WHEN ARE THE 500 MILLION MIGRATING BIRDS IN ISRAEL IN THE SPRING TIME.(GET READY ISLAM TO BE BIRD SEED FOR THESE BIRDS)
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/m0bXU5Xqc5M
The
500 million migratory birds in Israel during the spring arrive from
Africa and head toward Europe and Asia, with the peak migration
occurring in March and April. While migration starts in late February,
the most intense movements, particularly of birds of prey, storks, and
pelicans, occur during the third week of March and continue into April.
Key Details on the Spring Migration
Peak Period: Mid-March through April.
Main
Migration Route: The birds use the Great Rift Valley, which includes
the Hula Valley and Eilat, acting as a "bottleneck" where millions of
birds fly through the narrow land bridge.
Best Spots: The Hula Lake
Park (Northern Israel) and the Eilat Birding Center (Southern Israel)
are primary locations for observing the migration.
Key Species:
Hundreds of thousands of white storks, along with black kites, raptors,
and pelicans, pass through over these months.
uration: The spring migration runs from late February and continues into June, though the heaviest traffic is in March/April.
The
500 million migratory birds fly over Israel in the fall between late
August and mid-December. The peak migration period for the autumn, when
the highest volume of bird traffic occurs, is typically October and
November.
Key Fall Migration Details
Location: The Hula Valley (Agamon Hula Park) in northern Israel is the premier spot to witness this phenomenon.
Timing: Migration starts as early as late June with some waders, but intensifies from mid-August through November.
Peak Festival: The "Annual Hula Valley Bird Festival" is usually held in November to align with the peak migration traffic.
Key
Species: Many birds of prey (raptors), including honey buzzards and
steppe eagles, cross during this time, along with massive flocks of
storks and cranes.
While roughly 500 million birds pass through in
the autumn on their way to Africa, the same number crosses again in the
spring (mid-February to May) on their way back to Europe and Asia.

Trump warns 'whole civilization will die' in Iran if ultimatum expires.
Washington,
United States, April 7 (AFP) Apr 07, 2026-President Donald Trump warned
that "a whole civilization will die" in Iran on Tuesday if the country
does not heed his ultimatum to accept US war demands."A whole
civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don't
want that to happen, but it probably will," Trump wrote on his Truth
Social platform.Trump did not give details but he has already said the
US military could bomb Iran's bridges, power plants and other civilian
infrastructure into the "stone age."Trump has announced a deadline of
midnight GMT Tuesday for Iran to end its de facto closing of the Strait
of Hormuz, a narrow, strategic waterway used to transport oil and other
commodities. On Monday, he said a temporary cease-fire proposal being
circulated was insufficient.Iran has rejected US pressure, with state
media reporting that the authorities are insisting that instead of just a
cease-fire it wants a full end to the war.In his Truth Social post,
Trump left the door open for a last-hour agreement."Now that we have
Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less
radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can
happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight," he wrote.Trump said
Monday that starting late evening in Washington, DC on Tuesday, US
forces would destroy "every bridge in Iran" and cripple "every power
plant" in the country -- something that many experts say would be a
blatant war crime.US and Israeli warplanes have been continuously
bombing Iran since February 28 and on Tuesday, even before Trump's
threat about ending "civilization," Tehran said that its crucial oil
export terminal on Kharg island was under attack.
US-Israeli strikes hit Iran's Kharg island: media.
Tehran,
April 7 (AFP) Apr 07, 2026-US-Israeli strikes have hit the key Iranian
oil export terminal of Kharg island, media reported Tuesday."The
American-Zionist enemy has carried out several attacks on Kharg island,
and several explosions have been heard there," Iran's Mehr news agency
reported.According to an X post by journalist Barak Ravid of the news
site Axios, citing a US official, the US carried out "strikes on
military targets" on the island located off Iran's western
coast.President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened nationwide
destruction of Iran's civilian infrastructure and on Tuesday he said a
"whole civilization" could be wiped out. However, The New York Times
quoted an unidentified White House official saying that the targets on
Kharg Island were military. CNN quoted a US official saying the strikes
were against military targets and did not hit oil facilities.Kharg
Island is at the heart of Iran's oil export industry, a lynchpin of the
country's battered economy, and lies in the narrow, strategic Hormuz
Strait. It has Iran's largest oil terminal, oil pipelines, storage tanks
and related infrastructure. On March 13, the United States said it
bombed more than 90 military targets on the island, without hitting oil
infrastructure.
Key infrastructure in Iran hit ahead of Trump deadline.
Tehran,
April 7 (AFP) Apr 07, 2026-Iran said critical infrastructure, including
two bridges, was struck Tuesday by the United States and Israel, with
US President Donald Trump warning "a whole civilisation will die" if a
midnight deadline for a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz was not
met.The strikes came as Iran's Revolutionary Guards warned they would
deprive the United States and its allies of oil and gas if Washington
crossed Tehran's "red lines".Trump had warned that unless Tehran allowed
free passage through the strategic oil chokepoint by midnight GMT, the
United States would unleash what he called the "complete demolition" of
Iran's critical infrastructure, including bridges and power plants. But
hours before that deadline, the Israeli military said that it had
already completed a broad wave of strikes targeting "infrastructure
sites" across Iran.Trump meanwhile elevated his threat, writing on Truth
Social that "a whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought
back again. I don't want that to happen, but it probably will", if the
country did not heed his ultimatum.Iranian authorities reported a
US-Israeli attack on a bridge outside the city of Qom and a strike on a
rail bridge in central Iran that killed two people.Regional authorities
also said that a US-Israeli strike shut down a key highway in northern
Iran connecting the city of Tabriz with Tehran. The Mizan news agency
additionally reported a strike on railway tracks in Karaj, outside
Tehran.Ahead of those strikes, university student Metanat, whose
classmate was killed two weeks ago in an attack, told AFP that she was
"terrified and so should everyone else in the country be".The
27-year-old, who declined to give her last name, said as far as Trump's
ultimatums were concerned, "some people think they are a joke", but
"death is not a joke".The Iranian military has previously dismissed what
it called Trump's "arrogant rhetoric and baseless threats", saying they
would not hinder its operations.Alireza Rahimi, Secretary of the
Supreme Council of Youth and Adolescents of Iran, called on young people
to form human chains around power plants across the country. On Tuesday
the Israeli military told Iranians to avoid taking trains until 1730
GMT, and train travel to and from Iran's second city of Mashhad was
cancelled until further notice. In the Gulf, the King Fahd Bridge, a
major artery connecting Saudi Arabia and the island nation of Bahrain,
was temporarily closed as a precaution amid fears of retaliatory strikes
by Iran.- Explosions -Strikes were also reported on Kharg island, a
critical hub for the Iranian oil industry, according to Iran's Mehr news
agency, although a journalist for the US publication Axios said the
attack was against "military targets".Earlier in the day a series of
explosions was heard across Tehran, and Iranian media reported that 18
people, including two children, were killed in strikes in Alborz
province neighbouring the capital.US-Israeli strikes also "completely
destroyed" the capital's Rafi-Nia synagogue, local media
reported.Iranian media said explosions were heard in parts of the
capital and nearby Karaj. The Israeli army later said it had detected
missiles launched from Iran towards Israeli territory, adding that air
defence systems were working to intercept them.Overnight, attacks on
Saudi Arabia hit a petrochemical complex in a sprawling industrial area
in the eastern city of Jubail, a witness who requested anonymity told
AFP, hours after similar installations in Iran were struck.- Ceasefire
proposal rejected -Both Trump and Iran have said a proposal touted by
international mediators for a 45-day ceasefire is not yet ready.Trump
had said earlier that the plan, which is being mediated by Pakistan,
Egypt and Turkey, was a "significant proposal", but he later went on to
say it was not good enough.Iranian state media quoted officials as
saying that Tehran too "has rejected a ceasefire and insists on the need
for a definitive end to the conflict".Under the plan, Iran would reopen
the strait while charging around $2 million per vessel, a fee it would
share with neighbouring Oman, the New York Times reported. On the
diplomatic front, the UN Security Council is set to vote on Tuesday on a
watered-down resolution addressing Iran's threats to the strait,
diplomatic sources told AFP, after more robust earlier drafts were
derailed by the possibility of vetoes.Iran has effectively blocked the
strait since the start of the war on February 28, driving up global oil
and gas prices. Around one?fifth of the world's oil normally flows
through the strait.burs-bfm/dcp
Strait of Hormuz shipping blockade update.
London,
April 7 (AFP) Apr 07, 2026-Here are the latest key facts about impacts
from the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial shipping route
virtually paralysed by the Middle East war.Around a fifth of global
crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) passes through the waterway in
peacetime. The war erupted on February 28 when the United States and
Israel began bombing Iran, prompting Tehran to retaliate with strikes
across the region and restrict access to the strait.- LNG tankers U-turn
-Two LNG tankers carrying Qatari gas turned around after attempting to
cross the strait eastward on Monday morning. They would have been the
first laden LNG carriers to exit the Gulf since the start of the war.An
empty LNG tanker co-owned by Omani and Japanese shipping companies
crossed the strait last week.Kpler data shows that 19 LNG tankers are
currently in the Gulf.- Still few crossings -Since March 1, commodities
carriers have made 293 crossings, according to Kpler data, a 94-percent
decrease from peacetime traffic.Of these, 189 were made by oil tankers
and gas carriers, and most were travelling east towards the Gulf of
Oman.Six out of 10 crossings involved ships coming from or heading to
Iran. The other main countries involved in recent days were the United
Arab Emirates, India, China and Oman.A tanker owned by French shipping
giant CMA CGM crossed the waterway on Thursday, making it the first
known transit by a major European shipping group since March 1.Three
Japan-linked ships have also exited the Gulf through the Strait of
Hormuz since Thursday. The channel in peacetime sees around 120 daily
transits, according to Lloyd's List, a shipping industry intelligence
site.- 29 ships targeted -Four incidents involving ships, including two
claimed by Iran's Revolutionary Guards, have been reported since
Saturday. The latest incident reported on Tuesday morning involved a
container vessel near Iran's Kish Island that was struck by an "unknown
projectile which has caused damage above the waterline", according to
British marine security agency UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).In
total 29 commercial ships, including 13 tankers, have been attacked or
reported incidents since March 1 in the Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz or
the Gulf of Oman, according to UKMTO and Vanguard Tech.- 11 sea workers
killed -Since the conflict began, at least 11 seafarers or dock workers
have died in incidents in the region, according to the International
Maritime Organization (IMO).One sea worker is also missing, and ten
others are injured, the IMO said.- Iran-approved route -Apart from three
Omani tankers that passed through the strait last week near Oman's
shore, recent crossings appeared to have used a different,
Iranian-approved route just off the country's coast.Kpler data shows
that all ships crossing with their transponders on since Friday passed
through that route near Larak Island, which Lloyd's List has dubbed the
"Tehran Toll Booth".Lloyd's List analyst Bridget Diakun said last week
THAT there had been at least two cases of shippers paying Iran for
permission to pass, while others may have been gaining passage through
"diplomatic negotiations".The Revolutionary Guards said the route was
closed to vessels travelling to and from ports linked to Iran's
"enemies".- Over 2,000 ships in Gulf -Bloomberg data showed Tuesday that
2,268 vessels sent transponder signals in the Gulf west of the Strait
of Hormuz over the past day, including 47 very large crude carriers and
nine very large gas carriers.- Sanctioned ships -Since the war started,
49 percent of the crossings have been by ships under US, EU or UK
sanctions, according to an AFP analysis of passage data.Of the crossings
by oil and gas tankers, 65 percent were by vessels under sanctions.

