was taken, and with him the false prophet (POPE FRANCIS) that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

Zephaniah 2:1-15
1 Gather together, yes, gather,O shameless nation,
2 before the decree takes effect[a] -before the day passes away like chaff—before there comes upon you the burning anger of the Lord, before there comes upon you the day of the anger of the Lord.
3 Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, who do his just commands;[b] seek righteousness; seek humility; perhaps you may be hidden on the day of the anger of the Lord.
4 For Gaza shall be deserted, and Ashkelon shall become a desolation; Ashdod's people shall be driven out at noon, and Ekron shall be uprooted.
5 Woe to you inhabitants of the seacoast, you nation of the Cherethites! The word of the Lord is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines; and I will destroy you until no inhabitant is left.
6 And you, O seacoast, shall be pastures, with meadows[c] for shepherds and folds for flocks.
7 The seacoast shall become the possession of the remnant of the house of Judah, on which they shall graze, and in the houses of Ashkelon they shall lie down at evening. For the Lord their God will be mindful of them and restore their fortunes.
8 “I have heard the taunts of Moab (JORDAN) and the revilings of the Ammonites, how they have taunted my people and made boasts against their territory.
9 Therefore, as I live,” declares the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Moab shall become like Sodom, and the Ammonites like Gomorrah, a land possessed by nettles and salt pits, and a waste forever. The remnant of my people shall plunder them, and the survivors of my nation shall possess them.”
10 This shall be their lot in return for their pride, because they taunted and boasted against the people of the Lord of hosts.
11 The Lord will be awesome against them; for he will famish all the gods of the earth, and to him shall bow down, each in its place, all the lands of the nations.
12 You also, O Cushites, shall be slain by my sword.
13 And he will stretch out his hand against the north and destroy Assyria,(SYRIA) and he will make Nineveh a desolation, a dry waste like the desert.
14 Herds shall lie down in her midst, all kinds of beasts;[d] even the owl and the hedgehog[e]  shall lodge in her capitals; a voice shall hoot in the window; devastation will be on the threshold; for her cedar work will be laid bare.
15 This is the exultant city that lived securely, that said in her heart, “I am, and there is no one else.” What a desolation she has become, a lair for wild beasts! DANIEL 2:37-45
37 Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.
38 And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.
39 And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.
40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.
41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.
42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.
43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.
44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.

DANIEL 7:17-26
17 These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth.
18 But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.
19 Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was diverse from all the others, exceeding dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his nails of brass; which devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with his feet;
20 And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows.
21 I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;
22 Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.
23 Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.
24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.
25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
26 But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end.

What we need is a man who is great enough to be able to keep all the people in subjection to himself and to lift us out of the economic bog into which we threaten to sink. Send us such a man. Be he a god or a devil, we will accept him.And today, sadly, the world is indeed ready for such a man.

Deyling, Observations, iii., p. 423ff); hence, τά στίγματα τοῦ (κυρίου so Rec.) Ἰησοῦ, the marks of (the Lord) Jesus, which Paul in Galatians 6:17 says he bears branded on his body, are the traces left there by the perils, hardships, imprisonments, scourgings, endured by him for the cause of Christ, and which mark him as Christ's faithful and approved votary, servant, soldier (see Lightfoots Commentary on Galatians, the passage cited). 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords.(JESUS RETURNG TO EARTH LITERALLY ON A WHITE HORSE WITH THE RAPTURED CHRISTIANS 7 YEARS EARLIER)
17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;

Revolutionising the Skies: How Helsing's CA-1 Europa Drone Could Transform Autonomous Warfare-by Scott N. Romaniuk and Laszlo Csicsmann.

