Bush rejected his advice in 2007 to bomb a suspected nuclear reactor site at al-Kibar in Syria, and that he was a lone voice for military action against the country.According to Cheney, other advisers were reluctant because of the bad intelligence we had received about Iraq's stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction before the 2003 invasion of that country.Ultimately, it was Israel who bombed the Dair Alzour complex at al-Kibar on 6 September 2007. The following year International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) officials confirmed the nature of the al-Kibar site when they reported, significant natural uranium particles of anthropogenic origin.According to the IAEA, Imagery taken prior to and immediately after the bombing indicates that the destroyed box-shaped building may have had underground levels. Its containment structure appears to have been similar in dimension and layout to that required for a biological shield for nuclear reactors, and the overall size of the building was sufficient to house the equipment needed for a nuclear reactor of the type alleged.
US intelligence officials noted the Syrian site was an approximate copy of the unique North Korean nuclear site at Yongbyon at the time, saying they measured the footprint of the Yongbyon reactor building and compared it to that of the suspected reactor building in Syria and found the two footprints were approximately the same.

A Viable Threat

In his interview with Newsmax, the former vice president referred to the 10th year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, saying I still worry more than anything else really about the possibility of a group of terrorists acquiring really deadly capabilities.When we got hit on 9/11 there were 19 guys armed with airline tickets and box cutters. The next time around I worry they may have a nuclear device or biological agent of some kind and would be in a position to inflict far greater damage and loss of lives than anything we experienced on 9/11. Just one week before the Palestinian Authority submits its bid for unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state at the United Nations, PA factions are divided over the bid.According to a report by the Bethlehem-based Ma'an news agency on Monday, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) has announced its support for the UN campaign while the Hamas terror group, which controls the Gaza Strip, does not support it.We support the Palestinian leadership's plan to go to the UN because that is a natural right of the Palestinians and part of the political battle against Israeli occupation, Ma'an quoted Kayid Al-Ghoul, a member of the PFLP's politburo, as having said.Regardless of the outcome, this step should be part of the political battle we fight against occupation, Al-Ghoul added.It will also be an opportunity to enlarge the circle of solidarity with the Palestinian people's rights, and to expose Israel's policies and the supportive U.S. policy.Al-Ghoul also expressed concern that PA officials have referred to the possibility of canceling the UN bid if they received new offers to resume peace negotiations with Israel.He said that canceling the bid would harm the PA's position and create political rivalry, adding that a cancelation would suggest the whole campaign was just a tactic aimed at returning to negotiations.

Ma'an noted that another group which supports the UN bid is the Palestinian National Initiative, whose secretary-general Mustafa Barghouti told reporters on Saturday that the UN bid is the last option for two states.The time has come for an alternative. There is no space or place for talks, Barghouti said. We won't be slaves to apartheid for the rest of our lives. If South Sudan could get statehood in 48 hours, then Palestinians should get it.The report noted, however, that Hamas does not support the bid for UN recognition, saying it is a unilateral move by PA President Mahmoud Abbas.Hamas official Musheer Al-Masri was quoted by Ma'an as saying the bid is an individual step taken by President Abbas without consulting any faction, while Hamas co-founder Mahmoud al-Zahar said the Gaza Strip has been left out of the campaign.Nobody has asked the people in Gaza to take to the streets showing solidarity with the so-called September bid,a-Zahar was quoted as saying. If the Palestinian Authority calls for that, we will oppose it because they detain people in the West Bank. How can I give them the right to demonstrate in Gaza, while they do not give us that right in the West Bank? Ma'an noted that the Islamic Jihad terror group has also criticized the PA for launching the bid unilaterally.This move needs to be studied to make sure it will not ignore major issues such as the right of return, and the future of the Palestine Liberation Organization as an umbrella for the whole Palestinian people,Islamic Jihad spokesman Dawood Shihab was quoted as having said.Shibab added that his group had reservations toward the UN bid and said that a state could not be announced under occupation.Meanwhile, Russia announced on Monday it will support the PA in its bid for recognition as a new country by the UN.

Russian Ambassador to the U.N. Vitaly Churkin made the announcement in an interview Monday with the Interfax news agency, according to AFP. We will, of course, be voting for any of the Palestinians' proposals. But I must say that we are not pushing them into it, Churkin added.We are saying that Whatever you decide to do, we will support you.The clarification of Russia's stance comes in direct opposition to that of the United States, which said last week it will exercise its veto in the UN Security Council to oppose PA statehood.Meanwhile, Germany sent its foreign minister to Ramallah on Sunday, in a last-ditch effort to convince Abbas that the statehood bid is a bad idea.

Arabs living in the Palestinian Authority do not recognize themselves as a people seeking a nation.Nor does the Arab world, which in general, also does not view the Palestinian Authority as a nation.Nationhood requires a common need to exist, usually based on culture or a land mass. The only nation in the world based on religion as well as land, is Israel.The common thread uniting Palestinian Authority Arabs is the wish to destroy the State of Israel, but even that is not shared by Arabs outside circles of terrorists, academics and politicians.Land and a sense of a common particular background certainly do not unite Palestinian Authority Arabs.That is why the idea of land swaps – swapping Israel Arab population centers for Jewish population centers in Judea and Samaria – is one of the most egregious ideas since Barack Obama decided to run for president.Has the man and his advisers ever asked an Israeli Arab if Palestinian nationality excites him so much that he would give up Israel’s democracy and social services in favor of being subject to the Palestinian Authority, where bribery is the law, corruption is institutionalized and democracy was a one-night stand that catapulted Hamas into control of the legislature? Arab intellectuals and academis rant for nationhood, but where are the people when protest rallies are called? The weekly demonstrations against the Apartheid fence draw more Israeli leftists and foreign anarchists than Arabs, outside of those paid by European and left-wing funds to join rallies.Palestinian Authority Arabs have more political independence under Israeli sovereignty than Egyptians did under Mubarak and still do not have under the rule of the military regime that followed his ousting.Most Arabs in the Palestinian Authority do not march for independence and couldn’t care less.They remember how they stagnated under Jordanian rule from 1949 until 1967 and how their economy grew under Israeli sovereignty and how it suffered when Yasser Arafat’s gang surfaced.They did not even think of desiring a nation then – until Egyptian-born Yasser Arafat appeared on the scene to spread a culture of terrorism, which, believe it or not, is shared by a minority of Arabs.

Palestinian Authority leaders have been trying to manufacture lies to invent a new ancient culture by copy-catting the People of Israel’s achievement of once again becoming a State after 2,000 years.The Binding of Isaac now is the Binding of Ishmael. Rachel’s Tomb now is a Muslim holy site for centuries before Islam was founded, a rather neat trick.And, of course, the First and Second Holy Temple never existed. And don’t forget that Jesus was a Palestinian.Let’s all forget that the term Palestinian people did not exist until after the re-establishment of the State of Israel.And let’s even forget that most Palestinians live in Jordan.The Arab world has gone through all the motions to establish the Palestinian Authority as a new Arab country. It has a constitution; it has institutions; it has a flag. All of these give it a body.It has no soul.