The
GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB), nicknamed the "Mother of
All Bombs," is the United States military's most powerful non-nuclear
conventional weapon. Developed in 2003, this 21,600-pound, GPS-guided
bomb is designed to destroy large-area targets, tunnels, and fortified
positions, famously deployed once in Afghanistan in 2017
Key Details and Capabilities:
Purpose:
Developed during the Iraq War (2003) as a psychological and tactical
weapon for "shock and awe," it acts as a successor to the Vietnam-era
15,000-pound BLU-82 "Daisy Cutter".
Explosive Force: It contains
18,700 pounds of H6, a mixture of explosives, creating a massive blast
radius of 1 mile (1.6 km), often exploding 6 feet above the ground for
maximum destruction.
Deployment: Due to its immense size (30 ft
long), it is deployed from the rear cargo bay of a C-130 Hercules
transport aircraft using a parachute, rather than being dropped from a
traditional bomber.
Combat Use: On April 13, 2017, the U.S. used a
MOAB in combat for the first time, targeting an Islamic State tunnel
complex in the Achin district of Afghanistan.
Cost: Each bomb costs roughly, with total development costs estimated up to million.
Key Specifications (approximate):
Weight:21,600 lbs
Guidance: GPS/INS (satellite-guided)
Length: 30 feet
Diameter: 40.5 inches
Note:
The MOAB is distinct from Russia’s "Father of All Bombs," which is
reported to be a thermobaric weapon with roughly four times the
explosive power of the GBU-43.

The GBU-57 Massive
Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) is the world’s largest non-nuclear "bunker
buster" bomb, designed for the U.S. Air Force to destroy hardened
underground facilities. Weighing 30,000 lbs (13,600 kg) and carried only
by B-2 stealth bombers, it can penetrate up to 200 feet (60 m) of earth
or 60 feet of concrete.
Key Facts About the GBU-57 MOP:
Purpose:
Specifically engineered to destroy underground nuclear, chemical, or
biological facilities, often cited in discussions regarding Iran's
Fordow facility.
Dimensions & Payload: It is 20.5 feet long and
carries over 5,300 lbs (2,400 kg) of high explosives inside a massive
steel casing.
Guidance & Penetration: It uses GPS for precise
targeting and is designed to detonate after penetrating deep
underground, maximizing destructive energy against hardened structures.
Delivery Platform: Only the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber is equipped to carry the GBU-57, with capacity for two bombs per aircraft.
Capabilities:
The MOP is the most powerful conventional bomb in the U.S. arsenal,
intended to deal with deeply buried targets (HDBTs).
The GBU-57
was developed by Boeing and has undergone multiple upgrades to increase
its effectiveness against enhanced, deeply buried targets.