Budapest, Hungary (SPX) Oct 06, 2025-Amid rising geopolitical tensions, Europe is accelerating its push into autonomous military technology. German AI defence firm Helsing recently unveiled its fully autonomous combat drone, the CA-1 Europa, with operational deployment targeted for 2029. More than a drone, the CA-1 Europa could signal a strategic shift in how European forces plan, respond, and assert independence in aerial combat. The CA-1 Europa is a deliberate effort to place Europe at the forefront of modern warfare, where autonomy is increasingly shaping aerial operations. Beyond conventional unmanned vehicles, it raises crucial questions about integrating autonomous systems into military strategy and how such platforms could influence the regional balance of power.Technological Capabilities and Strategic Potential-Weighing four tonnes, the CA-1 Europa is a V-tailed, high-speed drone designed for fully autonomous missions or coordinated 'wingman' operations alongside crewed aircraft. Its Centaur AI enables dual-mode functionality, suggesting a significant advance over current European drones, though operational reliability remains to be tested. Modular construction allows sensors, software, and payloads to be upgraded with ease, supporting adaptability and rapid deployment across varied mission profiles. Integrating these autonomous systems into existing command structures will be critical to realising their strategic potential. From a broader perspective, the Europa is a step towards reducing Europe's reliance on foreign suppliers while increasing operational independence. Its multi-role capabilities - from reconnaissance to strike missions - may offer a tactical edge, contingent on interoperability with other European platforms and alignment with operational doctrines.Ethical and Operational Considerations-High autonomy introduces technical, operational, and ethical challenges. When AI can select targets or respond independently to threats, accountability becomes less clear. Establishing human oversight protocols and limits on autonomous action will be crucial to ensure compliance with international norms and ethical standards.Scaling from smaller semi-autonomous drones to a full-size, high-speed combat platform also requires careful engineering, rigorous testing, and integration into operational infrastructures. Balancing speed, flexibility, and mission complexity without compromising control or reliability remains an ongoing challenge.Strategic Context and Future Outlook-The Europa reflects Europe's desire to strengthen indigenous aerial capabilities in response to rising Russian assertiveness, potentially reducing reliance on the United States for immediate military support. Its ultimate impact depends on deployment scale, evolving threat response, and transparency regarding armaments, range, and cost. In a competitive European AI-driven defence landscape, these factors will determine the drone's strategic significance. If realised as intended, the CA-1 Europa could mark a turning point in European aerial autonomy. Its combination of AI sophistication, operational versatility, high-speed performance, and scalable design represents a notable advance. However, technical performance alone will not suffice - ethical oversight, interoperability, and strategic integration are equally critical. Successfully managing these factors could position Germany, and potentially other European nations, at the forefront of a transformative shift in autonomous combat capabilities.Scott N. EU 'must respond' to Russia's 'hybrid warfare': von der Leyen.

Strasbourg, France, Oct 8 (AFP) Oct 08, 2025-EU chief Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday said Europe must ramp up its defences to deter Russia's "hybrid warfare", after a catalogue of air incursions, cyber attacks and damage to undersea cables."These incidents are calculated to linger in the twilight of deniability. This is not random harassment. It is a coherent and escalating campaign," the European Commission head said in a speech to EU lawmakers."Two incidents are coincidence, but three, five, 10 -- this is a deliberate and targeted grey zone campaign against Europe, and Europe must respond," she said.EU countries Poland, Estonia and Romania have recently been rattled by Russian air incursions, while unidentified drones have been spotted in Denmark, Germany and Belgium.European countries have already increased defence spending to post-Cold War highs in the face of Moscow's war in Ukraine and doubts over US support under President Donald Trump. Now the EU is seeking to hammer out plans for joint projects that could be built by the 27-nation bloc -- including a "wall" of anti-drone defences."We must not only react. We must deter because if we hesitate to act, the grey zone will only expand," von der Leyen said."The founding mission of the European Union is to preserve peace, and today that means having the capacity to deter aggression and provocation."EU leaders will seek at a summit in Brussels later this month to agree on a "road map" aimed at getting the bloc ready to ward off threats from Russia in the coming years."This will not only set common objectives, but also very concrete milestones and timelines on the way to 2030 because we all know only what gets measured gets really done," von der Leyen said. The commission president insisted that tackling "Russia's hybrid war" requires "a completely new mindset for all of us"."The choice before us is very simple. We either can shy away and watch Russian threats escalate, or we meet them with unity, deterrence and resolve," von der Leyen said.

Iran summons EU envoys over bloc's 'interventionist' stance.