‘new, reasonable’ Iran is neither new nor reasonable, and he knows
it-‘We won, okay,’ the US president declared. Not so long as the regime
retains power, its nuclear ambitions undimmed * Also, Netanyahu’s
empathy deficitBy David Horovitz-Today, 4:36 pm-APR 7,26
This
Editor’s Note was sent out earlier Tuesday in ToI’s weekly update email
to members of the Times of Israel Community. To receive these Editor’s
Notes as they’re released, join the ToI Community here. There is a
blatant contradiction between US President Donald Trump’s repeated
insistence, on the one hand, that the war against Iran has achieved
“regime change” and he is now negotiating with new, “much more
reasonable leaders,” and his simultaneous acknowledgement, on the other,
that any Iranian who dares to take to the streets faces an immediate
death sentence.“Well, they should do it,” he said at his White House
press conference on Monday, when asked whether the Iranian public should
try anew to rise up against its oppressors. “But, again, the
consequences are great… I mean, they were told, ‘If you protest, you
will be shot immediately.'”The same goes for his simultaneous
contention, also expounded at Monday’s press conference, that the
purportedly new regime is “not as radicalized” as its predecessor, but
that, nonetheless, “Israel will be gone, the Middle East will be gone,”
if Iran gets the bomb. The fact is that the “new” faces of Iran are just
like the “old” faces — except newly aware of their immense potential to
extort the world via control over the Strait of Hormuz, and more aware,
too, that nuclear weapons would make them broadly invincible. What that
underlines, in turn, is the imperative to close down the Islamic
Republic’s pathways to the bomb as hermetically as possible.Along with
the tactical successes of a war now in its sixth week — the targeting of
key leaders, commanders and nuclear scientists, of military facilities,
of military-related industries — have come a series of disappointments
and surprises: Iran has fired potent missiles, with longer ranges and a
mix of devastating warheads, at far more diverse targets than expected;
it has managed to keep on firing despite the relentless strikes on its
launchers and stocks; a hoped-for Kurdish invasion failed to
materialize; and US allies, in the region and beyond, did not join the
fight, even after some of them were heavily targeted. In terms of
strategic goals and expectations, the campaign to date has not created a
sufficiently secure reality on the streets to enable the Iranian masses
to “take control of your government,” as Trump had promised on February
28, when assuring Iranians that “the hour of your freedom is at
hand.”And crucially, Iran, for now, retains that 450-kilogram stockpile
of uranium enriched to 60 percent — just a short step away from weapons
grade — albeit buried underground, with the US constantly “watching” by
satellite, the president said last week.“If we see them make a move,
even a move for it, we will hit them with missiles very hard again,”
Trump vowed. But what about the not-so-distant future, when he is no
longer president? And what if it turns out that other, untenable,
surprises lie in wait, in terms of hitherto unknown progress toward the
bomb, including in weaponization? Were the current Israeli government
more diplomatically capable, it would be coordinating with the many
nations in this region who fear for their futures if the Islamic
Republic is allowed to stand, and galvanizing a chorus of public and
private advocacy to further impress upon the wider American public that
today’s buried or obliterated Iranian nuclear program can become
tomorrow’s Iranian nuclear arsenal, and that the danger is not regional,
but global.“We won, okay,” the US president claimed on Monday night.
But for all his contradictions, as Trump knows full well, the Iranian
regime against which he went to war remains in power, and its nuclear
ambitions are anything but dimmed. The prime minister’s priorities-This
has been a particularly ignominious few days in terms of Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu’s skewed priorities and familiar incapacity for
empathy.Last week, in a late-night maneuver, he furtively redirected
hundreds of more millions of dollars from the public purse to the
coalition’s ultra-Orthodox partners — funding those who oppose
performing military service to protect the country, at the expense of
those who are fighting on the front lines. Then, on Sunday, even as
search and rescue teams were working to recover what tragically proved
to be the four bodies of a beloved Israeli family from the rubble of a
Haifa building hit by an Iranian ballistic missile, the prime minister
was busy denouncing the Supreme Court for approving “a left-wing
demonstration in Tel Aviv” while ostensibly restricting Jews “from
praying at the Western Wall” during Passover. In fact, the court ruled to
raise the numbers allowed to gather at the Western Wall and the Temple
Mount amid the ongoing war from the Home Front Command’s recommended 50
to 100. And the court’s president Isaac Amit, a prime focus of the
coalition’s efforts to demonize and subjugate the judiciary, lamented
while hearing petitions on the matter that the Western Wall, the
“innermost soul of the Jewish world,” was empty. “Freedom to demonstrate
and freedom of worship and religion carry the same constitutional
weight,” Amit specified. That same evening, in a quite astonishing act of
political self-harm, the prime minister also announced he had refused
to accept the resignation of his spokesman and chief of staff, who was
found to have made a series of highly derogatory racist remarks about
Sephardi Jews in general and several of Netanyahu’s Likud Party
lawmakers of Middle Eastern origin in particular. Only when his own
supporters, including the insulted MKs, rose up in protest did the prime
minister reverse course. And finally, most egregiously, Netanyahu filmed
an Instagram video that day in which he castigated those who are
warning that Israel “has lost the north” amid the battering of northern
Israel by Hezbollah rocket and missile fire. Local leaders have been
among those issuing that anguished criticism, but the prime minister
declared to the camera that Israel is in the ascendant, Hezbollah is
being ground down, and that naysayers are amplifying Iranian and
Hezbollah propaganda when they ought to be joining “the national
struggle” on the road to victory. Can he not manage even a modicum of
empathy for hundreds of thousands of Israelis under nonstop enemy
attack, with little or no time to seek shelter — not to mention the rest
of the country, responsibly and resiliently either serving in the IDF
or doing its best to stay safe and function in a war whose necessity it
fully recognizes?

The Israeli
Air Force bombed eight rail sections and bridges in Iran on Tuesday, as
part of efforts to prevent the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from
moving weapon systems, the military said.Ahead of the strikes, the
Israel Defense Forces warned Iranians to stay away from trains until the
evening. In a statement, the IDF said it had struck eight rail bridges
and sections of roads “used by the Iranian terror regime to transport
weapons and military equipment.”A security official told The Times of
Israel that the IRGC had used the “key” rail sections and bridges to
transport weapons. Israel had also warned it would strike Iranian
“national infrastructure” to cause economic damage to the regime. The
strikes were carried out in several areas of Iran, including Tehran,
Karaj, Tabriz, Kashan, and Qom, according to the military.“The crossings
were struck to prevent regime forces from using them to transfer
equipment and weapons,” the IDF said in a statement. In the central city
of Kashan, two people were killed in an attack on a rail bridge, a
regional official told state media. In Iran’s second-largest city of
Mashhad, all train services were canceled until further notice after the
Israeli warning, local media reported, citing the governor.Meanwhile,
the US military conducted strikes on military targets on Iran’s Kharg
Island, the Axios news outlet reported on Tuesday, citing an
unidentified senior US official. The island, located off Iran’s western
coast, is a vital oil export terminal for the country. The attacks
occurred hours before US President Donald Trump’s ultimatum to Iran to
reopen the Strait of Hormuz was due to expire, after which he has
threatened a major escalation in strikes, including on Iran’s power
plants and bridges.Iran and Hezbollah continued their missile and rocket
attacks on Israeli cities Tuesday, repeatedly launching salvos that
caused blasts and damage throughout the country. In Nahariya in the
north, a woman in her 20s was lightly hurt following a Hezbollah rocket
strike, medics said. Two other people were treated for acute anxiety.
Some 10 rockets were fired from Lebanon in the attack, with at least one
striking a road, causing injuries along with damage to nearby cars and
homes.Another rocket strike in Meron wounded a 36-year-old man. The
Magen David Adom ambulance service said he was injured by shrapnel. A
home in the border city of Kiryat Shmona was also damaged by another
rocket fired from Lebanon, rescue services said.Hezbollah has been
barraging the north regularly with rocket attacks, sometimes in tandem
with ballistic missile attacks by Iran, which continued on Tuesday to
target Israel with cluster munitions that spread bomblets
indiscriminately across large areas.Iranian missile attacks with cluster
munitions targeted central Israel twice on Tuesday — once in the
morning, and once in the early afternoon — causing damage, though there
were no reports of direct injuries as a result of either attack. In the
morning, there were at least six impact sites, including in Tel Aviv,
Rosh Haayin, and Ramat Hasharon.Sirens also sounded in the Eilat area in
southern Israel in the morning, but that missile was assessed by the
IDF to have struck an open area.Another missile fired from Iran at
southern Israel in the afternoon was intercepted, according to the IDF. A
46-year-old man was lightly injured by falling fragments following the
interception, MDA said.Overnight, a ballistic missile attack targeted
Beersheba and the surrounding area in Israel’s south, following a lull
of about 12 hours since Iran’s last assault. No injuries or impacts were
reported as a result of the overnight attack.Iran also kept up its
attacks on Gulf neighbors, reportedly killing two people in Iraqi
Kurdistan, as well as targeting energy sites and prompting the temporary
closure of the only bridge connecting Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.IDF
warns Iranians: Don’t take trains before 9 p.m.The Israeli Air Force
said Tuesday afternoon that it had completed an “extensive” wave of
airstrikes in several areas of Iran, adding that the strikes had hit
dozens of Iranian regime infrastructure sites. An attack targeted a
bridge near the city of Qom, south of Tehran, the deputy governor of the
province said, according to state TV.The IDF had issued an unusual
“urgent warning” to Iranians earlier Tuesday not to travel by train

request that from this moment until 9 p.m. Iran time, you refrain from
using and traveling by train across Iran,” the IDF’s Persian-language
spokesman, Lt. Col. (res.) Kamal Penhasi, said in a statement.“Your
presence on trains and near railway lines puts your lives at risk,” he
added. On Monday, Defense Minister Israel Katz said the IDF had been
instructed to “continue striking with full force the national
infrastructure of the Iranian terror regime.”Trump had threatened on
Monday to strike all of Iran’s power plants and bridges, saying the
Islamic Republic had until 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday (3 a.m. Wednesday Israel
time, 3:30 a.m. Tehran time) to strike a deal.On Tuesday, the IDF
published new footage showing airstrikes on Iranian air defense systems,
of which more than 130 have been destroyed during the war, according to
the military. The IDF also confirmed having bombed another petrochemical
facility in Iran a day earlier, saying it was “one of the few remaining
facilities” used to manufacture materials for ballistic
missiles.Iranian media reported Monday that airstrikes hit the Marvdasht
Petrochemical Complex, near Shiraz. Hours earlier, the Israeli Air
Force bombed Iran’s largest petrochemical facility in Asaluyeh. In a
statement, the IDF said that the facility near Shiraz “was used by
Iran’s armed forces to produce nitric acid, a substance necessary for
manufacturing explosives and additional materials used in ballistic
missile development processes.”Iranian media reported that at least nine
people had been killed in the city of Shahriar, west of the capital. In
the city of Pardis, east of Tehran, at least six people were killed in a
strike and recovered from buildings, according to Iranian
reports.Khorramabad International Airport also came under attack

living in the country. Many fled during the 1979 Islamic Revolution. An
Israeli official told The Times of Israel that the Foreign Ministry was
looking into the reports. The Diaspora Affairs Ministry, in an internal
report, noted there were conflicting reports as to the circumstances of
the incident and as to whether the synagogue was damaged or completely
destroyed. The IDF did not immediately comment on the matter, but an
Israeli official told The Times of Israel off the record: “Israel
doesn’t target synagogues. Anyone claiming otherwise thinks you’re
gullible.”Iranian outlet Mehr News Agency says a Jewish synagogue in
central Tehran was badly damaged during US-Israeli airstrikes.

2026-IRGC urges parents to send kids to checkpoints amid strikes-A
Revolutionary Guards general in Iran urged parents on Tuesday to “send
your kids to man checkpoints.”Gen. Hossein Yekta, previously identified
as leading plainclothes units of the all-volunteer Basij force, made the
comments on an Iranian state television channel.“Moms, dads, take your
kids’ hands and go out on the streets,” he said. “Do you want your kid
to become a real man? Let him feel like a hero standing right at the
heart of the battlefield. Moms, dads, at night send your kids to man
checkpoints. They become men!”Basij checkpoints have been repeatedly
targeted in airstrikes. The IRGC has previously said that children as
young as 12 are being recruited to man those stations and to perform
other duties during the war.Hossein Yekta of Khamenei’s Academic Think

some even carry firearms, calling their recruitment a war crime.During
nationwide protests in January, Yekta warned parents to keep their
children home or they would be shot.Iran also called on “all young
people, athletes, artists, students, university students and their
professors” to form human chains around power plants ahead of threatened
strikes.“Power plants that are our national assets and capital,
regardless of any taste or political viewpoint, belong to the future of
Iran and to the Iranian youth,” Alireza Rahimi, identified by Iranian
state television as the secretary of the Supreme Council of Youth and
Adolescents, said as he issued the video call in a newscast.Iran has
formed human chains in the past around its nuclear sites at times of
heightened tensions with the West.Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian,
meanwhile, said he and 14 million Iranians have declared they will
“sacrifice their lives” to defend Iran.“More than 14 million brave

Syria military source says drones from Iraq targeted area near US base.
Damascus,
April 7 (AFP) Apr 07, 2026-A Syrian military source told AFP on Tuesday
that an overnight drone attack originating from Iraq targeted an area
in the country's northeast home to a base hosting US forces."The area
housing the Qasrak base was targeted with four drones," the source said,
requesting anonymity and referring to a location in Hasakeh
province. The United States for years has led a military coalition
fighting the Islamic State group in Syria, though US forces have
withdrawn from some bases in the country in recent months. The source
said the coalition intercepted three of the drones, while the fourth
"fell in an open area in the vicinity of the base", adding that they
were launched from Iraq.Iraq has been pulled into the war sparked by
US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28 and which has since engulfed
much of the Middle East.Pro-Tehran Iraqi groups have claimed
responsibility for attacks on US interests in Iraq and across the
region, while strikes have also targeted these groups. On March 30,
Syria's military said a large-scale drone attack targeted its bases near
the border with Iraq, the biggest such incident since the start of the
Middle East war.A day earlier, assistant defence minister for eastern
Syria, Sipan Hamo, said four drones from Iraq attacked the Qasrak base
but were intercepted. It was not immediately clear who had launched that
attack. Also late last month, Syria's army said it repelled another
drone attack from Iraq targeting southeast Syria's Al-Tanf base which
used to house US forces.Since the war erupted, Syrian President Ahmed
al-Sharaa has said he is working to keep his country out of any
conflict.
Israel military says completed forward deployment in south Lebanon.
Jerusalem,
April 7 (AFP) Apr 07, 2026-The Israeli military said on Tuesday it had
completed the deployment of ground troops along a "defence line" in
southern Lebanon, where it is fighting Iran-backed Hezbollah.A Lebanese
military source said the Israeli army had advanced to a depth of between
five and nine kilometres (between three and 5.5 miles) inside Lebanese
territory.Israel's military has not given any geographical details on
the furthest point to which its soldiers have advanced into
Lebanon.Israeli media reported that the military did not intend at this
stage to push troops deeper than around 20 kilometres north of the
border."At this stage, IDF soldiers have completed their deployment
along the anti-tank missile defence line and continue to operate in the
area in order to strengthen the forward defensive posture and remove
threats to the residents and communities of northern Israel," a military
statement said.Defence Minister Israel Katz has said on several
occasions in recent weeks that Israel intends to establish a "security
zone" in southern Lebanon extending to the Litani river, which flows as
much as 30 kilometres from the Israel-Lebanon border, in order to
prevent rocket, drone or missile fire at northern Israeli communities.-
'Preparing to boost its forces' -The Lebanese military source told AFP
on condition of anonymity that Israeli troops had advanced to a depth of
around nine kilometres in the coastal area, reaching the town of
Bayada. In the central sector of the border, troops have reached five
kilometres inside Lebanon, the source said.In the east, "the Israeli
army has reached a depth of seven kilometres", the source added, saying
that Israeli troops also controlled the strategic town of Khiam."Huge
explosions" have been heard from the area where Israeli troops have
invaded, the source said.Lebanon's army has withdrawn from these areas
in order to avoid a confrontation.A security source on the ground told
AFP that Israeli troops are now stationed at points overlooking areas
where they have advanced, including in Bayada.A statement from Hezbollah
said its fighters were clashing with Israeli troops on the eastern
outskirts of Bint Jbeil, which saw fierce fighting in previous wars. The
Israeli daily Yediot Aharonot reported that the military was expected to
present to the government "an operational plan for controlling the
first line of (Lebanese) villages as a deep security zone up to the
anti-tank line".Israeli newspaper Haaretz, citing military sources,
reported that the military was "preparing to boost its forces in
southern Lebanon, but there are currently no plans to advance deeper
into the country"."The sources said the forces have reached what has
been defined as the 'front line' outlined in the approved operational
plans," Haaretz reported, adding that "this line includes southern
villages located roughly 10 kilometres from the Litani river, an area
under Israeli military control".Haaretz also reported that the current
deployment was aimed at preventing anti-tank missile fire on northern
Israeli communities. These anti-tank missiles have an estimated range of
around 10 kilometres.
1 attacker killed, two hurt in gun battle
with police outside unstaffed Israeli consulate in Istanbul-Two wounded
assailants are brothers, who traveled from Izmit; one is associated with
terror group that ‘exploits religion,’ authorities say, in possible
allusion to ISIS By Agencies Today, 4:39 pm-APR 7,26
Three
assailants opened fire at police outside a building housing the Israeli
Consulate in Istanbul on Tuesday, sparking a gunfight that left one
attacker dead, Turkish officials said. The two other assailants were
injured and captured. The attack took place around 12:15 pm local time
(0915 GMT). Two police officers sustained slight injuries in the clash,
Istanbul Governor Davut Gul told reporters. The assailants were carrying
long-barreled weapons.The consulate is located in a high-rise building
in Levent, one of the city’s main business districts. It was not
immediately clear if the intended target was the empty Israeli
consulate.Israel withdrew its diplomats amid security concerns and
deteriorating relations with Turkey, soon after the October 7, 2023,
Hamas attack on Israel that triggered the Gaza war.Turkey recalled its
ambassador from Israel in November of that year. Diplomatic relations
have been effectively frozen since then, while Turkey has hosted Hamas
leaders, and its president frequently compares the Jewish state to Nazi
Germany. The two wounded assailants are brothers, identified as Onur C.
and Enes C. The first has a criminal record related to drugs. Both are

Commentary (@MOSSADil) April 7, 2026-Turkey’s Justice Minister Akin
Gurlek said three prosecutors, including a deputy chief prosecutor, have
been assigned to lead an investigation.Video circulating online showed
one assailant carrying what appeared to be an assault rifle, wearing a
brown backpack, and hiding behind a bus when exchanging fire with
police. A police officer falls to the ground, apparently having been
shot, and then rolls away to get behind a tree for cover.Interior
Minister Mustafa Ciftci said the brothers arrived in Istanbul by a
rental vehicle from Izmit, a city about 86 kilometers (50 miles) away,
and that one of the assailants was affiliated with an “organization that
exploits the region.”Turkish officials would not immediately reveal the
group, but Turkish media said it could be the Islamic State group
(ISIS), whose members clashed with Turkish police in Yalova — which lies
on the shores of the Sea of Marmara about 90 kilometers (55 miles)
southeast of Istanbul.ISIS fighters opened fire on police in Yalova in
December, killing three officers and wounding nine others. Turkish
police have since stepped up nationwide raids against ISIS operatives,
rounding up 125 suspects after that attack. The Turkish interior ministry
also confirmed that the two police officers who were shot were
“slightly injured,” one of them in the leg and the other in the
ear.Israel, US thank Turkey for ‘swift action in thwarting’ attack-In
Israel, the Foreign Ministry said it “strongly condemns the terrorist
attack” in Istanbul, and thanked Turkey for stopping the gunman.“We
appreciate the Turkish security forces’ swift action in thwarting this
attack,” said the ministry in a statement.“Israeli missions around the
world have been subjected to countless threats and terrorist attacks,”
it continued. “Terror will not deter us.”US Ambassador to Turkey Tom
Barrack responded to the attack on X, writing: “The United States
condemns in the strongest terms today’s attack on the Israeli Consulate
in Istanbul.”“Attacks on diplomatic missions are attacks on the
international order — and an assault on the principles that bind nations
together,” he added, while commending Turkey and Turkish security
forces for “their swift and decisive response.”Times of Israel staff