Tehran, Oct 8 (AFP) Oct 08, 2025-Iran summoned envoys from European Union member states to protest the bloc's "interventionist" statements on contested islands in the Strait of Hormuz as well as the Islamic republic's nuclear programme, local media reported Wednesday.Iran considers the islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa, all near the strategic Strait of Hormuz in the Gulf, as part of its sovereign territory.Iran's deputy foreign minister summoned the heads of mission from EU states to criticise a joint communique issued by the bloc and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on Monday, the official ISNA news agency reported, without naming the envoys.Following an EU-GCC summit in Kuwait, the meeting's final statement called on Iran "to end its occupation of the three islands of the United Arab Emirates".The deputy minister, Majid Takht-Ravanchi, conveyed Tehran's "strong protest" over what he called the bloc's support for the UAE's "baseless claim" to the islands. The EU-GCC statement also urged Iran to resume full cooperation with the UN's nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), pursue regional de-escalation and curb proliferation of missiles and drones.Tehran suspended its cooperation with the IAEA following months of heightened tensions and attacks on key nuclear sites. In June, a 12-day war erupted after unprecedented Israeli strikes inside Iran targeted military, political and nuclear-related sites.Iran responded with missile and drone attacks on Israel and on the largest US base in the Middle East, located in Qatar, after Washington launched a bombing raid of its own.Takht-Ravanchi also dismissed remarks on Iran's missile programme as "clear interference in Iran's internal affairs," saying the country's "indigenous defensive capabilities" were an inherent right and a guarantor of regional stability. The EU has previously imposed sanctions on Iran over its missile activities, accusing Tehran of supplying drones and missiles to Russia for use in the war in Ukraine.Iran has rejected the claims, saying it has not sided with any parties in the conflict despite its strategic partnership with Moscow.Takht-Ravanchi further decried a move by the EU and the three European signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran -- Britain, France and Germany -- to reimpose UN sanctions, alleging Tehran was not meeting its obligations. He accused the EU of "breaching their commitments" and "causing a deadlock in diplomacy".

US report says European giant, others sell to Chinese military-linked companies.

Washington, Oct 7 (AFP) Oct 07, 2025-A US Congressional committee report released Tuesday said that five major semiconductor equipment manufacturers, including European giant ASML, sold $38 billion worth of critical technology to China in 2024, including to companies flagged as US national security threats. The House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party found that China now accounts for 39 percent of total revenue for the five leading "toolmakers" -- the specialized, highly complex machines needed to produce computer chips. The report mentioned US companies Applied Materials, KLA Corporation and Lam Research, but said ASML of the Netherlands and Japan's Tokyo Electron had substantially increased sales to restricted Chinese entities as Washington imposed stricter controls on American companies' exports. The investigation revealed that five Chinese companies restricted by Washington for their military ties were among the top 30 customers of all five equipment manufacturers between 2022 and 2024.These included Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC), China's largest chipmaker, and Yangtze Memory Technologies (YMTC)."The Toolmakers are selling the forges of future weapons and surveillance tools to the very companies that seek to build (China's) semiconductor industry into a dominant force," the report said. The supply from the five companies is crucial to China's efforts to ramp up its chip industry to beat restrictions imposed by Washington as Beijing looks to keep up in the race towards state-of-the-art AI technology. The report said ASML sold 70 percent of its advanced DUV immersion lithography systems to China in 2024, up from 26 percent in 2022. These machines are critical for producing sophisticated semiconductors used in artificial intelligence and military applications."China is striving with all its might to build a domestic, self-sufficient semiconductor manufacturing industry," the report warned, noting the technology could be used for military projects threatening the US.The committee recommended dramatically expanding export controls to cover all semiconductor manufacturing equipment capable of producing advanced chips destined for China, not just specific components or products. It also called for better alignment of export controls among US allies, particularly the Netherlands and Japan, warning that the current patchwork system creates an "unlevel playing field" where foreign companies can sell equipment that American firms cannot.

Gold tops $4,000 for first time as traders pile into safe haven.