6 And you, O seacoast, shall be pastures, with meadows[c] for shepherds and folds for flocks.

DANIEL 2:37-45
37 Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory.
38
And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and
the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made
thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold.
39 And after
thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third
kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth.
40 And
the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh
in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these,
shall it break in pieces and bruise.
41 And whereas thou sawest the
feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom
shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron,
forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.
42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.
43
And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle
themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to
another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.
44 And in the days of
these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never
be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it
shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand
for ever.
45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of
the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the
brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known
to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is
certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.
DANIEL 7:17-26
17 These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth.
18 But the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.
19
Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was diverse from
all the others, exceeding dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his
nails of brass; which devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue
with his feet;
20 And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of
the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn
that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was
more stout than his fellows.
21 I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;
22
Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of
the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.
23
Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth,
which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole
earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.
24 And the
ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and
another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first,
and he shall subdue three kings.
25 And he shall speak great words
against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High,

Guyana brings digital ID act into force, launches nationwide rollout-Apr 2, 2026, 3:41 pm EDT | Lu-Hai Liang
Guyana’s
Digital Identity Card Act has officially come into force, with Prime
Minister Mark Phillips confirming the legislation took effect on
Tuesday. The Act paves the way for the nationwide rollout of a new
electronic identification system. Phillips said the government has
already met the foundational requirements set out in the Act.Phillips
emphasized that the digital ID system will streamline access to public
services and support a more secure, digitally connected Guyana. The eID
system sees Guyanese citizens receive a single identifier and complete
biometric verification supplied by Veridos. The Caribbean country has
also piloted a biometric teacher attendance system ahead of a nationwide
rollout. The Act mandates the government to appoint a Data Protection
Commissioner, establish a secure national database for citizens’
information, and implement systems to produce and issue digital ID
cards. Registry offices have begun operating across the country,
including in Region Two, where citizens can now apply for their
cards. The PM stressed that the initial enrollment process will rely on
information citizens have already provided to state agencies, reducing
the need for new data submissions. He added that privacy protections
will be strengthened once the Data Protection Act becomes fully
operational, at which point the government may request more sensitive
personal information under enhanced legal safeguards. However, the
digital ID rollout has drawn criticism from opposition members and civil
society groups, who argue that the absence of fully enacted data
protection laws leaves citizens vulnerable. The government has defended
the initiative, saying robust safeguards will be in place and noting
that foreign nationals residing in Guyana will also be required to
register so their movements can be monitored. The digital ID system will
also underpin new infrastructure at Cheddi Jagan International Airport
(CJIA), where the government plans to introduce an automated passenger
identification system to speed up processing for Guyanese
travelers.Public Utilities and Aviation Minister Deodat Indar said the
system will use facial recognition linked to the national eID database,
allowing citizens to pass through automated gates without interacting
with immigration officers.“We want when you come off the plane, you walk
straight through,” Indar said at the Women in Aviation Conference 2026,
according to Caribbean National Weekly. “The system must recognize that
you are a citizen.”The airport upgrade is part of Guyana’s ambitions to
be a regional aviation hub. CJIA is undergoing significant expansion,
with plans for a second terminal already in motion. Guyana now hosts 16
airlines — up from four in 2020 — and expects more carriers to enter the
market following recent outreach in Brazil.
Healthcare
digitization push in Germany looks to digital ID via EUDI Wallet-Phased
approach to verification starts with eCard, adds EU wallet option in
2027-Apr 7, 2026, 3:00 am EDT | Joel R. McConvey
Germany’s
digital transformation efforts are prioritizing enhancements to the
electronic patient record (ePA), which will require strong digital
identity verification.Heise Online has coverage of a draft document from
the Federal Ministry of Health, which says “insured individuals will
not only be able to manage health data via the ePA apps in the future,
but will also be more easily directed to outpatient care,” including
standardized initial assessments and appointment booking. The so-called
“digital entry into care,” which will put patients into the pipeline
starting with the assessment and enable subsequent bookings through a
centralized interface, requires the insured to have a digital identity
in the form of a Health ID. To facilitate that, the health ministry will
enable insurance companies to offer insured persons secure
identification via the eID card option with corresponding electronic
residence permits, and, starting on January 2, 2027, through the EUDI
Wallet.Per Heise, from December 1, 2028, it will then serve in
healthcare “in the same way as the electronic health card” for
authentication and as proof of insurance.Researchers, health insurers to
have more access to data-Germany’s planned Act on Data and Digital
Innovation in Healthcare aims to structure a digital strategy for the
healthcare and nursing sectors. Part of that vision is that the ePA
should become a central hub for all those with health insurance,
governed by strict requirements around data protection, information
security, accessibility, and non-discriminatory access. Commercial
exploitation of the tool will be “expressly excluded.”That said, data
protections are in place in part to enable more extensive use of data in
care, research and innovation. The ministry reportedly wants to give
health insurance companies “more leeway for new data-driven
applications” under a new experimental clause that allows for the
establishment of labs to study innovative uses for personal data.
Developments on AI are also within the scope of data processing for
medical, rehabilitation and nursing research. “This could include
applications for diagnostic support, such as evaluating X-ray images,
systems for therapy recommendations, AI for evaluating patient data, and
general decision support systems for doctors.”Federal Minister of
Health Nina Warken says AI should “be used where it increases the
quality of treatment, relieves the burden of documentation, or supports
communication.”Gematik to serve as de facto provider for
digitization-The draft also allocates a more power and a larger role to
Gematik, or Gesellschaft für Telematikanwendungen der Gesundheitskarte
mbH, the German national agency for the digitalization of the healthcare
system.“The Gesellschaft für Telematik is to successively take on a
steering role as a so-called provider,” it says. “In particular for
components, services, and applications that form the backbone of digital
healthcare, the steering of selected service providers and strong
enforcement competence of the Gesellschaft für Telematik are
essential.”Gematik approved remote identity verification for digital
healthcare services with Nect biometrics near the end of 2025.
Sri Lanka plans 100% digital government transactions within 4 years-Apr 7, 2026, 2:00 am EDT | Duruthu Edirimuni Chandrasekera
The
Government of Sri Lanka aims to digitize all government transactions by
2030, driven by the Ministry of Digital Economy with public-private
partnerships to facilitate the transition. Digital payments are one of
the three generally-recognized pillars of digital public infrastructure
(DPI), along with digital identity and data exchange systems. In this
light, the launch of the “Access Unlocked V2.0” digital payments
program, organized by Mastercard, will feature innovative technologies
such as Mastercard Soundbox and Softbots, enabling low-cost, digital
payment acceptance for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) at this
event, marking their debut in South Asia. These tools, powered by
Mastercard Merchant Cloud, allow small business owners to accept
payments affordably, thereby promoting the digital transformation of Sri
Lanka’s economy.Mastercard SoundBox provides instant voice confirmation
for digital payments, enabling replacing SMS notification checks with
real-time transaction verification for busy retailers. It supports
multiple payment methods such as NFC, UPI, Bharat QR, and digital
wallets.Mastercard SoftPOS (Software Point of Sale), often branded as
Tap on Phone, transforms NFC-enabled Android smartphones or tablets into
secure contactless payment terminals. It allows merchants to accept
cards, mobile wallets, or wearable payments directly on their mobile
device without requiring traditional, dedicated card reader hardware. The
event attended by Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne
highlighted the importance of low-cost digital payment solutions for
small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to enhance financial
inclusion.“The collaboration between the government and the private
sector is crucial for empowering businesses and fostering sustainable
economic growth,” Weeraratne says. “The government is committed to
enhancing transparency through digital technology and integrating Sri
Lanka into the global market, ensuring that all entrepreneurs can
benefit from the burgeoning digital economy.”Weeraratne confirmed just
over a month ago that Sri Lanka’s biometric digital ID, the SL-UDI, will
roll out by the end of this year as part of the government’s effort to
digitalize public services.Sri Lanka will push for 100 percent digital
transactions in government by 2030, and a $15 billion digital economy.
The Ministry of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development will be
driving the change enabled by the digital economy ministry with strong
private-public partnerships, Chathuranga Abeysinghe, deputy minister of
Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, said at the gathering. The
2030 strategy features several key projects led by the Information and
Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), including the GovPay Platform,
which will facilitate electronic payments for government services. It is
projected to process over 2 billion Sri Lankan rupees (roughly US$21.5
million) in transactions by 2025. There are initiatives for sectoral
digitization in agriculture, tourism, and logistics to enhance
productivity, alongside plans for the National Transport Commission to
implement electronic payment systems for public buses to minimize cash
transactions.
Accura Scan pitches no-cost KYC ‘forever’ with biometric SaaS platform-Apr 6, 2026, 4:06 pm EDT | Chris Burt
Mumbai-based
Accura Scan has launched what it calls a next-generation biometric
identity verification platform to enable businesses around the world to
simplify and speed up digital onboarding. The descriptive product name
“ABIS — Free KYC Forever” also indicates Accura Scan’s unusual business
model for the SaaS platform, which includes free unlimited checks with
no expiry. The company says in an announcement the platform provides
instant identity verifications without the constraints of
per-transaction billing or complex integrations. The new Accura Scan’s
ABIS – Free KYC Forever includes ID document scans with OCR, selfie
biometrics and liveness detection, document liveness and tampering
checks and a centralized client portal.“ABIS – Free KYC Forever is
designed to remove the cost and complexity barriers associated with
digital identity verification,” says Yasin Patel, CEO of Accura Scan.
“Our goal is to make biometric KYC accessible to businesses of all
sizes, from startups to enterprises.”The company says businesses can
embed the service into their websites or mobile applications through QR
codes to make remote user onboarding seamless and frictionless at
scale.Accura Scan is trying to position the service as “a global
identity infrastructure platform,” according to the
announcement.Presumably, the business play is to charge for
authentication using data collected during onboarding. Biometric Update
has reached out to Accura Scan for further detail. The global market for
IDV is on track to be worth more than $18.9 billion by 2027, as forecast
in the 2025 Digital Identity Verification Market Report and Buyers
Guide from Biometric Update and Goode Intelligence.
Moldova integrating national digital ID with public, private sector services-Apr 6, 2026, 3:18 pm EDT | Masha Borak
Moldova
has invited public and private sector service providers to integrate
its national digital identity wallet EVO.The Eastern European country’s
eGovernance Agency (AGE) invited representatives from public
institutions, financial services, and tech companies to a working
session last week, presenting the wallet’s technical architecture and
interoperability framework. The agency also introduced the verification
tool developed for the financial sector, as well as the next version of
the app, EVO 2.0.Currently available credentials include digital ID
cards, driving licenses, and vehicle registration certificates, while
the country is also planning to include residence permits, civil status
records, passports and proof of residence. The eGovernance Agency plans
to present initial verification scenarios in June. That same month, the
capital of Chișinău will host the Moldova Digital Summit 2026, where
participants will have the chance to test the EVO digital ID
wallet.Remote onboarding will be available in August this year, while
Remote Qualified Electronic Signature (rQeS) and EU certification are
expected in 2027, the agency says in a LinkedIn post.EVO was launched in
2024 with support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
In January this year, the country also launched the EVO government
services portal, which currently offers 600 services from over 60
institutions and organizations.Moldova is planning to digitize all
government-to-citizen (G2C) and government-to-business (G2B) services by
2030. To align its regulation with the EUDI Wallet rules, the EU
candidate state has enlisted the help of Estonian software company
Cybernetica.Romania looks to Moldova for digital ID
inspiration-Moldova’s EVO app may become an inspiration for Romania’s
digital identity wallet, according to the former’s eGovernance Agency.
Last week, a Romanian delegation of senior government officials visited
Chișinău to learn more about EVO, the government interoperability
platform MConnect and eGov4Dev, its unified digital development
platform.“The experience shared here shows us how to build digital
services from the ground up without losing sight of people,” Mădălina
Marcu, Romania’s state secretary for digitalization, said in a
statement, according to Radio Moldova.Romania slashed the funding it had
earmarked to distribute free electronic ID cards last year, a move that
risked censure or even fines from the EU for failing to meet its
commitments. In a separate move, the Romanian government said that it is
considering issuing electronic identity cards to Romanian citizens
living in Moldova. The announcement comes after Romania introduced
legislative changes in 2023 that prevented more than 10 people from
registering at the same address unless they are members of an extended
family. The new rules led to the cancellation of over 162,000 identity
cards at the end of 2025, mostly affecting Romanian citizens born in
Moldova. The government is taking the issue seriously and has put forward
a series of measures that it will likely begin implementing this month,
according to Eugen Tomac, an advisor in the Romanian Presidential
Administration. Among the proposed solutions is issuing new eIDs that
indicate residency in Moldova.
Scammers take advantage of Austrian digital ID certificates’ expiry-Apr 6, 2026, 2:03 pm EDT | Masha Borak
Around
300,000 Austrian digital ID certificates for public services are due to
expire this year and scammers are exploiting uncertainty around the
process. The first fraud cases were recorded by police in the western
state of Vorarlberg, with two resulting in financial losses in the
five-figure range.Users of ID Austria have been receiving fake text
messages purporting to be from the Federal Ministry of Finance urging
them to update their information and directing them to phishing links.
After entering their personal data, the victims were contacted by
unknown perpetrators by phone, who persuaded them to install
remote-access software.Once the perpetrators gained access, they were
able to access the victims’ bank accounts without authorization and
carry out transactions, according to police spokesperson Fabian
Marchetti. The police have advised carefully verifying any emails or
text messages requesting the renewal of ID Austria, according to
Austria’s public broadcaster ORF.“Under no circumstances should you
allow remote access to your own computer,” says Marchetti.ID Austria
allows users to access government services, including those from the
Ministry of Finance and social security. The electronic identity system
has previously come under criticism for its complicated interface and
performance issues, while organizations such as Vienna-based digital
rights group Epicenter.Works say that the scheme is outdated.“The
existing ID Austria was designed in 2017 and is based on outdated
standards,” the group said in a statement last month. “Data
protection-friendly innovations are lacking, and these are precisely
what is essential for secure online use.”Last year, the country
announced a relaunch of the Austria ID system to create a “more
user-friendly and simpler” service.Meanwhile, Austria has also launched a
new digital ID wallet called eAusweise, which supports mobile driver’s
licenses (mDL) and other certificates.
ENISA invites feedback for EU Digital Identity Wallet cybersecurity certification-Apr 6, 2026, 1:21 pm EDT | Masha Borak
The
European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) has launched a public
consultation on a draft cybersecurity certification scheme for European
Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallets and electronic identities. The
publication covers certification of the cybersecurity of cloud services
in accordance with the EU’s Cybersecurity Act. It is designed to ensure
that digital ID wallets operate securely and uniformly across EU member
states. The consultation seeks feedback on the scheme’s principles,
structure and proposed elements, with responses due by April 30th, 2026.