Hong Kong, Oct 8 (AFP) Oct 08, 2025-Gold prices broke $4,000 for the first time Wednesday as investors piled into the safe haven over expectations for US interest rate cuts and worries over the US government shutdown. The rally in the precious metal also came after concerns that a tech-fuelled rally that has sent some equity markets to record highs may have gone too far, fanning talk of an asset bubble.Traders have been piling into gold all year, pushing it up more than 50 percent since the turn of the year, on the back of a range of issues including global economic uncertainty, Donald Trump's trade war and geopolitical crises. Its allure was increased further this week by political turmoil in France, where the country's prime minister resigned and President Emmanuel Macron's former premier urged him to resign and call early elections.Gold -- long considered a go-to in times of uncertainty -- climbed to a high of $4,037.10 Wednesday, even as the dollar has pushed up against most of its peers in recent days. Silver was also within a few dollars of its own record high. The closure of parts of the US government is adding to the sense of unease among investors, with key economic data, including on jobs, being postponed and muddying the waters for the Federal Reserve as it tries to decide on its rate plans."The rapid rise in gold prices has been supported by rising inflows into (exchange-traded funds) and central bank buying, including solid demand from China, as gold benefits from political, economic, and inflation uncertainty," wrote Taylor Nugent at National Australia Bank. And Pepperstone's Chris Weston said "funds and global reserve managers want a hedge -- against fiscal recklessness, currency debasement, and unpredictable government policy -- and gold sits squarely at the heart of that movement".While gold traders were busy pushing the metal ever higher, equity markets were more subdued in Asia as questions were asked about the hundreds of billions of dollars that have been invested in artificial intelligence. The AI boom has seen some indexes and companies hit record highs, with chip titan Nvidia topping a $4 trillion valuation. But a report that software firm Oracle's cloud computing profit margin was much lower than expected sent shivers through trading floors, with all three main indexes on Wall Street falling into the red."In a market priced for perfection, any delay in cash flow -- even a temporary one -- feels like the bartender calling 'last call'," wrote Stephen Innes of SPI Asset Management."Traders didn't wait for clarification; they simply started easing out of their positions. The Oracle story didn't crash the party, but it definitely sobered it."Tech firms, which have enjoyed strong buying this year and in recent months, led selling in Asia, with Alibaba and JD.com down in Hong Kong, TSMC dropping in Taipei and Renesas sharply lower in Tokyo.Hong Kong and Taipei were among the biggest losers, while Sydney, Mumbai and Singapore also fell.Tokyo dropped after rallying this week on optimism that the election of business-friendly conservative Sanae Takaichi as the ruling party's leader will see more stimulus measures and a fresh push for monetary easing.Wellington, Manila, Bangkok and Jakarta edged up with London, Paris and Frankfurt.- Key figures at around 0715 GMT -Tokyo - Nikkei 225: DOWN 0.5 percent at 47,734.99 (close)-Hong Kong - Hang Seng Index: DOWN 1.1 percent at 26,661.43-London - FTSE 100: UP 0.3 percent at 9,510.10-Shanghai - Composite: Closed for a holiday-Euro/dollar: DOWN at $1.1614 from $1.1652 on Tuesday-Pound/dollar: DOWN at $1.3391 from $1.3422-Dollar/yen: UP at 152.42 yen from 151.97 yen-Euro/pound: DOWN at 86.74 pence from 86.83 pence-West Texas Intermediate: UP 1.1 percent at $62.38 per barrel-Brent North Sea Crude: UP 1.0 percent at $66.07 per barrel-New York - Dow: DOWN 0.2 percent at 46,602.98 (close) dan/mtp

Swiss glaciers shrank 3% this year, the fourth-biggest retreat on record-More than 1,000 small glaciers in Switzerland have already disappeared, experts said.Europe’s glaciers melting at fastest pace on the planet-Oct. 2, 2025, 9:16 AM EDT / By The Associated Press.

GENEVA — Switzerland’s glaciers have faced “enormous” melting this year with a 3% drop in total volume — the fourth-largest annual drop on record — due to the effects of global warming, top Swiss glaciologists reported Wednesday. The shrinkage this year means that ice mass in Switzerland — home to the most glaciers in Europe — has declined by one-quarter over the last decade, the Swiss glacier monitoring group GLAMOS and the Swiss Academy of Sciences said in their report.“Glacial melting in Switzerland was once again enormous in 2025,” the scientists said. “A winter with low snow depth combined with heat waves in June and August led to a loss of 3% of the glacier volume.”Switzerland is home to nearly 1,400 glaciers, the most of any country in Europe, and the ice mass and its gradual melting have implications for hydropower, tourism, farming and water resources in many European countries.More than 1,000 small glaciers in Switzerland have already disappeared, the experts said. The teams reported that a winter with little snow was followed by heat waves in June — the second-warmest June on record — which left the snow reserves depleted by early July. Ice masses began to melt earlier than ever, they said.“Glaciers are clearly retreating because of anthropogenic global warming,” said Matthias Huss, the head of GLAMOS, referring to climate change caused by human activity.“This is the main cause for the acceleration we are seeing in the last two years,” added Huss, who is also a glaciologist at Zurich’s ETHZ university. The shrinkage is the fourth-largest after those in 2022, 2023 and back in 2003.The retreat and loss of glaciers is also having an impact on Switzerland’s landscape, causing mountains to shift and ground to become unstable.Swiss authorities have been on heightened alert for such changes after a huge mass of rock and ice from a glacier thundered down a mountainside that covered nearly all of the southern village of Blatten in May.