ENISA will hold a webinar on the draft document on April 8th at 3 PM
CEST.EUDI Wallets will also be the topic of the upcoming 2026 European
Cybersecurity Certification Conference, scheduled for April 15th, 2026,
in Cyprus.ENISA was tasked by the European Commission to develop the
certification scheme in 2024 through an Ad Hoc Working Group. In
February this year, the agency signed a two-year agreement worth 1.6
million euros (US$1.8 million) to support national EUDI Wallet
certification schemes in EU member states.Last year, the organization
also held the 11th Trust Services and eID Forum in Split, Croatia, which
discussed the details of EUDI Wallet implementation and the challenges
of cybersecurity certifications.Digital rights group identifies 5
privacy problems in EUDI Wallet-EU countries are required to have at
least one certified EUDI Wallet by the end of 2026. Not everyone,
however, is satisfied with the privacy safeguards introduced in the
upcoming digital IDs.Austria-based digital rights group Epicenter.Works
says it has identified five data privacy concerns in the EUDI Wallet’s
technical proposals, among which the most pressing are those related to
biometrics. The organization also says that many private representatives
have explicitly praised the EU Commission for its efforts to weaken
data protection. The European Commission has proposed including a
mandatory biometric photo in the minimum data set that every EUDI wallet
must contain. This, however, could mean that every time a person uses
their digital ID wallet, whether for age verification, ordering books,
or signing contracts, a facial image could potentially be
transmitted.“During the trilogue negotiations on the eIDAS Regulation, a
clause explicitly intended to protect users from biometric processing
was expressly removed from the text. The Commission now appears poised
to introduce mandatory biometrics via an implementing act – thereby
completely bypassing Parliament,” says the organization, which operates
under the umbrella of European Digital Rights (EDRi).Other issues
include loopholes in registration certificates that allow for excessive
data requests and weakened pseudonymity rights, enabling excessive
identification. The current draft also makes certificates that allow the
wallet to detect impermissible data requests optional rather than
mandatory. Finally, the group says that current technical specifications
allow existing passkey solutions, such as Google Passkeys or iCloud
Keychain, to be used as a substitute for true EUDI wallet
integration.“This means we’re stuck with the same proprietary options
as before, while the regulation gives the impression of having solved
the problem,” it says.
Digital identity research warns of
‘password debt’ as enterprises delay IAM rollouts-Hypr, RSA, Cisco
explore passwordless adoption, standards alignment-Apr 6, 2026, 1:18 pm
EDT | Lu-Hai Liang
Enterprises may be sharpening their
understanding of digital identity threats but the industry is still
struggling to turn that knowledge into large‑scale execution. Hypr’s
latest State of Passwordless Identity Assurance report shows
passwordless and identity verification deployments stalling. RSA has
been testing its own passwordless strategy internally, uncovering the
hidden dependencies that still tether organizations to passwords. And in
the public sector, Cisco Duo is positioning its zero‑trust platform as a
way for agencies to align with new NIST cybersecurity
standards.Passwordless hits a plateau-Enterprises are getting to grips
with identity threats and phishing‑resistant authentication, but scaling
passwordless and digital identity verification technologies remains
slow. That’s the conclusion from the sixth annual State of Passwordless
Identity Assurance report from Hypr and 451 Research from S&P Global
Energy Horizons. The study finds that organizations have gained a deeper
grasp of identity‑security concepts but adoption has plateaued after
last year’s surge. Passwordless deployments remain limited to specific
user groups and isolated use cases rather than broader rollouts.
Identity verification shows a similar pattern as IDV is widely
recognised but still deployed narrowly.Researchers attribute the
slowdown to cost pressures and legacy-system compatibility issues.
Regulatory uncertainty and the complexity of scaling identity
transformation across an entire organization adds to the hesitancy. This
comes even as many enterprises understand that securing identity means
protecting every touchpoint.Despite improved literacy around
phishing‑resistant authentication, the report shows that usernames and
passwords remain dominant for 76 percent of respondents. Only 43 percent
report using passwordless methods, and year‑over‑year adoption has
remained flat. Many apps and devices still lack support for FIDO2,
WebAuthn and other passwordless standards, with 32 percent citing
legacy‑app incompatibility as a key obstacle.IDV remains the second
most‑deployed identity tool and a common response to breaches, but its
use is concentrated in limited scenarios. Responsibility for workforce
identity verification is fragmented across HR, IT, IAM and security
teams, which is slowing progress toward unified, automated
orchestration. The report shows growing concern over generative and
agentic AI, which are amplifying existing threats such as phishing and
ransomware while enabling new attack types including deepfakes and
employee‑impersonation fraud. The report notes that breaches continue to
drive reactive spending. Increased security budgets (59 percent) were
the most common post‑incident response, followed by audits, training and
stronger authentication. Organizations typically rush to deploy IDV (61
percent), multi-factor authentication (MFA) (57 percent) and identity
threat detection tools (52 percent) after an attack. It’s a pattern the
report describes as “panic buying.”Hypr and 451 Research argue that the
industry is entering an “Age of Industrialization,” where the greater
challenge lies in operationalizing digital identity security at scale.
Enterprises face a growing “password debt” with legacy credentials and
fragmented controls, which attackers continue to exploit. Progress will
depend on coordinated, organization‑wide execution. The State of
Passwordless Identity Assurance 2026 report can be read here.RSA maps
out passwordless strategy after experiment-RSA did some
self‑experimentation as it put its own passwordless strategy to the
test. As a company that sells authentication technology, RSA set out to
answer a simple question — does it actually use what it
builds?Leadership set an internal goal of achieving 100 percent
passwordless authentication across its global workforce. The aim was
twofold. RSA wanted to reduce credential‑based risk inside the
organization, and experience the same deployment challenges faced by
enterprise customers rolling out passwordless and FIDO‑based
authentication at scale.RSA has a globally distributed workforce, hybrid
infrastructure and a mix of cloud and on‑premises systems. The company
deployed its own IAM platform, RSA ID Plus, which supports passwordless
MFA, SSO and access controls. The platform itself performed as expected,
the friction occurred in the surrounding identity ecosystem. RSA found
hidden dependencies that continued to default certain workflows back to
passwords. These surfaced across identity‑lifecycle touchpoints such as
device replacement, account recovery and access to legacy
applications.RSA then identified and removed these password‑based
fallbacks, clearing the path for true passwordless operation across all
users and environments. The company says the exercise revealed the
hardest part of going passwordless is not the authenticator. Instead
it’s the legacy assumptions, infrastructure gaps and operational
workflows that still rely on passwords. RSA charted its own workforce
rollout as a journey that “moved through three meaningful shifts,”
sharing its learnings as a structured path.RSA’s report on its
passwordless experience “Inside RSA: Deploying FIDO and Passwordless
Solutions at Scale” can be downloaded here.Cisco Duo takes aim beyond
MFA-Cisco Duo is making moves in public sector cybersecurity as agencies
align identity systems with the updated NIST Cybersecurity Framework
2.0 and NIST SP 800‑53 controls.Cisco says its zero‑trust,
phishing‑resistant IAM platform is a way for government organizations to
strengthen authentication and device trust, along with compliance
requirements.Cisco Duo is designed to provide multi‑factor and
passwordless authentication. But it also goes beyond multi-factor
authorization, according to a company blog post, by conducting
device‑health checks and enforcing adaptive access policies that block
credential‑based attacks.The platform also supports FIDO2, biometrics,
hardware tokens and push‑based authentication, alongside single sign‑on
and continuous behavioural monitoring. Its device‑visibility features
assess operating systems and security agents, as well as compliance
status, before granting access. The company says the capabilities map
the identity, access control and device‑security requirements outlined
in NIST CSF 2.0.The updated framework from 2024 has a “Govern” function
and places stronger emphasis on supply‑chain risk and enterprise‑wide
cybersecurity governance. Duo’s zero‑trust model aligns with the
framework’s expanded focus on identity management, threat detection and
resilience.iProov has an explainer on why NIST rewrote the rules (hint:
the threat landscape changed), and a breakdown of Special Publication
800-63-4 and its “fundamental rethink” of secure digital identity, in a
detailed post.As for Cisco Duo, it also aligns with NIST SP 800‑53,
which is the federal catalogue of more than 1,000 security and privacy
controls used across government systems and regulated industries. The
framework underpins compliance regimes such as FedRAMP, HIPAA and FISMA,
and is central to achieving an Approval to Operate (ATO) for federal
systems.Duo’s authentication, device trust and continuous monitoring
features support several of the control families including access
control, system protection and incident response. More on Cisco Duo can

Ryanair boss calls EES ‘a s***show’
with full biometrics check launch days away-Portuguese officials tell
Biometric Update no additional disruptions expected-Apr 6, 2026, 11:59
am EDT | Masha Borak
With just four days until the scheduled full
rollout on April 10, Europe’s Entry-Exit System (EES) is causing
anxiety in the air travel industry, with the UK confirming that
biometric border checks will not be rolled out on time.Michael O’Leary,
the CEO of Ryanair, said last Friday that “significant disruption” has
been seen at airport passport control, where the system is already in
place. Additional delays have been caused by understaffed immigration
kiosks, while passengers who had already registered for EES had to wait
in the same queues as everyone else.“EES has just been a s*** show and a
shambles,” O’Leary told The Times. The EU has allowed countries to
partially suspend EES operations where necessary during an additional
90-day period after the launch, with a possible 60-day extension to
cover the summer peak. States should take advantage of the suspension
options, he notes.Smaller airports, including Seville, Alicante,
Tenerife and Faro, are most likely to be impacted by delays, he
adds.Together with its subsidiaries, Ryanair forms Europe’s largest
airline group, carrying upwards of 200 million passengers last year.
Other airlines are also feeling the squeeze of EES deadlines.Last week,
European industry organizations Airlines for Europe (A4E) and Airports
Council International reiterated their call to the European Commission
to allow full or partial suspensions of the EES during the 2026 summer
season.“Data collected from airports across Europe shows a continued
deterioration in waiting times at border crossing points located in
airports,” they say. “Waiting times are now regularly reaching up to two
hours at peak traffic times.”If the technical and operational issues
with EES are not resolved, the EU should remain flexible during future
peak travel periods, such as winter 2026/2027, the organizations
argue.Delays continue at Eurotunnel and Port of Dover-Last Saturday, UK
ports again confirmed that British travelers to France taking the
Channel routes will not have to undergo biometric border checks for the
next few weeks.Eurotunnel announced that it would start creating EES
files with the French border police on April 10th, but the stage will
not involve the collection of biometric data, the Guardian reports. The
delay was first announced earlier last week, when the Port of Dover
shared that the French side is experiencing technology issues.During his
interview with The Times, O’Leary also blamed Brexit for long queues
for British travelers to Europe.“There’s a bit of Brexit in this, too.
Here, you voted for Brexit – f*****g join the queue,” he says.Other
countries, however, seem to be less threatened by the rollout. In an
email to Biometric Update, the Portuguese Homeland Security System
(Sistema de Segurança Interna) said that no additional disruptions are
expected as a result of the EES launch.“However, as we are entering the
peak travel season, we recommend that passengers allow more time for
connections within Europe and make use of the available electronic
systems and equipment to help streamline border control procedures,” it
says.EES caught 600 people posing security risks: EU-Despite anxiousness
in the travel industry, the EU has been showing its evidence for why a
biometric border system is necessary.Since the launch of the EES in
October 2025, the system has helped identify over 600 people who posed a
security risk to Europe, according to data released by the European
Commission on March 30th.“They were refused entry and recorded in the
system,” says the notice. “As a result, if they attempt to enter another
European country using the system, border authorities will be able to
see their previous refusal of entry.”Schengen countries have also
flagged multiple cases of identity fraud at borders. In a recent
Romanian case, biometric data revealed a traveler who was using two
separate identities with different documents. The person had already
been denied entry to the Schengen area three times by different member
states. The EES has so far registered over 45 million border crossings.
Over 24,000 people had been refused entry for different reasons,
including expired or fraudulent documents.
Kenya clarifies biometric re enrollment rules for previously registered voters-Apr 6, 2026, 11:28 am EDT | Lu-Hai Liang
Kenya’s
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has sought to
quell public confusion with a clarification on whether voters need to
re-enrol their biometrics. The clarification follows widespread concern
after earlier IEBC messaging suggested that all voters registered prior
to 2012 needed to re‑register. The IEBC launched a Continuous Voter
Registration exercise last September, hoping to add more than 6 million
people to the roll and introduce iris biometrics. The IEBC oversaw a
transition to a digital system in 2012. Apparently, some voters never
completed biometric registration during that changeover. The commission
has now confirmed that only that segment of voters must register
again. In other words, the requirement applies solely to individuals
whose details exist only in the former manual register and were never
captured in the biometric Register of Voters (RoV).Biometric voter
registration was introduced in 2012 following the 2010 Constitution and
the Elections Act, replacing the legacy paper‑based system. Records
created before that shift do not contain biometric identifiers unless
citizens presented themselves for fresh biometric capture.“Individuals
who had previously enrolled as voters before 2012 are not part of the
current biometric RoV unless they subsequently presented themselves for
fresh registration,” the IEBC said, as reported by Citizen TCV Kenya.
“Such persons are, therefore, required to register afresh in order to be
included in the current biometric register.”The biometric register has
been in continuous use since 2013 and contained more than 22 million
verified voters by the 2022 General Election. The IEBC maintains that
the database remains accurate, audited and credible. The clarification
comes during the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise,
running until April 28 across all 1,450 County Assembly Wards, higher
education institutions and constituency offices. As of April 2 the IEBC
had recorded 344,316 new registrations, 18,610 transfers and 329
updates, according to The Eastleigh Voice.IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung
Ethekon stressed that voters do not need to travel to their home
counties to register. Open registration kits have been deployed
nationwide, with biometric verification preventing duplicate or
unauthorized enrolments. The clarification is aimed at a relatively small
group of voters who missed the 2012 biometric capture and have not
registered since. However, the initial communication triggered concerns
that older biometric data had been deleted or invalidated, which
concerns the IEBC has sought to dismiss. The commission is urging all
eligible Kenyans, particularly first‑time voters and those registered
before 2012, to complete the process before the April deadline. After
that, registration will revert to constituency offices. For the IEBC,
ensuring that all voters are included in the biometric RoV is essential
for the health of Kenya’s electoral system ahead of the 2027 General
Election.Meanwhile, data protection related to digital ID continues to
evolve in Kenya following a high court ruling that recognizes phone
numbers as a person’s digital identifier. According to the ruling, the
government should introduce a regulatory framework to protect phone
numbers linked to people’s personal data within a period of six months.
EU
Cyber Resilience Act reshapes biometric access systems-Apr 6, 2026,
2:00 am EDT | Eduard de Knegt By Eduard de Knegt, CTO at Recogtech
The
European Union’s Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) is often described as a
compliance framework. In reality, it is far more disruptive. It
challenges how digital products are designed at a fundamental level. For
biometric access control systems, this shift is particularly
significant. These systems operate at the intersection of digital
identity and physical security, yet many have been built with
architectures that prioritise functionality, connectivity and
integration over structural resilience. Under the CRA, that balance
changes.Cybersecurity is no longer an additional layer or feature. It
becomes an intrinsic property of the product itself, embedded in its
design, update mechanisms and vulnerability management throughout the
entire lifecycle. Architectural decisions are no longer neutral. They
directly determine both risk exposure and regulatory alignment.Choices
around cloud reliance, remote management and network connectivity now
carry structural consequences.A deeper tension underlies many current
system designs. For years, the industry has moved toward increasing
visibility and control: centralised management platforms, extensive
logging, remote configuration and continuous monitoring have become
standard practice. From an operational perspective, this makes
sense. From a cybersecurity perspective, however, the logic is
fundamentally different. In practice, many systems are still designed in
ways that directly contradict these principles.Every additional
interface, service or remote capability expands the attack surface.
Systems designed to be continuously accessible, configurable and
observable from external environments inherently introduce more entry
points. Under the principles of the CRA, this creates a structural
conflict: what improves manageability often increases exposure. This is
particularly relevant in biometric systems, where architectures
frequently rely on licensing mechanisms, database management and remote
service layers. In such models, parts of the system remain dependent,
directly or indirectly, on external control. In many cases, this
complexity only becomes visible once systems are deployed and operated
over time. These dependencies, whether in update channels, configuration
interfaces or backend services, introduce implicit trust that is
difficult to fully secure. As regulatory expectations evolve, this raises
a critical question: how much external control should a system actually
allow? Designing for resilience increasingly means limiting that
control. Reducing external dependencies, minimising service layers and
restricting remote access are not constraints, but deliberate security
choices. In this model, the absence of control becomes a feature: fewer
interfaces, fewer connections and fewer opportunities for
interference. For manufacturers, this has far-reaching consequences. It
challenges established practices around monitoring, remote management
and update distribution. Systems that depend on continuous external
access or intervention may need to be fundamentally reconsidered. In this
sense, the CRA does not simply introduce new requirements, but also
forces a shift in design philosophy. From systems that are always
reachable and manageable, to systems that are deliberately constrained,
predictable and self-contained.By contrast, systems designed with
limited external dependencies, local decision-making and tightly
controlled update mechanisms align more naturally with the direction of
the CRA. Reducing the number of external interfaces and maintaining
strict control over how and when updates are applied is not just a
technical preference. It becomes a strategic requirement.Despite this,
the practical impact of the CRA is still widely underestimated. Across
the industry, similar questions continue to surface.A common point of
confusion is who is actually required to comply. The CRA primarily
targets manufacturers of products with digital elements placed on the EU
market, including providers of access control systems, controllers and
embedded solutions. The formal obligation sits with the
manufacturer. However, the implications extend much further. Integrators,
distributors and end users are increasingly affected, particularly in
environments where cybersecurity requirements are expanding through
frameworks such as NIS2. Even organisations without a direct regulatory
obligation are beginning to reassess suppliers based on cyber risk and
architectural maturity. This leads to a more fundamental question: how
can organisations determine whether a system is prepared for the CRA? In
practice, this is not about checking for a label or certification. It
is about understanding how a system is built, and what that design
exposes.
